My water heater sprung a leak and started leaking through the ceiling. After searching Angie's List, I called Chambliss Plumbing, they understood the urgency of the situation and were able to stop by to turn the water off to prevent further damage. They gave me an estimate and later replaced my hot water heater, did some other plumbing work, some related to the heater, some not. They did a perfect job cleaning up after themselves. They even cleaned the mess from the water leaking from the ceiling so I didn't even have to deal with that. The receptionist was friendly, knowledgeable and expedited the service call. Kevin Chambliss is very professional and fair, and his crew is great. I will definitely use them again as the need arises.

During the freeze in Feb 2011, the pipes from my well froze and developed leaks (Two major ones and several smaller ones). I contacted Chambliss and they scheduled an appointment. On the day of the appointment, the plumber (Travis) was over two hours late; he did not have the courtesy to call and inform me that he was running late, I had to track him down and call him to see if he was ever going to show up. While at the well unit, I specifically told Travis what need to be done - two major concerns and the other leaks. After his accessment, in his own words "this will run $250.00, $300.00, but THIS JOB will not be over $350.00". This seemed a bit steep, but at this point I needed to have water, plus I had to attend to my ailing wife. He then proceeded with the repairs. Unfortunatlely, this compamy does not know how to honor an agreement, so imagine my surprise when he handed me a bill for $450.69. After questioning him about the charge, he tried to justify it by stating that they normally don't charge extra for emergencies; but, because of the freeze, Chambliss was charging their usual rates plus 50% more. In other words they were gouging their customers. Although he took care of my two major concerns, he never addressed the smaller leaks and broke some of the PVC pipe along the way. He told me that he would come the next day to finish and stated he would not charge me the service call fee. We had agreed on a price for the job and now it seemed that he wanted to charge me even more to finish the job. Again his professionalism came through and never called. I had to call several times before I was finally able to have him return my calls. I tried to hold this company to its original agreement. and it took over a month to resolve this issue. In the end, the owner did reimburse me $45.00 - 10% discount because we lived in the same subdivision. To the end, Kevin was still trying to justify the obsessive charges, using different rates, first 1/2 rates, emergency rates, time and a half rates. In the end I was quoted a price for a JOB not "time and material' price.
Description of Work: During the freeze in Feb 2011, the pipes from my well froze and developed leaks (Two major ones and several smaller ones). The plumber replace two "El"s and jimmy rigged the feed to the bladder tank, this included one of the replaced "El"s. He also had to replace 1 PVC male connector - after he broke the original connection. All said and done, the two major leaks were fixed successfully, but the smaller leaks were not addressed.

February 2nd through February 6th, San Antonio had the coldest streak for weather in over 25 years. Chambliss Plumbing received over 400 calls in our area alone for burst pipes due to the freeze. All of our staff was brought in over the weekend in order for us to get water service back on to our customers. My plumbers averaged 12 hour days on Saturday and Sunday to provide service to our customers. Member called us on Saturday and had no water to his home; we informed him that we were booked up through the day, but that we were open Sunday for emergencies only. (Our office and plumbers are normally off for family and worship on Sundays but I feel we have an obligation to our customers during this type of emergency.) All emergency work was time and a half and Member was aware of this. Member showed Travis the (2) breaks and asked him how much to fix these (2) leaks. Travis told him $250 to $350 based on time and material and these leaks were repaired. When the water was turned back on, Travis found (2) more leaks that had to be repaired to get the water to stay on. He showed these to the homeowner and told him they would be extra. Homeowner gave the go ahead to do the extra work. It was completed and water was on for the homeowner. There were several other small leaks that needed to be addressed and we did let Member know we would come back during normal business hours to repair small leaks and there would be no service charge to return. We did not say we would fix all of his leaks free of charge. Member called my office to state his position and I credited him $45 (or 10%) and he acknowledged to me that he was quoted 1.5 hrs and materials when he called in. We are sorry that he was not happy with the price, but we do need to charge extra on days that we are normally closed because it costs us more to operate.

Very satisfied with the level of response and quality of work. The initial call was on time, camera inspection was efficiently managed with an estimate of project produced on site. Andre explained clearly the best solution plus other options. He was consistently available for questions prior to commitment. If a message was left, a call back was received in a very reasonable amount of time. Once scheduled, the excavation company was on time and prompt when adjustments had to be made. Plumbing work was completed efficiently. Water was off only a couple hours. As soon as the trench was closed concrete contractor arrived and closed the open driveway. All persons involved were polite, neat and efficient in their work. While Andre and Adam accomplished the project, Kevin Chambliss made a personal inspection and introduced himself. The quality of communication, supervision and efficiency of work added significantly to the satisfaction of the project.
Description of Work: Camera inspection of sewer line from house to septic indicated root penetration in a couple locations. The line from house to septic tank was trenched, to include saw cut through driveway, and replaced schedule 40 pvc to code.

