About us

With over 20 years of experience in the industry, our management and owners came together in 2009 to create a dynamic company dedicated to customer satisfaction. As industry pros, they had seen too many corners cut and customer service left by the wayside, and were determined to create a company that understood the value of quality, service, environmental awareness and professional accountability. Now, Green Home Improvements offers its customers a company that looks more at the needs of the customer than the bottom line for the company, and recognizes that the decisions we make at home also impact the world around us. We offer free energy analysis consultations and helpful tips to lower utility costs, increase comfort, and help ensure the protection of our environment for generations to come. Located in San Antonio, Texas, we serve the San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi and Killeen areas. Active in the community, Green Home Improvements has participated in charity drives such as the Family Services Association holiday gift drive, and environmental events like Fiesta Earth Day. We are a member of the Better Business Bureau, National Association of Home Builders, Texas Association of Builders, Greater San Antonio Builder's Association, Build San Antonio Green, and San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The provider is calling from a 210-558-1807 number to try to sell me some type of energy efficient product. They call saying it is GHI and that they got my name from a list of new home buyers. My problem is that they call way to much and have not removed me from their call list after multiple request. The best way to describe their calls is like a crazy ex stalking you and you ask them to delete your number and they wont.

Overall the quality is exceptional. We purchased the most energy efficient windows they had and noticed a drop in electric bill and AC use. I gave a "B' on price because, though the price was reasonable, I think they would have lowered the price if I haggled more. (They did not give me their BEST price, just a good price) Overall install was without issue and fast. The windows look fine and fit well. Update 4 Nov 2013 I had GHI over again to bid other windows... The bid was about $1k per window. I tried to talk them down but the would have any of it even with me being a repeat customer. now you know
Description of Work: GHI installed 2 large windows and 1 small one

The team arrived on time and began their work on the attic with the heat shield radiant barrier. This took the entire day culminating with the cutting of the roof vent and installing the vent cover. Team returned the following to day to complete the attic installation of the radiant barrier and applied the additional insulation. The team was very responsive to questions that we had about the materials and their application. They were very professional in their responses and did not loiter or "kill" time. Their breaks from the heat were in line with the overview of the process as explained by the company rep that created the estimate. Overall we are very pleased with this company and will probably consider them for our future window project.
Description of Work: Installed Heat Shield Radiant Barrier covering the entire attic; created/completed a roof vent; installed addidtional insulation to an R21.

Overall we would never hire GHI again. We contracted with them to remodel our kitchen and master bath. It took Green Homes more than 3 months to completely remodel our kitchen when we were quoted a period of 6-8 weeks. We moved out so the work could be done more quickly and be away from the dust, however, our neighbors told us the contractor was rarely at our house working.I know this is true as I came to the house daily to see what work was being done or had been done since the day before. Having to work with Green Homes was so stressful that my husband had to take off several weeks from work to try to get our kitchen work done. Ultimately for health and money reasons we canceled the master bath remodeling. +/- 1. Cabinetry - excellent workmanship, later we discovered the cabinets seem to only have 1 or 2 layers of stain and sealer as they scratch very easily. 2. Carpenter - Excellent and fast, made sure all surfaces were level, (he put in the custom made cabinets), moulding looks excellent, made sure he did not cut any extra wood out of our ceiling than was absolutely necessary. He was good at thinking ahead. 3. Painting - well done, but left spots of green paint on cabinets and floors that was not cleaned up completely. 4. Engineered Wood Flooring - overall installation was very good, the concrete base floor was sanded to remove prior cement from floor tile that was removed. There were a couple of very small places where the flooring did not quite meet one wall area. I fixed this after the job was completed by using wood putty. 5. Granite countertops and island top - this was a problem area. Green Homes said the granite was dropped and delivery would be delayed. I question the quality of the granite or the sanding and sealing done on the granite placed on the window ledges. To me it looked rough on the farthest out areas with hazy patches that looked like dust. On the countertops some sections of the granite have a pinkish tone which was not in the sample we saw. The granite for the island was beautiful with the coloring and finish we had expected for all the countertops and window ledges. 6. Installation of sink & faucets - this was problematic for some reason. 7. Measurements - measurements taken for the cabinets were wrong, so some cabinet sizes were incorrect. Also no space allowances were made for opening cabinets located near walls. The onsite foreman was very good at fixing a variety of problems. The cabinet that was made for our combination microwave and oven unit was so poorly measured that once on site, the cabinet was approx. 4 inches too wide plus another 10-12 inch drawer was built underneath it to put the microwave/oven unit at the proper usable height. When this microwave/oven sizing problem came up we finally called the company president to get the job completed. The president did come to our house. He offered to remove and redo some of the cabinetry that was made incorrectly, however, after dealing with the company for 3 months we were worn out and wanted Green Homes out of our house so we declined the offer on the two cabinets. No offer was made to replace the granite on the window ledges. In fact the president insisted that granite was fine. After I have cleaned, polished and buffed the window ledges, to me the granite remains to looking dusty or not well finished. There is more that could be written regarding Green Homes remodeling abilities suffice to say I have written enough for a person to make a decision regarding the use of Green Homes for indoor remodeling. As for us, we will not be using them again.

