Description of Work: Our interior home was painted, old flooring of ceramic tile and carpet removed and replaced with engineered wood throughout. Placed canned lights in high sloped ceiling in living room and kitchen. Backsplash in kitchen replaced with subway tile. Overall, experience was positive. Our project manager, Tommy, followed through on what he said he would do and was in contact daily for updates. He has been a pleasure to work with, felt like he was always available, fair and visited our home often to check up in the progress. It has made this experience smoother. Thank you Lonestar!

Superintendents: Every project that we perform comes with a Superintendent (this client labeled him a Project Manager). The job of the Super is to be your direct communication link with the company and the subcontractors. They maintain your online schedule, coordinate the subcontractors and communicate with you daily to make sure your needs are met. We have heard many complaints by past clients that when they tried to manage a subcontractor on their own, quality was reduced, excuses were made and sometimes it was difficult to tell the professional that their work is not up to par. Injecting a Super into the project, you now have a quality control goto person, someone to bounce questions off of, someone to voice concerns with. For the timid, you now have an advocate. For the overbearing, you now have a shield between you and the subs (keeping them from walking off the job), for the detail oriented, you can discuss issues a length without delaying the task at hand. We have years of successes and failures under our belt and have been able to find solutions for just about every remodel that has been sent our way. It takes real-time, in the stuff experiences to make remodel projects flow smoothly. Armchair DIYers that inject themselves into the process will only cause stress, delays and do-overs. If you are a person who requires being in charge of every aspect of your project – we are not the right fit for you. If you are able to let the Super be your drill sergeant, your project will flow smoothly like the project above.

Responsiveness refers to the specific ability of a system or functional unit to complete assigned tasks within a given time. I wanted to look up the definition, because there was no elaboration in this evaluation. Because a “B” rating is detrimental to us, we discuss with the superintendent the specifics of this project and try to find ways to keep from repeating this infraction. In the case of this exterior siding project, we had four days of no work because of rain and the project went over three days. We view it as completing the project one day early, and the client sees it as three days late. Having said that, we are not picking on this client – We fully appreciate the rating. It just gave us the opportunity to focus on perception and responsiveness and what we can do to improve both.

Thank you for reviewing our sheetrock repair. Many people think that sheetrock repair is easy and anyone can do it. Not true. It takes years of experience to make a repair disappear. Take a look around your home, can you spot repairs? If so, it was done incorrectly. We expect our drywall subcontractors to make all repairs disappear, and so should you. We have some of the best subcontractors in San Antonio. Our vetting process is pretty harsh. Our expectations for great work is very high and we make sure that the end product is done to our exacting standards. As simple as a drywall repair and paint job seems to be – More than a few of potential subcontractors could not make the grade. I have seen drywall work where you can find the patch from across the room – not here – not with Lone Star State Construction.

Description of Work: I hired this company to remodel my current shower in my master bedroom. Overall, they did a good job with the shower itself, I'm pleased with the shower; minus the glass installation, which they vendored out to another company. I'm still waiting on the glass installers to call me back about replacing the glass because it's not straight. Warning, your contract will have a completion date; however it does not include the additional 10 days that it will take to get your glass (if you do a frameless glass shower). Be sure you understand exactly what complete means. I would only recommend this company to individuals that have plenty of time and are ok with strangers having access to your home throughout the project. If you work, you will have to leave a lock box on your porch with your key so that the contractors can come (if they come) and go as they please. We started this process with Jason who was very responsive and followed up with me weekly after he completed the estimate. That was one of the reasons that I went with this company because out of the three estimates I received, he followed up and returned my calls and emails in a timely manner. However; once I signed the contract it was the total opposite. He never returned my calls and didn't reply to any of my emails. The next time I heard from him was when he emailed me telling me he needed to pick up the final payment. He even told me that he couldn't pick up the check at a certain time, because he had a baby at home, so could we schedule the appointment for another time.... Understand what happens when the job is not completed on time. The company contracts out different specialty jobs (they tell you that they don't have contractors; not true), be aware of this because they will have access to your home. Tommy was a good project manager for the job and he did what he could as it relates to returning my calls and addressing my concerns. Too many times it seemed his hands were tied. Despite the above experience, we still requested work in a different area. Working with Jason, we spent time designing an entertainment cabinet taking actual measurements and drawing diagrams. In November 2013, Jason told me he would get back in touch with me with a quote the following week. I had not heard anything since.

