LOZANOS HOME IMPROVEMENTS

Juan quoted installation of tile in a utility room, bedroom, and three bathrooms and repair of my kitchen backsplash. I wanted radiant heat mesh installed under the bathroom tile which he said he could do. I wanted the utility room done first to allow installation of a washer and dryer. Juan agreed to come in right away and do the work in the utility room, bedroom, and kitchen. We agreed that he would then come back and quote the work in the bathrooms and schedule them when he could. He showed up on time to do the initial job. Work in the utility room and bedroom was satisfactory. However, the tiles his crew laid for my backsplash were all crooked. I pointed this out to him and he said he would straighten them out before grouting. He did not. I did not check the work fully (my fault) and paid him for the work to date (mistake). I tried numerous times to contact Juan to schedule the follow on work. He would not return any of my calls. I finally started looking for another contractor to finish the work and left messages that I just wanted the backsplash fixed. As a last resort, I filed a complaint with the BBB and made one final call to let him know I had done so. He finally called me back, telling me he had not returned my calls because he had been out of town. I know this is not true as he was doing work for a friend at the time. He does all his business via mobile phone so not at least calling me back makes even less sense. He then committed to coming out to fix my kitchen backsplash. We arranged a time in the morning. He called at 10am to tell me that he was running a few hours behind because his truck was in the shop and he had to get his wife's car to get to my house. He never showed up and never called back. My opinion is that he completed the high square foot, high profit work, took my money, and never intended to do the more complicated job in the bathrooms. He had no problem leaving me and my 8 1/2 month pregnant wife stranded with torn up floors in all our bathrooms. He apparently also has no problem with the fact that I am going to have to pay again to have his poor work straightened out. Don't be fooled like me... he is a smooth talker with a very convincing pitch but won't hesitate to hang you out to dry if he finds a job with more profit.

Considering the scope of the work involved, everything went extremely well. It took about one week and three days to complete not counting Sundays. Mr. Lozano is very easy to work with and is helpful in coming up with solutions for all of the things that can happen during remodeling. He has solid working relationships with suppliers and other tradesmen. For example, when we were clearing out one of our lower kitchen cabinets in preparation for the tearing up of the kitchen floor, we discovered we had water damage from an unknown source. Juan called in a plumber he works with and it was determined that the upstairs shower was leaking underneath and dripping down inside of a wall that was brick on one side. It could have been a nightmare but Juan worked with the plumber in isolating the problem and the whole thing only cost $250 to fix. He also called in his cabinet guy who did a really good job of using the solid wood parts from the old cabinet, and the new cabinet is much better than the original. I believe Juan's specialty is with the granite countertops. He really knows how to maximize the use of the slabs and minimize seams. We are very pleased with the outcome of the job and Juan seems like a person who will back up his work if we have any problems down the road. Right now, everything looks great.
