water softeners

As I said, we were given an in-home demonstration on 27 September 2008. The demonstrator, Wendy McPhee, was very nice & seemed quite knowledgeable about the product. She told us that if we purchased the water softener by the end of the day, we'd get a special price. But we had to make a decision by 5 p.m. It was obvious that she was "pushing" us to buy. However, we had been talking about getting a water softener for some time, and what convinced us we should buy from Aquafuzion were (1) the health benefits as demonstrated by Ms. McPhee (my husband and I are both senior citizens with health issues), and (2) the fact that we could get it installed right away. Ms. McPhee quoted us a price of $7,998, and then gave us a $2,000 discount because we offered to pay cash for it in full before installation. The following day (a Sunday), three "plumbers" showed up to install the unit. The supervisor was a man named Alex Cruz. Neither one of his "helpers" spoke English, so he did all the talking to us. They installed part of the unit under our kitchen sink, drilled a hole in the sink & installed a faucet there for the water, and installed the main unit in our garage. All of this work was completed in approximately one hour. Mr. Cruz gave us an operating manual and several boxes of soap before they left. About a month after the unit was installed, it started making a loud "knocking" sound whenever we used the washing machine, washed dishes, or took baths & showers. The noise was definitely coming from the unit, and running through our plumbing system. I even tracked its path to an outdoor faucet on the front of our house, where you could hear it very loud. My husband called Aquafuzion's San Antonio office & asked them to come look at it. They came several times, but were never able to figure out what was wrong with it. One time we couldn't get the unit to make the noise we were hearing (even by turning on the washing machine AND the kitchen faucet), so the plumber said he'd send someone else later in the week. After calling Aquafuzion many times and getting no resolution to our problem, we got fed up with them. We kept getting the runaround from the office, being told someone would come, having to leave messages, etc. One day when the noise was very bad, I even VIDEOTAPED it with sound to show the repair person they would send to the house. (I still have the video.) Several months later, we noticed that our water pressure was getting lower and lower. We could get only a trickle of water from faucets, and it would take 3 or 4 times the usual length of time to fill the washer or a bathtub. I called Chambliss Plumbing (referred by Angie's List) to look at the problem. Two men came out -- a plumber & his helper -- and they were very courteous & fixed the problem for a good price. However, the plumber took one look at our water softener and told me it had been installed wrong. He said the incorrect installation was likely the source of our decreasing water pressure. I told him about our horrendous experience with Aquafuzion & even showed him the video, which he said confirmed it had not been installed properly. He said he could not fix the water softener because his company (Chambliss) had not installed it, but he could disconnect it with my permission. I gave him permission to disconnect it; then he fixed our plumbing. We have not had a plumbing problem since then, & I have recommended Chambliss to others. We called Aquafuzion several times & told them we wanted them to fix the water softener, or give us a discount & have them take it away. We never got an answer, and we got so tired of their unresponsiveness that we quit trying to contact them. My husband and I both still work & we don't have the time to chase them down every day. (Our health issues have become worse in the past 2 years.) We took proper care of the unit from the time it was installed until I gave Chambliss permission to disconnect it. I gave permission to disconnect ONLY because I was told the unit was interfering with our water pressure & the plumber from Chambliss advised it. We did not move ANY of the unit's parts -- they are still where Aquafuzion's plumber installed them. We were told by Aquafuzion's demonstrator, Ms. McPhee, that the company guaranteed its product "forever." She wrote that word on the price comparison sheet, which I still have. Also, the price comparison sheet says Aquafuzion will provide a "110% [not 100%, but 110%] Price Guarantee. Ms. McPhee said the company would fix anything that went wrong with the equipment -- even move it for us (at a small cost) and re-connect it if we moved from our house -- or give us our money back if we decided we didn't want it anymore, or it wasn't working properly. I understand that work was performed on the unit by contracted installers, who must (and should) be paid by Aquafuzion. However, since (1) we paid CASH IN FULL for the product at the time we purchased it, (2) it was installed wrong, (3) we were advised that the incorrect installation caused other plumbing problems, (5) we had to disconnect it to restore our water pressure (and pay another company to do this), (6) we never moved any of the equipment, and above all, (7) Aquafuzion has, despite all of our attempts to get them to fix the system, virtually washed their hands of us, we should get a good portion of our money back. We no longer want the unit. We no longer want to do business with Aquafuzion. We would like at least $5,000 of our money back, and we would like Aquafuzion to come pick up the equipment that was installed. Thank you for your help. Description of Work: We had an in-home demonstration showing that our water was very hard & decided to purchase the unit. We got a big discount because we paid cash IN FULL. Three men (who were contracted by the company) came out the next day -- a SUNDAY -- and installed one part of the unit under the kitchen sink, drilled a hole in the kitchen sink for the soft water spigot, and installed the big unit in our garage. They also gave us boxes of various kinds of soap to use with it.

I was visited by a rep offering to test our water..and showing Data on the GE Pro Elite water contioner they were selling. Needing a water softener, we "bargained" for a couple of hours. They were offering the conditioner and a reverse osmosis system. I rejected them outright due to a very high price and eventually they accepted my bottom priced for the conditioner only completely installed--my house is new but not pre-plumbed. We signed for 12 months interest free financing and the install was scheduled for for 12/5. Hoever, the local principle called tonight, the night before the install, saying there was a problem with one of the finance companies but another was OK with it(???) --he kept beating around the bush about what the he wanted and I finally said let's cancel. He accepted without any hesitation. If there was a problem with financing or information I should have been contacted by the next day--not 3 days later. I question this company 's serousness and professionalism.
Description of Work: A price was agreed 12/1/09 and install scheduled for 12/5/09 for a GE Pro Elite water contioner...did not proceed.
