GREAT SERVICE!!! I called after hours so I left a message with the answering service and received a call back within minutes from Jason the Tech. I liked the fact that he actual asked me a few questions to see if it was something super simple that I was missing and could resolve myself which I could not. He showed up at the time he stated, super friendly, and found the issues within minutes and corrected it. My system was wired specifically for the original thermostat, so no matter what i did the new one wouldn't work. He was there for such a short period of time that he did not charge me more then the original after hours fee and base service call fee. He could have, even though he was there for a very short period of time and I would have understood.... But he didn't. For sure they will be the first service provider I call going forward.

I had a sprinkler leak. The leak was next to the backflow valve for the system. I wanted to get it done quickly as it was leaking a good amount of water. I called several plumbers from Angie's list. This company was able to come right away. I should have known better when they said they could be there in a short time but I told them to come. They came quickly. They told me that they would have "to dig all of this up to replace valve." He motioned with his hand to include the section valve and the backflow valve. Water was in the section valve box and the backflow valve box. It would be a "big job". He quoted $800.00. My mistake for not paying for the service call and sending him away. They dug a 5" X 5" hole, removed the section valve, went to the warehouse to buy a replacement, came back and installed same and then checked the system. In 1 hour and 55 minutes, they were paid and driving away from my home. They did not touch the backflow valve or have a large amount of digging to do. They saw an elderly woman on a cane from recent knee replacement and took advantage. I called 4 other Angie's list providers and asked for an estimate to repair exactly what they had repaired. I was given prices from $90.00 to$205.00. I also now know by reading questions and answers on Angie's that providers can buy a higher ranking. I will never again call a company that is high on the list.

The hottest day of the year so far and the main ac went out! Called Shafer Services and requested someone to come out in the morning since emergency service was not needed. Received phone call from Shafer in the morning to discuss problem; dispatcher called with 15 minutes of previous discussion; appointment made for between 1-3 p.m. Call shortly after 1 from Shafer that tech was on the way. Ray Gallo arrived at 1:35. Within minutes he had diagnosed the problem as a faulty capacitor and said he had the part. He replaced the capacitor and had the unit running within 30-40 minutes of his arrival. In addition to being professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly, Ray gave us a few tips on how to keep the unit running at peak performance. It was a pleasure to work with Ray Gallo. He embodies the excellence that Shafer Services claims. In addition, the other individuals with whom I spoke (sorry I didn't get their names) were courteous and professional as well. We will call Shafer Services again and request Ray be the technician sent.

Steve Duffy was at our house on June 24, 2015, to check on the job done by the installation technicians and to fine tune the system to see if he could get rid of the air flow discrepancies between the cool family room and the warm bedrooms. He said he could feel the difference walking from the family room into the bedrooms but that the temperature differential was within industry standards. He promised to consult with Booth Petry to see if Booth could figure out how to divert more cool air into the bedrooms. When the thermostat in the family room is set at 78 degrees, we are quite comfortable, but we have to decrease the temperature to 76 degrees at night in order to feel cool enough to sleep. I called Shafer Services at 11:09 AM Wednesday, July 29 and left a message to be relayed to Steve, who was in the field, however, he never returned my call. Needless to say, we are quite disappointed in the service we have received. And here we have paid almost $12,000.00 for a new system, which has worse air flow than our old system.

Technician arrived on time, very professional, went right to work. Same technician has serviced us before and described thoroughly what needed to be done and improvements recommended. As usual, excellent service.

We had excellent service from Shafer Services during a major plumbing project. This project included repiping our entire house with synthetic materials to replace copper pipes from the foundation up. During the entire project, the Shafer team kept us abreast of what each day would entail to include what they meant to get accomplished for that day. They did exactly what they said they would do, and were extremely professional and polite during the entire project. The job was finished on time and for the exact amount of the cost estimate. After completing the plumbing work, the entire area was cleaned up to our satisfaction. We would definitely recommend Shafer to anyone needing plumbing or airconditioning work.

I have used Shafer for plumbing previously so I called them to set up an appointment to look at a running toilet, a backed up toilet and a clogged sink. Shafer was able to schedule an appointment for the next day. Larry and Ismael arrived promptly and asked me to show them the items that needed attention. They quickly determined that one toilet needed a flapper. They also took a look at the other toilet that had been backed up the day before but had drained after several hours before they arrived. They checked an item outside to make sure that the issue was really the sewer in the neighborhood being backed up to a lot of rain. Additionally, they were able to remove the clog in the bathroom sink. While I hadn't specified it on the service call, I also was having some problems with the bathtub drain not opening. They were able to get it open then recommended that a new lift and turn drain stopper be installed because of some issues with the present one. Larry made sure that the new item matched the one previous. It works great now. I also got a $25 dispatch discount for being an Angies List member. Thanks Shafer!

It went very well. The technician lowered to cooling temperature in order to also lower the indoor relative humidity level. He advised up to keep the temperature at that setting for two days.

Installer failed to register APCO UV device. Left behind equipment copy of registration and did not take Installation card to mail to manufacturer. Installer also failed to apply APCO sticker and punch hole for sight glass. Since May 26, 2015 , there is absolutely no water in the indoor drip pain; it is all coming out the secondary drain over our rear porch. I placed a request of an online service request last night, May 26, 2015. This may have been a faulty installation. Anyway, labor carries a one year warranty, so I should not be charged anything for the service call.

