Artscapes treated the front and back lawn for weeds and grass1 week prior to starting the project. I was notified in advance before the workers arrived at my home. He removed all plants (except for holly scrubs and saga palm tree) that were previously planted on 3 July 2014 by another local landscaping company. He planted several plants and a tree. So far I am a happy and satisfied customer. The workers were very professional, worked diligently on the project, and completed the job in less than 8 hours. I would highly recommend Artscapes to my family, friends, and co-workers. The owner of Artscapes knew I had a limit budget. The cost of the back lawn was in my price range and the re-planting for my front lawn was affordable.
Description of Work: Artscapes successfully completed a beautiful landscaping design for the back lawn. He planted 2 Mexican palm trees, lilies, and 3 other plants. For the front lawn, he replanted different plants, ground coverings, and a tree. The designed was previously completed by another landscape company last year, July 3, 2014. I wasn't satisfied with the work 30 days later. For the front lawn, he replanted different plants, ground coverings, and a tree. Right from the start of the job It was apparent we were not Mr. James Lawrence's priority. He was on-site no more than 15-20% of the overall job and that mostly due to him working with and attempting to install the irrigation system...a job he is not qualified for nor licensed in the state to perform. He claims his work is all warranted for a year yet from the start the irrigation system would not reach to the end of the line consistently. The yard is approximately 50X70X30 and he only installed one zone - after ten days he sent another licensed irrigation specialist out who said Mr Lawrence had installed the wrong drip valve and should have used more than one zone so we forked out $300 for the new valve and to have his work warranted for a year. Fast forward four weeks and the largest tree planted starts turning brown. We called and sent pictures to James and he said we were over-watering (the recommended once a week for 40 minutes was what we were doing - on a timer). I had two licensed Arborists look at the tree and they discovered the tree had been planted 6" below the soil level with local caliche soil placed on top as well as the hole not being dug wide enough. We continued to call and leave messages with Mr Lawrence - I sent the last text August 31st with a picture of the dead tree and also letting him know that now I cannot use my vegetable box due to no water getting to it but he claims he never got the text. This was only six weeks after he received his final payment. He has since sent yet another irrigation specialist over who says we will never get water to the end of the line unless we pay another $550. I refused and told him to talk to James. To date, I've had the one Mexican hybrid oak, two Rosemary plants and about eight Stella d'oro daisies die - I would have had a philodendron die but I moved it myself to a partial shade spot in the front of the house. It was burning up in the full southern east to west exposure and when I pointed it out to James he said he did not realize that was the exposure there. The entire backyard is full southern east to west exposure. James promised our our dead tree would be replaced this last Frida Sept 19th buthe did not show nor has he returned either of my husband's calls from Sunday the 21st. Our next contact will no doubt be through a lawyer. I have only written three reviews on Angie's List and all of them have been laudatory. Of course we had some minors issues with all of those contractors but overall the experience was positive. But this has been the worst example of unprofessional fraud-like business behavior I've ever seen or dealt with.
Description of Work: Mr. Lawrence had a bare landscape to work with and design a hardscape backyard with synthetic turf, river rock, mulch, trees, plants and a 4X4 raised wood box for vegetable gardening. A drip irrigation system was to be installed to adequately provide coverage.

It is very hard for me to address [member name removed]'s comments. I can say this that at the day of completion [member name removed] recorded a video of how great her landscape looked. The planters she mentioned (that I built for Free: materials and labor) were damaged when I noticed the placement was off. This seemed to start the beginning of her being upset. I did fix that personally. The drip irrigation system definitely was failing but again I paid to have two outside companies to come and do the repairs. Again, I replaced the tree at my expense no questions asked because I felt like it was the honorable thing to do. She has a beautiful landscape that many would suggest is the best in the neighborhood. There is one thing that I have learned from [member name removed] and that is the power of documentation. Clearly, there was some confusion as to warranty and agreed scope of work. Over the years I have diligently tried to spell agreements out in detail and a professional manner. I have since then implemented a third party inspection service for my projects to help quality control and address end user concerns. I appreciate [member name removed]s business and feedback.

We wanted a plan for our landscape to implement in a multi-stage process. The blueprint sized plans provided were very well done, with all the information needed to work with contractors to put in a new driveway, entry way and plant beds.
Description of Work: Designed a landscape plan with both hard scape and plants. Provided blueprints and detailed information.

Workers were prompt and qualified to do all elements except the final installation of the putting green surface. The surface had to be re-installed by a 3rd party. The final work efforts were completed and acceptable.

