Once we decided to be rid of the 11-year-old carpet in our master bathroom and get a COMPLETE remodel, we started contacting contractors off Angie's List. After meeting with three of them, we settled the job with Hamilton Interior. (The only thing we kept was the bath tub! But with new tiles around, and a tub skirt with deck!) For our very first appointment, Craig came on time and spent over an hour with us. He listened to our intentions and our questions, helped us with ideas on design and told us how to get materials on our own and do some of the basic things (like painting) to save us money. We were very impressed with his suggestions and were pleased to see how excited he was already about making our bathroom look great! Through the whole project, Craig was very professional, very patient and flexible. At times, we had to wait for parts/materials to arrive (because of the wrong shipping etc.). There were also times when we had some last-minute changes of plan (switching material, color, size...). Craig was always very accommodating. The workmanship of Craig and his crew was at the highest level! Craig himself works on the projects, unlike some of the other contractors we had met with who hire other people to do the job. He is very knowledgeable and experienced. Vinson, our tile guy, does a beautiful and meticulous job! He did our whole bathroom floor, shower walls, tiles around the bathtub, AND backsplash in the kitchen. We chose to go with the more contemporary look by using 12X24in tiles for our bathroom floor. Anyone who knows anything about tiles would know that the bigger size the tiles, the harder the job. Vinson's work was like a piece of art. Matter of the fact, we initially were ONLY going to do the master bathroom. However, after seeing the tiles Vinson laid in the master bathroom the first day, we decided to go ahead and get the kitchen countertops replaced so Craig and Vinson can put in the backsplash for us. We are VERY pleased with our decision and we are extremely happy with the outcome. Craig and his people were always punctual. They would always let us know what to expect from one day to the next. Before they put the tiles in, Craig would sit down with us, "map out" the layout together with us and made sure that we liked it before they proceeded. Because of the scope of the job and the many parties involved at different point (with shower glass people, countertop people), Craig was always thoughtful about the timing of the installations so as not to let us have more inconvenience (of losing the use of cooktop, kitchen faucet, rangehood, etc.) than it was absolutely necessary. Not only Craig is a great craftman who cares about the outcome of his job, he is also a very professional business man. Before, during, and after the project, he gave us clear written-out estimates line by line, item by item, and followed through with each installments of payments with paper work. A week after the whole project was done, he called us just to check on if everything is working well... We truly LOVE our brand new master bathroom and our kitchen. Thank you, Craig and Vinson! For any future remodeling job of ours, you will be called!

See above. I was smart enough NOT to hire him. I thought because he was mentioned on Angie's list that he was good. However, I learned that you still have to do your homework. Sometimes, being on Angie's gives them more work then they can handle. Then, they get really, really bad! Be careful!
Description of Work: I wanted to remodel my master bath and kitchen as well as get the exterior trim painted and replace some termite damaged siding. It took many tries to actually get him to come out. Then, when he started in with his advice on the bath, he was talking about me buying the tub ( did I want a skirted or something else tub), he told me what kind of fixtures I needed to buy. Gave me an idea of the kinds of trim I wanted and where to buy it. Actually, I was to pick out everything and have it delivered. He would do the demo. Then, I think he would do the tile work and have someone do the paint. He told me I had to get a good plumber because he didn't know any plumber who was decent. He and his crew could do the rough in, but a licensed plumber had to do the actual work. That upset me because it sounded like he was just going to be the "handy man." I was not looking for the cheapest way to do this. I was looking for someone to do a quality job. I later found a company to do just that. I have no idea what Craig thought I wanted, but obviously he had no clue what that was. His exterior paint estimate was almost twice what a professional paint company would actually do. I guess he was adding in his "finders' fee." I later heard some very very negative comments from another contractor who used to recommend him. About damaging a customer's property when he was doing a remodel. I asked Craig for an estimate as soon as possible since it had taken a couple of months to get him out to my house. He said he would send pictures, etc. I finally got an illegible "copy of a fax" on my bath a few days later and then a day after that got another illegible, emailed copy of a fax. Weird. When I asked for pictures like he had promised, I never heard from him again. I have had my same email address for over 10 years. I also provided him with my cell phone. I have had that phone number for since 2003. I never heard anything from Craig Hamilton again. When I got other paint and siding estimates I learned that he was well over $1000 over any other estimate. I wouldn't recommend him to remodel my dog's house.

The man was very cordial and helpful. He really couldn?t have been nicer! He spent an hour with me going over the details of the project. He even gave me recommendations for additional work I was looking into. I ended up selling the home and didn?t follow through with the project, though I would certainly consider him for future work.

We have been completely satisfied with Craig's work, professionalism, promptness to our inquiries and overall attention to detail. We have already recommended him to family members who saw his work and were impressed. A great experience. So glad we used Angie's List.

