Paradise Decks and Spas has earned the reputation as one of the finest residential and commercial deck builders in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. We have completed several thousand projects and additions, offering decks and so much more. Our creative designs and the quality of materials are second to none and our customers reap the benefits. What sets us apart as a leader in customer service is the individual attention we give to each deck, arbor, patio cover, gazebo, outdoor kitchens and fireplace we build. We honor our military families with a 10% discount.
The decking recommended by Paradise and sold by the yard next door to them (Austin Wholesalers Decking Supply) is called Oasis by Alcoa which has a 25 year warranty. Alcoa has been sold to another company and they do not respond to calls or letters at all. The decking has been up for only 10 years and is coming apart (see photo). Splitting and warping. Paradise came out twice in the first couple of years and replaced bad boards but will not do anything at this point including helping with the warranty. Neither Paradise or Austin Wholesalers who I have also talked to have helped on the warranty or offered replacement. The crew they sent out when the decks were built were a sub crew and probably their "D" team. After the largest deck was completed (probably 16' × 40') Paradise had to send someone out to re-level the deck due to sagging. If you're looking for someone who will help you with warrantys on the products they sell these wouldn't be the guy's you want. If they recommend a product they should back it up.
Description of Work: We had three composite decks installed by Paradise Decks. We used the composite decking they were pushing at the time on their recommendation.

I would have given them a good rating, but the guys took my keys, took my screen door and didn't even put all the material up on the screen doors. I've been calling them and calling them and they're giving me a runaround. I don't like that. I paid you all this money. They took everything and now the door doesn't latch. I have dogs and I'm trying to keep them off my patio. They didn't even latch the doors even though they built the doors for free because they enclosed my patio and I was doing it in stages. So, I enclosed the patio. So they had to take the doors down, which those doors were busted up anyway. So they had the type of doors to go in inward, instead of out, where they're building the deck. They did it for free, but then they didn't put all the hardware on the doors. I'm kind of pissed off. I called her two days ago and she hasn't called me back yet. This has been going on for over a week that I've been trying to get them to do this. I'm still going back and forth with them. They took my stuff and they didn't even put the stuff back right. I was going to do the other side with them and now, I may not even do the other side with them. The price was good. The deck itself is good.

Paradise decks & spas came out to a rental property and spent a couple days putting everything up and it was excellent. I especially appreciated them because we changed what we agreed to do initially. I decided we wanted a roof over the patio and they weren't planning on putting up a roof. I researched what materials we would need and the cost. Once I talked to them about what I wanted they said they could get the materials for the roof and put it on for less than what the materials I found would cost me and they did just that and it worked out extremely well. I would highly recommend this company.

The initial meeting took about 3 hours and I did receive a drawing and all of the info I need to make a decision. It didn't really matter to me but be aware that they do use pressure sales tactics. They want the husband and wife to be there for the entire discussion and will apply pressure to close the deal. This was a large job and we were able to negotiate a good initial price. However, I asked for a hog wire railing over their standard railing and the price of the railing doubled costing an additional $3000. I asked other companies, bidding on this work, the same question after receiving an initial quote and the price did not change at all. So I was suspicious when Paradise would not provide me an explanation. I can only surmise that they later decided they did not want the job and raised the price so I would back out. Even though they tout BBB accreditation, etc., this company is justifiably a B player among Angie's list deck companies. You will save time by steering clear of the games they play.

Our sales & design consultant, Russ, was very patient and knowledgeable during the entire design process. Having a showroom to see the workmanship and products was great to envision how the project would turn out. The construction manager, Mack, ended up being our carpenter which was very fortunate. We wanted the deck ready in 2 weeks for a birthday party. Although the project was not totally complete for the party, the key areas that we wanted to use were complete despite some unexpected material delivery delays at the beginning. The deck has now become our family's favorite spot. Throughout the process, Mack and Russ were great about answering our questions and explaining all the specific decorative and structural details they add to create a high quality deck. We are extremely pleased with the deck and impressed that every component (down to the gates) are custom-made on the construction site. Not a single item was pre-fabricated. Mack is fabulous. We do wish, however, that their staff spent more time with us to provide a one-on-one hot tub set-up, especially since Russ and Mack are so hands-on and personal.
Description of Work: Paradise built a 50' multi-level deck, with hot tub platform, privacy screen, hidden dry storage, two staircases, and a tree platform for our home. We also purchased a 7'x7' hot tub from them. They estimated 2 weeks to complete and finished in 12 work days. To meet out deadline, they even came out on a Saturday to meet our deadline.

