They were very responsive, but the price was higher than what I wanted to spend at the time. They were thorough in the explanation, and it turned out to be a bigger job than I initial thought. They were very knowledgable and they did do a good job

Very Good. The job came out better than we expected. I will be using them again for future projects.
Description of Work: We just completed a remodel project and decided to Stucco the Exterior as to compliment the exterior. We first started with a small company, unfortunately I made the mistake of being in a hurry and thought anybody could do stucco. I was wrong. The first company really did a sub standard job to say the least. The stucco was cracking already within the 2nd day of completion. I decided to enroll with Angies list so I can get other customer reviews. The job was corrected from those hack artists to real art. Masonry Arts is a good description for real Stucco work. Their work surpassed my expectations. These guys are really good.

The mortar was missing from several bricked areas of my house and the previous owners had repointed the bricks on the front facade using a different color mortar to the rest of the house. I called Bob from Masonry Arts to come out and give me a free estimate for the work. He was very accessible and prompt. I also felt his estimate was fair and included repointing the areas of missing mortar, as well as adding new mortar on the front facade, so that it matched the mortar on the rest of the house. He was able to start work on the house very soon after the estimate and the work was completed in a timely and professional manner. The results are excellent - it has really lifted and improved the appearance of the front of the house. Thanks Bob!

Thanks! Great person & project to work with! I want to point out that this is a very historic home - over 100 years old. It had some challenging areas to renovate, but all went very well & we were able to match the old mortar colors perfectly. I am so glad people like the member take the time & money to restore & protect history as it deserves!!

Great AngiesList members to work with! I really like their selection of stone on the entire house & walls. This project was an additional, over 6' tall x over 60' long "L" shaped privacy wall, with stone covering block on our concrete & rebar footing. It is a 2" thin cut Lueders ledgestone that looks like the side view of 2" thick rough Travertine tile. It was a bit difficult to keep all in a straight line & tightly pushed together as was a drystacked look, but came out great. It is now my favorite stone as the ledgestone look is very classy & artistic. It looks more like a sculpture than a wall (as well as their entire very modern style home)! We also installed a thick polished smooth Leuders stone top cap on the entire wall. Thanks again!!

Overall it went well. Bob is a friendly guy that knows his work. He was pretty busy when I worked with him, but he was able to squeeze me in to do a job when another contractor left me with an unfinished project. He was helpful and gave me a few different options for repairing the wall, including a more expensive option that would have been more perfect, or a value-engineered option that worked for me for this job. (If I didn't already have an unfinished wall there, it might have been different, but I just wanted it finished). He had a good crew with enough guys to finish the work quickly, and he came back a few days later to check on how the concrete was curing, and to see if it needed any touchups. In terms of design, this was a pretty simple job. Based on his pictures, it seems like he really shines on more complex masonry jobs, limestone walls, old brick and mortar restoration, etc., but for my little wall he did great.

The quality of work performed was excellent; very pleased with the end result! Received 3 estimates. Bob Abel was very professional and personable. During the estimate he was detailed and thorough about the scope of work to be done. Although his estimate was higher than the other 2 estimates, his overall attitude and attention to detail said alot. In the construction industry things can happen on other jobs they have no control over that affect the schedule they plan for their work day (Murphy,s Law). Bob was very thoughtful and responsive to keep me informed. Masonry Arts was definitely the right choice. They did an excellent job, including cleanup. I would highly recommend this company, and will hire them again in the future.

We purposefully delayed providing an evaluation of the Masonry Art's work on Angie's List so that we could determine if the masonry work done would last in both the solidness of the new mortar and in the retention of the new mortar's color. After almost 5 months after the work was completed there are absolutely no indications of mortar deterioration or cracks in any of the repaired areas, and the masonry color remains the same as it did in April when the work was completed - it's almost impossible to distinguish the repaired mortar areas from the non-repaired areas as a result of the excellent matching of the mortar color and the meticulous work by Masonry Arts.
Description of Work: We had several cracks in the masonry of our external brick siding, some of which were getting large and long enough to threaten the retention of some of the bricks on the outside wall, especially above the double garage door. We had the same problem in 2003 and used another contractor to remove and re-mortar the areas where the mortar was cracking or reducing in size. That fix lasted several years, but the cracks returned in the previously repaired spots as well as new ones (our home is about 12 years old, solid foundation, located in the rock-based Stone Oak area). Using Angie's List and the BBB, we selected Masonry Arts to provide a cost estimate and to explain how they would repair the problem mortar areas. Of equal importance was the desire to have the color of the new mortar match as best as possible the existing mortar. As a result of their cost and work quote, we hired Masonry Arts for the repair work. Due to their existing workload, our job was scheduled for several weeks after we received the initial quote. When the contractor and his helper arrived, they immediately reverified all of the areas needing repair, meticulously mixed the repair mortar to match the existing mortar [a virtual exact match!], began removing crumbling mortar where necessary, and replaced the crumbling mortar with new mortar or patched minor cracks with a new mortar overlay. The job took over 6 hours to complete.

