The contractor's main source of business was from pouring home foundations for home builders, so my work was not mainstream income. For this reason, it took me two months of "pin pricking" to sign a contract for the work. I was extremely satisfied with the outcome, which occurred while I was deployed to Afghanistan for three weeks. (The contractor did not take advantage of me, and even provided me six Polaroid photos before he poured the "turn around.") After the work was finished, the contractor cleaned the areas of debris, and provided me a 12-month guarantee. The owner of the company, Carlos, insisted on 90% payment at contract signing, because of poor payments by residential customers, which were not his preferred clientele. Since I surprised him by offering him $15K instead of his asking price of $10,500, I believe I received value for my money, if not more. (One neighbor actually came to my home and complimented the workmanship.) I very highly recommend this contractor.
Description of Work: The contractor, CVC, provided a turn around circle to my 100 foot long driveway, which lies on a slope of approximately 35 degrees. He poured approximately 35 cubic yards of concrete. Visitors can now turn around without having to drive all the way to the garage, which had been the de-facto front door of the house; now, however, with the concrete turn around, visitors now use our normal front door. The contractor cut an inner and outer edge beam to the rock, which was approximately three feet below the surface (on the outer edge,) and laid steel mesh and #3 steel reinforcement rebar throughout the beam areas. He laid expansion joints and two PVC pipes under the concrete so that we could push wire (for example, for Christmas lights.) The concrete poured was the same as that poured for the original driveway, so the appearance was the same in color & texture. The contractor asked for $10,500, however, I offered to pay $15K, so that there would be no conflicts between profit & quality.
