It went very well. They gave us a quote over the phone and a couple days later were out our house taking measurements. A few days later they delivered a very professional and realistic draft of the plans to my husband and then they got started on the deck a few days later. We were extremely happy with the results and the work that they did. They gave us exactly what we wanted and quoted a lower price then some of the other places we called.
Description of Work: We needed a small and simple deck in our back yard.

They were very prompt in giving us an estimate and drawings for the work. They fit it in when they weren't busy with other projects because we weren't in a big hurry. It was finished in an appropriate amount of time. The work was done very well and they checked with us a lot to make sure we were satisfied. Very professional company. Price is higher than some, but their work is very good.

Tom (sales) worked with me and patiently answered all of my questions. He was very thorough at explaining all the options and providing different ideas for my particular situation. I was personally on the fence whether to go with cedar or treated pine, and Tom was very helpful talking through the pro's and con's (they were able to do either, so there was no bias) and providing examples for me to look at of both. He also recommended that I get an engineer to review Sullivent's CAD design for my particular request (I wanted a 20' run with only posts at the corners - none in between). This would ensure that the structure was stable structurally. I did it and felt better about it in the end. They handled the engineer review (they contract out that work). They provided very professional design renderings and walked me through it all. They handled working w/ the woodlands DRC to get everything approved. Start of the job: Martin (owner) met with me and his job foreman to walk through all of the details and make any final adjustments to the plans. He spent at least an hour (I and think probably more) asking lots of questions, making suggestions and making sure I was clear on how everything would look. I didn't realize there are so many different ways you can approach something (even after it's drawn up on paper), but in the end I felt like I got an awesome product that was exactly what I wanted. The guys that did the work did an awesome job. They kept everything orderly and paid attention to detail. Martin came out and inspected the job along the way and kept contact w/ me to let me know how things were going. They also wanted to ensure that everything was complete and that I was satisfied before taking the final payment. The finished product was great. We love it and would do it again the same way. It really pays to have someone talk you through things up front in-detail. And I have to say I felt very comfortable along the way because of the amount of experience these guys demonstrated in their approach, ideas and suggestions. A few details on the job: - ground contact 20 year treated pine. - posts are 8x8, sunk 3 feet in the ground. - beams are built from 3 2x12's laminated with a 26' 7" length.

Tom (sales) worked with me to understand what I wanted and then worked up an estimate. Once I accepted, they drew up a design and submitted it to the woodlands DRC. After the DRC approved it, Martin (owner) and his foreman met with me to go over the finer details of what they would do. That process took about an hour or so to talk through all the stuff I wouldn't think about (but would eventually come up - and maybe not in a way you would like it to when you're not around to decide things - if you didn't talk about it up front). This is the second job they've done for me, and while going through all of the detail is, well, very detailed ;-) and long, it's proven to be worth the investment to do it because the end product is awesome. During our detailed walkthrough, Martin's foreman came up with a great idea to bring together the two separate walkways that I was originally targeting and make the whole walkway flow together and have a much bigger effect that I hadn't previously considered. That idea ended up costing me a little more money, but the end result was more than worth the extra cost. He was right. The guys pored a thick concrete base (looked just like a sidewalk) and then cut and placed flagstone on top of it. Then in after they finished placing and mortaring the flagstone, they trimmed all the sides to give it a nice clean look. They then cut expansion joints every few feet in the flagstone. Finally, they acid washed it to remove the white mortar haze on the surface. We love it. Lots of people we don't that walk through the neighborhood have also complemented it. Wish I'd done this several years ago.