Glad to see that they are pleased & since April, with this severe drought, the repairs are still holding due to expansion/contraction. Am surprised at the B for price as that was a VERY cheap price as there where many cracks & we had several men doing it for for many hours. Also, I don't recall, but I've never had to make a client wait 3 weeks to get to their work. I remember had some rain periods back then in April though. Great people to work with & hope it holds up through the drought.

Everything went as planned. They guys showed up in the morning to prepare for the concrete (with the pebbles), and worked until the pour was over. No problems, no issues.
Description of Work: In my household I have 3 cars and a very narrow driveway. It was difficult to park next to another car and try to get out without banging into the car next to it. I need a wider driveway! I called Bob Able (again, I loved his work the first time!) and he came out to give me an estimate for making the driveway at least 3 feet wider. He gave me a great price and was able to start work on my schedule. Bob came over the day before the pour and marked out the size of the driveway. Then I asked "how about this" and "what about this"? He was great working with me as usual. He took my ideas and incorporated them into the new addition. The day of the pour went very well, and there were no problems. My driveway is so beautiful!!!

Bob Abel is a very personable owner. He is easy to talk with and was knowledgeable as he walked around the house and looked inside at our fireplace and determined how much time the job would take to determine an estimate. He also gave us some advice about how to fix the small cracks ourselves. Bob has his own "Pablo Picasso" who matched the texture and design of the stucco perfectly. When his employee repaired the fireplace, he matched the grout and you cannot tell the crack every existed. Removing the black plastic and smoothing the foundation so that everything matched was a tough job and involved the employee being on his knees a lot. It took him three days to complete dressing the foundation. He blended a variety of cement and bonding agents to make the foundation look like it was done correctly the first time. We now have placed dirt around the house and can do landscaping without worrying about hiding parts of the foundation. Bob's only fault is that he tends to over-extend himself by possibly taking on more work than he can accomplish during the day. He works into the evening and is out working again early in the morning. That affected our job because he had to pull a member of his crew from another job to get ours done in the timeframe we needed it done. He did fulfill his promises to us, which we appreciated.
Description of Work: Due to undergoing foundation repair, we had large and small cracks on the outside of our limestone and stucco home. The foundation needed to be dressed with masonry where the soil had settled around the entire house. Due to water leaks and a truck hitting the house, we needed several areas of the stucco repaired. The inside of our fireplace also had suffered a long crack through the grout.

Great AngiesList members to work with! We were VERY busy that month, with customers starting vacations & ready to do home improvements...ALL came in & wanting work to start at the same time. But we did them all, with hard work & long hours in the heat, no problem. However, I didn't have to pull a worker from another crew to finish this on time...they were the same as planned. We just got a one day late start as were still finishing another big job that took longer than thought, but we showed up & stayed there every day punctually for many days till finished, as was a very big job. Hope to work with them again in the future = great people! Thanks.

It went well. his stucco man was timely and everything was "Plumb Level and Square" He took great patience to insure the job was perfect. The project took 5 days and Bob comes to the job site each day to check on everything. Bob also calls daily to check in with you to make sure you are satisfied. I would highly recommend his Company for any Masonary, Stone works.
Description of Work: Bob Abel owner of Masonary Arts did a stellar job! He is very passionate about his work. He was able to formulate a plan to finish a outdoor fireplace that was left un done from concept to finish. Another great Angies'List member to work with! She had a large outdoor fireplace started by another company/worker & they never finished it. We came in to re-evaluate it & complete it for her. She is very artistic & we all came up with a solution on how to finish it correctly...looks great now! She knows how to do faux finishing paint details & is going to decorate the mantle herself. She had done faux work on various areas of her house that looks beautiful. I will hire her if I need faux painting! Thanks!

Am surprised at the "B" rating. This was a 2 story tall expansion joint on the house where the full sun hits. It had been previously filled with silicon several times by the builder & others later with an ugly mess & color. We covered it with a better mortar color to fill & cosmetically cover it. Nothing more can be done by anyone or any product = the house is slighty sinking & spltiting down the very tall middle. Especially with this severe drought, I told him to water the slab. That side of the house is always in direct full sun & is contracting & expanding daily. We even rushed back there when he called & touched up a SMALL HAIRLINE crack that formed (what he is referring to for the "B") the 2nd time for free.

