We had the ceiling collapse during a rain storm in one of the bedrooms. Seems we had a leak in the roof that we were unaware of. John Cox came out personally to give us a quote. His professionalism and candor swayed us towards using his company immediately (even though we did check with 2 other companies). His quote was fair and he assured us that he would fight the insurance company (who came in and inspected and estimated less then $2600 dollars in damage even though we knew it was much more) His employees were prompt and professional and did superior work. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

Thank you for using Coxco, it was a pleasure working with you and your husband. I know you interviewed other Angie's List Super Service Award winners so it makes us proud you selected Coxco. Our ability to complete repairs from the foundation to the roof and deal with the insurance company sets us apart from many others. I recall the insurance had shorted your claim over $6000.00 even though insurance and others said they could do the repairs per the insurance scope I knew in the end you would have been short changed. We were able to get the insurance company to revise their estimate over the phone based on the photos and other documents we submitted. Our staff is very experienced with the insurance claim process and we try to make sure you are represented and given your property back in pre-damaged condition. We look forward to working with you on your other household repairs in the future. Thanks again for choosing Coxco.

John Cox and the various crews who completed the job were a pleasure to work with. We initially planned to do only our kitchen and master bath, but we kept adding to the project, and it still got done in time before our company arrived. The planning process took some patience on John's part until we made our final selections, but his experience and suggestions were invaluable and we ended up with a much nicer kitchen and bath because of those. The crews were timely, professional and courteous. We appreciated that fact that the project ran on time, and any post-project details were handled quickly and efficiently. We are very pleased with the much-needed improvements to our home, and would definitely consider using Coxco again.

Thank you for the sentiments. Your remodel was one of the most enjoyable remodels we have done in a while. It was great working with you and your husband on the details. I enjoy an artists touch on our projects your flair showed thru. The doorless shower we put in worked great and achieved your goals of no glass to clean! I look forward to working with you in the future.

Coxco handled all the details of replacing our old, hail damaged roof, which included meeting personally with the insurance company during the inspection, walking us through the cumbersome insurance process, installing and completing the roof in a timely manner, having new gutters installed and some screens replaced, and then coming back quickly to take care of a few post-installation details we wanted handled. We basically paid for only the deductible and any extra items we wanted. John Cox kept us up to date with the status of the project, and the roofers were punctual and cleaned up all debris. Our new roof has survived several storms so far. We are very pleased and decided to use Coxco again for an interior remodeling project.

Thank you for the opportunity to work on your home. As one of the few GAF Master Elite Companies in North Texas it was nice to use our knowledge to work around some of the problem areas of your roof. The gutters will shed the leaves for years to come. You will be happy your choose to use them instead of screens. Look forward to working with you in the future.

John Cox from COXCO Contractors met with me at my house and we walked and talked the entire project. John seemed very knowledgeable about the project on hand. Also gave me info of the whole project of what was expected of his company and also what to expect when project was complete.. Also talked about discounts from various response organizations, one being discount for Veterans. Me being a Veteran I really appreciated John telling me about this. We have a pool near the roof so COXCO put a tarp over the entire pool. Half way through the project it started to rain. COXCO was prepared and put tarps over entire roof during the rain John from COXCO was there everyday and that made me feel very comfortable. John keep me up to date on how the project was going.

We had water damage due to roof problems. We were told by our insurance agent to contact 3 people to come out and do an estimate. This company was one of the ones we called. we were told that they would be out on Tuesday and that they would call before they came out. I waited all day Tuesday the 19th for them to show or AT LEAST call and say they could not make it and would make it another day. They never did. We went with some else because the others that we called to come out and do an estimate set up a time, came out on time if not before. This company as of today has yet to call me and ask if they can come out and check the roof. I would not recommend them mainly for their lack of professionalism.