I would give than F but the guy who actually built the screen room did a good job. Don't expect them to offer a complete project if you are having a roof line extended because they will pull of the gutter but not replace it and they won't paint or stain any project they construct so plan on extra expense. The lack of communication with the company was aggravating. Don't call if you want information because your salesman is the only one who you can talk to, as you will be rudely told. 60 days after the contract was signed they called, with all sorts of excuses about the delay, to start construction. They subbed out the concrete work and those folks worked at their own pace after working on one or more other sites first so it took 5 days to get the concrete forms in and get them inspected for a 5 foot by 20 foot extension to the porch. The concrete finally got poured but it was an additional cost to the quoted price. The screen room got constructed but it was not as promised during the sales pitch. When I asked about the changes in materials, I was told the salesman misrepresented the product and that he was no longer with the company and there were many complaints about his work. They did not call to ask if I still wanted the project to continue when they knew they had an unethical salesman. I asked to have some adjustments made to the two doors that had been constructed when the company representative picked up the final check on 10 June. He assured me he would get that scheduled and I haven't heard from them since.

As I was talking to this guy on the phone, I got the distinct impression that he questioned whether as a women I would be competent to make a decision without my husband. I had heard stories that they get both of you at house and do hard sell rather than allowing homeowner to take bids at their own pace. I discounted this as being sour grapes from other providers but I am inclined to believe it at this point.
Description of Work: We scheduled an appointment with Paradise after the Home and Garden show. The date arrived and I got an early call from Paradise and it was a odd conversation. They wanted me to assure them I would be home. I told them so three times and they kept questioning the truth of my answer. Then they asked if my husband were going to be home. I said no, and asked why was this important. They said they wanted to present to us both. I said I was the only one going to be present and was the decision maker on this project (I am a construction lawyer). They called later again and once again asked if my husband would be home. I said no he had to go to work and if they insisted on making this a condition, they would lose the opportunity to bid. He said "sorry" and hung up. And no one came to the scheduled appt. I am furious and it was NEVER made clear at the Home and Garden this was some kind of crazy condition. BUYER BEWARE with this company!!! Totally unprofessional. I guess they didn't want our measly $17,000 JOB!

Workmanship on deck was excellent. Patio roof extension was satisfactory. Chief detractor was a leak issue somewhere vicinity of where new rood connected with original construction. Vendor attempted to locate problem & fix at least twice, but every time it rains a lot (which is not often!), the leak persists. In retrospect, I would locate a vendor that provides one-stop shopping; e.g., had to arrange separately for electrical work. Vendor also out sourced masonry work.

From contract date to finish was just over two weeks. George, the owner, was very responsive and polite. The guys doing the work were also very polite and courteous. We couldn't be happier with the quality of the deck. They came out two weeks later to stain, which was such a nice touch. We paid for the stain, but they applied it. They stain application was not the best, but I still prefer it over having to do it myself.

The experience was awful. At first they were nice and quoted us a price and did the job. A year later we found out they did not file the proper paperwork, it wasn't built to code, and they yelled at me on the phone on several occasions when requested to fix their mistakes so we could sell our home.

I am absolutely pleased with the deck and their service. They were a true partner as they educated me as I made decisions on the project. The demolition team was careful, orderly and cleaned up without incident. The carpenter had to be a master carpenter as the work completed is without a doubt flawless and the craftsmanship speaks for itself. Staff were professional and accommodating.

There were so many changes in management. I gave them $900 just to paint it and the guy never came to paint it. They fired him. I never got my money back and he never finished painting the deck. They came and put cheap wood on the top. It is up there, unpainted, all weathered and cracked. I ended up paying $15,000 for basically a $800 deck. Whatever you do, if you hire them make sure you don't give them any money until they are done. I made the last payment when they were only half done. That was a mistake on my part.

Completely satisfied. Kyle Brooks worked with us on the design, was our primary POC, and was a pleasure to work with. Delayed slightly because of 5and quot; of rain, their carpenter finished the prep and construction in four days. We also went with their recommendation for an electrical contractor, Kim Botten, and he was very professional, responsive, and did excellent work. Their roofer also was on-time and thorough. Finally, we ordered a 2015 7x7 Cal Spa and the Paradise guys installed it carefully, filled the tub, and did not rush us through going over the instructions. We stopped in at the dealer often during the time from when we ordered the spa until the project was completed.....the owner Rick, Kyle, and other employees to include Jamie (sp?) who handled the payments were always accommodating with our questions and always friendly. I had previously used Paradise for a massive two-story deck project in 2008 at my previous home and was also completely satisfied with their work. So I didn't hesitate to hire them again.

The saleman came out and discussed what we wanted. They were able to articulate on paper the design we had in our heads. Once the design was done and approved, we negotiated a very fair price. The job went as planned with no mishaps along the way. The contractor who actually did the work was exceptional and I would recommend and use him again. He came out as expected and built the deck by himself. My husband was home during the time and the contractor was very personable and explained everything he was doing and why. We left for vacation soon after and came home to an amazing deck. Although not part of the original plan, once the deck was in (and since it is raised), the contractors explained to us how he could close it in as my concern was animals getting under the deck. He gave us a great price and completed the work much to our delight and my satisfaction. In the end, working with Paradise Deck was a great experience and resulted in an amazing deck on which we entertain regularly.

