Wes Stearns was our salesman and he did a great job of explaining which AC unit would best suit our house. He explained everything to us in laymens terms too! Service crew showed up on time. The men were very friendly and courteous. They put cloth down to protect my new hardwood floors and everything. Air Co Mechanical even hauled off my old unit. We have been nothing but happy with our new AC since. Would highly recommend these guys. Very professional and courteous.

I had a bad experience with them. The heat was not going on. It took the guy who came an hour and a half to fix it. I told them I had insurance and they billed me a couple of hundred dollars. They were difficult to work with and I would not use them again. If other people are told a certain price, don't plan on it. I used them in November. I refused to pay my bill. I had a lawyer let them know I had a contract.

Technician arrived in a timely manner and was very professional. Performed a complete diagnostic and was unable to locate the fault. Called a Carrier specialist who suggested additional diagnostics. As with a previous Carrier specialist fron another company; this technician was unable to pinpoint the issue. I was very pleased with the thorough attempt to find the problem at no additional cost to me. I eventually replaced the complete HVAC system. Because my preferred equipment brand was not carried by Airco, I used a different Angie's List A-rated vendor. If Airco had my preferred brand available, I would likely have used them for the replacement.
Description of Work: Asked technician to diagnose a "no-defrost" condition with my "builder's grade" Carrier heat pump.

We bought our house 4 years ago and have never had our air conditioning unit maintenanced. The temperatures in Round Rock, TX have consistently been over 100 degrees since July 2011. I knew I didn't want to experience a break down, so I called Airco because of a tune-up coupon. Todd, our service tech, inspected the unit and gave my husband maintenance tips. He was very professional and easy to communicate with. Even though it was extremely hot outside while performing the work, Todd didn't hurry through the check. He advised us that we need 2 capacitors replaced, or there was a chance that we might experience an expensive break down that could result in us needing a new unit in the near future. I had already talked to their office person about a service offer that included a dual season check-up contract that would also give us a fall check-up with a discount, if repair was needed for $179. Todd told us that we could either do a quick cheap fix or head off a potential more serious repair need and gave us a choice. It was more than I had hoped to spend ($491), but considering I didn't want a more expensive repair and the price included Airco coming back when we would be using the heater to have a tune-up on it in a few months, I think it was well worth it. I am pretty sure the heater is going to need some things done to it because it kept cutting off during the last winter! So, I am pretty sure I will be needing that discount the contract offers on their fall service. My brother seem to think I over paid, but I don't know really what the average cost for the service should have been. Once I hear what the heater needs this winter, I will know if this is a good deal or if I will be needing to replace my whole system in our 10 year old DR Horton built house.
Description of Work: Service Tech, Todd, said our 10 year old air conditioner had a weak blower motor CAP, Dual cap was weak. Todd did a complete tune-up and replaced CAP's and put in a new ESP(?). Price included a spring and fall service contract.

We had to replace a poorly designed 15 year old central AC. The was a big investment for us and received 6 different bids. Airco came in with the best, the sales person was extremely knowledgable. I am not the average AC customer as I know enough about systems and technology that I was very critical about what size unit I was buying. The total cost was over $9000 for a Carrier Infinity system. The installers worked in one of the hottest days of one of the hottest summers we have had here in Austin. I thought they needed more than two people, but they did a lot of work that day and got the furnace a/c system add ALL the rework of the plenum done and the system was up and running by the end of the day. A big part of this evaluation was the 10 year LABOR warranty that we got with the system. Carrier had a good 10 and 20 year normal warranty, but covering the Labor was something not everyone offered and I suggest that you work or negotiate that in with your Airco deal. So far so good... and I'm pleased with this high dollar purchase.

I was not very pleased with the service and result I received from the inspection. I felt my problem of the hum in the system was not taken seriously and nothing was done to even check it out.. I felt like he was more interested in selling increased services in price than trying to solve my problem which if he really was educated with performing a detailed inspection and solving any problem I addressed would have been a priority. When I put in a bad report the owner of the company called me 6 months later to apologize for waiting so long to contact me about my complaint of the services and wanted to immediately to make an appointment to come out to have a look at the system again. It was about that time that I accepted the deal with Air Movement.
Description of Work: The technician James Peterson made a long preprinted checklist of all the task he was suppose to be performing but the job was quick and nondetailed. The task was checking the heating system which his reportable results were Fall Tune-up All components are functioning properly. System is heating well. Recommend running hard pipe through the furnace wall instead of gas flex. Also recommended installing a float switch to prevent possible water damage. An upgraded gas pipe would cost 191.00 with essential service or protection and 225.00 without essential protection and alsoo install a float switch would be 125.00 with essential service or protection and 144.00 without essential service or protection. I declinced both services. I asked him about a loud hum the system was making and he stated that it was natural and this was apart of the system even though I told him that the noise just started a month ago and it was not happening before that. The loud hum was very disturbing and annoying. He did not follow through on my complaint.