The replacement of these doors went extremely well. The old doors were skillfully and carefully removed. No damage was made to the surrounding house structure. The new doors were put in place with skillful use of basic materials to fill in the gaps since the new doors were standard sizes where the old doors were not. The openings where only void for a short period of time, enabling me to turn the air conditioning back on quickly. The crew arrived on time and was very thorough in cleaning up once the job was done.
Description of Work: I had all four exterior doors replaced by Craig. Old doors were removed and new custom ordered doors where installed with appropriate modifications to the openings.

.The reason I hired Craig Hamilton of Hamilton Interiors as a contractor was to supervise and see that these jobs were done properly. The price would have been acceptable had he taken this responsibility.. He has not acknowledge my requests to discuss how to get this corrected. As of 9.13.2010 1. Craig Hamilton did not respond to my 7.28.10 email asking about what to do with these problems. 2. The textured ceiling in the shower was an unexpected event and the small crack became entire ceiling repair. 3. At the touch up visit Craig instructed the painter and left and did not return, so I would not have been able to tell him all was fine. 4. Craig instructed me to buy the gallon of oil based "alkyd" paint for the five doors with trims, crown molding, base boards, and three window sills, in my bedroom and bath, because the existing paint on woodwork was oil based and latex does not adhere to this kind of paint "see description of work." He was not here when the painting took place. So I do not know how he can say it was applied to all woodwork. I have this unused gallon of oil based paint on a shelf because latex paint was used. 5. Craig?s comments about the elderly and memory is a cheap shot at the elderly population. Yes I told him to take the curtain rods down, fill the nail holes, but I did not tell him to throw them away. 6. I hired him because of the good member reports. Maybe those jobs had better workers or supervision. 7. I would welcome the correcting of these problems, and would then change this report.
Description of Work: Painting bathroom and bedroom. My ratings are based on these situations. Popcorn on ceiling in 3 x 6 shower was supposed to be removed and replaced. Not all popcorn was removed before reapplying which left 3 - 2 in x 2 ft. strips lumped on ceiling. An unsuccessful cover up was attempted and not painted. Latex paint was painted over oil based paint on doors and all trim Two paint stores have advised me that the latex will peel off and several steps will be needed to repaint. The gallon of oil based paint I purchased remained unused. The brackets for three decorative rods are missing.

this job was completed two months ago and I have not heard from the customer after completion. The textured ceiling over the shower area was thrown on us the day we showed up to do the job and was not included in the origanal bid.We came back a second time to do touch ups and she said all was fine. The customer bought a gallon of oil base paint for very little trim and one door which goes a long way. Which was applied to all woodwork. The curtain rods we were told to remove them and fill the holes which we did.I'm sorry if she can not remember things for I do alot of work for the elderly and our main goal on every job is to make sure that the customer is totally satisfied with or work.See other reports...

We are very pleased with our new shower stall. We have more room than we did before even though no walls were moved. The old shower stall was installed with thick mud and curved mud cap tiles. Craig put wonder board on the studs, sealed it well, and that way he could use surface cap tile which gave us almost an inch extra of space. It may not sound like much, but when you add that to the narrower curb and the niches, the whole effect is much roomier. Craig also installed a foot wide line of multi-colored glass tile going up the back wall.
Description of Work: Craig remodeled the shower stall in our master bathroom. The existing stall was removed down to the studs. Craig worked with us on the tile we picked, the placement of the tile, the height of the shower head (it was raised up), the tiled niches to hold shampoo bottles, and the drain fitting. We got the tile from various sources because we wanted to pick all of that out ourselves, but Craig made sure we got the correct shapes and color matches. The glass trim tile we used was the hardest part of the job because it had to make straight line, but Craig pulled it off. Craig recommended another company to put in the new shower door. We will make a report on that separately. (They did well.)

Job went great. Hamilton paid attention to details and everything is finished to our satisfaction. We encounterd some delays, but it was result of our not receiving the bathroom sinks from the manufacture when promised. We have since engaged Hamilton to do work on the home's exterior.
Description of Work: Remodeled master bath and bedroom. Installed new tub, fixtures, wall tile and flooring, retextured ceilings, new base and crown trim, painted walls, ceilings and trim, installed and painted all new interior doors and installed replacement windows in master bath. High cost includes cost of materials purchased by us. Cost of labor estimated by Hamilton was right on. Any extra was due to our needing addtional unplanned work done.

