Purchased Big Deal $99 on May 20 for Dominion Fences & Decks. Through email I was contacted and made a date for the May 27 in the a.m. to complete this deal. No call or no show. I called and talked to Dennis in the P.M. of the 27th. He told me they would be at my home on the 28th after 4p.m. I was contacted in the a.m. of the 28th and told they would be there after 4p.m. that day. No call and another no show. I emailed with my concerns. No return email or phone call to this day. Please remove them from your list. They do not honor their commitment to the customer. After repeated tries still no show.

Received timely response and appointment was set through Angie's message board. Very courteous and encouraging replies. However, I never received a phone call or notification that he was going to be unable to keep his a appointment on the day of scheduled service. Very disappointing since I rearranged my schedule. Great work begins showing up for the job!

Some of the little things that I am particularly happy with include perfect clean-up (even wiping down the entire fence after installation), gorgeous work-around for odd angles (all hand cut for pergola), and awesome communication at any point during installation where things got tricky so that they could make sure I got what I wanted and I knew what/where we were in the installation process. Dominion is another small business that I have nothing but respect for as they also clearly take pride not only in their product but their customer service. I will be recommending them to as many friends I can, that are in need of a new fence/or yard makeover! Moreover, we will be hiring them again in the future to do more fencing as our budget allows. I am looking forward to it. :) I cannot express enough how very pleased we are with the look of the fence/patio/pergola and the quality of work is better than great, it is AWESOME, as well as the price. In addition to the great estimate, Dennis and his crew are all professional, personable & very quick. All 3 qualities are immensely important to us, especially with a renovation. We strongly recommend this company.
Description of Work: We called Dennis for a free estimate on some work we needed for our fence. He came out and gave us a free quote. He actually made design suggestions that made perfect sense that we had never even thought of. We also had Dennis bid us on a flagstone patio and pergola (we only had a builder slab). We decided to go with Dominion Fence and Deck Company due to an honest price and the pictures I had seen on the website.

He just showed up, walked around and didn’t do anything. He said I would need to pay more money. For $116 he said would adjust the gate, replace three boards, and make adjustment on the right side of my fence. Everything he said should have been included in the deal.

Response from Dominion Fences & Decks
I do apologize for inconvenience that might have led to an inappropriate meeting [Member name removed]. Originally, when I reviewed the $99.00 fence matinence package with [Member name removed]'s husband ([Member name removed] was running errands, so her husband was there in her stead. ), there was a point in discussing the project where [Member name removed] wanted to replace a section of fence called "Panels". Which, would have been more than the Angie's list deal would have stated (Fence matinence package) . That would have meant an additional cost for materials and labor. I tried to resolve this matter several times with my client, but they respectfully refused, resulting in cancelation of my service.

A section of my basket weave fence needed to be replaced. I contacted many fence companies and scheduled appointments to get an estimate and only 1 company came out to bid. It was extremely high in cost due to it being such a small section of fence. I joined Angie's List and looked at all of the reviews and found this company. I left a msg. and was called within 3 hrs. The owner was very nice and did not have a problem doing a small area of fencing. He was even able to give me a price over the phone based on what I told him and the measurements. Very professional and easy to deal with. I would highly recommend this business. I will be using them again, when the time comes to build another section of my fence.

Excellent job. Dennis provided a great quote, his crew showed up on time and accomplished everything promised; cedar fencing and using three rails. He used a quality stain that really made the fence standout; wood defender. Highly recommend this stain. Crews cleaned up after the job and Dennis came around to make sure everything was ok.

I was being sued by my neighbor for fence damage and I needed an estimate for the damages. I sent these guys a picture of the damage, and asked for an estimate, with the understanding that no work would actually be done. I just needed estimates for the court. Even though there was nothing to be gained by helping me, they still took time to look at the damage and send me a quote. I asked quite a few repairmen for an estimate, and most just ignored me. But they helped me out even when they had nothing to gain. I think that says a lot about someone.

Got a quote from Adam, he was great, gave us the best estimate over 800 dollars cheaper than the other two quotes we had received from other companies. They torn down the old fence, hauled it away and put up the new fence in 3 days. The fence is gorgeous, I love it. Would not hesitate to use the guys again, everyone was wonderful to work with.