It's quite nice. They did an excellent job. They did things on schedule, the quality of work was excellent. Their workers were all supervised. I'm very happy with them. They put in a really great looking beautiful deck and did some work around the edge of the edge to make that flush up with the different part that we didn't have torn up. On the lower part of the deck, we had them put in a really big fire pit. It is absolutely fantastic and we love it. I can't brag enough about Sullivent Services on the job that they did. The detail that they did was amazing. Their price compared to some estimates we got, they were more expensive but I truly believe the work that we got for the price was very well worth it. They were more but they were worth every penny of it. Their communication was top notch. They were totally responsive the whole time. They were very good. They were on time every morning and wait until their shift was done. Martin was professional, his crew did a fantastic job. I would gladly use them again. In fact, we referred them to one of our neighbors who's already used them and another one is working with them on a quote. They did good work. They're not cheap but they do fantastic work, that's for sure.
Description of Work: They tore up our deck. We had three different surfaces in our back area including our concrete, some pea gravel and then a deck. They were all on different kind of levels, so what Sullivent Services came out and did was they tore up all three of those surfaces and made one even deck. We ended up getting a multi-level deck.

Martin and his team were prompt, priced reasonably and got the job done in the specified time. The work promised was completed in a satisfactory manor. Martin was on site to supervise completion of the job - which is notable because with other work we have had performed on the house it is one team that comes out and sells the job and then sends a second crew out to complete the job. He was there from start to finish. Thanks!

Construction start was seriously delayed beyond estimate. Part of the delay was permitting (I accompanied owner during a full-day of "meeting, waiting, repeat" as we migrated through City of Houston permitting process) but 2 months between contract and permit and then 3 more months to complete is excessive. Once begun, construction was very professional and deck is very well-built. I was left with a "bad taste" when, after paying the agreed upon final payment, Sullivent surprised me with a bill for an additional $450. Over my objections, the original bid and permit request ("we'll adjust the estimate later") were for a 1-foot railing (with a 10-foot drop on the other side!) rather than the 3-foot railings I wanted and that are required by code. Apparently, the adjustment then didn't include staining cost and thus the surprise bill, accompanied by "pay it if you want to" which I found insulting...either I owe you or I don't. His belated and guiltily presented bill made me wonder why he didn't just waive the charge because of his error, his admission that the project took way too long, and it was such a small portion of the nearly $18,000 project. I paid the extra fee, but wondered if there were other "errors" lurking that I would be billed for later.

Good craftsmen but difficult manager. Stressful.
Description of Work: Built a deck in back yard. The workmen were prompt and professional. The sales person made promises that did not happen. No one oversees the job daily. The project manager stops in every other day and to collect money. Any questions about the job are forwarded to the manager who does not listen. While discussing design with the sales person I was told my changes were minor enough that they didn't need to redo the drawing. The manager called about design and repeated no need to redo drawing. Day of start of build very stressful as did not include my changes. Manager was very difficult to work with and charged 1500 more. The material was C grade lumber but they trimmed it. Had to have a few pieces changed because of knots falling out. Ended up with a nice deck but bigger and more expensive than wanted.

Response from The Deck and Patio Company, LLC
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you are unhappy with the service you feel you received. The phone number we received from Angie's List was incorrect, so our multiple calls (within 24 hours per our standard rules) to that number went unanswered. We then proceeded to attempt to contact you using the Angie's List website within days of your initial request. Once contact was finally made you indicated that it is our responsibility to reach out to you and that you would not "chase" a contractor down. We agree that a homeowner should not have to chase down a contractor, but respectfully disagree with your awarding us an "F" review in this case. We did all we could to contact you and even offered to come out after contact was made, to which you initially agreed but then you indicated you were not interested. We wish you the best of luck with your project and hope things go better with your next request, and we respectfully suggest you verify and update your contact info to that end. Thanks for your interest in our services.

These guys are very good at what they do starting with providing cad drawings of the proposed work to be done. They then followed through with HOA to get approval for the project. We made a number of upgrade changes to the basic package quoted and Martin was very willing to make them happen and advise what would get the most bang for the buck. The finished product is a wonderful covered patio that is unique and has drawn much attention from neighbors all over our subdivision and rave reviews from our friends who have enjoyed it with us. Martin told me they would do it right or wouldn't do it, they did it right. He has a very experienced crew of craftsman that take pride in their work and it shows. Extremely pleased with the finished product and with Sullivent Services.