Let me ask you….would you rehire a company that you rated a D? Neither would I, yet this client’s last paragraph stated that she requested more work in a different area. So, was it really D work? Or was this an emotional response because we no longer wanted to work for her? Jason was the project manager. He hands the project to the Superintendent (Tommy) on the start date. Tommy takes the project to completion. This is stated very clearly on the start date. The only reason Jason visited her one last time was because she refused to give the check to Tommy. Jason was relaying her concerns to Tommy during the project. She kept trying to reengage Jason – thus tying up Tommy’s hands. I am not sure what she was trying to convey about “Specialty jobs”, but we make it clear that we use subcontractors. She brought up the lock box a few times so I will end with that discussion. We work from 9-5 weekdays. In order to do our work, we have to be inside your home. If you restrict our access, we cannot accomplish the project – simple as that. You have two choices – Make someone available to give us access each day, or put a lockbox on your home. The greater majority of homes that we work on place a lockbox at the entrance. If we were not trustworthy, then how do you account for all the great ratings seen here? We have worked very hard to gain and keep that trust. You will not see theft mentioned in any of them, not even the negative ratings.

This job turned out really nice, don't know why the report doesn't reflect what she was given. The Client never stated any issues throughout the process of the project nor stated any negativity of our services. As far as we know she was pleased when she wrote the final check to us. This report doesn't reflect the processes of this particular job which can be intrusive, smelly and timely. We try to let the Clients know what to expect, the processes of their particular project, but some Clients have never had a remodel or additional work done to their home and don't really know what to expect even though we have walked them through the process. Thanks for your report and we hope you will contact us on any future projects you may have.

Description of Work: I apologize for taking so long to write this review. Last May , my elderly mother's house was flooded by a pipe burst and she needed to vacate the house, first the insurance company referred us to a vendor and they took a month and still no work was completed. I called in Don in late June and got an estimate and he an his team got working within a week . I live in NY and had to supervise work via email and text pics. All the work went smoothly and soon my mother was back in her home . I will use LoneStar again. I recommend them highly to anyone looking for any remodel work !

Picture this: A son living in New York hires a contractor in San Antonio to fix up his mom’s home after a house flood. Mom moves out of the house and the Son does his homework on Angie’s List to find the right contractor for the job. The contractor sends video of the restoration progress daily and quickly finishes the work. Mom moves in and all is well. Now picture this: A son living in New York hires a contractor in San Antonio to fix up his mom’s home after a house flood. Mom moves out of the house and Son finds a local contractor from the yellow pages. The contractor does the work and sends the final bill. Mom walks in the front door to find out that the interior paint is the wrong color, the kitchen tile was installed in the bathroom and the bathroom tile installed in the kitchen. Mom tells son. Son calls contractor. Contractor avoids the calls. Angie’s list gives their clients not only a piece of mind but also helps to solve the issues in the second scenario. This client made the right choice by hiring Lone Star State Construction. Good job doing your homework son.

We appreciate the reports Clients leave us but we ask of our Clients that if you do give us a report (no matter what the grade) we ask that you explain the complete story and be honest in your explanation. What this Client doesn't state, is that we gave him an itemized estimate of the work he wanted us to bid on and he only chose one item out of the entire estimate we provided him and the estimate went from a $4250.00 job to a $1120.00 job. As we have stated on Angieslist home page, we do not do small jobs and if a Client chooses to remove most of the work we already estimated, we also have the opportunity to service the job... or not, just like Clients have the right to choose which Contractor they want to hire or not.

