Before going with Masonry Arts, I had contacted several contractors. The first acted disinterested in my project, handed me a brochure and left. The second contractor never showed and gave me an estimate via email. I then contacted Bob Able via email and coordinated a time to meet. Bob met me when he said he would. He immediately started taking measurements and pictures. He took a real interest in my plans and project. I then asked him about my "dream" project of widening the driveway. He looked at that too and took notes and measured. Bob has a specific concrete crew he uses and would let me know on the estimate and scheduling. After a couple of days, Bob came back with an estimate and schedule. We agreed on the price and he explained exactly what they would be doing. I signed the contract and paid 50% up front. He told me they would be starting early on Tuesday. They arrived at 7am. A crew of 7 came in and when straight to work. They went at it hard in the front and backyard until 7pm. I had to leave my father-n-law, in charge since I had to go to work. The project was in his very capable hands and he kept a watchful eye on things. They were all very polite and cleaned up well after themselves. I was very impressed with work they performed that day. They next day the concrete crew came in and started pouring. They had to wheelbarrow the concrete to the back of the house. It was very laborious, but they handled it very well. They were non-stop. I was floored by the work done. When I came home, my father-n-law gave me a detailed report. I was in awe of the amazing work done. The patio and driveway were incredible looking. The following day they came back and finished smoothing the sides of the patio and cleaned up. Everyday, Bob came by to check on the work being done. He was also happy with their work and progress. I told Bob i never happier to hand over money in my life. I would hire Masonry Arts back in a heartbeat. Thank You Bob. P.S Bob if I missed anything, it wasn't intentional. Once I figure out how to add pictures I will.
Description of Work: Bob Abel's crew poured an 18' X17' concrete patio in out backyard. They attached it to our existing foundation and used more rebar on the whole project than I think they used in our foundation. Because of limited access to the backyard, they had to wheelbarrow everything. I also had them widen out driveway by 5'. They also used rebar and tied it in our existing driveway.

Thank you so much for the kind report! I also enjoyed working with this Angie's List member. He was knowledgeable on concrete work, & had specific plans for the patio area. He knew exactly where he would be putting future roof supports, so that we could add deeper concrete beams & extra rebar. All went great & I was happy that this very good person was pleased. Thanks again!

Bob was timely, and his primary worker, Pablo, and his team were on time and did a great job. Pablo took pride in his work, mad extreme attention to detail, and did an overall great job. We wil be hiring them in the future to do more changes to our house.

Bob Abel and team did an excellent job with a really old flagstone patio. A lot of the grout was gone, and that still there was cracked. There were different colors in the grout as well. They repaired all the grout and matched colors as well as possible (which was really impossible) and now my patio looks like it is new - not 27+ years old. They were on time, and responsive even though they are very busy. I recommend them without reservation.

Great experience with Masonry Arts and Bob Abel the owner. First project was to create a flagstone walkway from back to front.Second project was to create a pad with left-over flagstone for my trash and recycle buckets. Third project was to create a patio off the new walkway. Extemely happy with all work.
Description of Work: A flagstone walkway was created from my back door around the house to my front driveway. Cracks in brick and foundation were repaired. Garden brick planter was repaired.

I would rate them high overall. They were extraordinarily professional. The owner himself came to do the estimate. I was told exactly what he would do. He had the best crew. When he finished the work we could not make out which the original brick wall was and which was the replacement one. He did such a fine job. The work they did was of exceptional quality with exceptional workmanship. They were exceptionally professional. The owner gives the estimates. I won’t have any problem recommending them to anybody. It was a great experience. I was very impressed. Everybody that came was knowledgeable. I was not rushed through. They were honest and not pushy. They were very respectful and above the board.
Description of Work: I used Masonry Arts with the other contractors I used. I used them to repair the walls. They had to take down a brick wall. They had to do some repair work and reinstall a brick wall.

A overall great experience. Thank you Bob Abel
Description of Work: Bob Abel and his crew showed up early and had the job done that day. The quality and workmanship was superior. The men were friendly and polite. They hauled away all the old concrete and cleaned up the yard. The price was more than I wanted to spend but a very fair price for the quality of work. The surface of the work was a great match for the existing sidewalk. Rebar was used instead of wire mesh and anchored into the house and existing walk. It was a very smooth and a nice easy ramp to the house. They even moved a small piece of the old sidewalk over to my work shed and set it in place for a much needed walkway, saving me some money. I am a very happy customer. Bill Hanzal, Kirby Texas

Thank you sir....another great & knowledgeable person to have had the pleasure of working with! All went well & as far as price, I keep my profit to the bare minimum...everything is expensive nowadays, & more time consuming with traffic to go anywhere. With concrete, or anything in this world, you get what you pay for - if you're lucky, hehe. We always add the extra quality & service, as best can. Thanks!

Called the owner out for an estimate. He spent quality time going over requirements, and said quote would come in next week. After waiting that timeframe, I sent a message asking for feedback on the estimate. I've never received any feedback on the estimate. This was not an easy job, so my guess is with his current workload he can pick and choose his assignments. Reading these reviews, I'm sure they do good work. But I just can't give a good grade if they're not even going to provide an estimate.

So sorry, but my mother had just passed away, & was bombarded with all that estate things to do, & lot of work at the same time. Had been working 18 hrs. per day, so this estimate & probably 1-2 others got forgotten in the shuffle. I don't recall receiving the follow-up reminder message. Regardless, I apologize as am still playing catch up.

