Mark is almost always early, friendly and professional. It took a bit to locate a burned up heat relay that was the source of the problem. Once found, he replaced and retested the system multiple times to make sure it met his standards. I always feel very confident when Mark is checking on the heat system. He takes his time and doesn't rush his through his job - you know that when he's done- it's fixed! He is a typical Shafer employee - professional in every sense of the word, competent, neat and friendly. I always appreciate that Shafer respects my hardwood floors by slipping booties over their shoes. They go above and beyond their job.

I have used this company for a couple of years and found everyone I dealt with to be very professional and knowledgeable. They actually gave me a whole additional year on my old a/c but the time finally came. Mark Patino worked with me to decide what I needed. My condo is 30 years old and so a new complication popped up around every corner. I also have an upstairs neighbor that I had to not create problems for. Mark was so kind in trying to explain these complications to me and to my neighbor. Steve popped in a couple of times to figure out things. Hector Galindo and Charlie Rivera were my installers and we spent 13 hours together and then Hector came back this morning to be sure all was well! It was a very good experience and I would hesitate to recommend this company to anyone.

The plumber was punctual and got right to work. There were some problems with the plumbing lines that were in place. He informed us of the issue then addressed the issue without changing the costs. He worked diligently and even cleaned up the area when he was done. We will definitely be using Shafer for our future plumbing needs.

raIt was very good experience ... water heater had sprung a leak, and flooded garage - Chris was out here as soon as I could get home to let him in garage. He was dressed very professionally, clean, neat. Very nice man! Called for water tank. Got it installed. Then, Franc Rocha went above and beyond and helped me move a few items from the corner of the garage which was flooded. Then, he helped me sweep out most of the water. I call that Customer Service with a 5-star rating! I had called Emergency Service Restoration, but they came out immediately also, but they wanted way too much money just to suck up the water and put 3 fans in garage...I have fans of my own! But, kudos to Chris Chamrad and Franc Rocha! Two very good men on your team. I will be calling Shafer for future needs!

Jim L. is an amazing technician. The service visit went well, as expected. He is focused on customer service and satisfaction, as is the entire Shafer Services Team. It was not my inability to connect the wifi thermostat; it was that the thermostat was defective. Robert, my technician, arrived as soon as his previous job was completed, even though it was already after workday hours. He discovered that the original fittings from years ago had been improperly installed which caused the split. He replaced the fittings with the correct pieces and also turned around the piping, so that there could be no future leaking onto the electrical socket. He always works with cheerfulness and an efficient and easy going manner. He took time to explain exactly what had happened, what he needed to do to repair it, and told me what it would cost. He displays professionalism at it's best and I am always confident that the work will be done correctly.
Description of Work: Another service provider working in my garage noticed that the fitting for the water softener has split and was dripping water - less than 2" above a live electrical socket. Because I have a maintenance contract with Shafer, I called them immediately and was put on the list for prompt attention.

AC started blowing warm air. Called Shafer and San Antonio air to get me a couple quotes to repair. Shafer tech gave a diagnostics of all refrigerant has leaked out. Leaked at condenser. Leak unrepairable due to rust. Also evaporative unit needs some work. Will need entire outside unit replaced and repairs to upstairs unit. Would send a sales rep to offer different pricing points to replace all. San Antonio Air comes out. Everything checks out just fine. No rust, no leaks, and refrigerant is full. Did find the circuit breaker to the condenser had flipped off. He reset that and had cold air right then. Charged $49 and recommended I get an electrician to replace circuit switch. Shafers tech was either stupid or liar. Either way when sales guy came out I explained how second company fixed my air in 15 min for $49. Asked if he would refund their $69 service call since I really didn't feel it met industry standards of a service call. Was very apologetic. Said they'd take care of the charge and high tailed it quickly off the premises. I could've been out $5-10K if San Antonio air wasn't my second call.

Called around 8:10 am due to our A/C not working, they responded a technician could be here between 10:00-12:00. They called around 9:50 saying Mark there technician was on his way. Mark arrived around 10:15 and started troubleshooting the A/C. He kept me informed throughout the whole process, once he completed repairs he did a thorough inspection of both systems finding a few issues he would recommend taking care of. He put them in order of precedence of what should be taken care of immediately and what could wait. Very thorough knowledgeable with superior customer service.

Robert quickly discerned that a lightning strike the week before, when I had been out of town (which had also damaged some other things) had fried the control panel and it had run amuck! He found the wall plug with the burn marks, so no question about that diagnosis . Robert L was the very professional and knowledgeable technician whom I had the pleasure to work with. He checked to see if the old softener had a warranty- it didn't. He then sat down with me and explained what had happened to the unit, what I needed to replace it and what would be my best alternative (both price and service wise) to replace it. He spent at least an hour getting things explained and set for his return first thing this morning to make the repair. Michelle called ahead to let me know he was on his way. He very quickly set to work detaching and removing the old unit and regen tub and replaced them with brand new ones. This was a humid morning, so his work was not easy, but in a couple of hours he had the job completed and cleaned up with the help of his apprentice, Daryl. Robert is very personable and polite and so good about answering questions and giving me all the information I could need about using the system to its best capacity and abilities. I have always been pleased with Shafer Services when I have used them for plumbing needs and will not hesitate to use them in the future. I decided to purchase their service maintenance agreement because it is very comprehensive, offers some free inspections that no one else offers, is very reasonable and provides a discount on any call. I cannot thank Robert, Michelle and Daryl enough for their cheerful, professional, prompt service that started with an emergency call on a Sunday afternoon!
Description of Work: On mid Sunday afternoon, I heard my water softener pouring water into the drain - wasn't sure what was going on so waited a while, things hadn't changed, so called Shafer. They quickly got a contact, Michelle, with me and she quickly and efficiently arranged for a technician to come out - he was there in less than 15 minutes and promptly got my water shut off - telling me where I can do it in the future, should that be needed.

