In late 2015, I became a first-time house hunter. I had no idea what I was doing and was very much looking for someone to guide me through the process. The first time I spoke with Scott Small, I called the number on a ‘for sale’ sign on a renovated property near downtown San Antonio. I had been house hunting for a few weeks at that point and had made several calls to other realtors to ask them about different properties where I had seen their signs in the yard. The conversations were usually polite but brief. When it was clear that whichever property I was calling about was out of my price range, the conversation seemed to go from sales pitch to getting me off the phone as quickly as possible. I wanted these people to help me find a house, even if it wasn’t the one I was calling about! So when I was speaking with Scott, and I told him that the price on that particular property was out of my price range, I was already prepared for the canned goodbye to begin. Instead of the rehearsed hang up, Scott surprised me by beginning to tell me how excited he was about that particular property and that he would love to show it to me. I thought he must not have heard that I couldn’t afford it. When I repeated that it was out of my price range, he said that was totally fine, that we could start searching for my budget but that property was one that he was proud of and could give us some idea of what we were looking for. We went on to have a half hour conversation. I told him about what I did for a living, that i was searching for a home for my fiancee and myself, and that I wanted to be somewhat near downtown San Antonio. Scott told me about his past, his passion for historic homes and neighborhoods, and that he would be happy to help in anyway he could. After that conversation, I finally felt like someone was on my team to help me through this confusing process. Scott next set up a meeting at his office to review a couple dozen homes that he had already found based on our conversation about my wants and needs. He patiently walked through all sorts of variables such as: square footage, bedroom/bathrooms, schools, highways, HOAs, neighborhoods, potential property value, safety, commute time, remodeling, and monthly mortgage payments. He then walked me through his guarantees to me as my realtor even though I didn’t have to promise anything in return. He finally gave me a tutorial in finances, mortgages, and closing costs which I honestly had almost no clue about. He even gave me several different contacts that he had with mortgage brokers that I could speak with if I wanted to. By the end of our first face-to-face, I knew that Scott was going to help my fiancee and I find the perfect house. I then began getting around a dozen listings everyday based on the parameters that I gave Scott at our meeting. As properties popped up that piqued my interest, Scott was always quickly able to arrange a showing. At every house he was always very honest about what he thought of the property and never tried to sugarcoat anything. His favorite saying, ‘they’re trying to put lipstick on a pig,’ was heard more than once by my fiancee and myself. But that was exactly what any buyer wants -- Total honesty and genuineness. I knew Scott was not just trying to sell me A house, he wanted to sell me THE house. Scott even went so far to go to showings when my fiancee and I could not. He would call me from the property and give me a verbal walkthrough of the house and what he was seeing. Finally after several months of looking and getting outbid on a house, THE house came on the market. The property was listed late in the evening, and it was not until about 10 pm that I saw it pop up. Even though it was very late, I couldn’t help but text Scott to ask him about the property. Never bothered by bugging him at all hours of the night, Scott texted me that he would get us a showing the following day. True to his word, Scott reserved us the first showing on what was soon to be our first home. After the walkthrough, Scott and I were both impressed with the house and neighborhood. Scott explained to me the asking price and what he thought the actual value of the home was, as well as what sort of potential he thought the property and neighborhood had. He counseled me on what a good offer would be, and by the end of the day we had an offer into the seller. When it appeared that the seller was going to sit on our offer to see if anything else came along, Scott advocated for us and let the seller know that we wanted a decision as quickly as possible on whether our offer was accepted or rejected. A day after our offer was put in, we had a contract on the house. But this was new territory for me! By this time I sort of new about looking at properties and how to put an offer in, but I sure did not know what to do when my offer was actually accepted!!! Thankfully I had Scott to walk me through the process. Scott helped me to arrange an inspector to look at the property. When I told Scott that I would like to be there for the inspection, he said that was great because he always likes to be there for the inspection too. He helped me to make sure that my paperwork for my mortgage was in order and that we would be ready to close on time. He also routinely checked in with me to see if I had any questions or concerns as well as to give me any updates from the title company that he got. As it just so happened, by the time we found our house, my fiancee and I’s wedding was less than a month away. The seller and title company scheduled the closing date several days after our wedding day. When I asked Scott if it would be possible to close before our wedding, so we would not have to worry about it when we were putting the finishing touches on our big day, he said he would see what he could do. It was in this instance that Scott showed his true colors to me. He had a signed contract and his customers were getting the house they wanted, to many people it probably wouldn’t have mattered if their customers closed exactly when they wanted to. But Scott made sure that we closed before our wedding, and towards the last minute when I even needed one more day than I thought, Scott was able to move it up one more day for us. Working so hard to not only help us find a house, but then to close on it when it was best for us was one of the best wedding presents we got! And in true Scott style, after we closed, he gave us our first housewarming present. Overall, as you can tell, I truly enjoyed my experience with Scott and will certainly use him in the future for any housing needs I have. I have recommended him to anybody that I meet that says they’re looking for a house, and I encourage anyone to give him a call and see for yourself that he wants to help people find the home that is right for them. My wife and I love our house, and Scott helped us find it.

I have worked with Scott Scott on three real estate transactions within the last year. His help has been essential every time. He knows how to stay on track, keep a deal moving, and pays attention to every detail. All with a sense of humor and even-handed patience. Each deal had its difficulties -- but with Scott's experience, knowledge, and integrity, we were able to close the deals within contract performance dates with the best possible outcomes. I have recommended Scott to family and friends -- and, now what to share my experience with Angie's List members.

When I first moved to San Antonio I, by chance, found Mr. Small's number online and decided to give him a shot. Keep in mind I only had three days to find a rental home. My wife was back on the east coast close to giving birth, needless to say I didn't have much time to play around. I was hoping that Scott would help me with what I needed. Within two days, Scott found me an excellent rental. After being in San Antonio for almost a year my wife and I were ready to purchase a home and we thought about Scott again. Just as he had done the first time with our rental, he found us our dream home at a great price. In April Scott, a realtor with Keller Williams Realty Legacy, helped my wife and I purchase our first home. If you are looking for someone who is professional, patient, honest, knowledge about the San Antonio area, and a great negotiator then look him up. For three months my wife and I were looking for a home, a safe affordable place for our family to grow. We shot Scott an email explaining what we were looking for and within a matter of minutes he was sending us all the latest homes on the market. My wife and I shuffled through many of the homes and choose several to look at during the course of these 3 months. Any time we wanted a showing Scott was there on time with all the information about the home. When giving us information about the home it almost sounded like he had lived there, he did that much homework on the property before the showing. Once we found our dream home. Scott was very prompt with all the paper work, he helped us find a lender, an individual to do our home inspection, a carpet guy etc. From start to finish Scott was there for my wife and I. He really looked out for us. Closing on the house went smoothly and we had the keys in our hands by the end of that same day. I highly recommend Scott Small to anyone looking towards purchasing a home. You won't be disappointed.