Bob came out and did an estimate without anyone needing to be at the house. He called back promptly to advise me of all the work that needed to be done. I chose to hire him based on the Angie's list reviews and his ability to show up and give a fair quote. When he called back he did advise me that he a lot of jobs scheduled ahead of mine. He managed to squeeze our job in on a weekend to make sure our house was ready to sale. The work performed was done very methodically and with great care and detail. We had several cracks in the mortar and a brick fence repair. You cannot even tell where he did the work as it matched the original house mortar. He tested and tried a few before he settled on the one he used. He even went over a place where someone else had done work that didn't match to make sure it was all the same. I would not hesitate to use him again. I took his business cards to give to my friends. Nice job and nice person. He takes pride in his work and it shows.

Bob did what he said he would, when he said he would do it (one day to cut wall down; one day to finish nicely). Bob is a very pleasant man to work with.
Description of Work: I had a 41 year old privacy wall (very tall, arched) around the front entrance of my home. It was about to fall down at the tall arch. Bob Abel cut it down to about 30 inches tall and restored the mortar; I now have a lovely "garden wall."

Bob showed up when he said he would, but please remember he is very busy since he has a great rating on Angie's list. He had the frame work for the concrete done on the day he set up to be there (which was a big job). The concrete was poured two days later ( we lost a day because of rain) and all was finished on time and on budget!
Description of Work: Bob is an extremely likable person and he works very hard to do exactly what it is that you want. That being said, I called many companies to help me with a terrible leaking problem from my front windows. The job was to small or to difficult for others companies to deal with. I called Bob, he looked at the cracks in the front of the house, and fixed them, in no time! While he was here he fixed other cracks and problems for me, he was so helpful! I liked Bob's work so much, I aked him to help me design a backyard patio andd a walkway along the house, The job turned out even more beautiful than I hoped! The patio was large and the sidewalk coming off of it was framed perefectly! Bob helped me choose a color for the concrete that was to be the patio. It was a perfect match by the pool and the brick work on the side of the house. Bob is a good honest man and I would very happy to work with him again!

Our first contact with Bob came after a walk in our neighborhood and noticing the 'Masonry Arts' decal on his vehicle. We immediately called him and he was over the next day to give us an estimate on updating the look of our fireplace. Bob is very knowledgable and was patient with us as we brainstormed through renovation ideas. Before we committed to any work, he performed a sample of the mortar application on the side of our fireplace. After we were satisfied with the results, we committed to the renovation. Javier performed the fireplace work over 1.5 days and did a full cleanup afterwards. The results were incredible...the updates brought the look of our living room out of the 70's and into the 21st century. Bob and Javier were immediately able to start the mortar repair on the outside of the house and worked over 3 days to complete the job. The job was not at all easy since there were so many repairs to be made as well as varying shades of grey throughout (which Bob and Javier were able to match.) Overall we feel Bob gave us a great price for the work performed, was kind and courteous throughout, and we would definitely recommend for any sort of masonry work.
Description of Work: Our home was built in 1979 and was in desperate need of a fireplace facelift with it's dark mortar and hard-edged rock style. Bob Abel helped us brainstorm through ideas that would help modernize the look of the fireplace, while staying cost-effective. Ultimately we decided to go with a refinishing of the mortar in a style called a 'smear.' A new application of mortar was added over the existing mortar and lightly 'smeared' across the rock. Bob also took a look at our exterior rock walls and cued us into some serious mortar issues. After finishing the fireplace, Bob and Javier went to work on some extensive mortar repair which included color matching in many different areas.

I read about Masonry Arts on Angie's List in 2010 and had the owner, Bob Abel, out to my home for an estimate at that time. We delayed the project for about a year, but when I called Bob for an updated estimate he remembered me and my project. He returned with his book of project photos so that my husband and I could get an idea of the appearance of the finished fireplace. He spent quite a bit of time with us discussing stone options. Bob called me with a revised estimate within a few days and we decided to go forward with the project. Demolition of the old fireplace took place around noon on a Tuesday. Bob's masonry crew covered my tile floor with plywood and drop cloths for protection, then proceeded to remove the old oak mantel and brick face. As Bob had warned me, it was a very dusty demolition, but his crew was finished and gone within two hours. I had asked them to return Thursday to lay the new stone since I had other contractors coming to handle other aspects of the project (that's another report!) As it turned out, they were not able to return until Saturday, but once they came back they lost no time getting the new stone fireplace installed. Bob was on site for both the demolition and most of the construction of the new fireplace, a service my husband and I appreciated. On his advice, we used Sienna limestone in a variety of sizes; we requested that they install two pieces as support corbels for the new mantel, which they did. His crew again protected our floors and left no debris on the street or anywhere on our property. There was more to our project than simply replacing the brick; the interior of the fireplace needed repair and we wanted to run electricity and cable inside the wall so that we could mount a TV above the fireplace. A general contractor gave me a bid to run the entire project, but her bid was quite vague and I was not comfortable doing business with her. I decided to act as my own general contractor and am very pleased with the outcome, thanks in large part to the quality of work that Masonry Arts did. We look forward to working with Bob again in the future.
Description of Work: Masonry Arts removed the old fireplace brick and mantel in our family room, picked up stone for the replacement fireplace, and built the new fireplace. Bob Abel, owner of Masonry Arts, also referred us to a cabinet maker for a replacement mantel. The project itself took about 5 days from start to finish, primarily due to weather delays. Bob and his crew were actually on site working on the project for a total of about 7 hours. They took down the old brick face in an hour! I was amazed that something that appeared so solid was so easily demolished. The new fireplace was built in less than 6 hours; the mortar was dry within a couple of days.

