+ -1 moreChuck came out to bid on tree trimming service. He was decently responsive and punctual, but was far more interested in pitching their landscaping services than talking about the trees. I don't need 10 minutes of commentary on how dead and awful my backyard looks. Xeriscaping is likely in our future, but not this year and definitely not with this company. Stick to the bids you're asked for. The bid was also significantly higher than the others we got.

Description of Work: We have used American Arbors for landscaping work. They built a 12 foot by 180 foot retaining wall out of some material stone that we had out here. They put in green walls making up from trees, and they also did landscaping and irrigation. They have built stone staircases and stone tree wells and so forth. They have trimmed a lot of out Oak trees too, that are several hundred years old.

+ -1 moreIt went very poorly overall. They initially worked when scheduled but trying to get them out to complete the job was almost impossible. We tried to contact them for over a month - repeated phone calls, faxes, emails, even a registered letter that they never picked up from the post office. Finally we complained to Servicemaster.com and got a response. They argued with us for several months about two trees they installed in lieu of other plants in the contract and then decided we should pay for. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and although they finally returned they did not get rid of the nutsedge completely - which was one of our initial consultation issues. They never gave us the requested / advertised care and warranty info and it turns out that many of the plants they recommended are neither low maintenance or deer resistant. Like trees that grow to 25 feet tall under the eave of the house and 11 acid loving shrubs not suited to central TX...
Description of Work: Essentially a complete landscaping of our front yard. This included removing all undesirable plant material, defining plant beds, recommending, providing and installing plants and some sod. We have very little background in landscaping combined with a young family and were therefore clear that we were looking for a low maintenance, deer resistant landscape (we are in NW Hills, the deer sleep in our front yard!). We had them do some masonry work after a referral from Servicemaster.com without any issue last fall and therefore gave them the opportunity to bid on our landscaping. We had some problems communicating with Cesar but were told they were converting from one email address to another. We checked their reputation with the Better Business Bureau before our masonry work and did not see any issue. By the time we made our complaint about 6 months later, there were three other complaints also on file. Apparently, we are not the only ones who have had problems with them.

+ -1 moreThey canceled my appointment at the last minute, after I had already made plans to meet them at home during the work day. We rescheduled a second appointment a week later. They failed to show up for the second appointment and didn't return my phone calls. I wasted two half-days of vacation time trying to meet these guys. Shame on you, American Arbors!
Description of Work: I requested that they come out to bid on installing some retaining walls.