Took care of all roof problems and the area where the hole was - You can never tell it was there. Two young men worked half a day to complete the repairs. My only regret is I forgot to give them a tip. Job was done immediately and well. John Cox, the owner spent half an hour on my roof the previous Friday, took pictures, and then showed me visably exactly what needed to be done. This is the 2nd time I have used Coxco and they were ever bit as professional and efficient as they were the first time I used them to reroof a 10 x 20 wooden shed that had been damaged by a falling tree. If you are looking for a roofer, or general contractor for that matter, who you can FINALLY depend on, Coxco is your company. John Cox has been heading up Coxco for 30-years and the experience is obvious.
Description of Work: Significant roof damage caused by Raccoons as well as an actual hole at the bottom of the eve on on side of my house, also caused by Raccoons. They were using the hole to enter my attic. Repairs were to the roof and completely ripping out the "hole" area, included some rotted wood. The hole was replaced and repainted.

I made an appointment for Rich from Coxco to come to my home and give me an estimate for several projects, including a bathroom remodel and some carpentry work. On the day of the appointment, when Rich was 1/2 hour late, I called the office to make sure that I had the right date and time. The secretary told me that the time was correct but that Rich had been tied up at 2 previous appointments and would be late. She said that she would contact him to find out when he would be at my home. I asked her to have him call me just before he came so that I would know when he was coming. No one came that day or the next, nor did they call to let me know that no one was coming. It is now multiple days later with no call, email, voice mail, or any other contact. With such good Angies List ratings, I am disappointed. Sadly, we had additional projects, including a full kitchen remodel, but wanted to see how well Coxco did the smaller ones before proceeding with the larger ones. I will not be using Coxco. Update: The owner of the company contacted me the day after my first review. He apologized and explained what had happened, then he offered to come for the appointment himself. I really appreciate the way that the problem was handled.

We got three bids to get our roof replaced after the June 2012 storm. Coxco's bid was competitive; well below the highest and just a little above the lowest bid. We liked the Coxco salesman, who was knowledgeable and struck us as honest. Coxco worked directly with our insurance company. The initial estimate from our insurance company was low and our Coxco rep communicated with them until they came up quite a bit. We had never replaced a roof before and were unfamiliar with several specific places where the insurance company had missed the mark and also pointed out that we needed new gutters. We decided to wait until the intense summer heat was behind us to roof and Coxco was very flexible with us on a date. We had a very slight problem afterwards with a back porch issue and Coxco came right out to see the problem and promptly fixed it. We have a beautiful, quality roof. I would use Coxco again in a heartbeat!