I recently had a large-scale rebuild completed at my home after water damage with installation of 7 full-lite windows and a full-lite door in my sunroom. I was looking to have someone install a dog fence to keep my lab away from these windows and door so he couldn't scratch them. I called four fencers in the SA area on Monday, March 10 to schedule an estimate and Dominion was the only provider able to come out same day or rather answered or returned my call in a timely fashion. Considering all of the favorable reviews on Angie's List I figured the estimate would be a formality more or less. It seemed an added bonus that they could actually send someone the same day. The Rep arrived on time if not a little early and was actually the owner's son, Adam Rampersaud. He came in the backyard and I did my best to explain what I was looking for. Perhaps I wasn't articulating it well. Admittedly, I was open to suggestions and looking for an expert's opinion of what might not be such an eyesore but rather be functional as well. He abruptly told me at one point that my idea made no sense. I offered at this point to go get a can of spray paint (as other drainage/tree/etc contractors carried on them) to illustrate what I was looking to fence off with a gate. This seemed to help. I then asked to see his portfolio for ideas on design as I was open to wrought iron or wood depending on the difference in price. I commented on one photo in the portfolio and Adam said, "Yeah, that's tacky in my opinion but it was a lady in the Dominion and that's what she wanted." He seemed to believe the spacing of the pickets was a poor choice and "tacky." I was a little bit taken aback at this point - unprofessional comment number one. He then tried to sell me a fence stain on the proposed new and already existing fence which I understood the sales tactic but I reminded him that in order to do that I'd have to lose all of the beautiful ivy on my existing fence. He showed me stain samples and I asked him what color a part of my fence was already stained. (It appears the previous owners got lazy and stopped.) He looked at the area and said, "It looks like an ugly sequoia." I'm not sure if I gasped out loud but my jaw dropped. He then said, "Not that I'm calling your fence ugly." Unprofessional comment numbers two and three. He was on a roll. He needed to call back to get pricing on fence footage for both wrought iron and wood. (I was surprised he didn't know this off the top of his head.) He proceeded to argue with the man on the phone and then said, "Dad, gaw, I just forgot it - just tell me the price!!! THANKS." And he hung up. I asked if he was the owner's son and he smugly said he was part owner in the company. (Now I was really surprised he didn't know pricing.) Maybe it was an off day but I was wondering if the highly rated Dominion company had actually showed up at this point. He said the company was so super busy so it might be awhile till they could get started but then recanted quickly and said they could start that week and tried to get a commitment from me. At this point, I questioned the company's professionalism and decided I needed to sleep on it if anything. I told him I would know by Wednesday. When Adam called and left a message on Wednesday, March 12, he couldn't remember at first it had been just two days prior that he had come out. It was obvious he either didn't have the estimate in front of him or hadn't reviewed his notes before calling. The follow up voice mail was equally disappointing but not surprising. I actually had a coworker listen to the voicemail without telling him about the site visit to get his opinion. My coworker was equally unimpressed. I've spent a fortune on this house in past nine months and have dealt with many providers. I've gone with low bids to high bids and everywhere in between but ultimately it came down to how my meeting with the rep went. If I liked someone, they usually got my business because I realized if something didn't get handled, I would feel comfortable asking them to handle it. Adam didn't give me that feeling. From criticizing a previous customer (and really his company's work), to the sagging jeans and boxers, disrespectfully talking to his father on the phone, criticizing my home and thoughts, and being ill-prepared at time of estimate and for the follow-up, he lost my business before the estimate was even handed over. What a shame. I will continue to shop around despite their otherwise high reviews. I just didn't want to deal with unprofessionalism and its inevitable headaches.

This was a very nice company to work with. They were professional and punctual. They came on on the day they said they would, tore down the old fence and installed the new one. They did everything they said they would and within the time frame they set. We had absolutely no complaints and would recommend them to anyone. We certainly would use them if we decided to add a deck.

I start by saying this was a very large job for a residential home. We have about 2 acres and needed fence around approx half of it to keep our dogs in the yard. Dominion put up 8 ft cedar fence around the front and sides, wire mesh/horse fence in the back and installed a wrought iron gate and electric gate opener across an 18 ft driveway. All together, it took about 8 weeks to finish. There were days when we expected the crew to work but they did not show up. Overall the fence looks good. The staining and the quality of the privacy fence is great. Update - the gate was poorly welded and painted. The paint is chipping already and one weld has broken. The gate is also sagging and dragging on the driveway. We with held final payment until these were corrected however Dennis will not finish until he receives final payment. He offered to change the gate to the type that we initially contracted for, but for an additional $3200 which is not acceptable to us. So we've reached a stalemate and need to find another company to fix the gate.