Even though they took responsibility, gave me a full refund and their insurance company paid for the damage that the worst roof leak caused to the interior of my home, the problems they caused kept my life in turmoil for six months and caused more than $4600 of damage to my home. The quality of workmanship of the employee who installed the solar attic fans was beyond terrible. First of all, he would not listen to me about which side of the house faced west and so he cut two big holes in my roof on the WRONG SIDE OF THE HOUSE! Then he installed the fans with nails instead of the screws provided in the kits, he cut three huge jagged holes in my roof, he installed the fans off center from the holes (impeding air flow), he faced the solar panels AWAY from the sun, and the rest of the installation was done so badly that he created three roof leaks, one of which caused major damage to the interior of my home. Additionally, the brand of fan installed, Master Flow Green Machine, was not weather proof. Despite manufacturer claims that no rain would get in in 110 mile per hour wind tests, I took photographs during an ordinary rain storm of rain splashing up under the hood, collecting and dripping down onto my attic insulation. Since I was already scheduled to get a new roof soon after the incident that exposed the major roof leak they had caused, I had all three fans removed, returned them to Green Home Improvements and had the roofing company patch the holes in the decking of my roof. I gave up on having solar fans at all and had the roofing company repair my roof and install a ridge vent instead for ventilation. Green Home Improvements was prompt in refunding my money, however it took about two months to get the settlement from their insurance company so I could get repairs done to the interior of my home. Regarding price: my roofer told me that Green Home had charged me double the normal price for solar fans and that what they had installed were older models. I give the Green Home Improvements company owner,Chris De La Garza, credit for taking full responsibility and refunding my money, but I would not wish what I went through on anybody.
Description of Work: The original agreement was for installation of two solar powered attic fans on my roof. However, when the installer put them on the WRONG side of the house (facing the North East instead of South West), the owner agreed to compensate me by installing a third fan on the South West side of my house. The owner had to make many trips to my house to see and fix problems such as the solar panels not being tilted toward the sun and the fans being improperly installed such that they had created THrEE ROOF LEAKS.

The installation was done in a day and a half. The first day, they started with the window on the front of the house and worked their way around. After each window was removed, they cleaned up the trim, installed the new window, leveled it so the opening/closing of the windows was smooth with no binding and then proceeded to seal the windows with insulation (if needed) and a water proof caulking. The following day, the sliding glass door was replaced. They carefully removed the old sliding glass door, installed the new one, leveled it so the door open/closed smoothly and then finished it off with the insulation (if needed) and water proof caulking. The installers cleaned up all the debris that had landed in the yard and they took the old windows with them. They did a beautiful job sealing the new windows. I was really impressed with the installation and if I had any issues or questions, Jon de la Garza was in constant contact with me to get them resolved or answered. My windows and sliding glass door fit and work great. I love the solid weight construction. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I had 10 windows and one sliding glass door replaced due to age and the fact they were cheap builder grade windows. The new windows were Argon e-gas, double hung, full screen with the bottom window opening into the interior of the house for easier cleaning.

