John came to the house and looked at the problem. He gave me a recommendation for repair contractor and phone number. I am always very satisfied when iWork with a Coxco. They did a significant amount of work on my house a couple years ago and I had absolutely great results from them. Given my choice, he is my first call.

I texted Coxco over the weekend and they were very responsive. John came over on Sunday and fixed the turbine on the roof and gave me an honest review of the limited hail damage to the roof and the best course of action. No pressure to buy anything. It was truly refreshing. I hope when I do need to replace my roof I can call on Coxco!

Coxco is a well-established local contractor that brought experienced teams to our project. We were very pleased with the quality of the work, including clean-up, and the regular on-site presence of our project manager. To the extent that some touch-up was required on the painting, they were very responsive. Given the recent hard rains experienced in the Dallas area, we are very happy that our house never had any leaks. Further, the drainage from our gutters is much better than before when we had problems with overflows. The work was done right the first time.

When we purchased a new Tesla we decided our existing two-car garage was not adequate to accommodate two cars with sufficient clearance for easy access along with the storage space we wanted. Our plan was to build a new attached garage over the existing driveway, effectively lengthening the existing garage. The driveway was sufficiently long to allow a 20-foot extension to the garage while preserving 20 feet of driveway to the alley. The addition would be about three feet wider than the existing garage to allow for additional side-to-side clearance for opening car doors. The contractor we had used previously for extensive home remodeling was no longer in business, so we began a search for an alternative. After contacting multiple local contractors (all from Angie's List), only two expressed interest. We prepared detailed sketches and a statement of work to reflect our (very specific) needs. We began working with both interested contractors to get quotes and a good understanding of their relative experience levels. It was soon apparent that one, although significantly more expensive based on initial quotes, was far more knowledgeable and experienced in the many details of the job. We chose Coxco Construction to do the work, and owner John Cox supervised the work on-site on an almost-daily basis. The work specified included: (1) Removal of the existing concrete driveway, to be replaced with a reinforced concrete garage slab and a new shorter but wider driveway (2) Construction of the new garage, to include insulated walls and attic space and brick siding (3) Roofing of the addition to match existing house roofing (4) Finishing of interior walls of both existing and new garage, to include texturing, painting and installation of baseboards (5) Installation of new electrical outlets and LED light fixtures (6) Installation of a new 100A electric service panel and Tesla charging unit (7) Replacement of backyard fencing, some of which was removed to make space for the addition and the wider driveway Other elements suggested by John included: (1) Construction of a temporary wall (with lockable door) replacing the removed garage door for security during construction (2) Addition of a "porta potty" on the construction site to support the various crews at work there (3) Replacement of our current, hail-damaged roof (more below). Demolition and construction spanned almost three calendar months. This was more-or-less consistent with estimates. There was very little idle time during that period, mostly for curing of concrete, waiting for city inspectors, weather problems and other routine events. Crews were available when needed, and backup crews were available if scheduling conflicts arose. In the process of bidding the job, John noticed significant hail damage to our roof. At his request, we contacted our insurance company and scheduled an adjuster to evaluate it. John worked with the adjuster to identify all damage, including damage to plywood underlayment that was not apparent from a surface inspection. Damage to window frames, fencing and garage door was also noted. After an initial rejection of most of the claim as "cosmetic damage," John provided additional supporting data, including a second expert's assessment, and the claim was approved. Thus we were able to complete the garage addition and reroof the existing house at the same time, yielding one contiguous roof over all. All roofing work (replacement and new addition) was completed in a single day with crew of about ten to avoid potential damage from expected rain storms while the attic was exposed. The garage structure included custom-built trusses manufactured off-site to support the roof and satisfy code requirements for survival in high wind conditions. The trusses were designed by a local engineering firm to assure adequate strength while preserving the low-profile roof design of the existing house. City inspections (foundation, structural, electrical) all went smoothly, with only minor issues that were quickly addressed. All inspectors were very complimentary of the quality of the work. Fencing was done using clear cedar. This is not readily available locally, and required some work on John's part to locate the materials needed. The finished fence addition perfectly matches the structure and style of the existing fence. Matching the brick of the new addition to the existing brick was a challenge, since the existing brick was discontinued many years ago. John gave us some suggestions for brick dealers and left us to make the rounds and select what we wanted. Our choice was found at a dealer John was unfamiliar with, but a quick phone call to John was all that was needed to complete the purchase and coordinate delivery of the bricks. As work neared completion, we allowed for a bit of "creeping elegance." The temporary wall that John created for security as noted above was retained and ehanced (but moved a bit) to create two areas within the now 40-foot-long garage. Thus, we have both garage and shop/storage areas. Other added touches (both initially unplanned) were a heat pump and an epoxy coating on the floor. Work is now complete, and all meets or exceeds our high standards. We are already planning our next remodeling job, and Coxco will be at the top of our list for that work.

