They worked with my extremely tight schedule for having the work completed and did so in a professional, timely manner. I will definitely refer to them for any future plumbing needs!
Description of Work: Cut off valve to dishwasher moved from under dishwasher to under the sink. Installed a new valve and with a copper line. Moved old dishwasher outside.

+ -1 moreShafer installed a new water heater in the attic of our townhome--a difficult installation that involved removing the toilet and doing carpentry. Their representative, Chris, came out the day before and spent the morning evaluating the problems created by our extremely hard water and lack of an easy installation of a water heater. That morning Chris also installed a new pressure regulator. The two-man team the next day arrived on time and installed the new water heater and a new toilet plus additional equipment without complications and very professionally. We have used Shafer before to replace plumbing fixtures. The plumber in that installation researched and located fixtures online to match the existing fixtures.

+ -1 moreOur system was running very poorly so we had them out. They said that we had a major electrical malfunction and that the starter and several other components must be replaced in addition to thorough maintenance. The cost for all of this was more than $1000. They also sold us an ongoing maintenance contract for $23/month. A month later and our system is making horrible noise and not working properly. We call them and they come out and say that, gosh, looks like the coil is bad and the whole system needs to be replaced. Their bid for this was $7,600 but they also recommended major duct work (didn't get a bid but said approx $8K more.) We decided to get a second opinion and found out that Shafer Services had severely overfilled our system with refrigerant and that the whole system was flooding. The new service group drained off 4lb of refrigerant and amazingly our system began to run fine. In fact, he said that if we hadn't had the excess refrigerant drained off, it would have very quickly destroyed our entire system. The new service tech also said that it was impossible to say whether the coil was bad without doing diagnostic tests to see if there's blockage (our coil is installed in a position with poor visibility) and that he would recommend that before committing to a new system. So, I am left wondering if Shafer Services group is either incompetent or actively trying to screw their customers. Thank goodness we got a second opinion.
Description of Work: Cleaned entire system, recharged refrigerant, replaced starter parts and many other electrical components.

+ 0 moreFound company on Angie's list; used the link to go to Shaffer's company website, where I was able to request an a service call and leave details of what the symptoms were ( I received a 10% discount for using the online request system). This was about 8:00 pm yesterday; someone from Shaffer's called me about 7:30 this morning and the service tech arrived by 9:00 and completed his work by 10:00. He informed me of the problem; repair and cost before he started working. He also, told me about their service plan which I signed up for and recieved the $49.00 dispatch discount (applied to today's service charges). Very professional, prompt and fairly priced. I would highly, recommend this company.

+ 0 moreService crew for each discipline were on time, professional, explained what they were doing and made recommendations that seemed reasonable and cost effective. They did not try to gauge me at a vulnerable time. Prior to scheduling the appointment, I spoke with two company managers about the situation. They were knowledgeable about LD unlike some companies I called. The $190.80 cost is an annual service partner plan fee. It is $15.90/month which is slightly more than the service cost for today would have been. The annual service partner plan benefits made sense for our home.
Description of Work: A/C - Requested check unit and coils to verify unit is working properly and also determine any issues such as standing water, coil issues, etc. that might contribute to a recent diagnosis of Legionnaire's Disesase. My Mom had been in two hospitals and a rehab facility during the last 3 months and prior to this latest LD pneumonia diagnosis. I wanted to be sure my home is safe when she is discharged. Hot water heater was checked for the same reason and determined to run sufficiently hot. Decided not to drain heater or turn it to the maximum heating level permanently since this could present dangerous conditions going forward for everyone.

Description of Work: Chris came out to install my under the counter sink. We went from a divided sink to one large sink. He took out the old sink, then rerouted the pipes under the sink to accomodate the disposal drain only. He was very professional and answered all of my questions as well as accomodated the schedule of the countertop installers to reinstall the new sink. Very impressed! I would use again!

+ 0 moreI should have put the story I told above in this box. As you can surmise from reading it, the overall experience was not at all good. It was puzzling, frustrating, and was a waste of time.
Description of Work: I called this company to come and clean out our a/c condensate lines. I had also asked to have our large compressor checked because it made a loud clunking sound when it shut off. The technician arrived on time all neat and clean and wanted to see the compressor and hear it shut off. Immediately after hearing it, he said we needed a new system and started explaining how much more efficient the new systems were. I finally got him off that topic and led him inside to where the ladder to the attic was. he said he wanted me to go up with him, which I wasn't about to do because of leg problems. He needed light to inspect the offending a/c unit, so I had to offer him a flashlight. After a few minutes, he came down from the attic and sat down with me in the kitchen, but did not talk about the work that needed to be done, so I had to ask him if he could clean out the condensate lines and how much would it cost. He said he had to go out to the truck to check the price. He was gone a good 10 minutes. When he returned, he had no tools with him. He sat down and I had to ask him if he had come up with a cost. I believe he said it would cost $250 or $280 (I'm not sure of the amount)---a ridiculously high price! (A subsequent company offered a preventative maintenance package which included cleaning out the condensate lines for a total of $155.00). By now, it appeared to me that this neat and clean technician who carried no tools with him, or even a flashlight, was probably a salesman in disguise, who had no intention of doing any work on our a/c system if he could avoid it. By now, I had had enough of him, so I paid him the service visit fee of $79 - $25 (Angie's list coupon) and told him we would not need his services. What a wasted hour of my time! You can be sure I will never call this company again. To the credit of the technician, he was polite and respectful at all times.

+ -1 moreGot up on Friday and had no hot water. Could not get the pilot light to stay on so I called Shafer Services. They had replaced our sewer line and a toilet in the past, and we were impressed with their service, especially Bob. Bob came out by noon and diagnosed a bad thermocouple and gave us an estimate of $204 to repair it , but recommended a new water heater ($1049) since ours was 8 years old. I agreed. He ordered the water heater, and his helper had it promptly delivered. The heater was completely installed and everything was cleaned up by 4:00 pm. As in the past, I was very happy with the work. Bob is professional, thorough, neat, and accomodating. Besides replacing the water heater, he had to replace the vent pipe. He showed me how it was leaking carbon monoxide into the attic. It I had done the work myself, I probably would not have caught that problem. I was thrilled that they were able to come right out to the house when we called and were able to do the installation the same day. I was not looking forward to a weekend of cold showers. The price seemed a bit high, but I did not get any other bids. I do not mind paying for something done right.

Description of Work: Technician repalced the defrost boad and repaired a broken wire (26VAC) in the upstairs furnace. This wire had not been connected since we bought the house new 12 years ago, so the defrost cycle never worked until now.

+ -1 moreI made an appointment easily on the internet and they came at the scheduled time. Chris was very professional and neat. I agreed upon a cost for the service before the work was started. Our gas lamp had gone out and very little gas seemed to be coming through the line. Chris took the lamp apart, opened up the gas line and blew it out. There was a lot of debris in the line (it hadn't been serviced in the 30 years we have lived here). The entire operation went smoothly and the light is shining more brightly than it has in years.
