Manuel Aguayo has been my husband's handyman for 15 years. We were trying to sell the house and needed some work done. Manuel said he could put bamboo flooring down, but he needed $5000 to purchase materials and pay for labor. He showed up a week later with 5 guys who did not speak English - which turned out to be a problem later on. Various times throughout the job, we pointed out gaps that were appearing in the flooring. He said it would be fine and they would be fixed upon completion of the project.During the course of the project, my husband noticed that one of his $400 bottles of scotch was missing and several others were almost empty. He confronted the workers about it and the missing bottle was returned the next day. Later, Manuel suggested that we should paint the trim, because the trim and the flooring did not match. He asked for another $5600 to purchase materials. When they painted the trim, not only did they use latex paint on top of oil based paint (Which you are not supposed to do), we also found fingerprints in the paint job. Manuel then stated that he wanted another $7000 for materials and labor for the paint job! We took him on a tour of the house, and showed that work was still incomplete. In the middle of my husband telling him what still needed to be done, he grabbed his saw and walked out. We have not been able to get a hold of him since. The cost was over 2 times what he originally stated. We had asked Manuel for receipts to prove his purchases. He kept making excuses as to why he kept forgetting the receipts. He finally gave us a receipt for the entirety of the project for $10,600 with his signature, but this isn't what we wanted. We wanted receipts showing he had purchased materials. It is really sad because we trusted this guy and he left us hanging. We have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. We have made several attempts to contact Manuel, but he does not return our call. No other contractor will come and fix the flooring because they did not install it. They want to rip off the entire floor and install a new one.
Description of Work: They installed a bamboo floor in the kitchen, hallway, game-room. They also painted the trim-work inside the house and the shutters.

Response from AGUAYO REMODELING
I, Manuel Aguayo, have done all of the member's repair work for over 15 years, as he has stated, and have never had a problem of any kind until now. In regards to the job in question, he has refused for me or any of my laborers to complete the job. In regards to the flooring, I was paid the agreed price of $10,600., which included labor and materials. I have receipts to verify the costs for my expenses. In regards to the painting of the interior trim and cabinets, which he asked us to do after the floor was installed; I have yet to get paid for that job. I paid for material and labor out of my pocket for the extras he was asking for, and have not received that payment from him. I have never refused to finish the job at hand, and in many instances I have tried to work with him to complete the job. For example, on Sunday, June 29, 2008, the member called me about some minor touch ups that he was questioning. I gladly showed up and fixed everything that he had found faulty. The following day, Monday June 30, 2008, I returned to his house, and he informed me that he had found minor details on the trim work which I was more than happy to fix. He agreed that 2 of my workers and I would come back on July 2, 2008 to finish the job. Later that same day, I received a call from him confirming the time and date we would be back to finish the job. Upon my arrival to complete the job, on the set date of July 2, 2008, I came upon a very aggressive and disgruntled member. He informed me that he did not want me or my workers on his property; therefore I was unable to complete the job as requested. Like I have stated before, I have never refused to finish the job. The member had denied us the opportunity to complete the job.
