Fantastic--these guys are the only thing (and a few others on AngiesList like LarryInspects and J&R Tile) that kept me from really distrusting people and especially tradespeople through our hellish home build. Can't recommend them highly enough. They must have done 20 repairs for us, but most importantly, they took care of us every step of the way. Very good people.
Description of Work: We needed HELP. Another company, Kore Plumbing had improperly installed the sewer (and just about everything else) at our new home, and also got the City Inspector (in Alamo Heights) to let them cover the sewer before being inspected. I had a hunch there were problems, and another amazing AngliesList person Larry at LarryInspects referred us to Chambliss. We asked around, and everyone said Chambliss was great--not cheap, but good, trustworthy, reliable. So I called them. The person, Andre, who I reached came over immediately (was on a nearby job), and looked into our clean out and said, you've got problems. He offered to come run his camera (for free, but we insisted on paying them), and he was able to document a totally defective sewer. That SAVED us. The builder then immediately asked for all of his money--he knew we were onto what they had done. The owner of Kore Plumbing tried to justify and explain--seriously ?!?, explain lying to the owners that a sewer they knew was defective HAD been inspected, how do you explain that--and Andre confronted him directly, starting with, "This ain't my first rodeo," meaning he had seen this kind work before and called him on it. The person from Kore quickly said Kore would fix it. We got a lawyer, who said we had should let Kore do the the work. We did, and they again violated code and tried to pass it off on us (again, City Inspector looked the other way). So, then we brought Chambliss in to do the work right, and then also reinstall the other code violations and defective installs, like a defective grinder pump, absent drain pans...like 15 things. Ugh. Wasn't cheap, but boy were they prompt, courteous, and even encouraging. When one of the Chambliss plumbers was getting push back from the City of AH (seriously!), Mr. Chambliss himself went to City Hall to get the permit--and they stood him up. So he went back again and got it. Real professionals these guys are. Mr. Chambliss is making the world a better place. He retains talented employees, like Andre, who deserve a good salary--these are the good people in the world--and Chambliss pays to send his new plumbers to school to get their master's plumber license. Won't he lose them when they get that license? Does not seem to. Treats every worker as important and a professional, and that makes the whole company work well. I learned from Andre that changes proposed at the State would allow a single master plumber to oversee twice as many new plumbers, which would increase the likelihood you get some yahoo like we did from Kore doing your work. I mean seriously. We had pipes that weren't sealed, toilets that leaked (used the wrong size seal), ran water lines wrong (takes 3+ minutes to get hot water in the master)--all of these we had Chambliss repair. Yes, plumbing cost twice what it should have because we paid twice. But at least we can have some faith that things are okay now. Seriously--I've learned something through the **** we went through with our Contractor, Shelly Home Company and their subcontractors, especially Kore Plumbing--there are two kinds of businesses and business owners in this set of trades. Those who are thinking about society, about rewarding workers and helping them take pride in what they do, rise through the profession to be their best, and treat people fairly. I really think people like Kevin Chambliss and Andre--and those who hire companies like theirs, and J&R Tile, and others--who treat workers and clients with respect reduce child abuse, alcoholism, and violence by making everyone feel respected and important. Take pride in your work--even if you are doing the most basic work in the world--and you won't be inclined to drink and take your frustration out on others. Social justice, they call it, when things done right make the world a better place. Rising tide lifts all boats, right. Then there are those who are just in it for the money that goes into their pocket. The companies our Contractor hired, especially Kore Plumbing, G. Nino Paint, Calvaras Construction seemed to give no respect to their workers, and cleary did not respect us. They did not seem to care that we had paid good money but got a house with windows scratched and bowed, doors that don't function, tile with cracks and mold in walls. The most important thing is to get in and get out and make a profit. That's what drives people to drink and take out frustrations on others. So, when you are thinking about who to hire and you start to make your decision based on price--and whether they are well rated on Anglies list--think about the fact that lower prices mean lower wages which means the owners don't care about their employees, probably. We found that if a company is on Angies list, they did not screw us. Several of the subcontractors on our project were on AngiesList, and we had no problems. Everyone who screwed us was conspicuously absent from Anglies list, except Nino Paint, who may have changed their name after F. Nino paint got an F from someone. Go with well rated companies like Chambliss, even if you pay a bit more now, and you will likely pay less down the road, you will be able to sleep at night, and you also may be making the world a little bit better place to live for that company's employees.
