We moved to Richardson in 2006. I'm kind of a plant guy, tree guy, garden guy and I hooked up with them pretty quickly then. I used them on and off fairly regularly. I had them plant some 15 ft. trees in my yard and in a neighbor's yard. They sold me a bunch of stuff. It's a family. It's the son-in-law of Bruce Miller who's now running it. Bruce Miller started out with a lawn mower business and now he's got about a 20 acre plot. There's a lot of high-end nurseries and you can get pretty good stuff from them, but it's pretty pricey. You can get just as good stuff, good service and good people who are down to earth with Bruce Miller and you're going to pay less. Sometimes when the walls are closing in, so to speak from living in the big city, I would just go out there and walk through the nursery and through the trees. It's like being out in the country. Ever since 2006 I've probably spent $1,500 to $2,000 in there when I had them plant the big trees. They negotiated a good deal for me and they did a good job. They know what they're doing and they are not overpriced. It's kind of a family environment and they have a pretty dog gone good selection. They have everything from native flowers, flowers, bushes, shrubs and fruit trees. If you want a 20 ft. tree, fine, go to Bruce Miller and they'll plant it. They give you a one year guarantee on it and they actually honor it. I bought four pretty big ash trees and one of them had sunscald and you couldn't tell it until a few weeks after it was planted when I started looking at. If you go out there ask for Steve Robinson because he's a really great guy. I called Steve and said I think we got a problem with one of the trees and he said okay. He said let's go look at it. He came over, looked at it and said this tree should've never left the nursery. It's got a guarantee and so they gave me another tree of a comparable size. They planted it with no charge. I said okay and told them that I would like to buy the root ball that's in the ground. I paid $75. I got a root ball that went with a 15 ft. tree and now I'm looking at a double-trunk Texas Ash that's about 15' tall for $75. As far as I know, they don't do trimming and stuff. They're strictly nursery, but I know that they had one job at either a new corporation or a school up north and I think they ended up planting like 300 10-15 ft. trees. They can definitely get as much inventory as you need. They got a good selection on site until the end of the growing season because you don't want to order a bunch of stuff and just have it sit there when nobody wants to buy it. That's why I go back to them. I've been to other nurseries and they can have good stuff and everything but then it's just not the same field. I like that kind of family that's not pretentious. You get these places that got a lot of reputation, but Bruce Miller has just been in the business for a long time and they just do a good job as far as I'm concerned. They knocked off about $130 off each one of those trees when I negotiated with them. Their responsiveness was good. If you're going to buy trees from them, you have to understand that they plant a bunch of trees every summer. If I ordered one or more trees right now, I could probably get it within a week. If you order a tree in the middle of the summer it may be three weeks or four and that's just the way it is because they got so much business stacked up. It's first come, first served and you got to understand that they have a good, healthy amount of business. There's a reason for that and they are sort of matter-of-fact. Bruce Miller started that nursery like 30 or 40 years ago and now his son-in-law is taking it over. They move a lot of product. It's not like some high-end nurseries that want the place to look more like a nice restaurant. It's a nursery. It's a matter-of-fact. It's not beautiful unless you like plants. On more than a few occasions I've just driven over there in the middle of the afternoon, got out of the care, say hi to Steve and just go off walking through the trees. There's birds in there, doves and all sorts of pigeons. They got good people and they know what they're doing. In my case, they're willing to deal. It's not like they have a strict policy and they make good deals, especially Steve who's the guy who basically runs the place for the owner. He's the hands-on guy. Their punctuality is good. I've had them come out several times. In their business they can't say "We'll be there at 2:00". It's usually more like "We'll be there in the morning or the afternoon" and when you're planting trees things can happen like solid limestone 2 ft. under the surface. It's the same workers over and over. I don't see too many new people. I've bought and planted 25 trees in the neighborhood. I had a deal going where I would plant trees for free with the neighbors.
