They were pretty good. They were professional and knowledgeable. They fixed part of it, but then another part started to leak. Then they fixed again, but it is starting to leak more. They say that it is just because the sink is very old and it simply is going to leak. It is a good company, but I wish they would have know n before I spent $200.
Description of Work: They fixed a leaky faucet.

When I called the office staff was friendly and set my appointment, the handyman Mike came promptly for the estimate and I was impressed how thorough and knowledgeable he was. The work was done and there was plenty of opportunity for me to understand what was being done. I will use this company again and I am pleased to recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: The bottom of my kitchen sink was rotten, my handyman Mike found the root of the problem was a leak coming from the faucet. He replaced the wood and replaced the faucet.

Response from Ace Handyman Services San Antonio
We apologize this was human error, we realized that our first scheduled appointment with customer was in jeopardy as an earlier appointment started to run long and we couldn't arrive at her friday appointment on time. The office called customer and apologized rescheduling to Saturday. Our office is closed both Saturday and Sunday, but we were trying to assist her quickly. Our craftsman is new to our dispatch system and didn't realize he had multiple assignments and overlooked this estimate. On monday morning I spoke to customer and apologized for the mistake and offered another appointment at her convenience. She declined. We do try to provide professionalism in all situations, as other comments from customers indicate and we also pride ourselves with giving all customers our best quality service.

That same evening, the assigned handy man called, introduced himself as Jerry, and confirmed he would be out Thursday evening at 4:30 to replace my shingle. I told him I had the replacement shingle and a tube of roof cement, so nothing additional would be required. Thursday morning a person from the office (maybe the head honcho) called and said he and Jerry were concerned about walking on my roof with the soaring temperatures we have been having (110-deg range) since heated shingles could easily break, causing me even more problems. He suggested Jerry could come by early Friday morning (7:30) if it was OK with me. I agreed readily and thanked him for considering the possibility of more damage to my roof in the hot weather. At 7 Friday morning, I stepped out the front door to take my dog for her morning constitutional and saw Jerry in front of my house preparing to take his ladder off the truck. I took the dog back inside (we went for a walk after Jerry left) and volunteered the use of my ladder that I had brought up earlier to save his time. He accepted my offer, took the camera I provided to take a photo of the hole, and went to work. He replaced the shingle in no time and came down. I told him I did have another chore to work on to finish the hour and showed him the dishwasher and explained what I had done. "I just need a professional to drill the holes in a straight line and screw in the provided screws," I said confidently. However Jerry found that the new wood trim I had added pushed too far down on the door, preventing a tight closure. After some discussion and work, we decided to push the dishwasher a little further back and attach the screws to the underside of the counter itself, rather than the lip. I found some smaller screws, and Jerry finished the job. The dishwasher was still flush with the counter, and it was straight and steady. I was pleased with the outcome of Jerry's visit. I gave him the Angie's List coupon and a check for one hour of his time, I try to do most of this type of work myself, but I plan to use Handyman Matters whenever the occasion arises that I can't or don't want to perform. Considering the experience I had with this company, I expect I'll have more of the latter that i used to.
Description of Work: When I moved into a new home, several service personnel told me I had a worn shingle caused by a tree limb rubbing the roof. I am not comfortable with steep-pitched roofs, even one story, so I delayed repairing it, thinking I would get around to it sooner or later. After some rain, I decided to have it repaired. I called several handy-men agencies on Angie's List and decided I liked the professionalism with which the receptionist of Handy Man Matters answered my inquiries. After confirming that my Angie's List coupon would eliminate the $40 service fee, I made an appointment for a technician to come out. The receptionist, and she was more than simply a phone answerer, told me that I would be charged a minimum of one hour, and she believed that a simple shingle replacement would take only about 20 minutes and asked if I had any other small chores that needed to b taken care of while Jerry was there. Of course, I did, and I thought this was a great time to have another chore taken care of. In our new home, the dishwasher had worn out one of the attached screw holes, allowing the dishwasher to move on one side. I had done some earlier repair work, filling the torn-out wood substitute under thecounter with wood filler and gluing a small strip of wood under the counter lip to ensure a firm fit. I thought it would take only a few minutes for a pro to drill and screw the dishwasher brads to the renovated counter lip. An exellent filler job, I thought.

