UPDATE Feb 2021: Not only was this a good solution for the summer but it also helped out during the winter storms that shut down Texas. Due to Neal the owner adding additional insulation along with the barrier itself, it protected my pipes from freezing up during sub zero temperatures. This was a lifesaver and resulted in this un-foreseen benefit and protection for my home. I would highly recommend affordable radiant barrier. The owner Neal comes out and personally conducts the estimate and he also arrives and personally supervisors and participates in the installation of the job itself. They get started early and work very hard. I can already feel the effects of the radiant barrier itself and I am very impressed. I ran estimates with three other companies and this by far was the best solution. Neal also installed additional insulation and an attic fan in addition to the radiant barrier itself. I also examined the radiant barrier product and it is higher quality and more durable than what you can buy at the store and better than what the other contractors were using.

This is a first rate company. Honest. On time. Professional. And as the name says, affordable. But it’s not like buying a Ford instead of a Cadillac. It’s like getting a Cadillac at the price of a Ford. This is a small owner/operator company. No big fancy offices and fleet of huge shiny trucks covered in advertising (aka: overhead). The owner himself does a thorough inspection and provides all the solutions, many of which we’re not recognized by the other companies I had bid. And then the owner and his team instal (two full days) the highest quality materials. They went above and beyond to improve not only the insulation but the ventilation as well. We needed 14 soffit vents added because the builder cut corners 20 years ago. We used to have to keep the thermostats at 71 and we were subject to hot and cold spots in the house as both units labored and often failed to make temp. Especially in the afternoon of days in the upper 90’s. However, we’ve been able to set the temps at 74 now and the units make temp, rest often and the house is evenly climatized and much more comfortable. Do not hesitate to hire this company. You can’t get a better price for the quality of the materials and workmanship. Bar none. And trust me, I’m a picky pain in the a$$ who’s tight with his money. So if you listen to me, I just saved you between 10 and 15 hours of phone calling, having people in your home crawling around, more phone calling, debates with the spouse, staying awake at night thinking who to hire, etc. need I say more! Call Neal first and last. Now say thank you.

It was a pleasure working on your home and educating you on the difference between insulating an attic in Minnesota vs. Texas, two totally different animals. In Minnesota you want to keep the heat in the home, whereas in Texas you want to keep the heat out! What everyone needs to watch out for is the transplant insulation company from our northern regions wanting to lay Radiant Barrier on top of your homes insulation, that's an effective process in colder climates but not in hot regions like Texas. Radiant Barrier needs to be attached to you attic's roof decking rafters (or support beams) and needs an air gap to work properly. If Radiant Barrier is installed properly in your attic you'll save money year round and you'll get the fastest return on your investment. Needless to say your home will feel much cooler all over the house, especially for those of you with two story homes. Rooms of the house on the 2nd floor will no longer be difficult to cool down during the dog days of summer. Were pleased your happy with our work and I'll be checking in on you in the months to come to ensure your pleased in the months to come. Last but not least get ready to watch for your utility $avings.

Neal was very responsive, punctual and paid attention to detail. He educated me on the differences in various qualities of radiant barrier and on the value of using high quality. He also went so far as to tell me where not to install additional insulation as it would be a waste of money. He solicited opportunities to help in other ways while his crew was installing the radiant barrier under his watchful eye. By comparison with other companies, his fee was very reasonable. I don't have any evidence to show how effective the radiant barrier is in lowering my electric bill because the job was done in September, when the weather was getting cooler and just before we began using heat instead of A/C. We will have to wait until next summer, when we will have been in the new house for a year, to compare the A/C usage.

Thank you for the kind words and it was a pleasure working with you. As you mentioned I educate every customer on the different Radiant Barrier products on the market and the quality of each one. I'll never cut corners to save money on the Radiant Barrier I install in my customer's homes because Radiant Barrier is the reason customers contact me and I'll never install an inferior product to save money - that doesn't work out in the long run for either of us. I'm at every install to ensure every customer is getting the highest quality of service and I'm able to answer your questions throughout the work process rather that having you deal with installers that with many companies may have a language barrier.

