 + -1 moreAlthough difficult to dig, the job went well I'm very pleased. Hopefully, the people that come back tomorrow to fill in will do as well as those that dug it up.
Description of Work: On July 16, in a previous report, I reported the sewer cleanout. They ran the camera inspection on July 19. There was one bad bulge in the pipe, right where I've used a flat snake to clear problems in the past. I decided on replacing 51' of line instead of just one spot, as the pipe was not up to current standards. Because the deck I have goes over the line (bad mistake) I had to remove a part of it so they could remove and replace the line instead of just the bulge portion. The excavators came on August 7, promptly on time and worked diligently until 6 pm to finish the job. Today, Chris Chamrad and a helper, Tom, cut out and replaced the line. Chris really checked the alignment and leveling to ensure perfect alignment. They filled in below the pipe if there was a spot where the pipe moved downward. They had me run water to check for leaks, and when satisfied it was ok, finished the job. Tomorrow, excavators will fill in the big ditch.

 + -1 moreShafer was able to come within a couple hours of my call on a Monday morning. The plumber was able to remove the screw that caused the problem without having to replace any parts, so he only charged us the basic service call fee.
Description of Work: Shafer removed a tiny screw that apparently had come through our pipes and had lodged itself in the flushing mechanism of one of our toilets causing it to run continuously.

 + -1 moreHad a slow leak for awhile that suddenly became worse. Checked Angie's list late one evening and found the top two companies. We had a prior poor experience with the other company, so I decided to try Shafer. I went to their website and requested an appointment. (This was the only negative to this company--apparently they do not promptly check web requests.) When I didn't hear from them by 10AM the next day, I called. They gave me an appointment for between 3PM and 5PM that day. The plumber arrived by 3:15PM and was done by 4:30PM. In the process of fixing the main problem, he found a moderate clog in an outside faucet, so he replaced the faucet at no added charge. Overall--with the exception of their failure/delay in checking web appointments--a very good experience.
Description of Work: Repaired a leaking water pipe in the wall of our garage.

 + -1 moreNobody showed up for the estimate appointment on 7/7/07, nor did they call to cancel the appointment. I think that shows very little professionalism on their part. In my opinion, if a company can't honor an appointment what is there to expect of their work.
Description of Work: Call in for an estimate on replacement of a 3 ton horizontal coil and Shafer company told me that somebody would come to my house on Saturday 7/7/07 between 10am and 11:00 AM. Shafer company confirmed the appointment on 7/6/07. ($2,000.00)

 + -1 moreThe technician was great. My A/C unit is on the roof. On his trip up with the new part, he took my can of bug spray and fixed the ant problem. He also told me about some problems he noticed on the roof of my condo so I could report them to the condo management company.
Description of Work: A/C wasn't cooling. The technician came out, climbed on the roof and quickly identified the problem--ants in the contractor. He was able to replace the part in short order and I had air again.

 + 0 moreFrank was on time. He conducted a thorough inspection of both bathrooms, the laundry area and the kitchen. He discovered a leak on the cold water line of my tub (I wasn't sure whether it was a leak or condensation and he tested it to confirm it was a leak in the seals) and most importantly, he quickly assessed the guest room toilet and determined why it wasn't flushing properly. As it turned out, one of the previous owners had cobbled together a toilet from two different brands of parts. I decided to just go ahead and get a new toilet and have Frank install it. He took out the old one, went to get a new toilet and had it installed in less than two hours. Amazing. He also double checked the water heater and assured me that all was well.
Description of Work: Their technician, Frank, came to the house and completed a full plumbing inspection, which is part of their annual service plan. He discovered and repaired several plumbing problems in my house.

 + -1 moreWARNING, GET A PRICE QUOTE BEFORE ALLOWING SHAFER SERVICES TO COME ONSITE. IF THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE!!! I asked for and did not receive a quote. Consequently, after taking time off work, I was over charged for 3 hose bibs $134.09. Additionally, I was over charged $165 to just install the kitchen sink faucet and AN ADDITIONAL $211.24 to replace 2 shut offs valves that were functioning and operational before Shafer Services arrived!!! I PAID $524.33 FOR 3, YES 3 HOSE BIBS AND 1 KITCHEN FAUCET INSTALL.
Description of Work: I need 3 outside hose bibs, a kitchen faucet (I had hardware), and bathroom fixtures installed. The bathroom hardware was not replaced because of additional work involved, good thing too, at the prices they charged!!!

He expertly found the trouble, decided on a plan of action and gave me an estimate. Price was high because of the degree of difficulty of the job (difficult access in a small space). Frank did a good, efficient, effective job within the time frame he estimated. Would not hesitate to use this company again.
Description of Work: Water leak behind wall in bathroom between tub and shower in 1/2 in. cold copper line. Worked through existing access hole in dining room to cut out leaky section and solder in new copper pipe and fitting. Then tested for leaks.

 + -1 moreFrank came in and put on blue booties over his muddy shoes so he wouldn't track up my floors (yes!). I showed him the powder room toilet and described the problem. He studied it a few minutes, told me what was happening (a float was leaking and taking on water, causing the periodic surge). He gave me two estimates; replaced the float ball, (cheap!) or replace the crummy, cheap original flush mechanism of the toilet (what he would do if it were his to fix). So I chose the expensive fix because I am tired of the crummy original mechanism (which should have been replaced by an earlier plumber years ago when this toilet leaked in 1996! Apparently that plumber didn't give me the option).
Description of Work: Replaced the insides of a running toilet; it was periodically 'surging', wasting water.

 + -1 moreThe gentleman was on time and very professional and polite. He even gave us some estimates on a couple of other jobs we needed to have done. He was here about 45 minutes, so I thought the price was rather expensive, as were the estimates for the other jobs. One was twice as much as the other two estimates we received for one of the things we needed, but the quality of their work may be much higher also.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the ceiling, they came the next day (Saturday) to check it. They determined the shower pan in the upstairs bathroom was cracked. They do not repair that, but did give us a couple of repairmen to call.
