It was all good as Chris C., the installer technician, was outstanding. I have used him in the past for some problems as well. I used Shafer(Chris C.) in April 2013 to perform a complete plumbing inspection on my home which included replacing my water heater. The most recent service calls for the disposal and kitchen faucet replacement/installation occurred on 09/1813 and 09/19/13 respectively. This company is extremely though and very informative as well as professional. I will continue to use them in the future for all my plumbing concerns.

Passed the test and they were very professional. I will use them again in the future.

Fantastic service provider. Period. Our AC went out in June 2013. I called 12 AC repair companies in San Antonio, and Shafer was one of only 2 that actually returned my call that day (most didn't even return the call). Shafer sent Booth Petry to my house within 4 hours of the call. Booth explained all of our options for either repairing or replacing our 15 year old AC unit including rebates from CPS for picking a more efficient unit. He even encouraged us to call a family friend to see what he'd charge us to fix it, and didn't pressure us to do anything we didn't want to do. We ultimately chose to replace the AC. Shafer was able to give us a couple of window units to help us make it through the night and came out the next day and replaced the whole unit. They were punctual, professional, stayed true to their time estimates, understood that living with no AC in Central Texas isn't an option and helped us remedy the situation with a sense of urgency. I am impressed that they have the capacity within their organization to handle emergency calls like that considering the amount of demand in San Antonio, and that alone gets them a LOT of consideration. However, the overall service package, Booth's & Co's professionalism, and Shafer's reputation will make us repeat customers. My only caution is to remember that "you get what you pay for". We could have done the job cheaper, and they were willing to do so, but we wanted as much as we could get on the CPS rebates and a VERY efficient unit. So, we purchased the 17 SEER unit, and a service package to go with it. Worth it, in my opinion, but that may not be for everyone.

I found this company from this website and called them. The lady who answered the phone was courteous and scheduled me for same day service. However, when I specifically asked how much it would cost, she said that there would be a $49.99 fee for him to come out. No other fees were mentioned at all during this conversation. When the plumber showed up, my husband was informed that the $49.99 was just a travel fee and that there would be an additional $99 "discovery" fee to figure out the problem. When I spoke with the plumber over the phone and told him I was very displeased because this fee was not mentioned at all, he said that the discovery fee was because extensive work had to be done to discover the source of the leak. I then asked if the $99 would go toward the repair bill and was informed that it would not and that the bill would be above and beyond that price. Furthermore, the "discovery" process included pulling out the dishwasher to discover that the dish washer was leaking and not any plumbing. There was no sheetrock removed, no plumbing snaked or any other work done by this plumber. I expect to pay a fee to have a plumber diagnose a problem, my issue lies with the fact that I specifically asked before i scheduled the appointment on the phone how much it would cost and was told "$49 for the plumber to come out to your house." I was not told that there would be any additional fees. I was made to think that the $49 fee was the fee for the plumber to discover the problem. I feel that I was intentionally mislead by this company. I will NEVER use them again.

The gentleman who came was very courteous. He got here quickly.

They were prompt. One staff inspected the inside while the second staff checked the outside. Was patient with me as I asked various questions. And explained everything as we went. I didn't feel pressured into any additional service. The whole inspection took less than 30 minutes. The only mark down was for the professionalism. The person inspecting outside was smoking, I didn't feel this was professional.

I got them from Angie’s List. I pay $15 a month for service. They come out a couple of times a year to check my AC, heating and plumbing. I am really happy with their professionalism and they communicate really well with what’s going on. They definitely seem to know what they are doing and I don’t feel like I am being scammed. They are pretty upfront.

I felt that most of what was done is what I would do - flush the toilet, feel water pressure from taps, etc. I didn't see anything extra done such as the toilet tank dye that would reveal any leaks. I also didn't see any inspection of outdoor pipes - either for gas or plumbing. The guys were professional in attitude and appearance, but when a problem was found (hoses needed to be replaced on washer), the price they quoted was about 5x what another plumber charged. I felt that the Big Deal was an opportunity to find other more expensive projects for the company.

It was good. They said I probably needed a new toilet because it was slowly leaking water. I think it was just a basic service. They came out and they were real quick to inspect and then go. I don't think they did everything that it said on that checklist. Because if I remembered correctly that checklist said that they would insert dye and check for leaks and I don't think they did any of that on any of the fixtures. Their responsiveness was good.

The air conditioner stopped blowing cool air. We called Shafer around 9 pm. The answering service asked if this was an emergency? We do have another unit in the living area so I didn't think it would be too bad. It was a comfort though to know they did consider that 100% weather, without air conditioning , could be an emergency! Shafer called the next morning to say they would be out between 1:00 and 3:00. Right on time at 1:00 the office called to say "Jim" was on the way. He arrived and within 20 min. we had cool air in the bedrooms again. Couldn't ask for more. The technician (Jim I believe was his name) was polite and professional and all in all we were very happy with this company.