John was very pushy and very insistent that we sign his contract the very first time we met him and he advised me that we did not need to compare him to any other roofers. He promised to do $750.00 discounted work which he has not yet been able to show he did any more than any other vendors offered to do After we signed his agreement, I had a very difficult time getting him to come back to my home to show me colors of shingle and instead wanted me to drive to his neighborhood to see a roof there instead of him bringing samples to my home. I later made a point to go to other roofing companies and ask what they would do. Out of two other roofers they all agreed to do the very same services and quality of materials for whatever the insruance would allow, Yet John Cox advised me that we would be getting a $750.00 discount . The claim started out at about $10,000.00 but John added up items and embellished his estimate of services to the point that the insurance adjustor showed me ways that John was adding in costs that were not according to industry standards. The adjuster felt Johns requests were very unorthodox ed and "greedy". The claim ended up costing $16,000. in the end after I became very leery and upset about this and John was trying to get my claim to add up to almost $20,000.00. during the process. I had to tell him that If my claim went up to $20,000 that I feared my insurance premiums would go up but he refuted this and continued to insist on charging my insurance $4000.00 fee for "profit and overhead". John wanted me to pay my deposit to him before he started the job and I had to insist that this was very odd and I would use someone else. So he relented and agreed to wait for his payment when the job was done. On the day of the job I warned him to make sure the workers did not puncture my freon pipe going to the air conditioner. He just told me that this "happens sometimes". Later that night my house got up to 86 degrees on a day it was 109 degrees, the air conditioning was no longer working. When I called him he did not even call me back but only texted me telling me he would have some one check this out - some man came out about 1 hr later who did not speak any English - so I had no idea what he did or said but he had to weld something in my attic that night - We finally got to bed at about 12:00midnight. This would have been avoidable had he listened to my warning. After the job I paid him my first insurance check plus my deductible and later he went out of town. When I received the final check from my insurance I called him to pay him the balance and then he later told me He was out of town. The following week when he finally came Back into town he called me demanding I pay him. - I told him that I was studying for an exam that night and he kept talking over my conversation very rudely, telling me that I was trying to put him off??? I advised him that I would get a final total from the insurance adjustor to compare to his total and then I would pay him. He kept talking over my conversation again. He has been very rude, pushy and wanted to make every penny that he could possibly get my insurance to pay . His poor service was the same all through this whole process -I am so glad it is done-- the quality seems to be good as far as the roof goes but I will sure dread if I have any warranty issues and need any service with him. I would not define this company as high integrity. Although the roof work turned out good - the customer service was far from excellent
Description of Work: New roofing to 2 barns and home, Honestly - the end quality seemed to be good but the process of getting there was a nightmare. This company was very pushy and high pressure to get me to sign on before I could get any other offers. He encouraged me Not to see other vendors I later found out that other vendors offered to do everything if not more than John did. I started out with a $10,000.00 claim and he upped it to almost $20,000.00 which included his $4000.00 professional fee -- which the others did not charge. I had a hard time getting him to come out and show me colors and samples where the other vendors kept calling me to see if I wanted to look at their samples. He advised me that there was a risk of roofers hitting the "freon lines " in my attic so I asked him to take precautions so this would not happen - then when they did the job - they did end up hitting my "freon line" and He did have it repaired for me by a man who did not speak any English. He asked me to pay half of the job up front and I refused so he finally agreed to wait until the job was done - even though he knew I had Nationwide Insurance and he had talked to my agent. When I asked for his itemized list of repairs summary - he told me that they did not do this any more so I had to demand to get one - since all the other vendors gave me one when they did an estimate. He wanted to charge me for sheets of plywood that had not been used on my house. I was told at work that he had needed to use 9 sheets of plywood for repair but when I got to my house the workers told me they only used 6 - I had to argue with him to get this fixed. I counted all of them myself and could only find 6 damaged sheets of plywood. I would not recommend this company due to very poor customer service -I felt nickel and dimed at every conversation-there were constantly new costs for things he charged for that others did not. When I confronted him he only wanted to argue with me - which was very unprofessional. I was so glad to be done with this job.

Not a normal customer I missed red flags. I hope and pray no one else goes thru what we did on job. Went to house over 4 times for color selection before we started, twice she no showed without a call. Job was an hour from our shop. She then said she wanted to see actual shingles on a house so we sent her addresses to visit. Then she called and said she hired someone else cheaper. A month later she called us back to do work?? We then bought a bundle of shingles to her house and put some on her roof. Insurance adjuster had missed pergola repair and owner insisted we keep it under 20K insurance paid out 22K. In the end she pocketed insurance money for work we had bid. She called and said AC was not working around 6 when she got home. We sent an AC company and my foreman who is bilingual out that night at 8pm stayed and finished near 11pm because she insisted it be repaired that night. Paid $700 to AC company. We did not charge her for it, although code says 1.5" space or metal plate to protect it when near roof sheathing. We cannot see thru the plywood, I had warned her it could happen and we could not prevent it if it was not installed properly to start with. We use nails that penetrate 5/8" of an inch. In the end something GOOD did happen on job. We met next door neighbor, great guy did roof, garage door, skylights and everything the insurance paid for. We had no problems at all. Look for his review as he is an Angie's List member as well. Stayed true to our estimate which matched the insurance company estimate. Gave owner all discounts and some free upgrades. We had agreed to paid in full on completion as she didn't want to pay until she was satisfied red flag. Felt lucky to be paid although it took over 2 months to finally be paid in full. She had said in the end she was happy with job and would not write a review if we gave her another 150.00 off job or she would write a nasty review. We gave into her threats and still got a nasty review. I wish we had walked away from job and not had to deal with a person like this.