We had a small leak in an old shower that could not be fixed without removing lots of old tile so we did a small fix and were going to wait until we could remodel the entire bathroom. Unfortunately, I was cleaning and accidentally broke the faucet and water went everywhere. They came out quickly, gave us a great estimate, did the job promptly and professionally we are very happy. We will gladly use them in the future.

My overall experience with Chambliss was great. They arrived a short time after I called. I was thoroughly impressed with the professionalisim of both gentlemen. There was no visible leak found after the initial check was completed. The next option would be to knock some holes in the walls, but there was no guarantee that would show anything. They suggested that I keep an eye on the area especially after doing several loads of laundry and a good rainstorm to see if there was any water on the wood floors. I appreciated them not knocking holes in the wall especially when they weren't sure that was the cause. I would highly recommend this company. Starting with the initial phone call everyone was pleasant and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to call them in the future. Ann Murdock 18911 LaVerita San Antonio, TX 78258

We hired Chambliss plumbing in the recent past for a clogged pipe resulting from a poorly functioning disposal in the kitchen. The employees were very professional, prompt, and the service was well-priced. We decided to hire them again to re-route or gas line to the attic to accommodate our new furnace. The ladies in the office were courteous and considerate every time that I spoke with them on the phone. They went out of their way on many occasions to make sure that I knew when the plumber would arrive, if he was running late, or to let me know if there was a problem with anything. The plumber, Skylar, was just as courteous and professional. His work ethic is solid and I have nothing but good things to write about him. With rave reviews of all of the employees so far at this point of my experience with Chambliss Plumbing, I was completely shocked and caught off-guard by the lack of professionalism displayed by the owner, Kevin Chambliss, when he called me and chewed me out one afternoon. We had a plumbing inspection scheduled for a Friday. The ladies in the office made many unsuccessful attempts to contact the inspector to get some idea when he would arrive at our house. They assured me that they would keep trying and would let me know when they heard something. Well, I finally got that call later in the afternoon that the inspector was at my house at that moment, wondering where I was. I was surprised because I didn't get the heads-up I was hoping for. I had left home to run some errands assuming that I would get a call when the inspector was on his way. This is how Chambliss Plumbing had handled business so far (calling in advance when plumber was on his way). All that I could do was rush home, but the inspector was already gone. The ladies in the office expressed their frustration about not being able to make contact with the inspector and assured me it was no big deal to reschedule. Kevin Chambliss then proceeded to call me and scold me like a child for not being home!!! He ranted about how I should have been home, how this is all my fault, and how he would be happy to charge me an extra $270 for re-inspection and prep work. He may have been right about what he said, but his tone was very condescending and he was completely unprofessional. Who calls their customer and acts like that? I was so insulted by Kevin Chambliss that I couldn't finish the conversation with him. I hung up the phone and had my husband deal with him. Apparently Kevin's employees carry a higher standard of professionalism than he does. He should be taking lessons from them. Imagine my surprise when I refer to my Angie's List booklet to find Chambliss Plumbing on the Honor Roll! Wow. The cherry on top is that their add reads, "Treat Others Like You Want to Be Treated." What a joke, Kevin. The ONLY reason I gave this company an "F" for professionalism is because of their owner and role model (NOT) Kevin Chambliss. If I could rate the employees separately, they would receive an "A" for sure.

I am very sorry to have to respond to a complaint like this. Chambliss Plumbing works hard and is committed to good service and a fair cost. I am happy that the customers rated us with “A’s” in price, quality, responsiveness and punctuality. The real issue is with the homeowner not being home to let the plumbing inspector in to approve the work. As the customer states, we have difficulty in reaching plumbing inspectors and having them return our calls. They are not employed by us and we have no control on their schedule. When we did reach the inspector he could only tell us the inspection would be sometime after 12pm. We left a message on the homeowners cell phone at 10:30am informing her of this. We then received a call from the inspector at approximately 1:30pm informing us that no one was home. The inspection failed because he could not get in and we had to call for re-inspection the following Monday. The office then called me (Kevin). I contacted the homeowner to let her know this. She was not happy that the inspector would not come back same day and that there would be a re-inspection fee, as well as, (2) required extra trips by Chambliss Plumbing to disconnect and reconnect the gas meter so they would have hot water for the weekend. I never ranted to her, never raised my voice or scolded her. As evidence by our track record on Angie’s List, it would be out of character for me to behave in that manner. I am, however, concerned that the customer feels I treated her in an unprofessional way and do apologize if she perceived me in that way. We did return to the residence 2 times after the initial call for unrelated issues. There was no charge for these service calls as a courtesy to the homeowner. --Kevin Chambliss Owner of Chambliss Plumbing Company

