Description of Work: Pat and team repaired a sagging ledger over my garage door. I received bids from several contractors and pjb was not the cheapest, but was not overly high. I chose pjb and am pleased. After removing the door and propping up the wall, Pat found that the header didn't need to be replaced, just the ledger and so consulted with me and brought the price down. The results were very nicely done and the job site was left clean. I had one minor issue that I pointed out and pat got it fixed right away.

Pat gave me a ball park figure over the phone which was appreciated as I was not sure of what range the job would be in. The crew was here on time. They were very professional and courteous. They did the job in a shorter time than anticapted, cleaned their work area and had me review the work. I am very happy with the service and will use them again.Overall great experience.
Description of Work: Several pieces of a door frame were splitting and needed replaced. I wasn't sure if the entire frame had to be replaced, or just the cracked pieces. PJB was able to replace just the cracked pieces.

Pat Barnett arrived promptly for the estimate. The estimate was comparable to the other estimates that we received. The work was started and finished on time. Any issues that we had, Pat promtly took care of them. He and the crew was professinal and curtious. The new doors have not fell off yet, so at this point, I honestly can say, I fill that Pat Barnett(PJB Contracting) has restored my faith in contractors.
Description of Work: Contractor repaired windows and doors. Installed new doors. Repaired siding. Repaired front porch.Rerouted cables and electrical wires. Int. and ext house painting. Installed carpet and tile. Drywall replaced.Replaced bathroom faucet. Electrical work inside and pluming outside.

They were great. He was extremely professional and competent. He gave me an estimate and sent out a young gentleman to do the work. The gentleman who came out was very cordial and knew exactly what he was doing. He was easy to work with and you wouldn’t mind having him in your house. He consulted with me the whole time so that it was the way I wanted it to be. He tried to clean up after himself. However as it was in the bathtub, it wasn't as clean as I wanted it to be. I would use them again in future.

I respect that he followed up, and am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I would have preferred an email or call or something to let me know it would be a while before he could give a quote, but everyone has busy times and things that arise. He has received lots of good responses in the past, so I am assuming this is just a blip in his regular M.O. of responsiveness. Overall, I am satisfied with the Angie's list procedure and with this vendor, at least at this stage. I assume his work is good, too, but haven't had any work done, so can't speak to that.
Description of Work: The contractor just emailed and said he saw my Angie's List report, and explained that he had been busy with paperwork, etc. and apologized for the late response. In my previous report, I wrote that I would update my evaluation if I heard back from him, which I did, thanks to Angie's list. I appreciate that he took the time to follow up rather than just to let a bad report go without a response. We haven't decided whether to hire him based on the price quoted, but at least we got a response and he was nice about it, which is a welcome change from many people in the industry. I would consider hiring him based on that, but need to review the price more.

Mr. Barnett showed up and discussed the project, and then said he would email me with an estimate. It's been a week and he hasn't emailed or called. I get the feeling he decided he didn't want to do it, but he could have told me at the time of his visit that the job was too small or that he didn't have the time or whatever. Very disappointed and still waiting. If he ever calls back or emails with an explanation, I will update this report, but right now I am trying to figure out why he hasn't given us an estimate - he made it sound like he could do the job but just dropped off the face of the earth. I am not sure I should have to call him to beg him for an estimate.

Description of Work: Met with me to review the work to be quoted, but never bothered to quote or to tell me he was not intesested in doing the work. Just never heard from him again after we met at my home. I wish contractors would be upfront. If they do not interested in doing the work, tell me while at my home, or send me an email or call me.

I appreciate your taking the time to post your comments. We are very interested in doing the work. I just today sent a bid for this work. It is true that i am beind on paperwork. Usually I remember to make it clear when I think that it might take me longer to get a bid out than the customer might reasonably expect. Apparently i forgot to do so in this case. I apologize for that.

I have an old house that needed new windows and siding. To reduce costs I removed the siding and PJB removed the old windows and installed the new windows and siding. This job required a lot of coordination between me and the contractor. Pat (owner of PJB) was very easy to work with. When the original estimate had to be amended (due to unanticipated additional structural work needed for one wall), Pat worked with me to control overall costs. We agreed that I would take on more of the inside work (trim and painting) and they would do the extra structural repairs. This is my fourth house and so I have worked with many contractors. This was my best experience by far. PJB does high quality work at a reasonable price. They are punctual and responsive to phone/email and they cleaned up after each day of work. I can't think of any negatives.

I discovered I had a door to the outside that had settled and I could not get it locked. I was very unsettled about a door to the outside I could not lock. I called two other businesses on Angie's List but they could not come the same day (I didn't call until after 2:00 p.m.). I called PJB and he came, fixed my door and was gone by shortly after 5:00 p.m. He responded to my emergency situation which I very much appreciated. I will call him again when I have other things around the house that need repairing. He also gave me a lead on another person to take care of restaining my deck.

They were recommended to me by a friend. I had contacted a contractor to get a bid for the deck. He had come out and measured everything. He gave us some suggestions on what to do and what he thought would be good. He had brought a crew the next morning that put up all the forms for it and also gave some other suggestions. They called the next morning and said it would be a week before they came out to pour the concrete and do some other jobs. I called them and asked them to come a bit earlier. They later came and poured the concrete and stamped it.