I finally reached the person who had promised me information, and quot;Johnand quot;, on Saturday. At that time, he became very defensive when I asked why he hadn't called me as promised, stating that and quot;everyone looks at their deck the first of Spring and we are just swampedand quot;. He also said (several times) that I was and quot;third on his listand quot;. He then proceeded to throw one of his co-workers under the bus, saying that he and quot;didn't know what was taking her so longand quot; to make a decision. I'm glad I'm not his co-worker! Jamie, look out! I told him that I wasn't upset that he hadn't been able to get to a decision, and that I understood he was busy, but that he should have called me back to ask for more time, instead of just leaving me wondering what was going on. He said that and quot;calling to say I don't have an answer is pointlessand quot;. At that point, I lost my cool and told him, and quot; No. That is how business is done right.and quot; I thanked him and hung up. He was extremely rude and unprofessional, and I would never contact this company again for any of my other outdoor needs.
Description of Work: They contracted for the original structure, and if I were able to still work with that person, the rating would have been dramatically different. I was very pleased with that contractor and the work performed. I had asked them to come out to see if needed repairs would be covered under warranty. They came on Monday the 17th and promised me information about whether it is covered by that afternoon or the next morning, depending on what time they were able to come out. I called on Tuesday afternoon and was promised information no later than the next day. I called again the next day and the day after that, but was told that the person I needed to talk to wasn't there; I left messages, but he did not return my calls.

I signed up at the Home and Garden show to have someone from Paradise come to my home for an estimate to replace the pergola over my patio. I took time off from work to meet the estimator who arrived about 20 minutes late. He took measurements and pictures and I asked him to let me know when he had an estimate becuase I had to get back to work. He never called back so basically I wasted 2 hours of my day and had to take time away from work for nothing.

Tony came to my house and drew up a simple plan. It was exactly what I wanted and the price was more than fair. I did add a few things prior to the actual construction starting and they were pleasant and professional both times. The concrete work was done first and looked great considering they had to add to each side to get the size patio I wanted. I had to wait a few weeks for the patio cover due to the rains we had (they got behind on other jobs). My only complaint would be the communication. It seems that I had to call them to get updates on where I was in the schedule. They said 2 weeks and it turned into 3 or 4. Then they said they would be there at a certain time but did not show up until 1-1 1/2 hour later. They said they would be there one day but never showed, but they also did not call me, I had to call them. I understand the construction industry has its problems with things changing at the last minute, that's one thing that makes it such a tough industry, but I do feel that some of the commmunication could have been a little better. Overall, I am very pleased with the work they did. I now have a larger patio and it's covered - I love it. The construction work on the patio cover is superb. I have recommended them to my neighbors and I would use them again.

They are not super cheap but the quality was there and that is what I was really looking for. It was a little over $3000 which was reasonable but at the same time it is not that big, I was hoping that it would be cheaper. Overall I was happy. They were just fast. The whole reason I built the sun room was that my cat could be outside. She gets like cabin fever when she is inside the house. But when she is outside I need to watch her so that she would not go away. So I decided to build a sunscreen room and once I have an idea in my head I want to make it happen as soon as possible but these things don't happen quickly. They did a good job of making it possible as fast as possible. They also worked with me. Another thing that they did which I really liked was that it is not like a rectangular screen room it has a little porch, or like a ledge where they can just jump. The cats love it and they enclosed that little ledge with screen as well. The guy did make it happen. He gave me ideas, he helped me out, gave me what I wanted. I am so super happy with this room.

At first it was great. The salesperson drew out the deck of our dreams. It was a two level deck with a handicap ramp for my brother that is special needs. The deck wraps around my pool as well with it on privacy fence. Corey Byron did all of the carpentry. The sale person failed to make adjustments for the ramp based on elevation and grade. They tried to charge me more after the fact for the new ramp design. The redesign was because of their error. Close to completion the sales person came to our house to inspect. He then proceeded to talk down to my wife about all of the extra work they had to do. We did not ask for anything more than what was on the contract. He made his point that we got a good deal and that we shouldn’t question any of the additional charges that were not on the contract. Ultimately Mike the construction manager got involved and made it all right. There were no additional charges added and we paid exactly what the contract has said we would pay. Big thanks to Mike and Paradise Decks for staying true to their word. That means a lot these days. I have the Deck of my dreams and now my whole family can enjoy it for many years to come. Also I want to Thank Corey Byron of Driftwood Construction. He is a master of building!

When I called them, they had one of their consultants come out here who took all the measurements and did his drawings right there in front of us and gave us different options. We negotiated the price and called a stack and the contractor actually came out here and explained everything for us all the way to the process. He got the deck done on the time it needed to be done for a party. Everything was completed on the time they expected it would be and the payment was just as they said it would be. There were no hassles and the craftsmanship was great. I think Criss was the guy's name doing the actual construction and he and his team were busted to getting it done even though Criss was sick at that time.
