Poor professionalism.

I had stone curbing installed around my trees in 2011. The company did not build a proper foundation to support the rows of stone. As a result, shifting soil caused the cement to crack and the stones to separate. Following some research, I found Earth Art and contacted Gene to repair/rebuild the curbing. In October 2013, Gene and his team rebuilt curbing around 3 trees. On March 22, 2014, they rebuilt curbing around another 3 trees. In each instance, they carefully removed the stone and the old cement so that the stone was reusable. They then laid a proper foundation and rebuilt the curbing. The team cleaned off excess cement and left the curbs and yard pristine. From our original contact until the last job was done, Gene maintained great contact with me. The work was performed as scheduled on both occasions. Gene and his team were very professional and very good at their craft.

It went well at first. Nice equipment, nice website, workers on time, and the design was extremely impressive. The part of the project that made the rating so low here was the attitude of the owners and that they didn't supervise the workers to ensure cleanliness of the work site. The owner and the son seem very out of sync. The son is Nick, and he's the one that actually comes out to the site (for the most part). Nick is definitely a nice guy. I found the owner (the dad) to be a bit unpleasant to say the least, and very disengaged in the business. It's like the left hand doesn't talk to the right, and it actually made the project complicated and frustrating towards the end. I'm happy with the design, but the execution was poor and the management had serious problems. I found them to be overpriced, most likely due to a mismanagement of project management and cash flow. My words of advice, take pictures, and don't pay any final payments until the job is done. You'll be happy with the up front salesmanship, but it will be up to you to ensure the job gets done correctly. For large plants and trees, make sure you chose them. Don't let them chose your major landscaping items. You'll end up getting a weird looking palm tree instead of the picture they showed you up front. Don't let them leave until you're satisfied. It's hard to get contractors to come back and fix things once they're gone and all paid up. I bet these guys can really do some cool things, just stay on them and be vocal when there's something you see that you don't like.

The Pergola is really beautiful and they did a really nice job. They were very professional, efficient, and quick. They came, did the construction, and were gone in under 3 hours.

After speaking with the owner about the current state of my front and backyard - I explained what I was looking to do. I sent pictures and measurements as a starting point, they came back with a complete map of the yard with the design, plant names, tolerance to the conditions, etc. After I agreed with the design they provided a proposal with costs, broken down with plants, soil, mulch, labor, crew size and hours needed. We agreed to the information, we executed a contract for services and set a date and time to begin the work. They were friendly professional, timely and the end result was much better than we anticipated. I would highliy recommend Earth Art, Inc.