I had one that was there and was broken. It was bad and dying. They came out and replaced it. We had a little bit of a problem with communication with these folks. They do very nice work. They're not the cheapest. They do quality work and you're going to pay for it. But, it's a fair price and they do quality work. He was hemmed and hawed when we first got together about when they were actually going to start the project. It took a little bit longer to get him going than I thought it was going to take to get him going. Once I got him going, I told him, "Hey, I want to reuse those poles that I already have there." They said, "Well, we don't know that we can but we'll try to do our best we can." When they came out, they knocked them over. They found something afterwards and said, "Well, we can't put the wood up like we told you we would. You're going to have to put bricks around the bottom and that's your cost, not our cost." So, the price went up. It looks nice and they were right. They couldn't have just put the wood in. They made an assumption. They had to pour some concrete and that caused them to have to hide it by putting the brick thing around it. So the price went up. It wasn't my fault. It was their fault because they made a bad assumption. The second thing that they did was, I have an over-sized gourmet barbecue thing. I told them, "I'm keeping that I'm not getting rid of it. So, this has to fit between opening." When they did the measurements, they didn't take great account of what they were going to do with those bricks there. They made it more narrow and hence it wasn't going to fit in. So, they came out here and started banging all the wood together. I walked down and said, "This isn't going to work. You are four inches short of me being able to hook the barbecue grill back in again." They they hemmed and hawed. They wanted me to pay to redo it. I said, "No. You guys screwed up. I told you on day one that I wanted it." We had a little bit of a tiff over it. Eventually, it was taken care of, correctly. If you're going to use these people, they do quality work and they're not the cheapest. But you make sure you're getting in writing exactly what it is that you want done. Don't sit there and leave any grey areas there because I found that if you leave a grey area there, they'll be quick to sit there and make it that it's your fault and not their fault. Once it all got resolved, the pergola was beautiful. They stand behind their work. They did a nice job. It's gorgeous. Everybody that sees it say that it's really really beautiful. So, it really is pretty. They did a very nice job.

Everything really went great from the beginning to the end with a small issue at the end which they did outstanding resolving, truly they are focused on customer satisfaction even with things they can not control. Tom came out multiple times to do the initial quote along with change a few things I wanted as we went through initial proposal process. Tom is awesome when it comes to going over the options that meet your needs for your project and budget along with being up front on things at the beginning rather than in the middle or at the end so your not caught off guard with your project. The wait to have the work done was not long especially since we were not in a hurry to have the patio done. Carlos and Martin (Business Owner) came out along with the crew the first day to lay everything out and get the patio just right which I though was great. Once again Carlos and Martin were very thorough with explanation throughout the process and what the expect when they were completed, crossed all T's and dotted all I's for sure which is what I like about these guys. They crew had everything set in a day and poured the concrete a few days later which looked fantastic and super high quality when it was done! I couldn't afford to have the patio sealed by them since I was way over my budget which they gave me advice and help to do it myself which I greatly appreciated to help protect my investment for years to come. After what I saw I wish I could have had them do it instead of myself because I am sure my quality work was no where near as good as what they would have done. We did run into a small hiccup a few weeks after the patio was complete which were problems with the future sleeve (pipe for wiring to electrical panel) and a small imperfection where some clay/dirt mixed with the concrete and caused a quarter size hole on the surface which is something they could not control or know until the patio was dry. Also the cover to my home plumbing clean out needed to be secured which took a few times to correct but problem was eventually solved. Tom and Martin personally called to follow up after I let them know about the issues to make sure that they could ensure everything was perfect which it is now. They went above and beyond in my opinion to do an amazing job from the start of the project until the end even with the few small problems that happened to make sure I was happy with everything! I will definitely use them again when I am ready to get my front entry way completed with pavers. AWESOME BUSINESS, USE THEM IF YOU WANT AN AMAZING WORK DONE AT YOUR HOME!!!