Overall it was a good experience. The service guy was patient and very through in testing to eliminate possible sources of the leak. His suggestion to fix it did work and the problem was resolved. He was on time and professional. My only complaint is the price. It's not cheap. $90 first 30 minutes and $45 each 30 minutes afterwards. The coupon helped but $249 to cut drywall and play with the faucet running water was a bit much in my opinion. Pure labor in cost. He was there maybe 2 hours. Update: The owner of Chambliss called me after reading my review and said he understood my review and agreed it shouldn't have taken as long to detect the problem which resulted in the high charge. He refunded an hour of labor to me. I was very impressed and thankful that he would take the time to follow up and offer money back. You just don't see that today very often. Great customer service!!
Description of Work: We had a leak coming from the upstairs bathtub that was dripping down to first floor through light fixture. The serviceman stayed until we could reproduce the leak. We had to cut through the wall in a closet to see behind and underneath the tub. It was determined the plumbing was fine and not leaking. The water was coming through bad caulk or tile grout. The solution was to re caulk the bathtub and test for leaks. We did this ourselves and the leak was resolved.

I had been told by another plumbing co that the water pressure coming into my house was higher than it should be. That co. offered to install a PRV for $450. I have used Chambliss in the past so I checked with them and was told they would charge me $350. I called on 10/26/10 and they were able to schedule the job the next day. Josh showed up right on time. As he was digging out the area by the meter, making room to install the PRV, he noticed that I had an old, unusable valve that could be used to shut off the water to my house and sprinkler system. He offered to install a new gate valve. Once he had removed more dirt, he was able to tell me the amount of extra time it would take him to install the gate valve, and was able to tell me the total cost. I thought the cost ($115) was reasonable and asked him to go ahead with that job as well as the PRV. I noticed that I had less water pressure after the PRV was installed. For the most part, it wasn't a problem, but I was concerned when I used the washing machine as it seemed to take a very long time to fill. After a week, I called Chambliss to ask if it was normal for a PRV to cause a significant drop in the flow of water. Renee said she wasn't sure, but would send somebody out to take a look at it. Josh came on the next business day, checked the pressure and volume at all fixtures, and said everything was operating normally. This visit was considered a warranty call and there was no charge. I was very pleased with the work that Josh did and with the way the company responded to my questions. I will definitely use Chambliss again and have recommended them to my neighbors.

Customer was quoted $90.00 for a minimum service call over the phone and was billed for $90.00. She claimed that she was refused a senior discount (10%), but we were never asked for it at the time of the job. We are sending her a check back in the mail for the senior discount. We were also not aware that she was an Angie's List customer, therefore, there was no 5% discount given as it usually would be. Our owner, Kevin, called her after receiving the bad report to see what we could do to make her happy and she told him that she did not know why she gave us B's for responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. We received her service request and were able to give her same say service which she told Kevin that we were on time for. We have done what we can to correct this report and try to make our customer happy just like we would for anyone!

Great job! Far exceeded expectations. Fully advised of the possible inspection problems with the line leak (outside rear fence line) and also new standards for water heaters. Turned out we were grandfathered on the tank vent which is smaller than the new standard. Best plumbers we have dealt with. Really service oriented!

I was surprised at how quickly the service person arrived. He emptied out the water tank and went to get a new one. While he was replacing the new one, his helper spent at least 30 minutes using a wet vac in my closet to get up the water. He gave me the number to call a water extraction service, Coit Services, to see if my carpet would need to be pulled up. I called that company right after the plumber left, and the service person there came out within two hours of my call. I couldn't believe how fast the service was from both of these companies. When Coit arrivied, he told me I didn't need to replace the carpet. I just needed to get a good fan to dry my carpet, and there was no charge for the service visit.
Description of Work: The water heater was leaking and needed to be replaced. The carpet in my closet was soaked with water. The service person arrived within two hours and the work was completed in about two hours. He also used a wet vac in my walk-in closet and recommended a water extraction service to see if the carpet would need to be replaced. Fast, friendly service. Very happy with the response and service this company provided.

We offer free phone quotes, but estimates that require a house call must have a charge because we need to be able to pay for the time that it takes and the gas it also takes to get there. We do take the $45 charge off the top if the work is done by our company, but we cannot give away our time, as we could be doing other work and need to charge on house calls. We are sorry that you feel this isn't fair, but we do take the estimate fee off the top and we try to be able to give the best service we can.

The entire experience was pleasant. Kevin estimated accurately the time it would take to do the work. He arrived on time and was very courteous, knowledgeable, and informative about the product he installed. He was very thorough in the installation, neat and tidy with no messes, and insured that the new system was working properly. In strongly recommend this company for your plumbing needs.
