Ole Handy Man

November 2007, remodel of shower and replacement of fixtures. Plumber destroyed tile in front of the the tub in the attempt to replace fixtures--this had to be totally redone and redesigned. Tile work was not precise and had to be reshaped several times to fit appropriately (mitered corners, smooth edges.) Shower was designed with a corner bench. All work was GUARANTEED never to leak! Less than 5 years later--shower pan is overflowing, soaking the ceiling in the garage below. I had 2 plumbers over, I had a city inspector over, and a contractor to help me figure out the problem. Mike said it was just in need of new caulking. No. Once the new contractor got in there--to completely redo the shower--there were so many things underneath that marble that were wrong. The corner bench was acting as a cistern, leaking underneath the floor of the shower (through uncaulked and unsealed corners), and hence the overflowing shower pan. The floor under the shower was wet and starting to get rotten. I took pictures for my insurance company (and they came out to see for themselves) , they were going to get the Ole Handyman to repay them after they paid me! Needless to say I was still out-of-pocket $4000.00!! A contractor is only as good as the people he uses!!--and supervises!!
