Mr Freeman gave a bid of $1600 with a breakdown on labor and materials. Because he did not accept credit cards, we agreed that I would buy the materials (with credit card at Home Depot) and pay him cash for the labor. He had inflated the materials by over $200 and wanted me to pay that overage in addition to the labor. When I asked why, he said it was because he had to meet me at Home Depot and he didn't charge for his time. It did not take any longer to check out for me to pay than it would have for him so I don't understand his reasoning. He said he doesn't like for customers to provide materials because they don't usually order the quality he needs but I bought the top quality paint at Lowe's and the same brand of caulk that he uses. He selected the wood himself. . I reluctantly paid him the inflated overage.. Mr Freeman showed up at irregular times (missing many days in a row when the weather was good) and spent a lot of that time coming inside and chatting with another contractor who was doing interior work. We had several rain days and that delayed some of his work and a plumber was digging under the house so that created some problems with him having access to one small part of the house. The fascia boards are supposed to have mitered corners but he just butted the boards together. When I asked him to correct that and follow industry standards, he said he didn't "bid on doing it right with square corners." When he corrected the corners, instead of replacing the entire piece of wood he just cut off pieces and replaced them so it is pieced together. He removed the drip edge and said it didn't need it (not true) and it was very plain that he did not use caulking at all joints (although he said he did). The vents were staggered and not in a straight line. There were some places that did not get paint (on the underside of the fascia boards). When the work was completed, he came by (after I sent an email to him requesting that he haul off the debris) and he hauled off just what he had stacked in the front yard. He had mentioned the debris in the back yard at one other time but he did not walk around the house to gather up the trash/debris. There were two good size stacks he left behind. He did not do any prep work before painting (scraping or washing areas that had what appeared to be mold) and although he said he would do two coats, he did just one coat. I'm glad I bought top quality paint. He dented both of the attic vents with his ladder and corrected one only after I asked him. He left the other one dented and said it was aluminum so I could easily fix it. He is a personable man.
Description of Work: Mr Freeman was hired to replace all fascia boards, soffits as needed, paint fascia boards and soffits, attach vent covers in soffits and clean up and haul off all debris. He did the work except for hauling off the debris.