I called Coxco to schedule an estimate on repairing my house. I described the problem and was looking forward to talking to Coxco after we agreed on a scheduled visit for an estimate and evaluation of the problem. The day of the appointment came and gone.... without a phone call to cancel, reschedule, or apologize for not showing up as we agreed. I know this was just an estimate but lack of response also shows lack of intent or courtesy... UPDATE: I was able to touch base with John the owner regarding my review. There seems to be some disconnect, but I appreciate John's personal phone call to resolve my concern. He was professional and sounded sincerely apologetic about the misunderstanding. He has offered to come out and conduct the estimate and evaluation of the original problem. I am impressed that he followed up and spoke with me personally.

Squirrels had chewed holes in my house siding near the peak and the edges. Coxco suggested hardie plank lap siding, which squirrels do not chew. The back peak of my house was replaced with hardie plank lap siding in compliance with my home owners association requirements. They also painted the siding after installation. Excellent job! I would hire them again. Prompt, courteous, and knowledgable company.

Coxco was extremely helpful and efficient in getting my house back in order. I had some water damage from a toilet line that burst which damaged my upstairs bedroom and downstairs master bath. The work done, over all, was great. John Cox and his men contributed excellent advice and ideas, in the estimate phase and as the work went along. We couldn't be more pleased and will definitely use Coxco again on future projects.
Description of Work: Coxco replaced our roof after storm damage. Fireplace siding and various other siding on the back of the house was replaced and repainted. It was a perfect match and all the roof and exterior work results were excellent. Coxco remodeled our laundry room, moving existing shelves and building new ones in order to accommodate new appliances. They replaced cabinet trim in our master bathroom and installed an exhaust fan in the shower. After repairing water damage on the ceiling, the room, including the master walk-in closet, was painted. Water damage on the ceiling in the master bedroom, the study and one second floor bathroom was also repaired and painted. They restored our wrought iron fence to like-new quality. All the work done was above expectations. The crew members were on-time, anxious to please and professional in their work. We can recommend John Cox, and his firm, Coxco, without reservation. After receiving numerous cost estimates from roofing companies, I happened to met John Cox (the owner of the company) and I was very impressed with him as a person. After learning that he was a roofing contractor, I asked him for an estimate. He was very detailed in his initial inspection of our roof and explained available options. After visiting with him, reviewing his web sites and reading reviews of other Angie?s List members, I entrusted our home to his care and I am very satisfied with the roof replacement. His crew was very professional and efficient. They were diligent about installing my requested upgrades, to my satisfaction. As the crew worked, they covered adjacent shrubs and turf areas with tarps. After the installation was completed, the crew carefully cleaned up all debris and used a magnet to sweep the shrub and turf areas for nails. CoxCo was competitively priced and in my opinion provided the highest probability of completing the job to my satisfaction. I closely monitored the work as it was in progress and will use CoxCo again, if needed.

Coxco came out with their cabinet makers, tiler, painters, etc. and talked extensively to us about what we wanted. Then they got to work. The cabinet maker was especially great working on a custom cabinet to my specifications. The painters worked to get the stain for the cabinet exactly like I wanted it. The tiler and painter worked to corrected some wall problems that we already had and the pocket door was put in and adjusted until it was just right. The result is a beautiful bathroom. Thanks, Coxco!
Description of Work: Coxco completely remodeled a small common bath. Everything was replaced except the tub including ceiling, walls, lighting, painting, toilet, tiling, cabinet and sink. We added a pocket door, and changed some of the electric switches.

The whole experience was great. Did use Coxco again for a bathroom remodel and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: The cost of a new roof, etc. was about $20,000 but we only paid the deductable to our insurance. Don was great. He met his appointments on time, knew his business and explained it to us, was the liason with the insurance company, gutter and fence companies and checked on the workers as they worked. Don kept in contact with us and always let us know what was going to happen when. Great job!

Coxco is an excellent company. Mr. Cox himself came to our home for consultation prior to any services. He explained the different types of roofing and many ways that we could both protect and beautify our home. My husband and I were very impressed with his knowledge and thoroughness. The roofers that performed the job were punctual, very experienced, and respectful of my property. The finished product is beautiful! I would highly recommend Coxco!

