Compton Air was asked to come out the residence that I was purchasing to give me a bid on replacing several A/C units. They sent a technician in September of 2011 to look at my units. He finished his work, and said a salesman would contact us the next day with an estimate. We decided to use another vendor. 8 months later, I received a bill for $834 for the inspection work that the technician performed. I called the office, and they said it was a mistake, and to just ignore it. In March of 2013 I received another bill for the $834, this time saying please pay to avoid collections. I called the office, and they told me it was for the tome the technician was out inspecting my units. I told them I had asked for an estimate, had received several from other companies at no cost, and at no time was I, or my brother who was on property for the inspector, told there would be a charge. On April 18, I received a letter saying that after "several attempts", my debt was being turned over to a collection agency. At no time was I or my brother told of a charge in connection for receiving an estimate. We were never offered a contract to sign, nor did we ever sign any such contract explaining there would be any kind of inspection charge. The first time I was contacted for this charge was 8 months after the company sent a technician to look at my units, and received no kind of invoice until that date. Again, we had several other A/C companies come out and perform the same service as Compton in the attempt to gather estimates on the cost to repair or replace the units. None of the others charged a penny.

Response from Compton Air Conditioning
On 9/14/2011 (member name removed) called our office to inquire about us diagnosing 6 units at a home they were looking into buying. In a conference call with the owner of Compton Air Conditioning, the dispatcher and the sales rep Ed Campos it was decided that we would first send out a technician to review the systems allowing our company to understand which systems would need to be replaced and what repairs needed to be done on any that didn’t need replacement. At that time the (member name removed) brothers were informed that there would be a charge for diagnosing the systems at 139.00 each. As per our policy, anytime we diagnose a system to bid replacement or repair, we give back the diagnoses fee when our company is chosen to do the repairs or replacement. During that visit we found 2 systems working properly and 4 needed to be replaced. The following day Ed Campos visited the location to give the (member name removed) a bid on replacement. They chose to go with another company, which is perfectly acceptable. However, since they were able to replace those systems off our diagnoses it is only common business practice to recoup the money spent in labor and expertise of our technician when we are not given the job. (member name removed) has gone online to Yelp!, Angie’s List, Band of Neighbors and told some flat out lies. Listed below is a copy of the email sent in a timely manner days after the diagnostic and sales visit were completed. From: [mailto:accounting@comptonhvac.com] Sent: Monday, October 03, 2011 1:13 PM To: (info removed) Subject: Invoice from Compton Air Conditioning Heating Consulting Dear (member name removed) : Your invoice is attached. Please remit payment at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your business - we appreciate it very much. If you have any questions, please give me a call. Sincerely, Accounting Department 210-403-2943 During my many conversations with (member name removed) regarding this invoice he has never been told that he does not owe it. In fact during the last conversation when he accused of us of never sending an invoice I pulled up the above email and read to him the email address it was sent to and he confirmed that it was his email and that he had not seen the invoice. To continue to state that he wasn’t billed for 8 months after the fact leads us to believe that (member name removed) does not want to pay the bill and that his goal has nothing to with our company but protecting his own pocketbook. The bottom line is that the (member name removed) brothers knew there would be a charge for diagnosing 6 systems that took a trained technician 6 hours to go over, they received their bill in a timely manner, have been asked to pay it numerous times over the last year and only now when we threaten to send them to collections have they chosen slander as their next plan to get out of paying what they owe. The bill will go to collections and there will be an additional 33% will have to pay.

