Stay away from Pool Johns. Pool Johns offered the best price and the owner, John, seemed to be the most professional in his approach. Our estimates were from one large pool repair service and two smail ones - which included Pool Johns. Our impressions changed once work started. The water fall replacement was a disaster. We had numerous meetings with John to discuss the waterfall design. While none of the pool companies we contacted had photo examples of their work including Pool John, Pool John seemed to understand the concept that my wife wanted but he did not provide an artist's concept. . We picked up and transported the rock ourselves since Pool John did not seem to want to do that. On the day of construction my wife stayed home to make sure that the design was what she had in mind. John himself was present with a work crew. My wife observed the first few hours and discussed the design with John. She emphazied that she did not want the waterfall to be symetircal and did not want concrete grout to be visibile. John seemed to have a handle on it and my wife departed for work after about 25-30% of the waterfall was completed. When we returned home that night, the waterfall was symetrical, had signficant concrete grout showing and was not at all what my wife had described.. John admitted he left right after my wife did and that his crew did not follow his instructions. John would not start all over but rather tried to fix the water fall based on construction already completed. He became very agitated when mistakes in construction or design were pointed out and he tried to blame my wife when she was not present. This caused me to become upset with him because I was present each time my wife explained what she wanted in the waterfall design. The deck repair appears to be well done. However, there were a lot of paint splatters on the pool coping that were not cleaned up. The same was true for the waterfall. Despite Pool John's attempt to clean the pool itself we were still left with sigificant sand and rock pieces on the pool bottom. We spent days cleaning up the mess. Additionally John had asked me if he should dispose of the rock from the old waterfall. I told him where he could put the rock on my property. His workers loaded all of the rock on my 16 ft utility trailer without asking. I ened up disposing of the rock myself because it did not apperar John was ever going to do it. He did not seem to notice. The bottom line, this company is too small for the task they agreed to do. Pool John does not have the rock masons capable of constructing a first class water fall. They should have photos of work they have done. John, the owner, intially presents a good impression but becomes angry and argumentative when questioned about quality or design. He promised spare paint for the deck and 6 weeks after completion has yet to deliver. He has not followed up after completion of work to see how things are going or if we were satisfied. I have concern that our 1 year warranty with him would not be honored. After some adjustements that we made the waterfall is about 75% acceptable. John stated to me more than once that he had given us a great price and implied that because of this we would have to accept what we got. While price was important, we were more interested in a a quality job. He also said more than once that after my wife talked to him several times about the design, that he considered dropping the project. Of course this was said after he had started the work and it was too late for us to break off.
Description of Work: Pool John was the highest rated swmming pool repair listed on Angies List a few months ago. I had 3 estimates to repir my pool deck, specifically to repair concrete "wings or sections" that had sunk below the level of the main pool deck, to reseal joints and to redo the sundeck or "Cool Deck" surface. Also, to replace the water fall.

I spent about $5,000 on that service and I think it went very well overall. I have known him for many years and I think that he is quite dependable. He started the work on time and finished it in a fairly short period time.
Description of Work: I used Pool John Swimming Repair in July and he did a major project for me and that included resurfacing of the pool and installation of some new equipment.

John was awesome! We had a pool pump that stopped working and our pool was about to overflow and the company we had worked with before wouldn't come out for days! John was recommened to us and he worked us into the schedule that day and had our pumped replaced the next day. We are planning to switch our maintenance over to his company also. He was very personable, easy to work with, and explained what we needed to do.
