Mustard Seed Moving Co

Moving Companies, Piano Movers, Storage

About us

Mustard Seed Moving Co of San Antonio is unique in that we are dedicated to staying small, to keep our reputation big. Instead of growing the company to add more trucks and teams, we remain as 1 small, skilled team. The owner of the company, Andrew Sengler, personally assists with the labor for 99% of the moves performed, along with his qualified team. Our website is very informative and includes information about our rates. We also are unique in that we can deliver and pick up good-condition moving boxes before and after a local move. Our box division is called Box-Go-Round. Box-Go-Round prepares you for your move by making it easy to get the right type and right number of boxes. We have a rolling warehouse of new and used moving boxes and moving supplies that conveniently goes to your location, helps you formulate your order and immediately delivers your moving boxes and packaging supplies. We also have packing service available, even if it is just your kitchen you want packed. If your move was a local move, we will pick up your boxes after you are finished with them (free service for 30 or more boxes), or you can bring them back to our warehouse. We offer full refunds for new, unused boxes that you purchased through us. We also buy back any gently-used boxes that you purchased new through us and bring back to our warehouse. Our local delivery is free, as is our local pick up service, as long as the minimum size order requirements are met. All of our prices are posted on our website and they are always current. We carry new and used boxes including wardrobe, dish pack, mirror, small book, medium, large & x-large. We also carry tape, blank newsprint packing paper, moving pads, markers and other important moving and packing supplies. We are based in San Antonio, TX and our warehouse is near Culebra and 1604, on the NW side of town. Cost is determined by the job. Additional DBA - Box-Go-Round. Additional address- 8223 Leslie Rd, San Antonio, TX 78254.

Mustard Seed was on time took a quick tour and started to work. Very nice and friendly guys and it didn't take too long to see they knew what they were doing. They were going to have 2 trucks but at the last minute Andrew called and said one of his drivers was in an accident and wanted to know if it was all right to finish up on Sunday which was not a problem for us. After they loaded up Andrew text us to let us know they were going to stop and get lunch and to let us know what time they would arrive. Nothing was damaged when finished unloading. I would highly recommend Mustard Seed. Excellent communication, service, and care of furniture.

We had a great experience with Mustard Seed Movers! Our original appointment for service was Saturday, but Andrew was aware that we closed on our house on Friday. When a slot became open, he gladly got us moved in the day of our closing. In fact, they were packing their truck while we signed our closing docs and by the afternoon all our stuff was delivered. Everything was handled with care and many heavy items were placed upstairs including all bedroom furniture and washer/dryer. We only have good things to say about Andrew and his team.

Owner called back to apologize for his lack of responsiveness. Office manager is his wife. Like my original post indicated, one of the nicest guys you will ever talk to. Not sure he can be counted to communicate at critical times when you need to. Will give him another look if current moving company plans fall through.

We have recently switched to communicating by email when swamped, so that I can respond during hours of the day (and night) at which phone calls are not practical, and so I can better keep track of our communication. It has been very helpful in avoiding this problem. I strongly recommend emailing us directly at andrew@mustardseedmoving.com, rather than through the Angie's List emailing system. I am able to respond more quickly when the email comes to me directly because I do not have to log into the Angie's List website to respond. When emailing, please include the date of your move, so I can quickly let you know if we are available or not. I will typically respond within 2 days, and sometimes as fast as within a few minutes.

It was an excellent experience. I called, left a message and got a call-back the same day. We discussed the job, and made a tentative appointment for the next day. They were running about 30 minutes late, but sent me a text as soon as this was apparent. Technically, they were on time. They were extremely careful in wrapping the cabinet and in moving it. Although it was a small job they were totally engaged in the task and I was totally satisfied.

This company was recommended to me by a friend - don't be worried that this is an owner-operated business. You may need to give Andrew a little time to respond - its because he's in the field moving others. That's a good thing - he supervises his employees and ensures your move goes as planned.
Description of Work: After 40+ years of military related moves I've found the best movers on the planet! Andrew and his crew moved us into our dream home as promised, on time, and not a thing was damaged -- not a mark on anything! They assembled and reassembled everything with ease - they handled difficult situations with ease.

