They did an electronic diagnosis and made a number of recommendations, including replacement of a coil and a system diagnosis to see about improved cooling to the upper level of the house, which would have been very expensive. I ultimately decided not to go with them and they were willing to cancel my service contract, which I appreciated.

The woman who took my call was very helpful. We set up an appointment. The day of the appt, she called to say the plumber would be delayed about an hour. Then the plumber personally called to say he was delayed. He actually arrived within a half hour of the appointment time. He quickly diagnosed and fixed a leak under the kitchen sink which turned out to be the spray hose. He also replaced a toilet handle. He checked the water pressure and made some recommendations. I also asked about the length of time it takes to get hot water to the master bath and he again provided a recommendation that I will probably do later.

Water on the floor of bathroom. We couldn't find where it was coming from. Called plumber. It was not an emergency. We made an appointment for the next day. Two pollte plumbers arrived at the time appointed and located the tiny leak at the back of the toilet. They fixed it. Cleaned up. Good experience.

JERRY, A MASTER PLUMBER, AND HIS ASSISTANT, RAUL, WERE POLITE & VERY COURTEOUS . JERRY EXPLAINED ALL THE NEEDED REPAIRS IN DETAIL. WHAT REALLY IMPRESSED ME WAS THAT JERRY SHOWED COLORED PICTURES OF HOW THE PROBLEMS OCCURRED & INFORMED ME HOW TO PREVENT THEIR FURTHER OCCURRENCE ESPECIALLY THE DRAINS.

The man that came out was very knowledgeable, courteous and efficient.

I called at 0900 on 01-09-09 & was scheduled between 1100 & 1300 the same day. He swiftly discovered the problem. He showed me a portion of the flapper that had fallen off and had fell in a part that sealed off the water flow. This caused the commode unable to flush and thus, fill-up up with water.

They were a little late. I had an appointment for 10:00, but they did come until 10:30. They were trying to contact me, but I did get the message until 5 minutes to 10:00.

The person that I hired to replace the tile in the bathroom told me that I might have a leak since he found moisture under the tiles that he was removing. I called Shafer Services. Jerry did a diagnostics water leak check and didn't find a leak in that bathroom. I asked him to replace a faucet outside that was leaking and re-routed a copper tube outside the water heater. When the tile person removed the toilet to complete the tile installation, he noticed that the shutoff valve was leaking. This was not obvious until the toilet was removed. I called Shafer Services the next day and Jerry came and replaced it. I called again because the toilet in that bathroom kept running. Jerry came and checked that toilet and the toilet in the other bathroom. When the tile person replaced that toilet, he had not placed shims to level it on the ceramic tile. Jerry took care of it. SHAFER SERVICES WAS GREAT! Jerry returned each time and performed the services in a professional and quick manner. He explained everything that he was doing.

Bob was great - checking beyond what I had requested and ended up replacing the areators on the faucets for much improved water flow. Replaced the theromcouple on the water heater and checked for corrosion. Checked my soft water unit and discovered it was out of salt and offered to bring the needed salt the next day when he came to install the pump. Arrived right on time, got the work done, showed me how easy and quickly it worked and he was done. Bob was neat and efficient, professional and friendly. I will most happily recommend this company and will use them anytime in the future that I need a plumber.

The Shafer office called at 1:30, stating Chris, the plumber, was running late and would not arrive until 2:30. He did not arrive until after 3:30 pm. He checked the plumbing connections under the new sinks, which my husband had completed already, and tightened one pipe. He then said that the shower and tub fixture installs would require cutting into the tile so would be very costly (over $500 each). Installing a toilet would be $170. He then looked under the kitchen sink, making comments about how the current plumbing was not up to code, that this would be very expensive to fix, that this would take a long time to repair, etc. He quoted a price of $1500 for all the work. When I asked about the $25 coupon for Angie's List members or the 10% discount for booking online, he denied knowing anything about these, stating these prices were the standard prices for everyone. While he started working in the kitchen, I pulled up both websites so he could see the discount info. He then told me that the kitchen job was going to be even more costly, since he was going to have to drill through the wall to fix the pipes. The total cost by then was $1800. I was in contact with my husband by phone throughout this process, and he now walked in the door. I was on the phone with Theresa at Shafer Services, asking why I was not able to get a discount and why the plumber was not staying to make the needed repairs to my kitchen sink. He had said he didn't have the parts on the truck and by the time he went to the warehouse to get them and returned to my house, it would be 5pm on Friday of Easter weekend and he was not staying. When I told him that if he had arrived on time, this job would have been completed earlier in the day. His comment to this was: "That is a scheduling problem". When I told Theresa about this, she tried to explain the reasons this could have happened, but none were good enough for us to allow another employee into our home on the Saturday of Easter weekend. We told Chris to leave and that we would not pay the $75 service call fee, and I told Theresa we no longer needed their services. Theresa called back in a few minutes, waiving the fee as well. I was really disappointed and angry that this happened, since so many Angie's list patrons had such good experiences and mine was so horrible. I ended up getting another plumber from Angie's list to come out on Saturday and he charged less than half of what Shafer would have charged for the kitchen sink work, and he was pleasant about everything.

They were clean, professional, punctual, and I would recommend them to others. The bathroom looked spotless when they left. I wouldn't call anyone else!

Technician arrived on time, was very professional, answered questions completely and fully, kept a clean work area, finished the job promptly.

