We were very impressed with Frank's professionalism. He showed up on time, listened intently as we explained what we wanted done, offered sound professional advice, and provided us a written materials explaining how Lone Star operates and what to expect. We met with him on a Thursday and he said he'd have our estimate by Monday. He then phoned early Monday to let us know he was having trouble getting estimates for the custom replacement window but should have the estimate for us by the next day at the latest. Sure enough, he phoned the next day with the estimate which he then promptly emailed. Frank's bid for the project was far more comprehensive than the other one we received, and without a doubt we felt that Frank instilled far more trust and confidence than did the other company's representative. In the end, we decided we weren't ready to put quite so much money or time/energy into the bathroom and would opt instead for "sprucing" it up, but if/when we get up the gumption to do the job right, we'll be calling Frank at Lone Star.
Description of Work: Provided estimate for substantial bathroom renovations, to include removing old tub, sink and toilet, moving plumbing fixture locations, tiling entire room, replacing a window, and more.

Everyone from the company was professional and courteous. We had phone numbes to call at any time. We never minded having any one in the house. The final project looks great! They also did a good job cleaning up. The supervisor came frequently to check on the progress of the project.

This was out first experience with home remodeling, so weren't really sure what to expect, and didn't have any benchmark for comparison. What I can say is that the final outcome of the remodel is excellent and we've had nothing but praise from everyone who has seen our new kitchen. So we couldn't have asked for a better outcome from that perspective and we considered the price as extremely competitive . The only hiccup we had was a delay caused by problems with shipment of our cooktop from the manufacturer. Even though we ordered it 6 weeks prior to start of the project, it was not delivered until the entire project was nearly complete and awaiting it's arrival. The Lone Star team was really great in working around this delayed delivery. Bottom line - we chose Lone Star because of their reputation and their competitive bid, we are very pleased we did, and would definitely use them again.

We have used LSSC over six years for six different home improvement projects, ranging from small to enormous, at least by our standards. They have done excellent work on every one of them. The last job, replacing two windows and two doors and doing a small amount of painting, stretched over several weeks for a good reason -- they kept waiting for dry weather rather than rushing to finish. We have stopped getting bids from other contractors. Once you find good people like the Peters brothers, don't mess with it. Just let them do the work.

I contact Lonestar and advised them of what was needed in my emailed request - roofing and windows repairs. The rep came to my house and spoke with my tenant indicating that they should fix the surrounding of the windows themselves and they did not specialize in roofing. He also indicated that I should call another company to do the roofing. I reached out to Lonestar because they were a General Contractor. I though their purpose was to get quotes from the roofing and window person. My emailed request indicated my needs. I don't understand where the disconnect could be.

Thank you for bringing this subject up. It will give me a chance to clarify what we do. Even though we offer services in many different areas, we do have the right to refuse to take on a project. If the project is specialized, handyman, has scheduling issues, or if we do not connect with the client, we may turn the project down. We turned down this project because it was a handyman/roofer project. It does not fit our model. We are not equipped to be the do all – end all. We tried to incorporate handyman work into our business and it caused a deterioration of our main focus: Bathrooms, Kitchens and Additions. We folded the handyman division this year so that we could get back to our roots. We want to maintain the highest quality and the best service to our clients – to do this we have to turn down requests that would distract us from our core projects. Although we are super service award winners this year in 15 categories and do work in 20+ categories, it is hard for us to work in just one category. For example when we build an addition, we can be rated in 15-20 categories from electrical to plumbing to drywall to painting. In this case we do roofing as part of additions, whole house and patio covers. Whenever we get a roof only project, we typically refer the project to a roofing only contractor. I would like to elaborate on the email request disconnect. The email stated: The following needs to be inspected: Gutters, Attic, Windows, Master bedroom in the back bedroom carpets for molding in addition to the padding and the wood under the carpet, Roof. At first glance this project had the potential for roof and window replacement, insulation and carpet replacement, subfloor replacement etc. and is a project that we would take on, so we sent someone out to estimate. Upon inspection – this project was better suited for a roofer and a handyman. On hindsight, we may have been able to turn the project down at the initial request and saved us both time and effort - if we had asked a few more in-depth questions. We have put in our procedures to do just that for out of state owner requests.