I had a bid from another company, but they wanted me to go to different dealers and purcose the materials myself. I did not like this. I appreciated that Mr. Hamilton explained everything to me and was flexible about dividing the job into two parts. He did a wonderful job removing the railings and replacing them. The wholesale firm was also very halpful. I was impressed with how quickly the men worked and how neat they left everything. They obviously worked well together and did not waste time. Since i am retired, I was home during the day they worked. My only minor criticism would be that they played loud music while they worked. This did NOT bother me at all, but it might offend some people. I'm sure the music would have been turned off if I had asked, but I think I should have been asked at the beginning. This was definitely not an issue for me, but it sould probably be handled when they work when the homeowner is present. I know that most of the time they are working in an empty house. I could not be happier with my florr and stairs, and I look forward to getting the bedrooms done when the money is avilable. Hamilton Interiors will get that job too.
Description of Work: Mr. Hamilton first measured the floors and then sent me to the wholesale flooring company to pick out the wood flooring. They were very patient and sent me home with samples to match to the wall panel. I selected my choice, and Mr. Hamilton emailed me the proposed costs. Because price was an issue, he figured the job in two sections so that I could do half now and the other half later. I opted to do the stairs and hall now,and the bedrooms later. We settled on a timeframe and the flooring was ordered. Mr. Hamilton called me when the flooring arrived at the wholesaler and scheduled a date to deliver the materials, 3 days prior to installation so that the wood could aclimate to the temperature and humidity in my house. I paid for the materials when they were delivered. On the day of installation, the three installers arrived at 7:30 a.m. They removed the iron and wood railing of the staircase and then the carpet. They set up their saw outside, which was nice. The floor of the hall was installed first, then the stairs. They finished by 3:00 p.m. I paid the balance of my bill after inspecting everything. I was advised to walk on the stairs carefully that evening, avoiding the end caps. They left every cleaner than they found it. The stair and balcony railings were reinstalled more securely than they had been originally, which was nice.

The price reflects a $720 charge for additional plumbing work needed (see step 2 above). Once they demolished everything, they found that the existing pipe needed to be replaced. The work took longer than we expected, but Craig was there most days and was very helpful any time we had questions. He always took time out of his schedule to explain the progress. He also scheduled the install of a frameless glass door for us. Overall, we are very pleased and would not hesitate to use this company again.
Description of Work: 1) Rip out old bathtab, shower valve, wall tile, and dropped ceiling 2) Chip into foundation to fix about 2 feet of bent/clogged cast iron plumbing pipe. Replace w/ PVC. 3) Install new shower components: 12" travertine on walls/ceiling, 2" stone on floor, 6" travertine for inserts in shower wall 4) Install frame and tile for triangular shower bench 5) Grout and seal

The glass in our center patio french door shattered from a rock flying out from my lawn mower. The wood around the doors was rotting, so we decided to have the entire 3-panel unit replaced. All units this size have to be custom ordered. Hamilton's price for materials was actually cheaper than Home Depot and Lowe's, but better quality. They showed up the day/time they promised, and replaced the exterior framing with concrete boards (better quality than what we had originally) to prevent more rotting in the future. I would certainly call on Hamilton exterior again next time we have door or window needs.
Description of Work: Repaced patio doors and exterior door to garage
Craig was called, provided an estimate within a week or two. His team appeared on the job site on time and every day. He and his team completed the project when he said they would. They worked over the last weekend to accomplish this. Craig has done 4 projects for me. The quaility of the work is ALWAYS top notch.
Description of Work: Craig widened doors, removed a tub and converted to shower, removed wallpaper textured and painted two bathrooms, moved some electrical, performed plumbing work, painted several rooms, removed a closet to expand a room.

Craig and his crew came over and measured, talked with us about what we wanted to do, made suggestions, estimated the time to completion, and gave us a detailed bid. Out of four bids, theirs was the best, and we were also impressed with their apparent professionalism and know-how. They kept on schedule and took great pride in their work. Craig would briefly explain what they were doing as we went along, and the final result exceeded our expectations. Fantastic!
Description of Work: Craig and crew put a shower in a half-bath, using the space from a wet bar on the other side of the bathroom wall. This included ripping out the bar, closing up and painting the wall on that side, putting in a beautiful shower, taking out a fir-down, putting in a light and exhaust fan, and finishing off the paint and trim on the bathroom side.

We scheduled an appointment with Mr. Hamilton to provide us an estimate for a full bathroom remodel. He was punctual for the inintial meeting, listened to what we wanted, took measurements and told us he would send us some pictures and an estimate for the job via email. We received the pictures but we never received an estimate for the job. We have tried contacting him several times via phone but he has yet to return any of our calls. We were excited to have Mr. hamilton provide a bid based on the comments on Angies list but now we are very dissappointed in how he has handled the situation.