I completed installation of foil radiant barrier in my 2 story, 3500 sq foot home on Wednesday of this week. I have been able to raise my thermostat 3 degrees higher than I had it previously set, the "hot spots" in my house have evened out, the humidity level in the house has dropped, and I checked my daily kilowatt usage with my energy provider. In the three days since they installed, my energy consumption has dropped by 42%! I highly recommend them - honest, fairly priced, polite workers, and a quality job. His number is (469) 777-8595 - [*** Link removed ***] I am thrilled with my experience with Neal and his team.

It went very well and I will definitely recommend Neal and his team to anyone needing to add insulation or reduce their heating/cooling bills. Neal was very professional and helpful. Great team and great service. Neal added 12" of loose-fill insulation to my attic, installed a Wi-Fi Attic fan and installed a radiant barrier to the underside of my roof. He also needed to add some eave vents to the outside of the house and did so himself. I am very pleased with the service done to my home.

We have an older single-story 2,500 sf home with a shallow attic. Interviewed six different companies. All but one was found on AL with good reviews. One company simply wanted to blow in insulation and could not quote a foil radiant barrier. Another very popular company on AL did not even offer a foil radiant barrier, but wanted to spray it onto the underside of the roof. Another company offered a foil radiant barrier, but the foil was as thin as heavy-duty aluminum foil and not nearly as thick as what we received from our chosen company. This company also wanted to install a $1,000 solar powered exhaust fan, which from my research is not as effective as the thermostat-controlled electric fan (BTW, if the motor goes out on the electric version, it is quite cheap and easy to replace). All in all, Neal Jones spent over an hour assessing our situation in the attic (no other company spent more than 15 minutes up there) before giving us a very clear estimation. He explained the entire process thoroughly and when I was ready to compare quotes, he made himself available and was extremely thorough once again. His crew was on time and to top it off, I had no cleanup to do after they left, I rarely give reviews and almost never rave reviews, but we were extremely pleased with his work, cost, professionalism and promptness. Neal was not the cheapest, but came in at about the middle. Again, some companies were not even comparable with their quotes. We sincerely feel as if we received a great product(s) and great service.
Description of Work: Work: (1) Heavy-duty foil radiant barrier installed, (2) Additional 12 inches of white fiberglass "cotton ball" insulation blown in on top of very old insulation that was about 4 to 6 inches in depth, (3) Thermostat controlled high power attic vent fan installed, (4) Air duct air leaks were sealed, and (5) a licensed HVAC professional was brought in to inspect the HVAC system.

Neal Jones was courteous, knowledgeable and prompt and thoroughly explained the process and how to best address the issues. I never felt like he was trying to upsell or to push unnecessary products. The job was completed with efficiency and the radiant barrier made a noticeable difference in the comfort level in our home and our electric bill. It went great. Neal Jones, the owner of Affordable Radiant Barrier, came out to my residence and gave me a bid for installing radiant barrier and additional attic insulation. I was also in the process of having a new roof installed. Neal came out to my house the day the roof was being installed so he could tell the roofers the correct place to leave the hole so he could install the attic fan, which he did. He was at my house while the radiant barrier and the installation was installed.

