Description of Work: The owner, Jim, came to look at my deck to give me a quote. We had a good conversation but it was too cold to take measurements so he said he'd come back. Never heard from him again after calling the office and sending a follow-up e-mail.

Never provided a quote.
Description of Work: Just like the last reviewer I contacted them about a large project. I sent over the plans and spoke with the office manager a couple of times. I was promised a quote etc. I waited several weeks then tried emailing. Again the office manger was quick to respond with a "we will get back with you soon" message but after 2 months I'm moving on.

Description of Work: We really, really wanted to use this company after hearing really fabulous reviews about them on our neighborhood's facebook page. They have very happy customers around here for sure (Circle C). They came out to our house, discussed all of our ideas/plans for our new balcony and outdoor living area, and then committed to be back with us within a week with an estimate. We really felt like they knew what they were doing and were looking forward to them pulling it together for us! After a week, we heard nothing from them as promised. After two weeks, my husband finally called. No call back. He called again, and again and finally got a call back saying "We will get back to you in a few days, sorry we just have been busy lately." NO CALL BACK. They might have done a good job but clearly they are not organized and don't need the business! Our job would have been a significant job too - right up there alley. We were very disappointed because we had heard such positive reviews on them from people in our community. But we also felt like it was not our job (nor do we have time) to keep pursuing them to do the work on our house.

Description of Work: Requested an estimate for new deck. Tory came and spent about an hour asking questions and taking measurements. Said we would have estimate within a week. No estimate within a week so we called and emailed him. No response. It has now been three weeks with no follow up. We have now selected another company but feel Archadeck wasted our time and theirs.

Description of Work: we had a gentleman give us an estimate on redoing our covered patio. he was wonderful, super nice guy and obviously very talented at what he does. the only reason we didn't use him/archadeck was 1. we decided to remodel the kitchen first 2. archadeck is pretty pricey. they do beautiful stuff, but you certainly pay for it. but if we had the money to spend, we would for sure use them. the guy that came over (dan) was jus so darn nice and professional. we would really love to work w/him someday!
Noelalee, was brilliant in her design ideas and in keeping with what we wanted. Tony, was a thorough project manager with follow up, accommodating changes, and polite. Construction crew, was neat and efficient(Bubba). Mason crew, needed to re-work several items, but did so with out complaint (Horacio).
Description of Work: Remove existing sunroom, replace with open air stone porch with fireplace, fountain, beds and outdoor kitchen area.

Description of Work: From start to finish...awesome! Archadeck constructed a great deck cover over our existing deck (metal roof with stained cedar posts), installed 2 ceiling fans, and replaced existing railing. From start to finish...incredible. We are do-it-yourselfers and rarely call in professionals. This was a nice experience. Design Consultant, Noelalee, helped us hash out our vision as we had been using umbrellas for the last 28 years to enjoy our view of our trees...didn't want to lose the view. My husband was hesitant to add a cover from the beginning, but after a few suggestions, Nolalee held up a measuring tape while I stood inside our kitchen saying higher...higher...a little higher. Then BOOM, a perfect design for our home. Wes, our Project Manager, was very professional and hands on with the project. Workmanship (Casey and Jesse) was spot on. Really impressive. The electrician, Steve, polished off the finishing touches. The lineup of professionals that rotated through our project was great. Final notes on this project included maintenance suggestions, and a warranty fully explained. Really great experience. No hesitation to use, again. In fact...already planning.

After sending a very informed and helpful person out to see the decks we need repaired, we emailed and called numerous times to ask when we could expect an estimate. For a while we got statements like "next week". Then nothing. It would have been nice to get a call or a note that said they were not interested in our job. We lost a lot of time waiting on them. Not very professional in my book. And just plain bad manners.

Response from ARCHADECK OF AUSTIN
Dear Member As the owner of Archadeck if Austin, I wanted to respond to your report. First, I have polled my team on two separate occasions and no one recalls the circumstance you described, your name, or the address. That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, it just means no one remembers it. Archadeck is a design and build company which includes deck remodels and occasionally some deck repair. I know of several other similar repair circumstances this year that we did service. Our policy is always to be attentive to customer requests, even if the project is not a good fit. We are very customer service oriented. As you suggest, this would be bad manners and if this was your experience, I want to apologize. Please feel free to call our office 512.259.8282 or email me other information you may have on this. austin@archadeck.net. Thank you for your report Jim Odom Owner

We chose them because they have the best ratings. They came out and took us to houses that they’d done work on so we could see the finished product, the quality of the wood, and everything. It was a really good crew. Every pergola is designed from top to bottom to work with each house, and you can’t beat the quality of the wood and the workmanship. We had some problems with the stain and the president of the company actually called the company to see how they could correct the problem.
Description of Work: Archadeck of Austin did a pergola. They have a new system that they put on top that makes it rain proof. They put in four ceiling fans and they did all of their own work from beginning to end.

I have used Archadeck three times and have always been very satisfied. They do great work and are very detail-oriented. Mark, the designer, really works hard to design with the customer needs in mind. He is always very responsive and has great ideas for what would look and work best for the area. My recent job with them was to build two sets of stairs coming out of my house down to the pool. I wanted material with no maintenance required and they used the composite wood and metail railings which look amazing. It was more expensive up-front for these materials but will be there forever. The man who built the steps took a while to complete the job but when he finished, it was perfect.

They were very knowledgeable and very accommodating with our schedule. They were timely, professional, and easy to talk to. We first contacted them using Angie’s List email contact link. That worked very easily. They contacted us within a couple of days. They came out, took the measurements, and gave us an estimate. Our experience with them was a pleasant one.