Technician was an hour late to the job and he finished in less than 30 minutes. The cost of the job, $258.00, is outrageous. That equates to almost $500.00 an hour. We have had this same work done in other houses and the cost was between $125.00 to $150.00. The technician gave me $25.00 discount coupon which dropped the price to $233.00 but that is still over $100.00 too much.

Had made several attempts to fix leak in tub, including using another plumbing company. Chris from Shafer listened very carefully to what we had tried up to this point, and made the recommendation to replace the faucet. He suggested that I go by the new faucet to save money and to select one that I liked. He came back two days later and completely fixed the problem.

I called to make an appointment and was told someone could come the next afternoon. The next morning I received a call stating they could come earlier, if it was convenient for me. The plumber arrived on time, was neatly dressed, very courteous and friendly. He looked at my faucet, then explained that he could either fix it or replace it. I opted for fixing it and he did not try to get me to go for the more expensive replacement. He even asked if I had any other outdoor faucets and looked at that one. It too was leaking and he fixed that one as well. From now on, this will be the only plumbing company I use.

The technician gave us two alternatives to fix it, and gave us pros and cons for both, then let us make the decision which way we wanted to proceed.

They came and estimated the work to be done, but the price was prohibitive, and I elected to use a different company to replace the hot water heater. Approx. cost: $24.00.

I'd just returned from a business trip in the late afternoon when I noticed the leak and called. There were no technicians available to come out the same day, however, they were able to work with my schedule for the following day. I got a call the next day notifying me that the repairmen would be available sooner if I'd like to change the time. We did change the time and they showed up at 2pm on the dot as scheduled, had the work completed in about 90 minutes. They seemed very knowledgeable about the type of pipe (galvanized) that was originally used and were able to repair the section of pipe. They suggested future repairs to be done at a later date (they didn't try to sell me something I didn't need, basically). Since we plan on doing major remodeling over the Summer including adding a laundry room, Frank suggested that I wait and have the same contractor do the additional plumbing repairs as it would be a cheaper option. He also gave me information on the type of pipe to request. The price was pretty steep, but from previous plumbing repairs I've paid for, plumbing is just expensive. This was an emergency situation, we had to shut off the main until the repairmen could come fix the problem or we'd have had a flood under the house. Overall, I'm very happy with the work they've done, their friendly manner, punctuality and plan on getting an estimate from them for A/C installation.

I phoned after hours, just after discovering a muddy flood in my front yard surrounding the water main. The on-call supervisor spent a full hour on the phone explaining that the previous plumbing company had done me a disservice by installing a pressure release valve at the main without also ensuring that I had overflow tanks for my hot water heaters. He very patiently explained WHAT the tanks are and WHY I needed them. He explained the functioning of a pressure release valve(because I failed to understand WHY it would not allow overflow water to go FROM my house TO the city sewer-although I still don't get why the darn thing can't be designed as a bi-directional valve, perhaps this awaits a future inventor). The supervisor scheduled the repair folks to come late in the afternoon so that I wouldn't miss work(which I could not do)assured me that there was no additional charge for this, and also indicated that the quoted price included a military veteran's discount. Two plumbers arrived on time and completed the work in a timely manner. They did not leave any sort of mess. They did, however, forget to turn the hot water back on-at BOTH hot water heaters. It took a not-very-warm and then a decidedly cold shower for me to realize something was the matter. Being naive in plumbing matters, I called the company and complained. They sent a plumber out later the same day who checked each hot water heater and turned the heat back on. I waited several weeks to post this evaluation, to ensure that this was the only mistake, rather than the first-discovered of many. I would also like to mention that the office staff answering the telephones seem to be exceptionally nice and well-informed.

We are members of Shafer Services RSVP Service. We pay one fee each spring that includes both a spring air conditioning service visit and a fall heating system service visit. I called Shafer Services on a Monday and was able to make an appointment for the next day, Tuesday. The technician arrived early for his appointment time, but only after calling first to make sure it was okay. He spent about an hour inspecting and testing our heating systems. Both checked out fine and needed no repairs. After the technician left, I went upstairs to check the ladder to the attic above the 2nd floor. The technician had put the ladder in its stored position, and he had moved the couch back to where it went against the wall. The technicians at Shafer Services are very professional and only performed repairs that are absolutely necessary to get your system running and keep it running. We have used them for almost three years and are very satisfied.

Excellent. They diagnosed the source of the problem within 30 seconds. They told me they didn't have to run the camera because it is expensive, but they recommended it and it was the right call because they found an obstruction that would not have been found with just the snake. They were totally competent. They didn't waste time and they explained the process to me.

The receptionist was helpful and courteous. She scheduled a service appointment for the day I called, telephoned to confirm the appointment and to let me know the plumber could come earlier if desired. Mr. Chamrad arrived at an ideal time. He explained the work that needed to be done and the cost, which was quite reasonable. He repaired the water line and attached it to our new refrigerator in short order. I am a repeat customer with Shafer, having purchased a furnace and air conditioning systems from them in the past. They are always very professional and reliable.

On both visits, the service personnel showed up on time and appropriately dressed. They completely checked the heating/AC unit inside the house and the compressor outside. They were very friendly and gladly answered any questions I had. The reports they leave you contain all the measurements they made; very comprehensive. Lets you know exactly how your system is operating.

They are excellent. The people were very knowledgeable and prompt. They showed up when they say they would. The also offered a free estimate. I believe they have been in business for over a hundred years.