This is the best plumbing company I have ever used!! I could not have been more impressed. I was able to get them the day I called. They appeared at my door at the time they said in khakis and blue shirts and with shoe covers. I was totally baffled by the source of water coming down inside my fireplace. They quickly determined there was a small leak in a pipe and it was soaking through the brick and into the fireplace. Two days later I called them again, for a suspected leak in my main water line. Once again they quickly located the problem. In both cases the repairs were done quickly at a fair cost. This is the most professional, competent and courteous service company for home repairs I have ever dealt with and I can see why they received a 2014 BBB Torch Award for Trust,Performance and Integrity. I only wish they could all be like Shafer. NOTE: They also provide heating/air conditioning service and I plan to use them for that as well

This is the second time I've had Shafer do this -- once in my previous house and now in this one. I know they do good work and will treat me well. The two units in this house were 30 years old, and though they were still functioning, they were noisy and inefficient, and I knew they were on their last legs. I have a service contract with Shafer, and when they came out to do the spring AC check they said the system was too dangerous because of its condition, that we risked fatal gas leaks. Booth came out and spent a lot of time figuring out just what we needed, both for the size and layout of our house and the way we lived. He returned with options and spent a lot more time going over them with us, discussing factors including upfront cost, long-range cost because of differences in efficiency and kinds of units, and financing. Within days, a team, including Booth, came out to plan for the installation, which was a "unique challenge," as they said, because of the age of the old units, which were in the attic and installed upright instead of horizontal, and the old ductwork, which was configured oddly and not in a way that was good for us. It all had to come out through the attic hatch and ladder. Some of the attic had been turned into storage rooms which had to be cut into to remove and install ductwork. Some rooms in the house needed new vents installed and others blocked, and some new returns were needed. Basically, they needed to start from scratch after removing all the old parts. They estimated four days to complete the job and it took almost five because of a few unanticipated problems, but they guaranteed their original price. Oscar, Charlie and Steve were a pleasure to have in the house. They put down runners to keep the floors clean, swept up every day when they finished, did what they could to keep our lives normal, were pleasant, worked hard and even liked our dogs, who were not happy at all about the disturbance of their lives. Michelle, who mans (or womans) the phones, always keeps us informed about who is coming and when, and always knows what's happening. As good as everyone at Shafer is, I think she is what keeps the place functioning smoothly.

The serviceman arrived promptly and completed the job to my satisfaction.

John, the plumber, was professional, personable and did a great job of explaining everything. Really good customer focus! I feel great about the thoroughness of this service.

They showed up exactly on time and installed a new water heater the attic of my 1-story house. The water heater is about 4' from the ladder that leads up into the attic. The work was performed quickly and relatively cleanly. I feel the trip charge was a little steep ($60 just to come here and give an estimate), but I have nothing to compare it to. The total cost was about $1400 (I supplied the new water heater, $1100 for labor, and $300 for some hoses and an expansion tank). It took about 2 hours to do the entire job. I feel that the labor price was a bit high, but I definitely couldn't do the job myself. I really did appreciate the fact that the guys showed up right on time, explained what they were going to do, and didn't make a giant mess. I would recommend this company and I would use them again. Sometimes you just have to pay a little extra to get good service.

We called him for a leaky faucet, he came out and temporarily fixed it. It kept leaking afterward, we called and he wanted to charge us $400 for a new faucet. My husband ended up fixing it successfully.

I loved it. I thought they were great. I've already recommended them to my sister.

I was having problems with my heater at one my rental properties and they came out (on time) and quickly fixed the problem. The tech was wonderful and professional. Highly recommended.

We signed up on a plan for them to come twice a year. They come out once to check the air conditioner and the other time to check the heating. If anything is wrong, then they recommend some service.

I am an Architect, with my wife as a client, for a kitchen remodel project. I was able to schedule, within only 1 week between initial call and service visit. This is very good for end of year holiday season. Plumber, Robert Lang, who did the work was great. He showed up when scheduled. He handled all work in a professional manner and was very helpful in explaining requirements for work and taking this Architect to school on the technical portions of the trade. Thanks Robert.

Exceeded expectations. They were on-time, professional and polite. They worked efficiently and quietly. The pricing was competitive. This was a minor job but, based on this experience, I would use on a major job without hesitation.

They came out quickly and they did some follow up work. They also installed a garbage disposal for us. They did a good job and it was reasonable. The man was professional and he came and put something on his shoes. They came within an hour and they called when they were on the road and I appreciated that.

Mark, the technician, was prompt and courteous. He made some adjustments and changed the filter. I'm happy with Shafer's work and will continue using them, even though their annual contract prices seem a bit high to me (I didn't have to pay for this visit so don't exactly remember how much it is). They were also the company to install my A/C and furnace unit and the hot water heater, so it's natural to use them to service what they sell and install.

They are a good company. They are prompt in their appointments. I get standard inspection service on three different areas and they call me periodically. If I haven't called them to set it up they'll call to make sure that I remember that that service is provided. They are not the cheapest in town but they are one of the premier contractors here in San Antonio.

First of all, Shafer Services quickly contacted me within minutes of requesting service. They then quickly scheduled a time when a plumber could come by my mother's residence. Chris called when he was on his way and arrived within the schedule window. Chris was very kind, courteous and very professional. He explained the process, troubleshot the situation and explain what the problem was. He gave me the estimate and got to work. He asked if I wanted him to walk me through the repair process since we have similar faucets throughout the home that are the same age that I can repair myself in the future. I am definitely happy with the service, the punctuality and the professionalism that Chris showed. I will definitely use them again if need be and will recommended them to friends and family that need their services. Thank you, Peter