Steven did great work. I could not imagine any way the job could have been done any better.
Description of Work: I wanted to update some outdoor lighting to use LED fixtures. Steven came by and did the work perfectly, even though the old fixtures were hard to remove, the electrical junction boxes were corroded, and the old hardware was in sad condition. He was able to deal with all of these challenges quickly, efficiently, and professionally, and soon had the new lights installed and working.

Steve was friendly, personable and spent time and effort working out the details. He said that is why he likes the work--every job is a new puzzle. We were very pleased with the results and the cost. The final cost was a few dollars less than the quote. Kudos to Steve and Handyman Matters. We would absolutely use them again.
Description of Work: We had two projects. First was the Morgan shed in our backyard that had a leak and some rotten wood as a result. Second was a large wooden structure around half of our patio. It had latticework on four sides. It was leaning due to having had a wisteria climb on it that became very large and strong, and had made the whole structure lean.It also had 4 or 5 overhead boards that were warped and in danger of falling down. Although we liked it we had thought the only thing to do was tear it down. Steve came out and looked at the problems. He took a few days to come up with a plan. He called us a couple of times and let us know where he was in the process. At first he planned to use a large iron pole as a brace but found that was too costly and spent some time looking for a more reasonable price which we appreciated. Handyman Matters then called with a quote which we felt was reasonable based on the items needed to complete the project plus the labor. Steve came out on 3 different days and completed the project. He fixed the leak, caused by a window. Which he replaced and he also replaced the rotten wood. He put caulking around the new window he installed He used 2 small iron rods to brace the wooden structure and replaced the overhead two by fours.

Very pleasant experience! My mother's kitchen cabinets were coming apart so we contacted Handyman Matters to give an estimate. They came out to give the estimate that they emailed within 2 days. We scheduled the work for two weeks after we received the estimate. Steven was punctual and completed the job in record time and way under what the estimate was for (time and budget!).We couldn't be happier with the work and plan to have them bid on other projects we need done at my mother's house and my house.

They gave me a quote of $3,600 to remove about 400 SF of Tile and install about 800 SF of tile, stain and install 350 LF of base and stain/paint and install 2 doors and hardware. Told me it would take a week to complete all the work. They arrived late on Monday morning (2/27/12), on Tuesday the worker (Brad) was in an accident on his way to the job site. Thursday they had a guy go over and work for a few hours, Brad came back to work on Saturday and worked until the following Saturday. At this time I was told that they had other jobs and that they would be gone for 2 weeks and then they would be back. They were less than half way done at this time. They came back to work on 3/26 and worked for another 2 weeks without completing the job. On 4/7 Brad told me he would be back on Monday and that I would have to get with the owner of the company to see about getting the work complete. I talked to Walter on Monday 4/9 and I told him at this point I was ready to hire a new contractor to finish up the work and correct their mistakes. He asked that I let him talk to Brad 1st and then he would call me back. When he called back we agreed that I would hire someone else to finish the work and take what I paid them out of what I owed them. Of the work that was done, I would have to say that the majority of it was unsatisfactory. The base board that they stained, they just put the stain on, but didn't wipe it off, so it doesn't even come close to matching what was existing in the house. The joints in the tile are off and don't match existing. There are tiles that are high. They didn't complete all the base board and didn't install the 2 doors and hardware. As of today I have been unable to get all the work done in my house and have pretty much given up. I have spent over $2,300 on the work that the second contractor has done, but again the work was unsatisfactory. I don't feel that I should have to pay Handyman Matters anything since they didn't complete the job and left me high and dry twice. As you can tell I had a very bad experience with them and am very upset.
Description of Work: Removed about 400 SF of tile. Installed about 800 SF of tile. Stained 300 LF of base board and installed it.