No response after initial visit. Technician that came out to inspect did not seem very knowledgeable. Before he even visited, I talked to him twice and he seemed pretty eager to come out and find hail damage so he could repair the whole roof. I just have a leak in the flashing. I guess once he came and found out I didn’t need a whole new roof, I wasn’t worth the time and never heard back, even after a follow up email.

We are very happy with Coxco. This was a big job, and required a lot of coordination and understanding. Pretty much impossible for this to go perfectly, but Coxco did very, very well. On the few small items that needed additional attention, Coxco took care of them without any fuss at all. Excellent service, highly recommended, we will use Coxco again!!

They came out, they serviced my damage a little and basically gave me an estimate.I was pretty impressed by them.I haven't had my roof done yet, but they're still on the hunt with me.The sales guy was straight forward. I believe he was a pretty honest and ethical guy.I felt comfortable, but he didn't necessarily tell me what I wanted to hear but I thought he was a straight shooter. The price seems a little bit too high and they don't seem to want to negotiate that too much, but I'm a value shopper. The value shopper means it doesn't mean you get the lowest price it means you get good quality for the right price.Like I said they're still in the hunt with me if that tells you anything.I think they're a good company.

The project went well. The water damage gave me an excuse to make upgrades to my home. I also added projects to Coxco's repair list. This was the third project with Coxco and I just signed a contract to replace my roof and gutters.
Description of Work: We had our attic water heater fail while we were away and leaked all over the house. It ruined our kitchen drywall, 1 cabinet and the wood floors in our living room. Coxco was our contractor and he remodeled the kitchen and replaced the hardwood floors and baseboards We updated the very old looking kitchen ceiling that had fluorescent lights into pendant lights and recessed lighting, added a stone tile back splash, and we also had them do stone work around a column and fireplace. The kitchen walls and ceiling were re-textured and painted.

It went very well. They were able to schedule a visit within a few days and followed up the day before and the day of the appointment. Don was very thorough and explained everything he was doing and why. He also explained how the insurance process worked and what my options were in regards to my insurance company. Everyone I dealt with at Coxco were professional and helpful. To put this into perspective, We contacted 4 other companies besides Coxco and only 2 come out to give us a bid. One company refused to return calls or answer emails after doing their bid. One gave us a bid and the others never returned our call.

Thank you for the kind words and especially for mentioning my team. We try hard from top to bottom to be a little better than the rest. The Page of Happiness is something I love to see. We have two divisions the roofing and the remodel restoration team. To see POH nominations on both sides of the team makes me believe we are headed in the right direction. They have different crews and leaders so it is great to be recognized. THANK YOU!!

Thank you for the kind words. You guys were one of my personal favorite jobs of the year. This was a large project over 200K with appliances and fixtures. I know you selected us after interviewing some other contractors. Your remodel was viewed by your neighbors and brought in two other large scale projects. We LOVE large projects. All projects have unexpected bumps and you guys remained calm and confident, you never know what the city will require you to do. We completed the project within budget and on time considering the extras. I know you guys love your new townhome. I am looking forward to the Lake house remodel. LOL Thanks again for choosing Coxco