My main issue with Shafer Services is that they are very expensive. I had them replace a bathroom faucet, which I provided. The cost to do so was over $300.00. It was done while they were at my place for an annual plumbing check, no special trip.

I use Shafer Services for my annual A/C checks. When Rodney came out on a 78 degree day and said that I had a 5 degree difference between my return air at the return grate and at the whole-system air filter at the air handler, I knew there was a big problem. Add to that the dirt marks at our A/C vents and damage to our duct system from previous service calls over the years, and there had to be big leaks in the system. I asked Rodney to schedule me for a duct air flow test to see how bad it was and to see if I would qualify for the CPS duct air flow rebate program. Booth came out to conduct the test. The testing indicated 63% leakage between the returns and the vents. I didn't want to waste any more money fixing my system each year, I didn't want my family breathing attic air any longer, and I didn't want to continue to waste money on our electric bill. Booth gave us an estimate for replacing the ducts, but said that he would not recommend doing that without replacing the air handler/furnace (they are one and the same for this system). Our old furnace was installed with the service panel on the wrong side, so our service folks were having to climb over the unit or the ducts to service the system, causing damage with each service. Having a 10 year old system, we decided it was time to stop throwing away money, bite the bullet, and buy a new system. Booth reviewed the system options with us, and told us about a new variable speed air conditioner they were offering from Daikin. We were already spending a chunk of money on the system, so we decided to go with their high end option. The initial price Booth gave us was pretty high, but he said Shafer was trying to get some training on installing this new system, so he could probably get his company to lower the price. He also mentioned a manufacturer rebate and CPS rebate for the system, in addition to the duct air flow rebate. We talked about duct design and cutting new returns and vents, and told him we'd get back with him about our decision. I called Booth back in a couple of days. He offered us the high end Daikin system for the two speed A/C price, $3000 less than he originally quoted us. I procured financing, and Booth told me that there would be a cash discount for us as well. Hector and Charlie, along with a couple of other folks, came out on the first day to start the install. The job took three days. Shafer brought in a portable A/C unit to help with keeping the house somewhat cool, but we mainly stayed on the other side of the house, which has its own A/C. The guys were very clean with their install. They used shoe covers inside the living areas, ran mats from the front door to the attic ladder for the duct removal, caught all of the dust and sheetrock in boxes when cutting the new vents and returns, and swept the floors daily. Hector and Charlie were very professional and took care of any concerns I brought up. They also handled the install well, dealing with all of the issues that a 40+ year old house has. One problem arose when one of the newer guys on the Shafer team knocked down a sheet of ceiling sheetrock in the garage. The installers assured me that they would take care of the damage. They cleaned up the fallen insulation and sheetrock, and called a subcontractor to repair the damage. The repair of the sheetrock was done well and will hold up a lot better in the future than the previous sheetrock. I understand that these things happen from time to time, but I had pretty high standards for the sheetrock repair, and they were met. Steve came out for the final walkthrough, and I mentioned to him that the flue was a bit crooked on the house. The old flue was crooked as well, so Steve said he thought it might be a problem with the roof flue vent and that he didn't want to mess with it too much and damage the roof. When he went up to adjust it, though, he had no problems fixing it. Steve called out the City of Windcrest to inspect later that week and the inspection went well (though make sure to ask that the inspector not pull out the fuses for a computerized air conditioning system). Our final duct test showed that our leakage in the system was cut to 5% - which qualifies us for the CPS Energy duct rebate. The new system runs very well. It is a much quieter system than we had previously, both inside the house and outside. It's computerized, though, and a normal A/C tech would need some additional training to service it. Shafer has asked us to provide feedback on the system so that they can provide it to Daikin, since this is a brand new line of air conditioners from Daikin (which bought Goodman out of Houston). At this point, I'd recommend both Shafer and Daikin to anyone looking for a professional install of a quality product.
Description of Work: Performed duct air flow test and reported results ($200). Removed and replaced all ductwork for one complete A/C system, including capping existing plenum returns and cutting new returns ($9,700). Removed and replaced furnace, outdoor condenser unit, and whole home air cleaner for one complete A/C system with Daikin variable speed air conditioner (20 SEER) and furnace/air handler ($10,108). Received discount for procuring my own financing and paying via check (-$594).

I called them because they are only two miles away from my vacation home in San Antonio. I chose them on proximity. Their internet ad says they've been providing services for over a century, but another ad says 1988. This is a contradiction. They offered to come out the same day around 12. I was not currently in San Antonio, but I had someone that could be there at 5p.m. That was fine. At 4 pm they called me to ask if they could switch it to 4 pm. We worked this out and I was able to let them in. They called me an hour saying that it was already done. They said it was 49 dollars plus 194 dollars. This was way too high for what they did. They service charge of 49 dollars made sense, but I do not understand and could not get an explanation as to what the $194 charge was for. He said it was the minimal amount charge. I have since written a letter with my concerns, and never heard back. I don't know if they sent the bill to the wrong address, but I have yet to recieve any information from the service provider.
Description of Work: The tub was stopped up, and I believe all it needed to be done was just declogging the drain.

We provide our customers options and pricing up front before any work is done. From our records our plumber did call to get your approval for this work and gave you a price before beginning the work. The additional charge on your bill was for the actual work done, in this case running a cable through a tub and removing debris/blockage, then ensuring it was draining properly. This service took our plumber and his assistant a little over an hour to complete. We are sorry that for all of this you did not see the value in the service we provided. We wish you luck in finding a plumber that meets your pricing expectations in the future.