The representative quoted 1500 to replace my hot water heater and I asked him if I really needed it since I have another hot water heater that services most of my house. I wanted to know if it would be more economical to simply cap off and not use the bad heater. He became argumentative and told me that it would be a violation of the building code, and that it would affect my ability to every sell my house. I called a realtor friend and asked if this was true and they scoffed at his comments, plus they said I could always replace it at a later time if necessary. The friend recommended another plumber to replace my heater and they did it for $500. The new plumber told me the heater was still under warranty and that there would be no problem removing the old heater and taking it across the attic. Shafer told me it would cost $1000 in labor to remove the heater, and they failed to tell me the heater still had warranty.

Firstly, I want to say that Jamie (the Tech) was very nice and did a great job. Howerver.... The tech came out and I informed him that I believed the capacitor in the AC unit was bad. He opened the unit and verified this was indeed the case. He came back from his truck with the part and said "I'll install this then get you a cost for the service." In retrospect, I should have asked hime to provide the cost first because they charged me $240 for a $65 part. I know that there is a cost of doing business, but charging $89 just to diagnose a problem the overcharging for parts is very disappointing. The only saving grace here was the $25 service charge coupon I got from Angies List.

I had this freelance A/C technician recommended to me by my highly skilled remodeling carpenter. This guy was supposedly a hot shot A/C wizard who could perform miracles on A/C units no matter their age of past abuse. Ended up being one of the biggest A/C mistakes of my life. At best, this guy half-assed everything he did. Unbeknown to me he shorted out some things on my outside unit, did some creative wiring to get the thing going after the electrical mishaps, then told me he had to come back the next day after he got some parts. I went ahead and paid him up front for his services and for the cost of the part he was suppose to get. He said he would get the part then come back to my house the next afternoon to install it. As he was leaving he assured me that the A/C system will work just fine the way he left it. After he didn't come back the next day I texted the guy, all I got back was "parts on backorder." It has been about three months since the guy was here, he never came back. Luckly the A/C has been working so-so. I called Shafer Services and Josh came out. He was a few minutes late but no problem. He was polite and professional. Right off the bat we found the first electrical disaster left by the previous technician. Josh reached up to turn off the outside unit master on/off switch and when he turned it off the unit didn't stop blowing. The previous tech for some reason hardwired around a bad switch, luckly a technician didn't get electrocuted as a result of this terribly dangerous work. I could go on and on but I want. Josh fixed everything the best he could. The outside unit is over 15 years old and still works. Josh never tried to pressure me in to buying anything or doing anything unnecessary. I really appreciated that part of the service call. His recommendations were pretty much what I expected, to either replace the outside unit or replace the whole thing. I'm going to have a guy from Shafers come by next week and give me an estimate for a new unit. I'll keep you posted.

Technician had to use bathroom. Seems like he could have taken care of his business at a public restroom before coming to my residence.

When he came, he said he recognized the sound. He fixed the compressor. Five minutes later, the AC shut down. He came back and fixed it again, and now it is making the same sound.

Tech showed up when the dispatcher said he would. He was cordial and professional at all times and he didn't try to sell me something I didn't need or want.

That must have been my husband ordered, I would assume it's fine cause he didn't say anything. He was pleased with that. It was pretty simple, I remembered he called them and guy came out pretty quickly and anything that was needed for that task, he gave that day.

Upon arrival they were dressed neat and clean. Professional right from the start! Respectful! While explaining what they would have to do, he gave me prices, and they were reasonable.

It turned out fine. They were great. The price was way too much. Later I have got a card in the mail from I guess the people who did it last year and it was only like $39 I think and Shafer's was like around $90. I would use them again.

I just my had my annual plumbing check with John Beron. John completed his whole house plumbing inspection, inside and out, in a timely manner providing progress reports periodically throughout the inspection. There were no hard sells or pressure associated with this home visit and the assessment I received upon completion was thorough, honest and comprehensive. John was always professional, courteous, respectful of my property and polite. Keeping with the Team spirit that Shafer employees seem to embrace, John fit the mold perfectly. John is truly a great Ambassador of Shafer Services. I will request him by name next time.

It didn't go very well. It seems they spent more time coming up with a wish/price list of what they could do. I'm paying for a service plan so they can visit me a couple times a year and try to get me to spent a lot more money. The list they came up with included almost $700 ($350 per unit) to add freon. Each of the systems were not low by the same amount, but they would cost the same. The top of the list they gave me was to spend over $11,000 to upgrade the systems to use 410A. I told them I could get a better (realistic) price and sent them on their way. I called Tex-Perts and they came out and added freon for about $300 (for both systems). My advise? Make sure you know what you are getting when you enter a service plan. I cancelled mine. Shop around.

It was easy to make an appointment, the service went very well, and they were friendly and prompt.

The tech was on time and very friendly and professional. He found a broken pressure regulator and quoted me the charges to have it fixed/replaced. My house is still under warranty so I referred this to my warranty company instead who of course uses a different plumber than Shafter Services which is really too bad. I felt like they would have done better quality work. The tech also indicated i needed an overflow tank installed for my hot water heater; something that I was completely unaware of. He gave me prices for that too.

They did a good job and I need to use them again because I have a sprinkler system and they want you to do that every year. They did good on everything and the price is reasonable.