$3,600

Response from Ace Handyman Services San Antonio
Member asked that we complete work begun by someone else. We estimated the labor at $3,600 and Ms. Hiatt was providing all material. To date, Member has made no payments to our company. As mentioned, our craftsman was involved in a vehicle accident just after starting the project. He spent one night in the hospital and lost one week of work. We were not able to adjust our overall schedule of work enough to keep him at Member’s continuously. I spoke with Member about this and we agreed on a path forward. The baseboard work was completed and the tile work was completed. The week of April 9 the craftsman left our employ. Member told me she was not satisfied with the work and wanted to hire another contractor. I agreed to step aside. Member and I further agreed that the invoice from the next contractor would be deducted from our $3,600 estimate and she would pay us the difference. Again, to date Member has made no payments to our company. I have apologized several times to Member and do so again for our less than stellar service in completing her project. Steven is very polite and good with animals. He is neat as far as cleaning up after himself etc. He is professional and knowledgeable on any kind of handyman needs. At one point I felt he was stretching out the time but I told the company that I would get the solar light myself so that it would be cheaper for me. (it would add more money for him to buy it) Overall, he has been very helpful by answering questions, and informing me of what my part would be. For example, he told methat I could turn on the backyard solar light myself in five days. He explained how that would work. Yes, it would save me some money also. Jeff was a very determined handyman. Every time he came he said, "It will be fixed!" The gate was not opening or shutting and hefixed it. Also, the light bulb was stuck deep in the socket and he said he would take care of it with no problems! He worked quickly and got the jobs done.
Description of Work: I have used Handyman Matters on numerous occasions. The last time Steven came and cleaned the gutters and hooked upa solar light for the back yard. Before that time he has power washed my driveway and worked on the sidewalk lighting. Another man named Jeff came and worked on outside lighting, fixed my backyard gate, removed a light bulb that was stuck in the socket(kitchen stove).

The people were very friendly and the service was quality and quick. Overall good service however they were supposed to get me a bid on additional work for 3 other items and after repeated phone calls still failed to provide me with a bid. Price is not bad but the trip fee of $40 can make a small repair expensive so I would recommend that you have them do a number of repairs at one time to mitigate this fee.

I called probably a half dozen companies that morning, trying to find somebody who could come in and do the work that day. This company was able to send a repairman after hours (around 7 p.m.) to assess the damage. Including a trip to Lowes for the parts, he was done by 9 p.m. -- and didn't charge us "golden time" for the repairs. He was quick and courteous -- I would definitely use this company again for anything I want done around the house.

I had purchased a voucher for this project and was extremely pleased from start to finish. I appreciated the e-mail coordination by Denise from the campany. I have used Handyman Matters for another project since this first very good experience with the company. My cost for supplies was about $260 and was separate from the labor cost of $240.
Description of Work: Craftsman Stephen installed a stove exhaust vent over a cooking stove, continued through the attic, and finished with a cap on the exterior wall of the building. This last part was high ladder work. He selected all the materials I needed at a retail store, phoned me to pay the charges, and took the supplies to my dwelling for installation.

I was very happy with their work. The problem is I have now had it redone just over a year later because it didn’t last. They were great at that time as far as being responsive, cooperative, and friendly. I didn’t have any issues with them or being concerned about having them in my home or that kind of thing. I thought their price was very fair at that time, but now that it didn’t last and I have essentially spent the same amount of money again to have the work redone I am not as happy. In terms of customer service, I am happy with them. I concluded that with a challenging job in a particular area, I needed a specialist. The whole thing when I asked for the door to be done is that I needed a nice durable finish on it because it gets direct western sun exposure, so I needed them to identify whatever the best finish that would have been. The finish completely burned off essentially in less than a year, and I have now had the door redone by a professional painting company. It looks beautiful, and I am hopeful that it will last this time. The gentleman who did the work showed up early and stayed late. Initially, they told me it would be a 2-day job. He stayed late and got it all done in 1 day and that sort of thing. I felt like they were really customer focused. I will use them again in the future.

They did a great job with the work. He gave a lot of information while he was working. A gate in the back yard was not usable and he fixed that for me. He was a very nice guy. The only thing that I wasn't too pleased about is that he suggested that he come back after doing most of the work because he needed a small part for the drywall work that he didn't have on him. He did charge me an extra $40.00 fee for coming back to finish the work which I was not expecting. If it weren't for that, I would have given an "A" overall grade.

The main office was quick about scheduling someone to come out for an estimate and we had the numbers in print within 24 hours. Steven (our handyman) was friendly and professional and did a great job. A couple of unexpected issues came up with the doors and he took them in stride and in a cost-efficient manner. The siding repairs look great and he even fixed our gate locks while he was here. It was an all-around good experience and we will definitely contact them on upcoming projects.