Overall, I am very happy with the work that John Cox (the owner of Coxco) and his team did for our house! We originally purchased our house for $1,237,500 back in 2007. After John Cox completed the renovation work in June 2015, we were able to put our house on the market for $1,449,000 and got a full price offer only 8 days later. I give a lot of credit to John for this quick sale of our house! He gave us a lot of good advice on how to update our house to make it more attractive to buyers and he and his team did good quality work. Instead of delegating the supervision of the work to others, he personally supervised the whole renovation project. He really cares about what he does and paid a lot of personal attention to a lot of the details involved. For example, he did things like personally picking out the new quartz counter tops for our kitchen and new laundry room light fixture. Compared to other contractors I have worked with he was relatively more accessible by text, email or cellphone and more responsive to my questions and requests. I appreciated how his team member Don, who was in charge of taking all the measurements, was very meticulous and careful in his estimates of costs. I like how everyone seemed to pay attention to all the details of things. Nothing in life goes perfectly, but when I alerted John to a problem he was better than other contractors I have worked with in terms of trying to fix the problem. For example, on one or two weekends I arrived late in the evening to check on the house after the workers had left and found that exterior doors would be left wide open, lights in the house would be left on and the music from the intercom system would also be left on. After I alerted John to this problem, he spoke with his workers and it stopped happening. I appreciated how John referred me to a local interior designer, Cheryl Mabery, to help me pick out paint colors, floor colors, and rug colors. I didn't follow all her advice, as I had my own thoughts and opinions too, but I followed most of it. I appreciated how John just let me pay her directly and didn't charge me any mark up fees for this referral. The insurance company gave me a total of about $250,000 in payouts. Some of this $250,000 insurance pay out was for house contents replacement and moving expenses and was not supposed to go toward the rebuild costs, but in the end John included these other payouts in his calculation of rebuild costs. So in the end, John got our entire payout of $250,000 plus another $100,000 from us for items and updates that were not part of the work covered by insurance (this latter amount included about $23,000 for fixing the mold problem). In retrospect, I wanted to keep the insurance payouts for contents damage and moving expenses separate from rebuild costs and not have them all go toward the rebuild costs. This is why I only gave a B rating for price. But I guess you get what you pay for. John was more expensive, but he does good work and really cares about doing a good job. After I gave them the final check and signed off on the project, I later discovered that some lights were missing above the cabinets along one wall of the kitchen. I called him about this and he sent someone to fix it without charging me anything extra. I was really happy about that. If I had the chance, I would definitely work with him and his team again.
Description of Work: Coxco renovated and updated large portions of our Plano, TX house (built in 1998) that was extensively damaged by water. A hot water heater tank in our attic had burst and water poured into our house over a 4 day period before our good neighbors next door alerted us to the problem. Another company (Mooring) did the initial water damage clean up, but Coxco handled the follow-up rebuild and renovation. They provided a very detailed invoice of estimated costs to rebuild, which they turned into my insurance company (Farmers Insurance). Over a roughly 8 month period (from October 17, 2014 to about June 10, 2015), they not only rebuilt the damaged areas but also advised me on updates I could do for my house since I intended to sell the house immediately after completing the renovation. The work done included, but not limited to: new wood floors (in kitchen, breakfast area, family room, hallways, living room, dining room, and entrance foyer area), new carpet in entire house, new tile floors in a bathroom and laundry room, a completely redone kitchen with new cabinets in kitchen, butler/bar area, and breakfast area, new paint throughout the whole house, new door and cabinet hardware for entire house, new light fixtures in laundry room, kitchen, and butler area, and new ceiling fans for entire house. In addition to the rebuild and update work, Coxco also helped me to fix a mold problem in our kitchen wall which we unexpectedly discovered in the process of renovation. This mold was from a previous slow leak problem and apparently predated the purchase of our house, which we bought back in 2007. The mold fix included repairing plumbing in the walls, installation of a large section of exterior house siding and house wrap, installation of a smaller section of exterior wall, wall insulation, sheet rock, exterior brick, and exterior roof shingles. Coxco did all this work for me over the 8-month period largely unsupervised by me since our family had already moved out to Oklahoma at the time of the flood and I could only come briefly on weekends to check on the work being done.