Our first experience was a complicated move of furnishings between San Antonio to Austin to Ft Worth to Austin to San Antonio. We had to use 4 storage units and without Andrew's help, we would have needed about 6. He packed the storage units just like the trucks and my belongings were not broken or damaged. My daughter got quotes from multiple companies for the Fort Worth to Austin portion. Mustard Seed was competative and actually slightly lower than the other companies she called. Then we were so pleased with Andrew, the owner, and his crew, that we used them for 3 additional moves and one in home furniture move. The last time I used Mustard Seed was to move furniture within my house. They were great once again! On time, fast and very careful with my furniture. I have used them for 4 moves, and given their names to two other people who used them and were just as pleased. I have moved with the large corporate moving companies 8 times over the last 30 years. Andrew and his crew were as professional or more so than the corporate moving companies. They came to work, packing and loading. No wasted time. No time lost because they did not have enough boxes or packing materials- a REAL pet peeve of mine. They delivered exactly what was agreed and promised. Mustard Seed will be my mover from now on. I highly recommend their services.
Description of Work: Moved furniture between 3 homes and 3 cities. Packed one house. Packed out 4 storage units. Moved us 3 times. Most recently he moved furniture within my home, upstairs to downstairs and reverse.

Mustard Seed was amazing! I have had many poor experiences with movers and as log as I'm in San Antonio, I'll never use anyone but this company again. They were great at keeping up communication in the days before the move, they were meticulous about wrapping and safely moving things, and they were very friendly and helpful for the entire day. I've never had movers who didn't ding a single piece of furniture or a wall, but Mustard Seed takes the time to do it right the first time. I can't recommend them highly enough. I've already recommended them to others!

Went well and all work was performed as expected and better. Excellent movers!
Description of Work: The team arrived on time and took a really good care of our furniture and piano. We had an older desk that would have fallen apart if lifted or disassembled. I was not sure if it would survive the move. Andrew and his team did an excellent job and moved the desk in one piece from one house into the other. Very careful movers, very reasonable. I only wish that communication would be a little bit better in terms of confirming the day and returning the e-mails. But I have to give Mustard Seed credit: we got all of our phone called answered immediately. I will definitely hire the company again and recommend them to our friends.

We did not hire them as they never answered the phone.
Description of Work: As their reviews on Angie's List looked good at the time, we called Mustard Seed numerous times over a period of a week when we were trying to decide whom to hire for our move. . They never picked up the phone and the voicemail box was always full. This is not how professionals do business. It is best not to waste time trying to call them. There are other good movers.

Sorry, Angie’s list member. We had a new arrival in our family -- Oliver Sengler -- born on February 1st, weighing in at 7 lbs. He and mother are doing well, but it has been an adjustment. I personally offer my apology to any Angie’s List member that has not been able to contact us, as I'm sure there have been more than just you. We are still in business, and have plenty of openings left in February, since we have not been taking many calls. Remember, if you cannot reach me by phone, emailing me through Angie's List is the next best way. Just be sure to put your anticipated move date in the email.

Overall, it went very well.
Description of Work: Mustard Seed Movers were tireless and energetic in packing and completing our local move. My only criticism is that the time given for packing and unloading was underestimated by several hours. (I had to cancel 2 appointments as a result.) Overall, they were impressive and efficient - nothing was broken!

Thank you for your review, member. I am happy to hear that you were satisfied with our performance. Estimating durations is always a challenge, and in your case, I am sorry that it impacted your other appointments. My advice to all members to be very cautious when attempting to schedule other contractors on move day -- it is always hard to say with a high degree of accuracy when packing, loading, or unloading will be complete. On this particular move, my wife went into labor during the first day of the job, which slowed down the packing progress considerably for the first day because I had to leave the job site to be with her. As a result, we had to put in a few extra hours on the second day of the move. Thank you, member, for your understanding with that situation! Baby Oliver is doing well, and is now a healthy 11-day-old little boy.

Initially, I was concerned that a small company like Mustard Seed would be able to get my job done in the time frame I needed. Not only did they out-perform my expectations, they did it under some very unsettling weather. Andrew and his team arrived exactly as promised and started to work. The objective was to pack and load on day 1 and transport and unload on day 2. While day 1 took a little longer than expected/quoted, mission was accomplished. As a side note, only one thing was damaged and the only reason I know about it is the packer came up to me immediately with the broken glass and asked if he could pay for it. The answer was no. I left that evening to go north to make sure the new house was ready and that the weather had not caused any significant problems for bringing the truck onto the property (farm land). As scheduled, Andrew called me when they were about 30 minutes away. They got there and began the process of unloading and placing furniture where I directed them. All went perfectly well. No damage to the household goods and they were very respectful of the new house. Needless to say, my initial reservations about this "small" company were unfounded. I am extremely pleased and in all honesty, cannot think of a single thing about which to complain. I would highly recommend Mustard Seed Moving to anyone who asks.

This moving experience was the best! Andrew did exactly as he promised from meeting us at the storage units on time to quickly and carefully moving our 5 storage units of possessions to our new home 2 hours away. He was able to change the moving date back for us and work around construction workers, which had to be a pain. They were very professional, polite, careful, and I recommend them highly. Andrew is a little hard to reach by phone, so I found emailing him worked best. He is worth the wait, so keep trying if you have trouble calling him. Your prized possessions are safe in his and his crew's caring hands. After finding Andrew I wouldn't use anyone else!
Description of Work: Andrew met my husband at the storage facility to give us a free quote. Then, they moved our 5 storage units 2 hours away in a day and a half. The large 18 wheelers can't get through our driveway, so it took 2 trips with the smaller truck, adding 4 hours of drive time, but the job was still done with no complaints and expeditiously.