All work was performed in the equivalent of one work day. I especially appreciated that Bob made sure our project was finished before he sent his crew to work on another project. We talked over alternative solutions to accomplish our objectives and Bob offered ideas that would save us money without compromise. (I think this is especially important if you are seeking a second opinion or want to go with someone you can trust without seeking multiple bids. Lots of contractors will suggest the most extensive and expensive of alternatives.) Bob personally repaired the damaged curb, matching colors so expertly, that you can only tell it was repaired by looking closely at it in strong light. He managed his crew well, not accepting some initial leveling paver leveling work that was done. He made sure they were adequately supervised during the actual work, and returned after it was completed to make sure it was done right. He kept the job site clean and left it clean at the end of the project. I am an architect, so all of the above observations are about issues important to me.
Description of Work: One of the reason I contacted Masonry Arts is they seemed to be willing to do small and unusual masonry-related projects. Ours included: - Backfilling a part of our house foundation which was undermined by roof and surface stormwater, - Installing a new 4" drain pipe to improve stormwater drainage - Resetting sunken brick pavers in multiple locations, - Repairing a damaged concrete curb.

Masonry Arts did a fantastic job. We called about a very minor chip in our Stucco. Mr. Abel was prompt in returning our phone calls and setting an appointment time that worked for both of us. Our repair was minor and he did it on the spot. He also pointed out something I had not seen- and took care of it as well. Overall top notch company with great service and craftsmanship! Highly recommend them!

Owner Bob Abel and mason Javier came out to repair the parge coat on the south-side of our slab foundation, which had some deterioration due to the drought and extreme heat last summer, and some small cracks and areas of mortar deterioration on our brick veneer. We had to wait several days for Bob and Javier to come, but I expected this since they are a busy company due to their excellent reputation and demand for their services. The repairs are absolutely amazing. You can't discern the new mortar from the original. Javier worked quickly and professionally cleaning everything up before he left. You would not even know he had been at our house. Bob was incredibly personable and concerned about the quality of their work. Price was great; work was great; I'm a very happy customer!

This was my third estimate and the best; price-wise and pride in work. I am still on the fence about what I really want to do with this deck, and decided to wait. Bob is a visionary and will help putting ideas into perspective. During the appointment he took his time walking around and envisioning what I wanted from different points, made suggestions, took notes and measurements. He had a huge portfolio of the work he represents - it's worth a look.

He was prompt, answered our questions and appeared to know what he was doing. He was also very flustered and anxious (family issues). I am still waiting on the written estimate, though he got our verbal estimate back to us promptly. I want estimates in writing.
Description of Work: I am obtaining estimates on sidewalks and front porch pad. He was prompt in returning phone calls, prompt in his appointment, and knowlegable and answered my questions. Again, I am not able to get a written estimate despite asking. UPDATE: I told him repeatedly that I wanted a written estimate. Yes he was prompt. Yes he was nice. I'm asking for a written estimate. How can i get him my email address? I don't appreciate his "whatever" attitude though. It seems rude and dismissive.

What? I don't understand this report as isn't completely correct. Admitting I was very prompt, & responsive, etc,. but she put"B"? I seemed "anxious" because I had 8 appointments that day while finishing 4 jobs & raced over there in traffic to not be late. When I called back with her bid, she said she was getting many quotes, but never said to put it in writing after giving price. In fact, I don't even have her email address. Oh well. On concrete prices, you get what you pay for, usually.

Bob Abel, the owner, and his mason, Javier, arrived on time and did the job as promised. It took 2.5 days to complete it. Javier worked steadily and cleaned up any mess. When the job was finished everything was neat and tidy and the house looked great. I am extremely pleased with their work.
Description of Work: The exterior walls of my house are of stone on the lower half and brick on the upper half. At some point in the past someone remortared a great deal of the stone with a very dark mortar that did not match the original, and overlapped onto the stones as well as between them. Masonry Arts removed all of this mortar and replaced it with mortar that matched the original. They also repaired an area where there was a large gap between the bricks, and filled in a number of smaller gaps.

Bob gave me an estimate to repair the cracks and put a smooth finish on the exposed, ugly, foundation. We agreed on a price and a start date. Bob called several days in advance to confirm before the start date and then started the job on time. Before they started, Bob wrote a contract that we both agree to and signed. The workers were quiet and busy. You wouldn't know they were there. The balcony area was the worst and Bob said he would try to repair it in the normal manner. When they started that area they discovered the first three courses of brick were all loose. Bob and his crew removed all three courses and relaid them properly. That was not in the estimate but Bob stayed with his original price. I was very happy with the the extra work and offered a modest bonus. Bob reluctantly accepted the bonus and said he would give it to his workers. In summery, the work was done correctly and in a timely, professional manner. The price was fair and the work was the highest quality. Bob stuck with his original price despite some extra work that could not be foreseen during the initial walk-around inspection. Bob and his employees were courteous and thoughtful. They called ahead each day to let us know they would be on the job. Everything was cleaned up nicely as they moved from one area to another and when the job was done they cleaned up everywhere they worked. The work exceeded my expectations and was done in a timely manner. I highly recommend Masonry Arts and plan to hire them again next year to replace my pool deck with flagstone.
Description of Work: Our exterior brick work was cracked everywhere due to the house settling and then being leveled. In addition, some of the rough foundation was exposed in the patio area when the house was lifted. Masonry Arts repaired "all" the cracks and put a smooth finish on the exposed foundation. The work was excellent, and the men doing the work could not have been nicer or more pleasant. After they finished, I saw Bob out in the yard, picking up any scraps of concrete. Bob Abel was the 2nd company from whom I received a quote for all my rock repairs. His price was very reasonable, considering all the problems we were having with our patio. He is such a nice man, and he seemed very knowledgeable regarding his business. He had one worker on our project at first. This worker did such a great job on the flagstone patio and house, we asked Bob to fix our stone wall. We were lucky he was able to fit us in, and 3 workers finished the wall. The mortar everywhere matched well and the site was cleaned up every day.