Craig, Vincent, and Paul were outstanding. They hung plastic all around the area needing tile removal. They also covered furniture in adjoining rooms. It was an all day task to break and remove all the tile and then haul it away... we were shocked to find unpatched holes under the tiles that had cracked, which was probably the reason for the cracking to begin with. Craig and his crew repaired all the spots and leveled the entire floor on day two. On day three and four they spent time laying the wood floors. It was done in a meticulous fashion. They then did a large amount of finishing work. Where there had been caulking between the tile and molding they added more wood molding matching perfectly. They made custom cuts that really made the molding look exceptional. Every day they cleaned up so that we did not have to move out. Craig and his team were personable and took real pride in what they did. They exceeded our expectations... we were so pleased we had our neighbors over immediately. We can honestly say this was the first time in a long time that we have not had any "buyers remorse." I have no doubt that when we need something done again, I will call Hamilton Interiors without any hesitation. .
Description of Work: We had approximately 450 sq ft of ceramic tile removed from our entry way, kitchen and dining area of a five year old house. (We had had severe cracks appearing in the tile over the past two years) They then did prep work and installed hardwoods and finish work. They also replaced some broken tiles in another part of the hours and regrouted.

We contacted Craig after the holidays to have a sagging cabinet replaced in our kitchen. He had looked at the cabinet during a previous job he did for us (remodeling a utility room) and recommended another contractor as a cabinet builder. This contractor and his crew built and installed a new oak cabinet during January. The existing doors were retained for reinstallation, as they were in good shape and match the other cabinet doors. Craig and his crew finished out the cabinet to match our other existing kitchen cabinetry and reinstalled the lighting fixtures. Everything is working and it looks great. We have been pleased with all aspects of Craig's work, the crews he has provided, and the cost of the improvements. We will call him first when we have more remodeling needs.
Description of Work: Craig Hamilton and an assistant reinstalled the cabinet doors and under-cabinet lighting for the newly constructed cabinets built by another contractor. Craig had referred us to the other contractor we used and reviewed positively. Craig hired two workers to stain and clear coat the cabinets, a multi-step process completed over two days the previous week.

This was a total kitchen overhaul and a total floor replacement for about 3200 sq feet, much of which we were planning to do ourselves. For instance, we handled the upstairs flooring, the kitchen cabinets, the new kitchen island, counters etc. Craig bid the downstairs flooring, carpentry, wall extension and drywall. And let me tell you, it takes a special kind of contractor to work beside a homeowner on a 3 week job! Not only was his work first rate in every way, but he and his crew were polite, professional, neat and considerate. Put it this way, our dogs missed them when the job ended! Craig and his crew not only did their jobs, but were very, very supportive and helpful with knowledge and professional tips as we did the DIY project of custom kitchen cabinets, counters, lighting, vent hoods and molding. We learned a lot from these guys! I've been around contractors all my life, and my wife, in addition to being a CEO, can fix her own tractor, cut crown molding or rewire a house; and we're here to tell you, you'll never find a better contractor than Craig Hamilton. These guys cleaned up after themselves every day. Remodeling a house you live in can be a messy, messy experience, and they went out of their way to lessen the footprint. The quality of the work is first rate - better than we've seen in many custom homes - and I cannot imagine anyone doing a better job. Craig is a perfectionist...I could see where the crew performed their work with his work ethic as their driving force. The old adage clearly applies to Craig's work: "If a job is worth doing, it's worth doing right."
Description of Work: This was a kitchen and flooring remodel job. Contractor required to: Remove all of the downstairs flooring, including a glued wooden floor...remove the tile in the upstairs bathrooms...extend a downstairs partition wall by 15 inches...replace and repair sheetrock as needed - incl. float and tape...fill, float and smooth a concrete depression in slab of kitchen...remove shoe molding throughout the downstairs...INSTALL floating laminate floor throughout downstairs, replace shoe mold and crown molding, undercut double-sided fireplace so that flooring disappears under the brick.

I contacted Craig by e-mail and received a call from him the next day. He came out for the estimate a couple of days later and sent me a written estimate via e-mail soon thereafter. The job was completed over a four-day period, beginning with the demo work, then porcelain tile installation, drywall replacement, and countertop. Craig designed the countertop and gave Rick, the tile installer, instructions on cutting the granite component. They finished this morning. Since I'm painting the room myself, Craig will return in two days to move and reconnect the washer and dryer.
Description of Work: Utility room remodel. Craig and his crew replaced the floor, removed an unwanted built-in ironing board, repaired the wall where the ironing board was located, and created a new countertop for the laundry sink using materials that tie into the adjacent kitchen.

Craig did a wonderful job! The work was performed on our home, but we currently live out of the country and have renters. Craig worked through every detail of the work via email and phone conversations. He took pictures of the proposed tile and fixtures and matched everything beautifully to our existing bathroom. I am picky, and he was very willing to work with the pickiest of people! He did everything on time and on budget and even replaced some insulation for us without adding more to the cost of the job. I was so pleased with his professionalism, service and work product that I am scheduling him for more work!
Description of Work: Tore out old stand up shower - tile, basin, door, fixtures. Rebuilt entire shower.

Craig and Vincent were always on time and very pleasant to work with. They worked very hard and finished the work in the amount of time discussed. We are so happy with the tilework and would recommend this company to anyone.