Response from Airco Mechanical
We attempt to answer all and address customer issues from negative surveys in a timely manner, and unfortunately in this instance we did not receive the survey until many months after the work was performed. We did address the issue as soon as the survey was received but we apologize for not addressing this issue sooner. The repairs suggested to Member were very legitimate. The gas line modification was suggested to bring the installation up to current code standards, which require rigid gas pipe to enter the furnace. The reason for the code change was to protect residents from fire or explosion due to the edge of the gas line entry hole wearing through the flexible gas line due to a vibrating furnace. This is a very serious safety issue. Furnaces are mechanical devices with moving parts and will vibrate, especially older installations. Flexible gas line is only allowed when connecting the shut off to the hard pipe stub coming out of the furnace. The float switch is a device that shuts off the system when the water level in the condensate drain pan rises, typically due a clogged drain. Without this switch, it is possible that the system will continue to run indefinitely with a clogged drain causing significant damage to finished areas of the house (ceilings, walls, floors, etc.). Drains can become clogged due to a number of reasons; wind blown insulation, insect or pest issues, inadvertent resident causes, or even a clogged sanitary drain in other areas of the house where the condensate drain is connected under a sink. Thank you for allowing us to address these concerns.

They had installed the system nine years ago. Last time when they came out, I feel they would have damaged the unit when they went into the attic to do the servicing of the unit. They said that they had discovered this problem but I’m not convinced about it. So they said that they had to do some repairs and they gave us the estimate for it. It was not a reasonable estimate. My husband is an engineer and he’s into construction, so he knows how it works and he also knows more or less how much it costs to do it. He didn’t feel it was a reasonable estimate. I told them since they had installed it nine years ago; they should know how it works and what the different ways of repairing the unit are. I asked them how they can fail at this point. So the guy called me back and said that it was a fair estimate and they said that they don’t have any record of having it repaired before, so we got no warranty. It was a very simple thing to do. Nothing had to be replaced and we didn’t need any parts. So we were done with them. I would not use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Airco Mechanical for my heating and air conditioning. I last used their services two weeks ago. They did the maintenance of the unit. We have four units in our house and they serviced one of the units last year. They offered us a little deal where they had to come out and check it out once a year and for a tune up. So it was time for our tune up and so we decided that we were going to ask them to put the other three units on that same little deal, which they did. They discovered some of our duct work was leaking because it had come separated from the plenum. They gave us an estimate of $1500 to fix it.

When quoting the repair, we considered many issues including location of the unit in the attic and the travel time to and from Spicewood. This repair consisted of a custom built and sized, insulated plenum and ducts, not a simple duct sealing repair. It is important to note that that the quote to perform the repair was actually $1,016. We feel that the repair was properly and fairly estimated.

I cannot speak highly enough about the entire Airco office: the admin staff, consultant, installers. The consultant came to our house and spent close to two hours examining our existing system, listening to our concerns about our old existing system, and explaining fully what he recommends for our home and why. He also exlained the rebates and possible tax credit available. Our options were clearly laid out in terms of equipment, efficiency, cost, pros & cons. We never felt herded toward any particular choice (as we did with another company we interviewed for this job). Tony, our consultant, has had over 25 years of experience in the business including years of installations. He actually knows what he's talking about. The results tell us he was right on target. From the consult to the follow-up, Airco was on time, professional, incredibly responsive to our follow-up questions and needs. We felt we were in the hands of pros whose only concern was to make the process as pain-free as possible and to have satisfied customers. The installation went smoothly.Tony coordinated every aspect of the process and everyone involved showed up on time and did exactly what was required. Their price was fair and we are more than happy with the results. I highly commend Airco.

I have a 28 yr. old AC system in my home. Aside from the "fall tune-up" they performed with the coupon deal I received from Angie's list, I was interested in having the evap. coil cleaned. The service man who performed the service and gave me the estimate did not appear to be very knowledgeable in general and his estimate for cleaning the coil was double what it should have been (based on other AC company estimates). He could not tell me what size filter to use on this unit, because of it's age, and suggested perhaps it would have to be a custom filter. A subsequent visit from a different AC company answered all of my questions and the size of the filter I should use was adequately explained to me. I would not use this company again.

