I chose Jackson Home Inspection largely due to the reviews here, particularly the negative review left by an angry seller who complained that Chris was too thorough, as if that's possible from a buyer's point of view. Chris was on time and extremely thorough. He provided a detailed, 40-page report with photos of every issue he found, no matter how minor, and even used a drone to take photos of the entire roof from multiple angles. While not every issue he documented was serious enough to have found its way into our repair request to the seller, there were a few issues that I'm glad were brought to my attention. It's very reassuring to have someone as detail-oriented as Chris go over the object of such a major purchase. I feel like I have the knowledge of the quirks of my new home that would usually take a few months to acquire, and it's nice to know that I'm not likely to have any real surprises while my family is settling in. If you want to know what's really up with that house you're in love with, call Chris. If you're about to sell a house and need to know what needs fixing, call Chris. Whatever it is, if it can be known via an inspection, Chris will make sure you know it.

The home inspection provided by Chris was exhaustive, and I mean exhausting as well! He spent over four hours performing the inspection, and since I was following him on every turn, it became quite a tiring but worthwhile experience. As we went through the house, he carefully explained what he was looking for, what he was finding, and gave me tips on preventive maintenance to avoid the issues in the future. He went through every last square foot of that house. His report was extremely detailed and had many, many pictures of the issues he found. I can understand why some of the folks on here are happy with him - they are almost exclusively sellers. But his inspection and report gives a buyer the most information possible about a house and whether to move forward or not. And while some sellers clearly think he is too picky and too detailed, as a buyer, there is no such thing as a report that is too picky or detailed - all of that stuff will cost money down the road. After we bought a house 18 months ago and the inspection was poorly done, I found numerous problems that weren't discovered and made the mistake of leaving during that inspection. It has cost of literally thousands of dollars correcting the issues. Mr. Jackson and his thorough process and report will insure we don't make that mistake again. BTW, even though his report was 36 pages and detailed, we are moving forward with the home purchase - he insured we had the information to be comfortable in moving forward. And the report will be my guide for working through some minor issues and preventing more costly issues in the future. I think Chris' price might be a little higher than what I am used to, but oh my gosh, it was so worth the money. I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

Chris was amazing! Had him inspect a home we had an accepted offer on, only to find lots of issues of major concern that would have potentially cost us thousands of dollars to fix. They were things that would not have been observable by someone who was not knowledgeable in this field. Did such a great job, we saved ourselves from a nightmare and hired him back to do an inspection on the house we now own. He was upfront, honest, and gave us the information in such a way that we could assign priority to what needed fixing right away versus later on. He spent 4+ hours with each inspection, and we truly felt like he inspected everything thoroughly. If you do not want a thorough inspection, you can find someone cheaper, but I would rather know I am making a worthwhile investment. I can understand the negative reviews from the sellers perspective because he is so thorough. He is extremely detail-oriented, which is much appreciated by the buyer! He was able to find all sorts of major issues that we would not have looked for (or had the tools to evaluate). He is expensive, but it is a price worth paying for peace of mind, especially for first-time home buyers such as ourselves.

This inspection company is capable of insulting the seller and capable of both buyer and seller not ever reaching an agreement. Never let them into your home if you have a choice. Tell your realtor, if you have one, that if the buyer is going to use this company, you think they should find another company . If the buyer does not have a realtor and tell you that Jackson Inspection Services is their choice, they may not be allowed in your home. Buyers think that this kind of inspection is great. What they don't realize is they could loose the house of their dreams in a flash. The buyer needs to find another company who is rated high but not this one. My small 2200 sq foot town home took him 4 - 5 plus hours to walk through. He noted things like handrails were loose when it was a screw loose, don't touch fireplace while in use because it could cause burns, notes that reflected Deficient (D) were cosmetic, references to items that made me the seller consider tearing up his 27 page report and refusing to sell the townhouse to this wonderful buyer. My attorney even commented on my not selling this house to this wonderful buyer due to this iinspector. It took so much money and time for me to just have plumbers, electricians, A/C companies, handymen to give me their proposals to fix his repair issues that these professionals even said the report was ridiculous. They commented that they had never seen such a report and many said nothing was wrong with many items on his list. In the end I paid for things that did not have to be done just to move this transaction along. The house belonged to my 94 year old father and I had the power of attorney so knowing that he would need this money from this sale and I had just lost wonderful tenants who where living there, forced me to just pay for all these so called needed repairs that I felt were unwarrantied in many cases. I considered hiring our own inspector to look at the Jackson Inspection report and then have the two inspectors reach an agreement .But I thought it through and knew that would never solve the problem. I could only imagine the difficulty of two inspectors reaching an agreement. It would take more money and more time. The buyer was someone who really wanted this house. I in the end had to think of her and understand that her needs and wants were important enough to me and I should just pay for these things and move on. Yes, buyers may love this company, but buyers have a good chance of loosing the house due to this kind of report. Luckily my buyer was someone who I respected and knew how important it was for her to buy this house. I put her needs and money issues over my rage and disbelief of such a report. I am happy I did and have no regrets because this was the right thing to do for her. Sellers and buyers BEWARE ....don't use this company if you can avoid it. We all know selling and buying is so emotional for all, so when a company like Jackson Home Inspection is a part of the transaction, it really makes the transaction even more emotional and sometimes ends in tradegy for all. Luckily this one did not because I knew the buyer and she was more important. Her needs and wants were more important than money. But how many sellers know their buyers this well and would say this?
Description of Work: This inspector was hired by the buyer of my townhouse. I had never heard of them. The townhouse transaction was done without a realtor and my buyer used Jackson Inspection Services. The inspector went out of his way to find things that would make him look important and thorough but at the same time he did tremendous damage to the transaction. His notes and minor remarks and detail of things that were so insignificant almost made me the seller tear up his inspection report and therefore lose the buyer and sell it to someone else. I had my tenants who were living there move out so this buyer could buy this home. I did everything in my power to help this buyer with her timing needs to move in and sell this house to her since it was the one she really wanted. I knew her personally and really wanted to help her.