As I began writing this review it became immediately obvious that, to do it justice and give Neal the credit he deserves, it was going to be more of a dissertation than a quick review. Therefore, I decided to write two versions. For those who are short on time, impatient or just want the quick summary, the "TLDR" version is for you. If you're someone who wants all the details, feel free to read all the way through. TLDR version: If you're considering putting in a radiant barrier and insulation in your home, Neal Jones with Affordable Radiant Barrier is the man you should call. He is honest, dependable, responsive and extremely knowledgeable in the field of energy efficiency for your home and attic. He has thoroughly impressed me from start to finish and I'm extremely happy that we decided to select him for this job. Our installation is complete and we can already tell a dramatic difference in the comfort level of our home, especially the second story. Even being inside the attic is tolerable now. Before we started, I honestly wasn't sure if it was going to have a noticeable impact. But it has been incredible and we are extremely pleased. Neal and Affordable Radiant Barrier exceeded our expectations across the board. If you're in the market for a radiant barrier and/or insulation, do yourself a favor and give Neal a call. You can save yourself the hassle of having to meet with all the other vendors. You'll just waste a lot of your time, and will end up selecting Neal for the job anyway. Trust me, you won't be disappointed by ARB! Full version: First off, let me start by saying that, when it comes to selecting a contractor to work in my home, I'm very particular with who I choose and I'm extremely thorough with the amount of research I do. I researched and read reviews on 7-8 companies who install radiant barriers. After the research and reviews, I narrowed my list down to 4 vendors (including Affordable Radiant Barrier), and I requested assessments/quotes from each of those 4 vendors. One of the vendors was a no-show so they immediately came off my list. The second vendor came out and provided an assessment. They were not terrible, but they weren’t anything special either. Their pricing seemed reasonable, although I didn’t have anything to compare it to at the time. The main concern I had, was they didn't spend much time surveying the attic and I just didn't feel like they were very thorough. They didn't take any measurements, temperature readings, etc. It just felt like they were kind of guessing with everything and were trying to rush through so they could head off to another appointment. The third vendor was quite impressive. They were prompt, courteous and extremely thorough with their assessment. They quickly became the front runner for my selection. Although I did have some reservations about their pricing, as they were significantly higher than the other quote I had received at that point. ARB was the final vendor I met with. Neal Jones, the owner, impressed me from the start. I had submitted a request for an attic assessment after reading some of Neal's reviews on Angie's List and on the ARB website. Neal contacted me shortly thereafter and scheduled an appointment promptly. The day of the appointment, he arrived at exactly the time he said he would be there; no 3-4 hour arrival window like other companies are prone to these days. He spent some time explaining the radiant barrier process to me, gave a demonstration of how it works and showed me the difference in quality between the attic foil he uses versus the cheaper product that many other vendors use. The quality difference was immediately noticeable. After that, Neil spent an hour (or more) up in our attic, taking measurements, asking questions, detailing the process and explaining all the improvements they could make in the energy efficiency of our home. He promised me a quote within a couple of days but had it in my inbox that same evening. ARB's pricing was well below what the other vendors quoted, so that was an immediate positive. But pricing isn't the only factor that influences my decisions in matters like these. I just felt like Neal really knew what he was talking about, and wasn't trying to pitch me on a bunch of stuff that I don't really need. He just seemed like an honest, no nonsense contractor who assured me he could make a noticeable difference in the comfort in our home, and an impact to the monthly cost to cool/heat our home. He always responded promptly whenever I sent him a text or email with questions; and trust me, I ask a lot of questions. We were also in the process of having a new roof put on due to the recent hail storms. Rather than trying to increase his profits, he gave me several recommendations for ventilation improvement that the roofing company could take care of, since it could be done as part of the roof replacement which was covered by my insurance. It ended up saving me hundreds of dollars. He even offered to come over on a Saturday to help me pre-wire the fan before the roofers got started on the roof. Neal could have easily increased his profit by making everything part of his scope of work. But that's just not the kind of guy he is. It became immediately obvious that Neal was the best choice for the job, and we decided to move forward with ARB. Once I gave him the green light, Neal scheduled our install promptly. He arrived with his crew, on time, and began working immediately. It's rare that the owner of the business shows up for the install, much less stay for the entire job and even help with the work. But Neal was onsite from start to finish, ensuring that the job was completed to his high standards, and to our complete satisfaction. He took several opportunities throughout the day to show me their progress, to ask if I had any questions, and to make sure I was happy with how everything was coming together. His crew was professional and polite, and they treated our home with respect. They kept everything clean and took extra care not to damage anything. They also had our AC units and furnaces (inside and outside) professionally inspected and cleaned, and they even repaired several leaking air ducts in our attic. Their scope of work also covered the inspection and cleaning of our soffit vents outside, to help maximize air flow through the attic. They really went above and beyond with their quality of service and workmanship. They finished up that same day, and I could immediately notice a difference in our home. Before ARB, on a typical summer day I would set our second-floor unit to 73 degrees and it would run constantly, but could never drop the temperature upstairs below 78-79 degrees; not until several hours after sunset anyway. Now, when I set the thermostat to 73 degrees, it has no problem getting there, and staying there all day. We typically don't have a reason to set the thermostats any colder than 73 degrees, as that is perfectly comfortable for us. But I decided to try dropping it to 68 degrees as a test. Guess what happened? It cooled the home down to 68 degrees quickly, and it held there! Pretty amazing for a hot, triple-digit summer day in Dallas. I would have gone lower but my wife got annoyed with me and said she was freezing, so that pretty much ended that little experiment. I have also been measuring our attic temperature with digital thermometers before and after the radiant barrier. Before the barrier, our attic would easily reach 130+ degrees on a typical summer day. After the radiant barrier, it's almost the same temperature as the outside air. It is truly amazing and I still can't believe how much difference it made in our home! My only regret is not calling Neal sooner. Neal told me that if he does his job right, I'll never have a need to call him again. But if we ever decide to move to a different home, which doesn't have a radiant barrier installed, he will be the first person I call. Thank you, Neal Jones, and Affordable Radiant Barrier for reducing our energy bills, making our home more comfortable, and more livable during the brutal Texas summer heat. We couldn't be happier with the results!