Andrew was great to work with! He was very flexible and understanding as we had several issues that caused starts and stops with the piano move. Andrew was very meticulous and gave his helper very detailed instructions on how to properly move the piano. Andrew was present for the job and was the actual lead. Andrew also told us exactly what he was going to do during each phase of the move. The actual cost came in under the bid estimate. Andrew seems to be very honest, detailed, caring, professional and dedicated. I would use Andrew again in a heartbeat. Andrew actually made the move fun. What great customer service.
Description of Work: Andrew was hired to move an upright piano from Leon Valley to the Floresville area. Andrew and one helper moved the piano (as well as the piano bench) from the house, secured the piano in a large trailer and then transported the piano to our house in Floresville. Prior to leaving Leon Valley, Andrew checked the route with me to make sure that that was the best and shortest route (to save us money). We have a very long driveway and Andrew backed up the trailer to the house with ease (or so it seemed to me). He even had to navigate a fleet of vehicles that were parked in the driveway. He is very skilled behind the steering wheel! Andrew and his helper carefully moved the piano into the house and made sure we were absolutely happy with the location prior to leaving. Note: Andrew is constantly talking to his helper and the client to make sure everyone knows exactly what is happening at all times.

Our 700 lb safe was delivered to our house on 12-20-2012. I knew I couldn't move it so I checked Angie's List. Mustard Seed was the first listing and, by far, THE most Outstanding! I called at about 1000 hrs on 12-21 and spoke with Andrew, the owner. After some pleasantries, I described the job and Andrew said they could do it easily and would I like it done that day. I said that would be great. Andrew asked me to take some pictures of the steps, the front door entrance, the foyer, and the office and text them to him. I did and within about 5 minutes, he texted me back and said they would arrive around 5 PM when they finished the job they were currently doing. About 4:30 PM, I got a text from Andrew saying they would be at my house at 5 PM. Andrew, Philip, and Greg arrived precisely as promised. After introductions, Andrew asked to inspect the route to the office and the safe placement location. He then reviewed the straight forward contract and job price. He then walked his team through the move, put a wood floor protector down on the foyer tile floor and a wood ramp over the hard wood threshold into the hard wood floor office. They padded the safe to protect it from scratches and loaded it onto a heavy duty appliance dolly. Philip was the muscle on the front end of the dolly, Andrew guided and helped Greg add muscle to the back end of the dolly. The move into the office went very smooth. Andrew guided Philip into the final position on my Lexan pad and the 3 of them gently lowered the safe into place. From start to finish, the entire job took only 23 minutes and they honored my Angie's List discount coupon! Andrew and his team know what they are doing and are the consummate professionals! I will use Mustard Seed Moving for all my future moves. If you are looking for an extremely professional moving company capable of normal or heavy/outsized object moving, look no further. I give Andrew and his team at Mustard Seed my highest recommendation.

I was overall pleased with Mustard Seed. We had to pay for the time it took them to get from their warehouse (which is on the opposite side of town) to our move and back, which was pricey, but after reading reviews I thought it was worth a try. They weren't timely in thier response to questions at first but I got my move scheduled, it had to get rescheduled and Andrew kept trying to up-sell me more workers. I couldn't afford more so I went with two. Andrew made clear he would be present for the entire moving process and when they showed up he was not there. I never met him. It was disappointing when I thought certain people would show up and they didn't. Eitherway the crew who showed up was good. I thought they were a little slow and felt the move took a little longer than it should (they do get paid by the hour, not the move itself). My husband and I even both helped with carrying stuff out and had them put all the boxes in the garage of the new place. They damaged my new refrigerator getting it into the house and didn't have much more to say about it other than "oops" wich made me quite upset. I wrote on the invoice sheet where the damaged items sections was that this happened but never so much as received a phone call to address the problem. This is what turned me off and I don't think I would use them again since I felt like it was about making the most money and no taking care of problems the crew created. Still, these were some of the better hired movers we have had and they would be worth a shot.