It was nice that they were able to do a lot of things. It was like a one stop shop. We only had them do the painting stuff. We didn't like that they kept pulling out some guys who were working at our house to go out and do other peoples jobs. That kept making ours longer to finish. We wanted them to do a few other things, like if they missed a spot and we tell them, they would say we would get back to it later but haven't done it. It was mostly taken care of by the insurance company. It was under the home warranty. We just made it under the 10 year window. We had to pay just for the surveyor. They were only two rooms in the whole house that didn't need painting as there was no cracking and needed no repair. We had them do one hall which was not cracked to complement the hall and living room and we spent $250. It was like a junior remodel. We got to redo our house after 10 years so we thought it was okay. Our family room is 22 feet high and we knew we would need scaffolding if we ever wanted to paint it. They were here so we got it done through them. I would suggest that you pay them a part for the job that is to be done and wait till it is complete before you pay them. We had paid them half when it was half way through and we had given them our account number. So when they finished they took the remainder on their own though we still had some things for them to complete. I didn't like that and we had not authorized it. They told us that they thought we had told them to go ahead. We could have pursued it legally but we didn't. We knew that they did do the work but they were a few follow ups to take care of. We decided not to do business with them again. They did do the work but they were a few touch ups to be done which they didn't complete. They didn't come back. They were a lot of things missing. The spring things behind the doors that were missing form just about all the doors. I had to buy them and replace them by ourselves. In our family room which is 22 feet high we have a big picture window out there and there is a lot of paint of the window area. They cleaned it up but there is a white kind of thing. There is no way we can go up there. We can see a haze up there. They closed one of the vents up there. They left small things here and there. I think they were a little pricey but we went with them because they were the one stop shop. They could do everything. They were pretty much on time.
Description of Work: I used the service of Green Home Improvements to paint my house about a year ago. They taped the floors, fixed a crack and paining. They did some brick work outside as well.

We were contacted by a salesman who came by and after measureing the kitchen made a reasonal price offer if we agreed to put a sign in our yard. We asked to see a sample of the cabinets, as they do not yet have a showroom. When the salesman brought the sample (1/2 hour late for appointment) he stated that since they found a home in our zip code, he couldn't offer that price any longer, now it was $6,000 higher. The other "Show" house is our zipcode was more than 6 miles away in a completely different neighborhood so we asked him to check with the owner to see if we could have the original price back. Meanwhile we researched other bids and had one that came in significantly lower than the salesman's original price and we decided to go with the other company. The salesman was quite personable and we would probably request a bid from this company again for other work. You just have to be prepared for a slow response. I suspect that the company I decided to use has a much lower overhead and Green Home Improvements cannot offer a price that low. I felt badly for the salesman, but we had to go with the lowest bid and the most responsive company.

In early November I looked into a kitchen remodel. Green Home Improvements contacted me and I started working with them with the assumption that after Thanksgiving they would do a kitchen remodel for me. The company representative came to the house a couple of times and the we set up appointments to go and see Granite and tile. He called at the last minute and rescheduled. I then later found out that it wouldnt start till December because they had to wait till the loan came through before they would hand it over to the contractor. I called and spoke with the owner and he responded quickly by sending everyone out and getting times and dates set up. We set a date for the middle of December trusting that we would still have our new kitchen in time for Christmas. On the evening of the night before demo day they called and told me that they were not going to be able to get the cabinets until the 29th of December. I then told them to cancel the job due to their inability to meet deadlines. Too many reschedules made me a little nervous. Around February or March time frame they contacted me again. I decided that I would give them a second chance against my better judgement to make good because maybe it was just a fluke that everything didnt work out being as it was around the holidays. I set up an appointment for them to once again come to the house and give me an estimate and start the process over again. This time me and my wife sat at the house all night with no one showing up and no phone call. I will never allow them to come to my home again unless maybe the owner himself calls and comes for the estimate. As of right now, I will make sure to never recommend them for any home improvements.
