It cost me $140 to have the rebuilt column installed in the truck, just a labor charge and probably pretty good considering it has to be put thru the firewall of the truck and all the wiring changed as well as the steering wheel. However, once installed by a professional mechanic it was pretty much a nice looking disaster. On the old column the only real problem was that it was hard to start the truck because the key switch was out of line, took two hands. On the new column it now only takes one hand to start the truck but the windshield wipers now run all the time in fast mode. Apparently he did not restore that part. And it is not the wiper motor as Henry seems to think, the switch in the column controls the on/off and speed. Also, the turn signals now work as they did before but now when you return the steering wheel to the center the turn signals are no longer canceled automatically. You have to manually turn them off. Fortunately these are the only accessories on the column, nothing else to mess up (haven't checked the speed control). I have contacted Henry via email thru ebay and all he says is to return the column and he will return the purchase price, the old ebay response. Problem is it would cost me another $140 to have the column removed and $30 to ship it back, good ole Henry does not seem to realizes the associated costs he causes people when he produces poor work and then sells it to unsuspecting people. This is not an option.
Description of Work: About two months ago when I went out to start the truck, the bottom of the steering column literially fell off, busted in two pieces. This left the column innerds exposed and made it very very difficult to start the truck. I searched the web for a replacement column after finding that it would cost around $800 to have it repaired by the Chevy dealer. I found, located on ebay, this Henry's Locksmith fella who apparently takes old steering columns and restores them to what he considers working condition. Because his price was only $230 and there was no need to return the old core I gave it a shot and called him. I asked if he wanted me to order it thru ebay as that is where I found the item listed, he said to not bother. I verified the application and gave him my credit card. To his favor, he only waited two days to ship and it got here in pretty good order and in a good package. There's where the good ended.