Description of Work: I was looking to construct a screened-in-porch and located 3 likely contractors on Angie's List to tackle the project. Of the first two companies that came by for a site visit, the first was nice enough to say upfront that he couldn't handle the project and the second could not meet my design requirements. The third company, Lone Star State Construction ( Dave Peters) came on site and was able to understand and provide valuable information to complete the project. I was also able to provide Dave with a photo of a similarly designed porch and with that additional information, he was able to understand exactly what I wanted. Dave and I signed a fixed-price contract that was very precise and professional concerning the price and scope of the work to be done. Start dates and completion dates were included. The construction started as scheduled and, with a few weather delays, was completed on schedule and within the estimated cost with only one change order. Dave's construction superintendent, Kevin Keenan, and his subcontractors were outstanding. At one point in the construction, we couldn't come up with a way to get the high pitch on the roof. With Dave's on-site advice and discussion, we came up with an idea for a vertical skylight arrangement with fixed glass panes that would allow us to use the existing roof line to raise the back of the porch roof for the proper pitch. Dave's crew then constructed the screened-in-porch using my existing slab attached to the house. I am very well pleased with my porch. I would recommend Lone Star State Construction for any project like this. Very professional, knowledgeable and responsive.

There are just some people who cannot give straight A's no matter what. We gave this client a great deal on their exterior paint job, they accepted, loved the work and paid us in full for a job well done. As far as the pricing goes we are normally the middle bidder of a project if the client ends up getting 3 seperate bids. This client knew and accepted the total cost of the project before we started the work because we write a very detailed contract before we start any job. Like they say YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYBODY... but I must say we try very hard to.

This was a bathroom remodel that went very smooth, without too many changes to the original contract. We removed everything in the bathroom including the Kitchen sink, we even demoed walls. We poured a new shower pan and tiled pan and walls, took the clients old vanity cabinet, re-configured the cabinet and built on to it and re-installed it into the same space. We installed a cultured marble vanity top. Changed out all the fixtures and textured and painted the bathroom. We also installed wood bracing and 2 grab bars in the shower. The job was done on time and on budget. Enjoy your new bathroom!
Description of Work: Because of a leak in our master bathroom we contacted Lone Star State Construction. Dave Peters came out and while he was here we discussed other areas in the house as well that needed attention. Dave was very quick in giving us a professional detailed estimate. We decided to remodel 2 bathrooms and the sun porch. The work on all 3 rooms was quite extensive to say the least. Everything except the tub in one bathroom was removed, including the tile, and replaced. Carpet was removed from the dressing area and closet and replaced with tile. The sun proch floor had to be leveled, which was a big job, the door going outside raised, a window removed and an a/c-heater wall unit installed. Tile floor was replaced with hardwood and the walls were all redone. Daren and his crew arrived right on time and I must say, everyone invloved in this project was very pleasant and professional. There were several problems along the way that no one could have anticipated. Each was handled very graciously and professionally. Daren even brought out a temporary sink at one point when we found ourselves in the position of needing two working bathrooms. He was here just about every day checking on progress and detail of work being done. If he saw something that he didn't feel was just right he had it taken care of. He was also very flexible and patient while working with us on our schedule as we had a few interruptions along the way. We feel the quality of work, integrity, professionalism, kindness and consideration of Lone star State Construction is certainly way above average! They do go above and beyond to make sure the quality of work done is the best.

This job was a bit different than some of the usual jobs we do because of the scope of work we did as well as having the clients stay in their home while the remodeling, which is always challenging. What was even a greater challenge was to remodel two bathrooms at the same time when company of theirs were scheduled to be there in the middle of the remodeling. We made sure that the bathroom was operable and had a bath tub, toilet and sink that they could use while staying at the clients home, we simply worked around it. We also leveled an existing covered pation slab and installed hardwood flooring on top of the slab, while redoing all the walls changing from paneling and brick to drywall, we also removed a window and installed a heat/cooling unit in its place, it came out beautiful! We really enjoyed working for this client. They were hospitable, nice and easy to work with. Enjoy your remodeled bathrooms and get some use out of your new sunroom!

A person of few words….. This was a whole house remodel . We started with paneled walls, cat stained carpets, vinyl floors, popcorn ceilings and dated bathrooms – you get the picture. Recently the homeowner moved into their new home which now has wood floors in the dry rooms, tiled floors in the kitchen and bathrooms. The entire interior is covered in fresh new paint with colors that reflect the owner’s lifestyle rather than dreary white and panel brown. The bathrooms are finished in marble with top of the line cabinetry and fixtures. The contrast is stark and the results were awesome as stated by the code words “very well”