Coxco is the worst contracting company we have ever talked to. They get offended and upset when a client asks them to explain things so that we could understand it and makes statements that "they have never had clients to question them about costs and what they are doing." I would NEVER recommend Coxco to anyone that needed contracting work done. Coxco is, using their statement, not worth doing business with.
Description of Work: My wife and I contacted Coxco as well as other contractors for a bid to repair water damage caused by a busted water pipe under the wetbar. We chose them after speaking to their representative, who claimed to have worked on the insurance side of claims and on the contractor side with bidding on work. We signed a contract with them in March and was hoping to start work within 2-3 months. Well that didn't happen at all. We contacted the person we signed the contract with a number of times asking for help on picking materials to repair our house. Calls were not returned until 3 or 4 days later and when she responded to our calls, she was rude and gave us an attitude. She kept saying that the reason they couldn't start when we would have liked to was because that we did not pick the stuff needed. She then informed us that they couldn't start until October. It got to the point where the person we were talking never kept appointments the she setup with us. I finally contacted the owner of Coxco and briefly explained the situation of what was happening and told him not to send that woman to my house again. I asked to meet with the owner at my home, which he agreed to, but I had to wait about a week because he needed to go out of town. When he finally met at my home I told him in more detail about how his employee was put off because we asked her to explain how the came up the costs to repair our first home. During the conversation with him he stated that his employee told him that I said I didn't want to pay anything. I informed him that that was not the case. What I wanted was an explanation as to the costs and questions about the contract. After telling him all of this he starts looking over the contract of work that we needed done he says we were being undercharged just for the kitchen alone. I told him that his employee is the one who wrote the quote for the work to be done. He then said that he was not making any money from this job, even though we had a signed contract for them to do the work, so he said he wasn't going to do the job. I asked why and he said it wasn't worth his company doing it because he has lost money just coming out to my home to speak to me. That statement was made even though he agreed to come to my home and talked to me. He contacted the other subcontractors he was using and gave them the job stating it was not worth his time and he wasn't making any money. The owner of Coxco stated he was doing my wife and I a favor by letting us talk to his subcontractors directly. Coxco General Contractors is a company that is very rude and speaks to clients as if they don't matter to him and has an employee that thinks the same way as the owner.

Response from Coxco General Contractors Inc
Disappointed customer due to unrealistic expectations and owner delays. Signed contract to represent them with the insurance company. We did meet and got insurance company to pay 10K additional for the work. Owner continued to speak with other contractors. Gave owners budget for tile that insurance allowed $3.00 per sq ft. owners shopped for tile and came back with $6.00 per sq ft. tile. They wanted to have difference covered by not removing thinset from floor and questioned the agreed prices provided from insurance company that other companies could do it cheaper. Wanted to find money in contract to cover items they wanted done outside of agreed insurance work. With little or no cost to them. Told owners they would have to pay difference and still they wanted to go over same information on pricing again and again. They said they would find a tile in the price range. We scheduled to start work and owner canceled twice just 2 days before we were to start. My estimator, job foreman and project manager all met at least 4 times with customer. We had spent a lot of time with them before the job even started trying to help and answer questions. I John Cox the owner did meet with customer with intent of still doing work. When I met Mr. Homeowner I realized he would not be happy with anything I had to offer. Basically wanted 25K worth of work done for the 16K the insurance paid. Our pricing is set by insurance estimate which did not allow enough to do the repairs he wanted included. I declined to do work for owner, we had done repairs to the home already and had not been paid for those so I had lost money already. Sometimes owner expectations and contractor are not a good fit. In an effort to make a bad situation better I put him in contact directly with two wholesale suppliers/subcontractors so he could get squeeze the maximium out of claim and get my discounts. That was over 6 weeks ago. After reading this I called suppliers and subs and owners have still have not selected tile, carpet paint etc nor have they scheduled the work. Called insurance to inform them we would not be doing repairs for the owners and to withdrawl our proposal. Found out we were the second company to decline to do work for them on this claim.

Started out good. Very good phone service, good personal interview with company representative. Roofers came and installed roof in 3 days. Problem was that they hit my air conditioning line near the roof and would not help pay for the damage. Very disappointing, very expensive. I had to pay to run another copper line outside of my bricks, very ugly. I also had to buy a new compressor since the old one ran all day without freon. (they hit the line earlyin the morning of day two).
Description of Work: Install new roof on two story home.