Response from Mustard Seed Moving Co
We have a contract that each customer agrees to. Number 3 on that contract states that if a non-crew member (someone other than a Mustard Seed Moving worker) assists with the move, that we will not provide any liability coverage for damages that incur while they are helping. Basically, you can help at your own risk. In this case, a member of the family was assisting with the moving of the refrigerator (without our request or prompting), and the wrong forces were applied to the refrigerator while going through a narrow doorway, over a raised threshold. The imbalanced and improperly-timed pushing caused the refrigerator to bump the door, creating a dent in the appliance. The family member indicated that the refrigerator was purchased at a "scratch-and-dent" sale, due to preexisting cosmetic damages, and that the situation was not something to be concerned about. The person who scheduled the move (the Angie’s List member who wrote this review), indicated on the paperwork that the refrigerator was dented, but also wrote the word “OK” after the note. Upon hearing the details of the situation, I did not pursue the issue. I pushed for a 3 person crew so that I could personally assist with the job and still accomplish other business-related work that we had scheduled for that same day. Though the 3 person rate is higher than the 2 person rate, the job goes faster, so there are fewer billable hours. For some moves, the final bill is slightly higher, and for some, the final bill is slightly lower with a larger crew. It is always hard to say which way it will make the bill fluctuate (higher or lower) when deciding whether or not to use a larger crew. Because the customer would not agree to a 3 person team, I had to handle our other task that day in parallel, while my crew worked this moving job without me. I have a good team, and I trust them to work without me, when necessary, although I do enjoy being involved in as many moves as I can be. My 2-man crew completely filled our large, 26' moving truck during this move (floor to ceiling, front to back), which was a huge surprise to me. The details of the move had been described to me over email to consist of a mattress, washer, dryer, refrigerator, shelving, and boxes, coming out of a 936 (nine-hundred thirty-six) square foot home. It is very, very, VERY rare that such a small home has that many boxes, or even comes close to filling the truck, even with all the furniture. In this case, our truck was almost completely full of boxes. Looking at the the fact that the truck was 99% full, and accounting for drive time, I feel that the crew's speed was adequate and on-par with my expectations for that volume and type of cargo. The job took around 6 hours, and ~1.5 of those hours were for drive time. Their bill was $467, and the customer also provided the crew with a $60 tip to split between them. I am grateful for this Angie's List member's business, and I am sorry that we did not meet her expectations. My advice to this member is that for future moves, be aware that you DO have a high volume of items, and convey that to the next company that you select to move you.

They arrived a few minutes earlier than the scheduled time, reviewed what needed to be done and the cost, and started working. Andrew and two men who worked with him were fantastic. I hired them because of Angie's List reviews, and everything that had been said about them was true. They could not have been better in any respect.

Mustard Seed showed up and immediately went to work. They packed everything beautifully and put everything exactly where it needed to be. Great job.
Description of Work: We have never used a moving company before, we did it all ourselves, but I have to say that I will most definitely use Mustard Seed again when the time comes. They were very professional, understanding (we did not have everything ready for them) and patient. They wrapped everything so there was no chance of scratches or breakage. They put everything exactly where we wanted it and put items back together perfectly. Well done guys. We even had a "Martha Stewart" want to be who helped to stage my daughters bedroom. Keep up the good work.

We had a small move from a storage unit to our house and they handled the move in very professional and courteous manner. They showed up to the storage unit on time and throughly reviewed the paperwork with me before starting. Most of the furniture was very old and they took the the time and care to properly protect and move the furniture. I highly recommend Mustard Seed Moving.

Excellent from start to finish.
Description of Work: I highly recommend Mustard Seed Moving; very professional, courteous, caring and efficient. I used another company the prior year for the same quantity of items, it took the longer and not done as well and they charged me more. Andrew is the owner and had to juggle his schedule to help me out and went out of the way to make sure it was done very well.

Response from Mustard Seed Moving Co
Thank you for taking the time to review our performance, and for selecting Mustard Seed Moving for your move! I also appreciate you having the confidence in us to work so independently at your old home and at your storage facility while you handled the closing process on your new home. I enjoy when customers offer us that kind of independence and trust, and I am glad that you feel that we handled the move with 100% satisfaction.

I called on Wed 9/5 and got a voice mail box. However, the mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. Not a good sign of a well run business. However, I was still willing to try. So I sent a message on Angie's List with my contact info to call me. I finally got a call back on Sun 9/9 around 8pm. I let the caller know that I had already acquired another mover. I used A Lot for Less who did a great job at a fair price.
Description of Work: I didn't actually use them to move. They were too slow in responding.

Response from Mustard Seed Moving Co
All true. We are very busy and we often cannot take on any more work. This Angie's List Member took the right steps to contact us, but was trying to schedule her move in a short time-frame that was not compatible with our schedule. Her initial email did not mention a time-frame, so when she was contacted 4 days later, she had either already moved or scheduled another mover. By the time of the review written 6 days later, she had already moved. Most of our customers book 2 to 3 weeks in advance. If you encounter a full voice mailbox, or a slow response from us, please have patience. We value each of our calls and every person who takes an interest in using us, but our priority is to properly tend to our family and our booked customers first.