Very well. Due to logistics, it took a little longer than initially planned but Pat and his team were extremely professional and took care of every detail. They even did some extra things I pointed out to them. We're very happy with the result. Pat was very cost conscious and we're delighted to have an extra 65 sq.ft of living space for the price.
Description of Work: Reclaimed walk-in attic space into the gameroom. Work included tearing down the gameroom wall, reinforcing the rafters, closing off attic entry from bedroom, enclosing an A/C duct in a column, inserting a new half-door to rest of attic, insulation, sheetrock, painting, electrical and carpet. Also, included repairing my fence gate and replace the runners which had rotten through.

It went perfectly from start to finish. Quotes were accurate, work was conducted in a timely and considerate fashion. PJB advised on various other home improvement concerns and recommended skilled people who turned out to be excellent (for example, for drywall repair).
Description of Work: We bought a ranch house in Austin in 2005 and immediately joined our local neighborhood association list-serve (Windsor Park). I noticed great reports for PJB and called them in 2006 to fix a 1960's sliding door frame that had jammed. In 2007 we began fixing up our house to sell. PJB Contracting performed a series of jobs that included removing burglar bars and shutters; removing and replacing a porch post; patching holes in exterior siding; removing a shower door and replacing broken flashing on the roof; drilling new house numbers to brick; and repairing guttering.

Pat was very easy to reach during the work day and was willing to communicate via email. He always answered emails promptly, kept me informed about the progress of the job, and requested guidance appropriately for making changes or solving unexpected problems. His subcontractors were all very skilled and responsible. The quality of work was consistently high and I am looking forward to working with him again on later projects.

Contacted Pat at PJB based upon a good Angie's list rating. I have relocated to another state and I was back in Austin for a short period and wanted to hire a contractor to perform work on my house in Austin in preparation for sale. I contacted Pat and we scheduled an appointment at my house. Pat arrived on time and seemed like a nice enough guy. We spent about 30 minutes going over the extensive list of items that I needed painted or fixed. Pat left with a promise to get me a quote soon. Due to my limited availability in Austin, I told all the contractors that I arranged appointments with, that I was looking for a quote within several days as I wanted to finalize the contract before I left Austin. Unfortunately, I never got a quote from Pat. About 20 days later I received the following email: "I apologize for not following through with getting you an estimate like I promised. I have been very behind on paperwork. I know that you were in a rush, and so, I was not able to come through for you. I hope that you were able to find someone to do a good job for you." I have no problem if someone doesn't want to bid my job but it would have been nice to hear from him sooner so we didn't wait on his bid before we moved forward with another contractor. We finally just set a drop dead date for contractor quotes and moved forward from there.
Description of Work: I recently relocated and needed to have some exterior and interior work done on my house in Austin in preparation for sale. I was looking for a contractor to perform the following services: Exterior siding and trim replacement, soffit repair, drywall repair, wall texturing, interior trim installation, trim and cabinet painting, floor transition installation, interior wall and ceiling painting. Painting in almost every room in my house. Garage needed to be completely re-taped and floated.

Pat and his team are fabulous. I have to admit I did not get any other bids. This is because I couldn't get a response or they were booked months in advance. After meeting with Pat though, I was very comfortable with him and did not have any hesitations about moving forward. The construction work is done by Pat and his employees, the electrical and sheetrock were excellent sub-contractors. Another great thing about Pat is that nothing seems to ruffle him, you want your doorway widened an additional 10 inches, no problem. You decide you want another built-in shelf unit, that's fine too. As long as you are willing to pay, Pat will accommodate you.
Description of Work: My job consisted of the the installation of 2 pocket doors, construction of 2 shelving units, widening a doorway, ceramic tile patching, trash removal and supervising the electrical, popcorn scraping and sheetrock patching tasks.

Spectacularly. We had 3 contractors come out to bid. The first never sent a bid in despite promises to do so. The second took about 5 minutes to look around and sent us a pretty large bid. PJB came by and spent 40 minutes looking at the job, trying to decide how he'd approach it, breaking each part out and really listening to my wife and me. His bid was about half the price of the other one and the final product was on schedule, high quality and on budget. Most importantly, he was willing to make modifications to the project as we went to expand its scope and the price came in proportionately higher, that is in line with the original estimate. He is first rate. My wife and I wish we had some other work for him or friends who were looking at remodeling so we could give him more business.
Description of Work: Removed the side off the house. Installed a 6 inch concrete curb to set the new wall on to prevent flooding. Demoed and replaced all sheetrock in the room.

Pat was super responsive and very prompt in scheduling us for repair. I was worried that such a repair would be considered too small, but he surveyed the damage from an over-eager squirrel in our siding and gave us a fair bid. He was very prompt and polite, and was willing to work around our schedules. The work was completed in one afternoon and Pat came back the following day (it rained hard overnight) to make sure the paint was okay. We were concerned about the condition of our remaining siding, and asked Pat for a bid to replace it. He advised us instead to stay on top of maintenance with caulk and paint, because that's what he would do with his own house. We really appreciated his honesty! Pat sends out his invoices via email AND accepts PayPal in addition to the usual payment methods. We're starting to think about kitchen remodeling and we will certainly get back in touch with Pat for a bid. I found Pat through the Austin BBB and I think he's a good addition to Angie's List!
Description of Work: Repaired large hole in house siding caused by rodent; replaced insulation, tyvek wrap, cedar siding, primed and painted to match existing siding. Did a visual inspection of remaining siding to ensure no other damage had been done.