We never get tired of reading reviews like yours. The Radiant Barrier System we designed and installed at your home will pay for itself many times over and again. I know you said it was hot upstairs before our RB System was installed - so It's great to hear your able to cool down the upstairs to 68 degrees. Getting the 2nd floor to cool down that low during the Texas Heat is an amazing feeling... Your family is going to enjoy this for many years to come.

It went great. he came to inspect my attic showed me everything that was wrong with it ( the house was built in 1957 and had 0 ventilation and only a half inch of insulation). He gave a demonstration of the product he used (a thick sheet of barrier vs a spray paint barrier). The price I was quoted was the best offered and the work was done quickly and of high quality work. my AC turned off for the first time in a month 30 min after they left. A+ would use again ( but with all the work they did I don't expect to need any more work for several years)

I have had 15 to 20 contractors in my house over the past three years, and Neal Jone was the first and only owner I talked with about his services. He was the salesman and the leader of the crew that worked on my attic. He was on sight from the time the workers started until he and I made the final check. What impresses me is his attention to detail. When he came out for the estimate, I expected him to check out the attic, but he also looked at the air conditioning system and then walked around the house to check the soffits because he was concerned about the air flow. He was the only contractor that looked at the outside of my house, and he was the only contractor who gave me a bid that included the soffits. His workers were polite and always always on task. When he was not working himself, he was checking their work to make sure it was up to his standards. His company is Affordable Radiant Barrier and his bid was almost $500.00 under the next closest bid. Neal Jones is the only person I would recommend for anyone who is thinking about insulation or a radiant barrier. From start to finish, he is the person for the job.

I needed more insulation added to the attic of the house I recently purchased. I have no idea how anyone could have withstood a Texas summer with the little amount of insulation in the attic. I received one other quote that was out of line. Neal quoted me without inquiring about the cost of the competitor. He was very reasonable and professional and got the job done within 2 weeks of quoting. The job took about 7 hours. I checked out the attic when they were done and the insulation and radiant barrier looked great. The attic was clean and they swept up afterwards. He told me I would tell a difference the next day and I did!! My house is comfortable and cool. The AC isn't cranking on and off all day. This is a great company and they do work the way it should be done! Quick. Fair and Reliable!