Customer is correct in his line being hit by a nail. We went above and beyond what our liability is. Building code dictates that any Freon line be located 1 1/2" away from the bottom of any plywood or protected by a metal nail guard. The Freon line was in contact with the plywood and not protected by a nail guard. Our nails only penetrate 1/2" per code thru plywood. They wouldn't have hit the Freon line if it was installed properly or per code We were in contact with owner through out and he opted to use his own A/C company for the repairs. We offered to remove the roof to access the freon line and repair it. Owners A/C company wanted him to replace it and owner decided on the exterior installation not Coxco. As a gesture of good will we paid $750 for the Freon line to be replaced even though we had done nothing wrong. The owner should contact his builder for warranty on the original installation of the line and the damages that resulted. Again we went above and beyond on this job. We cannot see thru the plywood to see if the freon line was against the roof. Sorry it happened but not our fault.

They did a thorough inspection of our roof damage and explained exactly what they recommended and why. They provided an itemized estimate of the effort. They scheduled repairs for the next day and completed them the same day. I was please with their responsiveness, their service, and the quality of the work.
Description of Work: We had storm damage that included blown off shingles, a repair to roof valley on front elevation and seals around all roof penetrations with rubber butyl

There was no supervision of subs. The project manager rarely showed up. I had to e-mail the owner at least once a day for issues. The painter, Jesse, was especially bad. He would show and leave or wouldn't show at all when he was supposed to, and he would show up when other subs were working and he would be in their way. He painted the master bathroom before it was demoed. We asked to have a few cracks fixed, but you can still see where they were. The shower in the master bath puddles in the corners, so we have to squeegee the floor. No one checked their work. The electrician put in a light where I couldn't open the cabinet door. The upstairs bath ceiling had to be redone several times. The tiler was a pleasure to work with and the custom cabinets are awesome. I felt like I was the general contractor on the job. I also didn't agree with their payment terms. They wanted 30% in 5 days, 30% in 10 days, 30% in 15 days and the remaining 10% when the job was finished. I went off the estimate and paid weekly as the work was performed. I took 2 months to complete.
Description of Work: Remodeled 3 bathroom, 2 of which were gutted. The master already had new cabinets, but everything else was done by Coxco.

Response from Coxco General Contractors Inc
Our company strives to be accountable for all of our work. Owners in this case were unhappy with the supervision of the crews. Our crews were punctual and respectful. The quality of our work was above average. Previous contractors had quit midway through work and I feel owner felt she had to micromanage our crews because of their mistakes. We came in after the demo was done halfway and had sat for some time. I personally met on the job with owner and subs and lined out work. Owner works and would be gone most of the time I was on the job with subs. Changes would be made by owner and schedules would have to change, sometimes on the day of the scheduled work or night before. Changes cost time and money. Cabinets, granite, doors, trim work were added to job at last minute. I gave owner access to our vendors. Owner insisted on ordering faucets plumbing fixtures, lighting online and from her suppliers. More often than not resulted in wrong type of material, late or missing parts or wrong size all together. Delays cost time in scheduling and resulted in stoppage of work as we waited for parts to arrive. Job started at under $20,000.00 and ended over $32,000.00 We went above and beyond to be professional. In the end I am sorry owner was disappointed but I feel job was made difficult because other crews had quit owner before. We stayed and completed all work even additional trim work added on the last day.

I got a quote from John, we scheduled the work, it started, ran on time even with a few delays caused by complications with my house - the kind of discoveries that often happen with an old house on a project. we were still done by deadline, and the work was top quality. The company was completely trustworthy and true to its word about timing and process. I had some added complications because i was out of town much of the time and sometimes decisions had to be made remotely, and John Cox worked with me on all of that. It was a complete success.
Description of Work: I worked with John Cox and CoxCo to renovate my kitchen, and do some other interior painting. The renovation included new countertops, new cabinet fronts, new drawers, new flooring, new paint, and construction of a pantry. The work was top-notch, the kitchen is fabulous.