I called to make the appointment one day after the Big Deal sale concluded. I expected to wait longer than I did for them to come out - but they made the appointment for the next week. When I requested an early AM appointment, they said they usually only gave windows (8-12am), but she put me down as requesting the first appointment of the day and gave me a window of 8-9am, which I really appreciated. The tech showed up at about 9:15. He was professional and seemed thorough - I liked that they make it a policy to clear the AC condensate drain every service. The gas line to my furnace is flex line, and he caught that current code calls for a hard line. Nice to know for when I sell the house. He gave me a price to update to code but was not trying to sell me on it at all, which was nice. He was done in an hour or so.

The price was good, and I believe the quality of the system they put in was good as well. The only problem was that the sales man promised a silent thermostat but the thermostat they put in is noisy. They also promised to replace 2 other thermostats as well but did not follow through. When I questioned them, it was because they couldn't find any quiet thermostats. The other problem that surfaced after the installation was that the area that the replacement system serves smells like a musty attic now. I have been using them for many, many years and have been overall satisfied with their service. I will use them again if they take care of the smell. UPDATE: I called AIRCO and asked them to investigate the smell. They sent out two technicians promptly who spent a good deal of time in a very hot attic and eventually found a small gap where two components joined. They sealed the gap and the smell started dissipating and was largely gone within two days.

The order was placed on a Wednesday and the installation team arrived the next day. It took them two full days to remove the old system and install the new. They returned the following Monday to wrap up the job, cleaning up the work areas, fine tuning the operation and giving me a personal briefing on how the system operated and then a under the house inspection of their work. And their workmanship was exceptional. I had a few early concerns on the installation process which the sales rep Stuart Thompson quickly resolved. All in all, a very good experience, will use again.
Description of Work: I shopped all the major AC companies recommended by Angies List and AirCo had the best price and installation schedule. I got a 17 Seer Lennox AC with a dual fuel heat pump (electric and propane) to replace an old existing AC/heating system that was highly energy inefficient. The new Lennox system will operate at a 50% or better efficiency and provides a nice compliment to my homes 8.4 kw solar electric system. I also qualified for $3,300 in rebates from Lennox, the City of Austin and the Federal government :))).

Both times, the technicians arrived promptly, were courteous and professional. No issues were discovered in their review, so I'm not sure what their repair competency is. However, the technician did explain potential future issues with my system (e.g., float valve, R22 refrigerant, etc.). My only quibble with AIRCO is they are pricey. For a 5 year maintenance contract, they charge 1500, for a 10 year they charge 2500. My service calls take about 30 minutes each call, and if they make 2 a year, that's the equivalent of about $250 an hour (on the 10 year plan). We're talking about high priced lawyer territory at this point, which to me is just a bit too high to pay.
Description of Work: I recently moved into my home, and wanting to ensure that the HVAC system worked efficiently and effectively, I contracted with AIRCO for their 2x a year maintenance service. They came out last fall for their winter heater system check (natural gas), and today for the summer air conditioner service (electric compressor). The service includes a "once over" of the mechanical systems to ensure they are working within acceptable parameters, and to the extent anything requires repair, they can fix most problems.

Response from Airco Mechanical
We certainly appreciate his faith in our quality and professionalism and his continued use of Airco Mechanical as his AC contractor of choice. It should be noted that he has two HVAC systems and that our pricing for his particular service, our Essential Service Plan, was $238.00 annually for two systems ($119 per system). This service includes, for each system, two 15 point tune-ups per year, reduced diagnostic fees, 15% discounts on all repairs, first lb. of refrigerant free, no overtime charges and preferred same day service. We feel this is an exceptional value and was discounted from our normal $288 rate ($169 for 1st system and $119 for additional systems). Our standard pricing for 2 systems for five years would indeed be $1,440, and ten years for $2,880, but that also would guarantee no increases in the Essential Service Plan for those time periods. We would also like to point out that we have a standard residential diagnostic fee of $79 ($39 for our service plan customers!), and flat rate allowance pricing that is always discussed and agreed to with the customer, prior to any repair being initiated. Thanks for the opportunity to clarify our pricing structure! We believe that the other pricing referred to in the above report may have been misconstrued somewhat.