Neal Jones, owner of the company is extremely punctual, professional and very upfront with pricing, how long the project will take and what to expect. We were given exact details of what would be required up front prior to any of the work being done. He even found some other issues that he fixed as well. His workers were also very professional and did their job quickly and quietly. All of our questions were answered. The price we were quoted up front actually was reduced when he was done. That was a very pleasant surprise. Our attic looks completely different. They moved a lot of the items that were in the attic and stacked them neatly. They removed trash and everything that we requested. This is an awesome company and I highly recommend them. They are exactly as their name says—affordable. I’m so happy we found them!

Went very well. Neal is a true professional and is very knowledgable. He did not try to upsell me and was very honest when asked what needed to be done. Price was great as well. Barrier and insulation was done within a day! Prior to install my house could barely keep up with the texas summer. Now even at 90 outside, 2100 sq ft home was able to maintain a 74 deg indoor temp. Ac turns on less as well throughout the day. Very impressed!

The radiant barrier and insulation install went well and we really appreciated that Neal gave us the Air Tight Light Kits. The crew actually finished ahead of schedule. A few days after they left I noticed my AC unit wasn't working, which it had not been hot enough to come on. I called repair service and they said some of the wires on the unit in the attic were disconnected. Someone must have accidently stepped on them. Thankfully he reconnected them for a service charge of $69. On April. 25th I received an email from Neal at Affordable Radiant Barrier asking me to give a review on Angie's List for the service provided. I said yes I would and made him aware of the issue with the AC unit and also asked how I would know if the attic fan that was installed was working. He promptly responded and apologized. He said he would put me a check in the mail for the service call and that it had not been hot enough for the fan to come on. Neal emailed the next day stating to hold off on the review until he had a chance to check out the fan and make things right. He wasn't sure it's going to be hot enough for the fan to come on. If it's OK he will schedule a visit when it gets warmer (next 2 weeks hopefully) and he would bring out the check he owed for the AC service call. I agreed. June 5th Neal and an electrician came out to check the fan. It was not working, but was due to the lack of amps on the circuit it was wired to or something like that. So they rewired and checked to make sure it was working properly. They left, but did not offer the $69 check. I also believe the fan should have been tested when installed April 5th and it shouldn't have taken 2 months to check it. I live an hour away and feel this played a part in the delay. I know these things happen, but I felt it needed to be noted.
Description of Work: Install Radiant Barrier in attic to Roof Decking Rafters. Install Thermostat Controlled Attic Exhaust Vent. Needed to exhaust heat buildup in Attic. Add an Additional 6" of insulation to attic. Note: Over the Rear Bedrooms on the front portion of the house you can see the original insulation. I will add the additional insulation to these areas of the house to bring up to proper levels. Give customer 22 Air Tight Light Kits for them to install through the home to increase comfort level in the home. Seal Air Leaks on duct work coming off AC Unit in Attic. Note: 1 Duct is coming loose - will repair that.

It went very well! Neal and his team were very professional and they did an excellent job with the install. The team was very clean, efficient, and you could tell that they enjoy doing what they do. Neal was great to talk to and he's very knowledgeable about efficiency. We called Affordable Radiant Barrier because we are paying far too much during the summer months for electricity. From our perspective, making this investment not only pays for itself over a couple years, but it also takes some of the extra work off of our HVAC units. Can't wait to see how our house feels in July this year.
Description of Work: Installed high quality radiant barrier, added an attic fan to assist with ventilation and addressed numerous minor issues such as foam on our water heater pipes, installing larger soffit vents and even took care of a pest problem. They also installed attic tents over our attic stairs to drive additional efficiency. They sealed up our air ducts where we had leaks. Neal was so good that he even repaired our rod iron fence which had been broken some time ago. He did this voluntarily and I can't speak highly enough about his service.

Outstanding! Neal Jones is honest, professional and courteous. We set up a time for him to come to my home to complete a complimentary insulation inspection. He arrived exactly when he said he would. He checked the windows, vents and attic. After completing a thorough inspection of my attic he said everything looked great and that I did not need to do anything. I can't say enough about Neal. He is trustworthy and did not try to sell me on unnecessary work. If I need to have attic insulation done in the future I will definitely use Affordable Radiant Barrier.
