Worst contractor experience ever...I dont even know where to start! First, during the initial building stages I had to tell them how to read the blueprints because the lousy crew they sent wanted to build something different to what we originally agreed. I am not a construction expert but two of the posts were definetively not straight. These were fixed but ony after additional decking was built on top of them. Also, deck builders are supposed to attached all deck support to the house and then build out; my deck was attached to the house AFTER it was framed...that may explain the tilted deck posts! Second, the two guys they sent were not very friendly and seem to be in a great hurry to finish my deck as soon as possible. Thus, attention to detail was minimal....some of the spindels were not evenly spaced, they attached some of the components (steps, seating area) with only one of two nails, etc, etc. Third, I told them repeately that I did not care much about whether they would do things one way or another (in terms of style) as long as the deck was build in a consistent manner. Well...the deck looks like it was built by two different builders. They "wrapped-around" some areas while did not "wrap-around" others. Some of the steps were build using one style while othe steps build using a different style and the list keeps going... Fourth, they never installed the requested lattice skirting nor they refund the $250(!!!) they charged for it. Fifth, before leaving they emptied some mixed concrete on my backyard leaving my with a huge concrete rock there that I am still trying to remove. Please do yourself a favor and hire any other contractor, you are almost guarantee to have a bad experience if you contract with Dream Decks, for me the whole thing was a DECK NIGHTMARE!!!

It went great and I was happy. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. They were able to start within a week and they did the whole job in three days. I will probably call them back to do part of the deck and add another room.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Dream Decks to build a deck on a building that I am remodeling. I wasn't ready to do the deck until the remodeling was done. They told me that they could also do the remodeling part first and they gave me an estimate. I liked their estimate and decided to let them do the work. They actually preempted some walls to enclose an exterior part of this building that I want to make into living quarters. The did the work around the last week of July.

I would say that they were excruciatingly slow, but they didn't walk off the job. Their follow through was poor. They required payment up front. It is a very small deck and it has taken them three months. They always do take my phone calls however.

We looked them up on Angie's List. They had good ratings and we also saw them at a home show. They did a very good job. Everyone showed up on time.

The owner came to my house and designed the perfect deck that fit our needs for our kids' safety around the pool as well as entertaining our own friends. The multi-level Tigerwood 450 square foot deck is the highlight of the yard. The project was finished as planned in time for my oldest daughter's 8th birthday party. Everyone had a great time. Spending time outside has never been more comfortable and fun for the kids.
Description of Work: We had an exotic hardwood deck put around our above ground pool. We originally wanted a treated pine deck, but after speaking with many friends who have decks, they recommended that I go with either composite or hardwood decking. Dream Decks was very knowledgeable in all material questions I had. We chose Tigerwood because it has many vibrant colors which once it was stained, stand out and accent our home beautifully. We added benches and a storage cabinet to store all my pool supplies and chemicals.

We were told by another company (Paradise Decks & Spas) that our yard was the wrong elevation for a deck. However, the sales representative from Dream Decks, Mike Diaz, immediately came up with some creative ideas for a deck and gazebo. We contracted for this part first. Then, during construction, the builder, Adrian, showed us how an arbor could be attractively added which would provide much needed shade for the back of the house. The work went very well with only a few scheduling delays. The builder was extremely quality minded, rejecting and replacing a few pieces of the material originally delivered. All Dream Deck personnel were friendly, courteous, and professional. We are very pleased with the finished product.
Description of Work: Built a 250 sq. ft. deck and gazebo ($7900) and a 345 sq. ft. arbor ($5100) all from red cedar.

It was an awful experience. While the first contractor was tearing out the upper decking he found some wood rot and said we would have to fix it before he could move forward. It took us a month to find someone to do a half day, $400 job of replacing the boards. During that time there was work that could have been accomplished but no one showed up to do it. When I finally called my project manger to let him know they could finish the work I was told that someone else would be calling me, as he had been removed from the project. The new project manger didn't get the work started for another month (they had to find someone to do the work). First he sent Chad, then a week later he sent Steven to start the work. After repeating myself several times the work began. He said it would be done in a week if we had no rain. It took 3 months with minor rain and Chad coming back to finish the job. They left trash and rotted boards in my yard for 4 months because of lack of management.
Description of Work: Dream decks hired subcontractors to perform the work. They ripped out our existing decking and stairs and replaced with new. It was approximately 1500 square feet, with 450 square feet being 20 feet off of the ground.

Justin came out the afternoon of Sept 10, 2007. He looked at the job and we discussed the design. He gave us a rough estimate of $3500. Said he would contact us with a final estimate the next day. Never heard from him again. Called Dream Decks a week later. They said he "had just walked out the door", but would leave him a message to call us as soon as he returned. It is now Sept 23 and have yet to hear from anyone.

I'm still not sure what to write for this report. I have mixed feelings on how everything went. Sales: The estimate visit took over 2 hours. The salesman drew up a deck plan which was a great to actually see what we were purchasing (not the case with the other two estimates). However, I was not happy with the pressure he put on to immediately sign with Dream Decks. He wouldn't let us have our 20% Angie's List discount unless we signed right then. Later the following week, I talked to the sales manager and he was very good about changing the plans (since I now had some time to think about exactly what I wanted) and was good to work with in general. The original salesman promised the Dream Decks construction manager would come out, that he would come back for before/after pictures, etc. Nothing like that happened. The salesman didn't accurately draw some of the elevation problems and Dream Decks demolished my original concrete at no extra charge because of his mistake.
Description of Work: We had a 12X20 cedar patio with an 8 ft. cedar octagaon (with a bench) built. I was happy with the final product. There were some communications issues with the builders (as to when they were coming/finishing, misreading of the drawing), but it all turned out fine. The builders were nice people and good to work with. I wasn't thrilled that I had to pay $150 for a "construction cleanup fee" when all of the demolished concrete, garbage, etc., was just shoved under my deck. We have loved our deck though. It was just more hassle than I thought it would be.

The crew that did my work was exceptional. Very professional and exacting in their workmanship. They worked long hours, but were always willing to stop and explain at what stage they were presently and what to expect next. I have many pots, plants and a seating area with beautiful, expensive furniture. They handled every thing with care and nothing was damaged or broken. This alone to me is outstanding. When I add any more to this construction, I will insist that this crew do all the work. The crew chief, named Chad, was a joy with whom to work. I was not so impressed with the sales staff and customer service departments. I returned a survey given to me to fill out and informed the upper management of differences and dissatisfaction. Hope they take suggestions to heart, because the men working in the field deserve more support and the good will of the customers.
Description of Work: I had my large patio covered with an arbor type ceiling. Privacy panels installed on two sides, a deck opening off the patio, and a small round deck with seating, opening off of the large deck. It is done in Texas red cedar with top panels, over the privacy panels, of framed cedar lattice. It is similar to an outdoor room now, and I can sleep out there whenever I want. Next month, I will have two more small privacy panels installed making a door onto the other areas. I will have Dream Decks do this work. Since San Antonio has little rain, or cold weather, it will be a perfect room for all seasons.