I would highly recommend this company. The crew was on time, and worked quickly. I was promised a retaining fence for the one night that we were without a fence in the backyard (we have a pool) and they came out after dark to put this up. We were extremely happy with the quality of the materials, the knowledgeable crew, and the owner even coming out to inspect when finished. He had his crew come out and make some additional changes he felt were needed. (Another board across the bottom of a sloping area)

Excellent, best fence in the neighborhood. I got three estimates before going with Dominion. I chose him because besides being the cheapest of the three quotes, the superb quality of his materials and his attitude of giving great customer service made him the best choice. His beautiful red cedar, not spruce wood (no holes, bad boards, etc.) is imported from Canada (Mr. Rampersaud is originally from Canada and he knows his stuff) not a local wood. The posts are from good companies & they are well treated. He used screws that are both half-screws and half-nails so the boards won't come off in the future. His construction is far better than the other competitors and frankly better than anything I have seen in the San Antonio area. His gate construction is much sturdier than what the competition offered and he puts three hinges on each gate, not just two. They used a jack hammer to take out all the old cement posts and poured quick-drying cement by the end of the first day so that the posts were ready for the next day. Dominion also suppplied a temporary fence for the two neighbors behind my house who had dogs so they wou;d not get out until the ne fence was put up. I had a difficult time trying to match different brands of stains on different woods to match what the HOA wanted for our neighborhood. Watch out when you contract your fencer because each uses a different kind of wood and a different kind of stain and they don't always come out the way you expect. But, Mr. Rampersaud's stain (oil-based not acrylic) rolled on top of his cedar wood matched the color perfectly. He usually sprays his stain on but I specifically asked him to roll it on and he agreed. He even gave me a sample of his wood with the stain painted onto it so I could see exactly how it would turn out. I could match that sample to the color the HOA said we had to have on their color chart. Dominion uses a stain company that has been in business over 100 years and they have been featured on Extreme Home Makeover so you know it is a good product. His stain will last about 3 years, but it will have to be reapplied then. The HOA told me that the acrylic paint should last 10-18 years but when I walked through the neighborhood everywhere the sprinklers had gotten on the fence, the 1 1/2 year old acrylic paint had washed out, so I think oil based stain is better because it repels water better and permeates the wood, (unfortunately for the neighbors a little bit went to the other side). I asked the neighbors if they wanted their side stained but they said it didn't match the rest of their old wood fences so they didn't want it. I think they are sorry now because mine turned out gorgeous. One neighbor commented that the new fence is "far superior to the old one they had." What was great is that I didn't have to go to Lowes and have the acrylic paint made to the HOA's recommendation and then know how much to get for the workers, etc. With Dominion providing everything, I just sat back and admired how beautiful my fence was turning out. Oh, the guys also went by with a shovel and bucket picking up most of the rocks and debris they drilled out of my yard with the jack hammer. A few small splinters were left in the yard, but that was no problem for me to get afterwards. Mr. Rampersaud came each day to supervise what his workers were doing and also ask me if I was happy with how things were going. One problem did turn up when one of the workers got a little stain on the neighbor's outside fence that they didn't want stained. Mr. Rampersaud offered to either replace the boards or stain the whole 13 ft. section to match for free to keep them satisfied. They decided to go with the stain. All in all, this new fence job has been the easiest construction job that I have had done on my house. The workers were generally responsible and hard-working. I am so tired of contractors promising me everything and then not coming through on half of what they agreed to do. Mr. Rampersaud and Dominion Fencing came through above and beyond what I expected of this fencing job. My husband still can't believe what a beautiful fence we have and he is an engineer. Dominion is listed on BBB as an A + company. I would recommend this company as the best fencing company in San Antonio bar none.
Description of Work: Mr. Rampersand provided removal of 247 linear feet of old fence and posts (in cement), construction of the new fence in cedar wood with new cement posts and 2 gates, and the roll-on staining of all the inside of fence and approximately 105 ft of the outside of the fence. His men finished everything in three days. They took away and disposed of old fence on first day of work.

Quality cedar, treated wood posts, and gate hardware were used to construct our new fence. The posts were solidly sunk in concrete and the gates were not pre-fab but built on site to fit the available opening. To protect the fence we decided to have it stained. The fence looks incredible. Mr Rampersaud was great to work with and his crew did a very professional job. After having several bad contractors in the past he was wonderful to work with. We would not hesitate to use his service again and refer him to our friends.

We recently bought a home and noticed that several of the pailings on the back and side fences were coming apart from the railings. I got a few quotes and decided to have Dominion Fences and Decks come out and do this work. My husband and I were astonished at just how many pailings had to be replaced along with adding several new railings. Dennis, the owner, and his worker, Christian, did a great job and were here working non-stop for almost 5 hours. I would recommend Dominion Fences & Decks to anyone!

By far the BEST experience with a contractor. The owner had another project that made him a little late on the consult, but that also tells you he wanted to ensure the previous job was finished correctly and took the time to do what he needed to do. So, ensuring I would get better service was worth the wait. Dennis listened and delivered exactly what I needed and built the deck steps from my French Doors down to the pad so they were flush and level with the concrete patio. He gave "that little extra" and blessed us with a beautiful handrail and the color of the stain was absolutely perfect. We will use him again and again.