Although it seemed like this service tech. was thorough he failed to look at and show us the coils which were obviously leaking. He showed us many other parts and explained in detail how everything worked but somehow didn't go over this with us. It only took a few screws to take off the panel to look at the coils.
Description of Work: Our service tech Mark came early morning to look at the A/C unit. We were on the defensive thanks to poor service from another company. In their defense, he explained that each person goes thru the process of checking the unit in their own steps. He walked through all of the items that he was checking explaining everything to both of us. He even let me record some of his explanation of how the system worked so we could review it later. He took the time to check everything and when he did find the problem he explained why it wasn't working. There were two filter dryers in the outside unit and there was sediment which would not filter thru either one but would clog one and then be sucked back to the other. He also explained that the tech from the other company should have been able to see this from the initial visit because it was plain to see from the top when you shut off the fan. He was courteous and polite and I would highly reccommend this company for trustworthy service. 8/2/12 Update: Another company not approved by American Home Shield but certified by the state of Texas said that it wasn't a problem with the filter dryers which should be there, both of them, but that there was a leak in the coils which Mark didn't check.I personally saw the leak and remember there being notable water damage by the A/C unit when we did a walk thru before moving in. His report to my Home Warranty company with his potentially BOGUS claim invalidates my warranty because any 'modification' to the A/C unit voids the warranty. Tricky wording on his part keeps the Home Warranty company from having to pay out. Our new repairman gave us a quote of $1000.

Description of Work: Compton completely re-installed my residential ductwork. Thirteen months after the work was completed, I discovered that the ducts were leaking. They came to fix the initial leaks (12 month warranty) and made some adjustments to try to even out airflow throughout the residence. About 2.5 years after installation, I discovered that the ducts were leaking again. Upon closer inspection many problems were found: inconsistent vent sealing, joints leaking at the coil, and one duct had insulation that pulled away from the duct work. Almost 3 years after their work was completed, I had to hire another company re-do the work, and I was again eligible for a rebate from CPS Energy because there was so much leakage. Before calling another company, I asked if there was anything Compton Air could do to help me. They said, "I'm sorry. You are out of warranty." I expected the work to last longer than 3 years. Compton is no longer a part of the rebate program per CPS Energy. I do not recommend Compton Air.

They were excellent. I was more than satisfied. They were wonderful. I got a lot of discounts and free quarterly checkups so it was a very good deal. It has a warranty and nothing has gone wrong with it. They were not the cheapest but they were the fairest. They were very professional. Ross is the owner.

After the service call to unfreeze the line, the company recommended I tilt the AC unit to avoid further issues with the line. The unit had been installed four years before and had run fine, so I was suspicious about this diagnosis. The next time the line froze, I asked another company to diagnose the issue. This tech found that the occupant of the property had put a bookcase in front of the AC system's return air vent! Once the vent was unblocked, the line stopped freezing.
Description of Work: The company made three calls at a property I own durng the spring and early summer of 2011. One call was for routine maintenance; the second was to replace a broken condensor motor. The last call was to unfreeze a line.

Called Compton due to being a "Premier" Lennox dealer as listed on Lennox web site. I was hesitant to use them as they had no reports on Angie's list to date, but I was desparate to get my AC fixed. Had been using using another Lennox dealer in town, who installed system in 2006, but they had to order part from out of state and my AC had been down 4-days already in 100F hottest days of year! Talked to manager Ross on late on Tues at Compton, and he was able to locate expensive variable speed blower motor/ speed control for my 4-year old Lennox furnace, still under 10-yr OEM parts warranty. These motor/speed controls list at $1400! Miraculously, Ross was able to locate a motor in my town and we scheduled repair for next day. Compton repair tech showed up Tues. PM (running 1hr late) and installed replacement blower motor and also did "spring tuneup" mantenance after getting system up and running. Compton being a "Premier" Lennox dealer apparently has priority on OEM parts, according to manager Ross. However, service tech Oscar told me they only currently have two service vans/techs, down from previous four, so I questioned how this "Premier" rating was obtained? Nevertheless, the Compton tech was professional, quick and got the job done and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, although the limited techs might be cause for delays during peak cooling season in south Texas. There was no charge for the very expensive motor/speed control part, since it was under warranty and the total labor bill was within reason.
Description of Work: Replace Variable speed blower motor/ speed control in Lennox G60UHV furnace. Performed annual maintenance (spring tune up) on HVAC system.