Chris did a very thorough job of inspecting the residence we intended to buy. His price was lower than the other inspectors I called, he showed up on time, and he spent 4 hours thoroughly inspecting the 1700 square-foot, one-level 1970s home. He then provided us with a well-organized and easy-to-follow 38 page report with details and images on everything from a sliding door sticking to the AC unit not being properly insulated. I would definitely use him again!

He was excellent and did a fantastic job. He was very thorough and did not rush through the inspection. He explained all the problems he had found and what could be done to correct them. He also provided a detailed colored picture report of everything he found within a day of his inspection. I would definitely recommend him. The house was built in 2013, not 2004 as shown in the review.

Home was a new home. Inspector stated at inspection that he hated new homes. Inspection report showed his bias. Inspector discusses the importance of safety, but failed to inspect the smoke detectors. The reasoning given on his report for not inspecting the smoke detectors is that the ceilings were too high. This was a home with only 9 foot ceilings.

Chris showed up little early and got started before I arrived. He was very knowledgeable and let me follow him around answering my questions as we went along. The house had numerous issues that he alerted me to which actually caused us to walk away from the purchase. He took lots of pictures and and gave us a thorough report. I am thankful that we were able to walk away from a bad situation and part of that thanks goes to Chris.

Outstanding! Extremely thorough inspection and detailed report. The report included pictures of each item to include an explanation of the issue involved. During the inspection Chris described what he was looking for and whether or not the item met requirements. If not, he told me how to correct the issue. He also provided some additional hints on what may/may not be appealing to potential homebuyers. What a class act. I HIGHLY recommend his services.

Chris Jackson was a fantastic person to work with. He was very thorough and professional, and offered a great deal of wonderful advice for a new homeowner. Each small item he came across, he offered a tip for an efficient fix and how to prevent it from happening again. He was very personable as well, and offered some friendly conversation as he worked. He took a multitude of pictures, and all images that showed potential problem areas appeared on the final report. Chris was also available to answer any questions I had about the final report, and encouraged me to keep his name for any time in the future if I needed some advice down the road. All in all, very pleased.

We've used Chris Jackson 3 times now to conduct the inspection of homes under consideration/contract for buying. In each of these inspections (2002, 2003, 2011), he has performed extremely detailed investigations into each of the home's major components and systems. During the inspection he captures the visual status of each component on digital film, and his final report includes not only understandable and detailed explanations for each component, but also a digital photo of that component (for example, a finding in the 2011 inspection was "AC coils are very dirty" as part of the HVAC inspection, and was accompanied by a photo of the coil which clearly shows dirt and rust specks on the coil). In addition to the extensive inspection of all of a home's components, Chris explains functions and hints to the accompanying buyer, a service that is most important for a first-time or inexperienced home buyer. The 2011 inspection took 4 hours to complete, and the 29-page final report was delivered as an e-mail attachment the very next morning. Mr. Jackson's thoroughness, extremely vast knowledge of house structures and components, and ability to explain items in understandable terms have made us repeat customers of his inspection service, and will remain so in the future.
Description of Work: Performed complete home inspection for the buyer of a single family house under contract for purchase. Inspection included all visible and accessible components and systems, including structural (roof, foundation, exterior walls, ceilings & floors, doors, windows, porches), electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and appliances. Final digital report includes details of each component/system, accompanied by digital photos of each item inspected.