In Feb 2010 work was initiated and all went according to plan in a timely manner. However, towards the end of the project we lost contact with Mr. Lawrence and it seemed he was busy with other projects which we understood. As time went on, we tried to contact him about completing work which included many plants that weren't delivered and installed, completion of drainage pipe extensions and exchange of a piece of lighting. Also, although the hydromulch was watered daily according to directions and grass began to emerge, it was thinly dispersed and quickly died out.. Mr Lawrence had taken photographs of the grass situation and informed us that he would contact the grass company. We were finally able to arrange a meeting with Mr Lawrence around July 2010. He acknowledged the missing plants and remaining work and agreed to complete the project. Also, plants were not arranged as agreed upon and documented in Mr Lawrence's diagram. We never heard from him again and phone calls and emails to his office remained unanswered. Unfortunately, we had paid in full before the project was completed. We estimated that there was about $1400.00 worth of plants and work remaining.
Description of Work: Around Jan 2010, I contacted Mr. Lawrence for an estimate on establishing a yard at our newly constructed home. The estimate was reasonable and he appeared very professional and honest. We agreed to pay him around $17,000 to establish a yard with buffalo grass, plants, drainage pipes, a retaining wall and outdoor lighting.

very good - recommend
Description of Work: James and his crew provided excellent service. They filled in a garden that had sunk, put down new rock, additional plantings, and a privacy fence. They were efficient, polite, and did a fine job. In addition, they cleaned up the existing palms and other plantings, and even cleaned up the whole yard! It was such a nice surprise to come home to - espcially since I am not at all a yard guy. I'd definitely recommend James - he was very knowledgeable about plantings that would work in our location, and he was able to help me figure out what plantings would work with my desired level of maintenance.

This project started on Monday, October 17th and is 98% complete to this date, October 24th, 2011. The only remaining items on the list that need to be completed is to change out the current light bulbs to LED lights (LED lights last an average of 5 years in comparison to 1 to 2 years with the standard outdoor light bulb) and to mount the control box for the outdoor lighting system to the house. James Williams is a consummate professional. He was the first landscaper that I met with. I had interviewed 5 landscapers and received bids from four total. This company only works on one job at a time. They are very clean when working and leave nothing behind after each day's work. I was provided with a complete detailed list of all the plants that comprised my xeriscape. This list provided all the information that I needed to care for each plant. I am very pleased with the work that was performed and would highly recommend this company for anyone doing a major landscape overhaul. You won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: Removed existing grass & salvia greggi (in front flower bed) - Prepped and graded. Laid commercial grade lawn fabric. Created boulder retaining wall. Placed nicotine chop block to define borders between property lines. Laid crushed granite, mulch and pebble rock. Planted draught & deer resistant plants. Modified existing irrigation system to properly water new xeriscape. Placed four spot and six path lights for outdoor lighting design (upgraded to bronze fixtures).

They were terrific. They were prompt and very fair as far as their quote was concerned. They worked with us and came back several times to make sure that we were pleased with the way the lighting was being directed. They also cut the price on the landscaping plan they gave us once they had completed the lighting. Their price was very fair and the quality of work was very good. They were punctual and professional.
Description of Work: The landscaping company did a professional lighting job for the land that we own and drew up a landscaping plan for us.

UNFORTUNATELY HIS REQUEST WAS DURING A TIME OF GROWTH TRANSITION AND BECAUSE OF THE HIGH DEMAND FOR OUR SERVICES. WE SIMPLY WERE NOT ABLE TO FOLLOW UP AS QUICKLY AS WE WOULD HAVE LIKE BECAUSE WE COULD NOT FIND THE PRODUCT. IN ADDITION THE PRODUCT HE WAS REQUESTING WAS VERY UNIQUE AND WE COULD NOT PROVIDE WHAT HE NEEDED BECAUSE WE COULD NOT FIND THE PRODUCT TO GIVE HIM A WELL INFORMED AND EDUCATED ESTIMATE WITH SPECIFICATION AND QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT.

Artscapes was the only one of five companies who bid on the job that took the trouble to set up a demo so we could see what the lighting would look like at night. We had a couple of minor issues with bad bulbs that James was quick to address even when it required him coming out late in the evenings. The house looks beautiful and we intend to have Artscape come out again and install some landscape lighting.
Description of Work: We hired James Lawrence (Artscapes) to install some architectural lighting at our home.
