After my warranty company sent out Element to check this unit a month or so ago and nothing was and quot;wrongand quot; it finally failed. This provider came out on a Sunday, which I am grateful for and alone is worth the money. Changed a capacitor and added some Freon, unit is cooling again.

My central A/C stopped working on a Saturday night--why do these things always fail on a weekend? I was waiting for a callback from Tiger Services who had repaired the unit last October and was still under their one year warranty. The symptoms were the same as last time when they replaced the run capacitor--for $300!! I was mowing my lawn while waiting for them to call me back and a truck from Buenos Diaz Heating and Air Conditioning rolled up and parked next door. Apparently my neighbor had A/C problems as well. I asked the technician to stop by when he finished my neighbor's job. The tech was the owner, Hector Diaz. I explained my problem and my assumption that it was the capacitor which was under warranty from another company. He said a capacitor shouldn't fail so soon and offered to just to check it for me. When I told him what I had paid for the previous repair, he was disgusted at the high price. He said the capacitor was fine and the relay worked when he pressed it. He said he thought he knew what the problem was, so we went up to the main unit in the attic. He pointed to the full drip pan and said my condensate drain was blocked and the level of water in the pan had tripped the safety shut off. He went back to his truck with a nitrogen bottle and blew out the drain and said I should also pour a little bleach down the drain every other month to kill any buildup of gunk. He then showed me where the secondary drain had never been opened by the original installer. He asked if I was handy (I am) and told me what I needed to do to properly set up the secondary drain. We then went back outside and he gave me the parts to do the job! He then showed me how to clean the cooling coils in the outside unit which were badly blocked. He refused any payment for his time or the parts he gave me. I finally had to push $40 into his hand and told him I would write him up on Angie's List.