Contractor initially irritated when I couldn't return midday phone calls. I work during that time. The project took too long from the initial walk through to job completion. The first three design drawings, which took over 4 weeks to be presented to us, we did not accept them, because functionality and bathroom size were not taken into account. The forth design that we went with, was basically just explaining to the Project Manager what we would like to have in a certain place. We should have asked for another design to be drawn up, but since the Project Manager was not a designer, he would have to get back to us again (figuring another 4 weeks for them to produce a fourth drawing), so went ahead with the project and since it was close to the holidays, we decided to start the project in January, so there would not be breaks during the construction project. The project started and after the demo, we were able to see what was behind the walls and floor, figuring repair work had to be done first since this is a 93 year old house. This is where it started to go downhill, the plumber started re-routing pipes and vents which ended in the attic, we asked the supervisor of the project, to come to the house (The supervisor does not stay during the project, they get calls from the sub-contractor's worker's when problems arise) to discuss the vent pipe ending in the attic and she said that was normal practice. Luckily, I did some research before she arrived and found Texas code regulations states that the vent pipe had to be at least 7 inches above the roof of the house. Once I mentioned that the pipe had to be connected to the existing vent pipe per Texas Code, she called the plumbers back to fix the pipes. I have to skip forward, because I would like to state facts, not complaints. The construction workers would bring up problems that had to be addressed, but they forgot that we were not suppose to speak to the workers (current contract ), so I had to call the supervisor again to visit the house, spoke to her and she did not (in my opinion) seem to know what the project design was nor did she implement any safety precautions that included having the floor covered so no one would fall in or did not add any safety work lights, the construction workers could not continue working since they had no lights, so they went to Home Depot and purchased a work light. During the construction we noticed workers covering rotten boards, so we called the supervisor to address the issue? After going back in forth with the supervisor, the project manager decided to change our project supervisor and the plumbing company, since their work had to be re-done and the construction had to stop to get a change order to repair the floor; once the floor was repaired another plumber came and routed the vent pipe properly. The construction started to move forward with the new supervisor and all seemed well until the design came up again, because the project manager did not disclose the layout of what we agreed on to the new supervisor about the design. We had to change certain things on the fly, plus another change order, because the design was not given to us in writing (our fault, should have asked for one), another note, do not let a contractor talk you into Not getting a city permit. The city permit will assist with getting an outside perspective of the work and it makes sure the contractor is being held to a city code standard. You might get a reason not to get a city permit, because if the city inspector finds something else wrong with your bathroom that is outside the scope of your contract, you will be force to pay to get that problem fixed as well, incurring additional cost to your project. Back to our project, we did a change order and the project continued. The project at this point was behind schedule and you should know that the LSSC contract does not protect the customer against project schedule delays, even if the delay is their fault. Nor does it offer any discounts, the contract only protects the company (so, read it carefully before you sign, if you are told making changes to the contract would only delay the project, insist they make the changes and then come back another day to sign it, please do not fall for ?you don?t trust us ?comment). Just so you know, the LSSC contract is their template, the only thing that is changed is the price and when a payment is made per contract milestone. This was my second project with LSSC, and I am speaking from my experience. Moving on, the painting was done, it was done twice, (this was our fault on the paint choice) we paid the difference and the project was finally completed. This project seemed painful for me and my mother, the bathroom looks nice, but we believe the setbacks could have been prevented and the company could have done a much better job with communicating with me and my mother and at managing their sub-contractors. Hopefully, now you know what questions to ask and what to expect if you choose this company.
Description of Work: Made repairs and upgrades to bathroom, the company does not do any of the work, they sub-contract the project to plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters and a demolition person(s), and you buy your materials like fixtures, tile, grout.

Getting a Page of Happiness gives us the feeling you get when passing your first driver’s license test. Even though you studied nightly and practiced driving every weekend, you are never confident of passing until they hand you that license to drive. Leaving your home renovation to ANY contractor while you are out of town or state could become your worst nightmare. We recognized early on that because of the large Military presence in San Antonio there would be families that would require renovations of their newly purchased homes or recently vacated homes while living in another state. We have taken advantage of the latest technologies to keep these transient families informed from start to finish. We utilize Base-camp to manage every project. This software program is online and can be accessed anywhere in the world. Every client has access to this program to watch the progress of their project unfold using the latest calendar technology. We also utilize i-Phones and i-Pads to communicate by text, email, photo and video. Daily photo and video updates helps you to SEE how your project is progressing and will give you the confidence that your project will finish with the same quality and timeliness as if you were on-site. Thank you for the great review and ratings!

I was a little nervous when we didn't get the estimate at the original time we were told. Then when it came in and it was $6000 lower than two competitors, I wondered what was going on. Coming from a large family of laborers (carpenters, contractors, mechanics, electricians, etc) I can spot a red flag a mile away and was very up front with our team - show up on schedule, but if something changes call me before our agreed time, not two hours after. I could not have been more pleased with every single aspect of the company. We had a late start, but not only did the VP call me personally to address the issue without a single complaint from my end, the entire project was done in 6 days and at budget, as promised. Billy was a great foreman and each subcontractor was above and beyond all expectations we had. We have three other renovation projects over the next 3 years for our home, and I will hire LSSC without hesitation for all three of them, as well as recommend them to anyone who is in the market. (In fact, I already did and they're on a project currently with a friend, who is equally as impressed!) This company is a game changer in an industry full of broken promises, lack of professionalism and no-shows. It was a pleasure to be their client.

When we read this review, our first reaction was “Did we lose money on this project?” We went back to the estimate and found the pricing to be spot on. I can see why the red flag went up, you were expecting a surprise bill at the end. We pride ourselves for having excellent quality work at a competitive price. Our estimates become our promise to you at contract signing. We have a change order process during the project that is timely and require your approval before we proceed. There will be no “surprises” at the end of your project with LSSC. Thank you for the great review!

Thank you for the great review and ratings! Sounds like we did our part, but the successful results are really attributed to you doing your part. Thanks for the great communications.