Small independent contractor company. Bob (owner) responded immediately to telephone request for estimate. Estimate was fair and accepted. Work scheduled within a week including easy interim contacts to discuss schedule. Bob and Javier arrived on time and ready to work. Both worked fast and with skill and precision. Easy to talk to about details and progress during the project. Willing to accept suggestions and requests. Completed the job in 6 hours of steady work to my complete satisfaction. Will use them again.

Our pool is surrounded by an 82 foot retaining wall. It had obviously been a DIY project by a prior owner and it was falling apart. Bob from Masonry Arts came out, gave a fair estimate and several options, and even recommended checking with a landscape company to see if they could do it with cheaper material. We liked his plan to build a real stone wall. He had his crew out a few days later - they finished the job a day early. All the crew members were polite, and they cleaned up after themselves. The wall is lovely.

I contacted Mr Bob Abel of Masonry Arts. From the very beginning of the conversation Mr. Abel was easy to talk to and was extremely knowledgeable. We met the next day and he surveyed the damage to mailbox and informed that my bricks were made from concrete. That they were extremely difficult to find but he remember seeing some in a yard in Bulverde. That he would check during the weekend and call me. True to his word he did call me on Saturday and informed that he had the brick and would rebuild my mailbox on Tuesday. That he would also take care of the issue of the cracked mortar between the brick and I would not be able to see the difference between the mortar that was repaired and the mortar that was not repaired. I have to say without reservation that his crew and him did a outstanding job on the mailbox. The mailbox is constructed and looks better that the original mailbox that was knocked down by the car. The mortar repair was excellent, I really couldn't tell where it started and ended, which is fantastic. I highly recommend this company to anybody that is looking to have masonry work to be done. Mr. Bob Abel keep me informed from the beginning of the project to the end of project. He delivers the kind of service that you pray that every service repair would deliver. OUTSTANDING COMPANY!!!!!

The overall work went on very well. They are very responsive and honest. They were very straight forward in doing work that had to be done. I would rate them high overall. I would use them in the future if needed.

They were fine but not excellent. They were punctual. They arrived when they said they would. I would probably use them in the future.
Description of Work: I used Masonry Arts to get an estimate three weeks ago. They quoted me over $10,000. I was looking to get the concrete sidewalk and stone work for flowerbed.

My bid was not over $10,000! She obviously has me confused with someone else...also, I was professional & worked hard giving her many ideas & optional prices, none near that price.

See my detailed comments in work description above. As I stated we couldn't be happier. Masonry Arts over delivered quality and service for the price and we would highly, highly recommend.
Description of Work: We had the typical small square cement back porch and have been wanting more for a long time so we could get out and enjoy our backyard. We looked a at decking, pavers and flagstone and after talking to a lot of people and doing research flagstone seemed perfect for our situation. Once that was determined, as usual I pulled up Angie's list and got the ball rolling. We talked to and received design ideas and bids from several companies. As you can image the range was wide. One company stood out head and shoulders above the rest and that is Masonry Arts. From the first time I talked to Bob at Masonry Art I couldn't have been happier. He was prompt, friendly and accommodating. When he arrived at the house, you could tell right away he knew what he was doing. It wasn't the typical glitz and glamour, used car salesman type pitch you find so frequently. He listened intently to what we wanted, asked good questions, made suggestions and explained every step of the process and how it works. Then once we were all on the same page we talked about a bid. Once we received the bid, which was very good and fair for all the work involved plus since Bob did such a good job of explaining it all you knew exactly what you were getting for the money, we accepted and moved forward. The very next day the crew showed up and started work. They like Bob were friendly, courteous and professional. This group was not just a group of workers they were artists taking great pride in what they do. Bob would stop by the house at each phase of the project to make sure everyone was on the same page and things were going as planned. He would then call me with constant updates. This meant there was never any guessing on our part and really increased our confidence in the whole process. Upon completion again Bob was there to walk through it all to make sure it was what we wanted and explained how we should care for and clean the patio to keep it looking beautiful. To wrap it up we couldn't be happier. To say the project and experience was beyond our expectation would be an understatement. Masonry Arts couldn't have been better. In a world were service and pride have mostly gone out the window it is great to see a company that over delivers quality and service for the price. We would highly, highly recommend them!!