Thank you for the review. To add a little background to this review I wish you would have mentioned that two other contractors had started and quit your project before you hired us. I try to help everyone and thought we could help you out. We did not quit but the job was a long one because you insisted on controlling where the products came from and wanted to order things online to save some minor money. You ordered the wrong parts a couple of times and made changes that did not work with the space you had. The changes to color that had to be redone were not because of Coxco. We could not just jump back once you made a change that stopped the job at the drop of the hat. It takes time to get the crews back in sync after a week delay. We lost money when we would show up and a change had been made and a note was left at the jobsite to inform us. I know you are a comptroller at the commercial construction company you work for and maybe you were leery because of the other contractors who had quit, but our work was superior and you added work to the project after we had started. Not a fair review but I still hope you liked the job. When we finally got paid in full 60 days plus after we finished you said you liked the work and final results. Thanks for the review anyways. John Cox was referred to us by friends who had done a kitchen/family room remodel several years ago and were very pleased. We needed remodeling of our outside patio area and a bedroom due to water damage & rotten wood. John met with us several times and worked with us on our budget which was huge because we had no idea where to start. He helped us understand what steps should be completed first and things that were important to get done while it was under construction (like new windows). It was all finished in a timely manner and his staff were efficient and very nice. John was always stopping by to check on things too. We are "over the top" pleased and are already thinking about what our next plan with the house will be!

Thank you for the kind words. We really enjoyed working with you folks. Buddy your dog made me want to get a lab. Lol The house had a roof leak as well as extensive wood damage that was concealed behind the siding. It was a chore to get it all out without damaging the interior very much. Going back with Hardi siding will make you watertight now. We ended up painting the bedroom wall and cabinetry for free, a $500.00 job because when your husband said he would paint it and you kinda rolled your eyes. I thought you could use a little surprise. lol Also inspected roof and found little damage from the hail. Next time maybe. Looking forward to working with you in the future, that kitchen is calling out help me help me. John

The entire process from working with our insurace company, developing a plan, demolition and reconstruction went very well. Coxco's owners and crews were very professional and completed this reconstruction within budget and met the schedule they had promised. Definitly a company I would retain for this type of work again.

Thank you for the kind words. We really try to be professional. The previous contractor your parents had worked with never finished and the work they did was substandard even though you had paid for a professional job. We corrected much of that within the insurance budget. Just thought we could help someone who had a lot on their plate and trusted our team to take it start to finish. We recently met with your nephew who also had a flood. Like yours the insurance company low balled it and we had to go to battle for them. Just like your claim they ended up covering nearly double as what they had estimated. We use the same program they do Xactimate so the prices are set by others. We are just more through on the scope of work and what is required to actually put your home to pre-flood conditions. Including packing out the house when necessary. Glad your life has smoothed out a little and we were part of it. Look forward to working with you in the future. Those 1980's bathrooms at your home would look great with a little work. John

Thank you for the kind words. I know it was a bit messy with the rain, but the crew could have cleaned up a bit more. We have spoken to our project managers about checking more often on the jobsites. Thank your for choosing Coxco and letting me know about the crew. Jon is a very good employee. Thanks for the review.

All of this water damage happened while we were on vacation. John Cox did most of the work and repairs back in 2011, I believe. It was a long time ago. The work was never really completed was was left in dispute for a long time. Our house still is not back to what it was before the flood. I just happened to see his name and wanted to say to anyone thinking about using this guy... Keep Looking. I suggest that you don't use this guy if possible. You'll regret it. We did. and still are. I realize this happened several years ago and he pretty much might have cleaned up his act, but do your research. Ask to contact some of his past clients. Have your insurance company do research too and see if anything has been file against him. We should have.
Description of Work: Our Water heaters burst in the attic while on vacation. Water ran for several hours. Caused tremendous, water damage to walls, floors, cabinets, carpet, ceiling. Everything had to be replaced.

Response from Coxco General Contractors Inc
We did an extensive remodel for this customer in 2011. Prior to start submitted estimate to insurance company. Insurance company agreed to the revised scope of work. Insurance paid in full per our estimate included mortgage company on all checks. "Owners" added a lot of extras during the remodel. "Owners" were happy with workmanship throughout the 10 week project until it came time to pay. Everything was finished except carpet. "Owner" and his partner didn't own the house it turned out. His father in California did. So mortgage company sent out an independent inspector who inspected all the work and released 100% of the money based on everything being done except carpet. Owner failed to make payment which included extras. We did not install the carpet due to non payment. Owners owed major money not minor. Elderly Father in California made a couple of $500.00 payments and apologized for his sons behavior. Ended up with 150 yards of carpet that we could not return and wrote off $$$$ Search Coxco and you will see we stand behind what we do since 1980. John Cox