The biggest problem was that the front man - the man that came out to tell us how things would go was not who was out here for the work. He'd tell us one thing and then something else would be done. This caused problems and frustration with us and the work crew. So they ended up leaving things undone, and done poorly. So there was miscommunication. Also, we wanted to pick out our own stones and to be there when it was laid so we could reject certain colors - that's what happend, but they were annoyed and not happy that is how it went even though it only took one day. And it was what we told them from the very beginning, so they knew that was how it was going to happen, before we even signed the contract. They wanted to tell us where we needed to go to pick out the stones and things like that, and what we ended up using did not please them. They had a lot of work to be doing at that time, and they only had one crew. We told them we weren't in a hurry - trying to make it simple for them, but they said, "No, we just want to get this done." This meant mistakes were made, things weren't laid in the proper place. We also had them put cement down, and 1/2 of it was flat and smooth and the other part is uneven - it looks aweful. They left extra cement places, that my husband had to fix and clean up. They took away the extra flagstone we paid for, and that turned in to a situation. It just turned out to be very disheartening and dissapointing. One person promised things that weren't delivered by others. The end result is beautiful, but the process was horrible. I understand home projects aren't pleasent, but the fact that they didn't communicate with us made it apparent that they didn't really want to work with us. We tried to be nice, provide drinks to the workers, but we were picky and wanted it done to our satisfaction. It wasn't a pleasant experience.
Description of Work: They put in a flagstone patio. The deal is that we told them what we were willing to spend, and they had to work around that. Not that they came and gave us an etimate and we approved it. That's kind of different then how it usually works, so it may be different for others.

The estimate was reasonable and I felt comfortable with the company. The original employee who gave me the estimate also shared a lot of great information about the company, their licenses, etc. which was very reassuring. They cleaned up well after themselves after the job was done. They even went above and beyond by helping me to get rid of parts of my old deck that had been demolished.

Mark designed a deck that met our needs for entertaining and access to our backyard. His design minimized obstructions to our Hill Country view from the interior of our home, achieving one of our objectives, while providing ample space for entertaining and easy access to the yard below. Archadeck was willing to work on the deck while the house was completing construction so that we could have a fully completed deck when we moved into our new home. This was important to us since there would otherwise be a 10' drop off of our veranda to the ground below. The material we selected (WeatherBest) is a plastic composite, similar to Trex. I was not familiar with this brand, but selected it based on Mark's recommendation. Construction was started on-time and completed as scheduled. The crew did a good job on cleanup. The site was visited by Charlie, the person in charge of Archadeck of Austin construction projects, on several occasions to monitor progress. During construction, we noticed that the decking color was not consistent across the deck - some of the boards had a different shade of color. The carpenter told me not to worry as the color would fade in the sun; this turned out to be an erroneous assumption on his part. Approximately 10 months after the deck was completed, we began to notice that some of the decking appeared to be uneven with the rest of the decking material. We reported this to Archadeck (Stacey) and he assisted us in filing a claim with Louisiana-Pacific Corporation, the company that purchased the WeatherBest product line (the original company had gone out of business since our deck was completed). An inspection was performed by a 3rd-party and report provided to LP. LP denied the claim and blamed it all on 'workmanship'. (This, despite a notice on their website announcing problems with the quality of Weatherbest decking!). LP also stated that they do not warrant product color... (buyers beware!) I discussed this with Archadeck of Austin's owner, Stacey Chamblis. Stacey coordinated with the deck material supplier in the Austin area who agreed to replace the material (at their expense since LP once again refused to stand behind their product); Stacey provided the labor necessary to reconstruct the deck. After the existing boards were removed, Archadeck made modifications to the deck’s underlying support structure that had caused some of the uneven board problems, and installed new decking material. The ‘remodeled’ deck looks great! Bottom line: what counts when you buy services and products is whether or not the supplier/installer will stand behind their product after the sale. Archadeck did just that and earned my recommendation for deck installations.

Not so great-seemed like a quick design, not a lot of work put into it. Communication was very poor.
Description of Work: Mark came out to give us an estimate on a new deck. He seemed like he knew what he was doing, but was a little unprofessional. He had samples of wood in the trunk of his car, that was a little strange. I felt like he was trying to influence us toward a more expensive wood or composite. He said it would be about 3-4 days before we would get an estimate, but we didn't hear from him for over 3 weeks! I left a message about a week after he came out, but he never returned my call. We just received an email later with an estimate.

Everything was fine. The carpenter was very nice and he informed us that he would arrive early in the morning to work, because it was cooler. It took awhile for the product that I had ordered to arrive, at no fault to Archadeck. We asked for reference that have used them before to get more opinions before we used them.

Mark, the sales rep, returned all of my calls and e-mails promptly and timely during the bid process, and throughout the project. He worked with me to find suitable alternatives in order to reduce the initial cost estimates and gave us a discount on top of that. The job was started at the approximate time it was estimated to start with the job foreman and carpenter arriving timely for our pre-construction meeting. Everything was explained in detail and to my satisfaction. The carpenter cleaned up the job site every evening he worked and was very sweet. Although the job was supposed to take 1 week,it took 2. The carpenter left the job for a couple of days on personal biz. In addition, on the days he was there, he spent an inordinate amount of time in personal phone calls on his cell. Because of the delay, the beautiful Brazilian hardwood was left several days sitting in rainwater which caused some unnecessary staining. He was a master carpenter, though, and did a beautiful job.
Description of Work: Archadeck built a new deck off our back patio.
