Started business in 1957 by Fred Lauten. For 3 Generations Total Air & Heat Co. has been owned and operated by the Lauten family. We are focused on being "A Step Above the Rest". We do not use sub-contractors for our installations and pull permits as required by law. For Repairs: We offer a flat rate diagnostic fee which includes travel time. We quote you a flat rate repair cost before we proceed with repairs giving you peace of mind and no surprises. Employees are back ground checked, and drug tested. Fully insured. I would not use them again,
Description of Work: When I called, they said the diagnosis will cost $75, when the tech showed up, he charged me $145 and maybe spent 5 mins in the attic and said I think you have a leak in the coil at the rate you are losing Freon, but I didn't see him run any test like the others have, when I called them to come in and look at the air conditioning units. Then they sent someone else to give an estimate how much it would cost to replace the internal coils, his estimate was twice as much the others on the same product and model. he was also pushing to get the entire unit changed when it is not necessary...

We are sorry this customer did not see the value in what our company brings to the table. Our standard service call is $75.00 and includes travel time to the job (45 minutes of travel for this job), and 30 minutes of diagnostic time once we arrive on the job. Our technician diagnosed the system low on refrigerant, and offered a $70.00 leak search which the customer accepted. He determined that the leak was in the cooling coil. If the customer accepted our proposal he would have been credited the $145.00 towards a new coil. Our vehicle tracking system has our vehicle at the job site for 1 hour. There are many ways to replace a cooling coil, but only 1 right away to do it. Our price reflects total removal of all refrigerant, a new supply air plenum, and mastic sealing of all duct connections, and a compressor hard start kit, and a new liquid line drier. Many of our competitors use sub contractors to perform the work, use use hourly employees that have passed criminal background checks, drug tests, and a driving record check. Our employees have health insurance and a retirement plan. In addition, we carry a Class A license, most companies have a class B license. Per state law a Class B license requires $200,000 in property damage coverage, Class A is $600,000. We carry $1,000,000 in property damage plus an additional $1,000,000 umbrella policy. Many homes and buildings we work in are worth at least $2,000,000 so we want our customers to have the peace of mind they are protected against loss. We encounter price objections all the time, in most cases the customer allows us to compare our bid against the other bids. Once they see what the other company leaves out of their bid they realize ours makes the most sense. We are a multi-year Angie's List Super Service Award winner and very proud of that. We do our best to provide 100% satisfaction, but realize sometimes regardless of what we do, that some customers will be focused on price alone. The majority of ur customers prefer that we use the best technicians, provide fair benefits to our employees, provide employees that pass extensive screening to insure they are safe to allow into your home and be around your family. Most important is that we have the very best technicians who find the problem fast, and offer comprehensive solutions that provides the best VALUE, rather than focus on price only. In the DFW Metroplex there are a handful of companies that can claim 3 Generations of family have ran the business. In today's market place, many companies have failed and gone out of business. Yet our business has thrived. We feel that is because we refuse to give up our old world craftsmanship for the sake of price. Description of Work: The salesman came and ran through several options. He was very thorough and very knowledgable however, this company sells exclusively TRANE products. While, I am sure that TRANE A/Cs are wonderful, they are also overpriced -- much like a Mercedes. I did my research and everything that I read states that the brand of the A/C unit is not nearly as important as the contractor that installs the system. So, I eventually (after interviewing several contractors) found a higher effeciency rated system for less than their quoted price for a much less effecient system. 16SER vs 12SER

We appreciate your feedback and agree that the contractor that installs the system is much more important than the brand of equipment. At the end of the day, an a/c unit comes in a cardboard box and works as good as the contractor that installed it. One factor to keep in mind is most residential a/c contractors carry a type "B" license, we carry a type "A" license which is the highest offered in Texas. A type "A" license requires a higher level of liability insurance. In addition we pull a city permit for our jobs. We agree with your statement that Trane is the Mercedes of a/c units. The components used in Trane units are the best available, no other a/c manufacturer has the reputation for reliability and longevity. We feel over the life of the system that the upfront costs are more than offset by reduced repair costs and longer life cycles of the Trane product. I am somewhat confused on the statement that we sell only Trane, we do sell other brands such as Lennox. I want to thank you again for the opportunity to give you a proposal. Excellent job.
Description of Work: Fixed the stopped drain on the A/C unit. He noticed the A/C drain lines for the two units were installed in the wrong locations by my builder. Also found a ventilation code violation that was missed.

Description of Work: I don't remember the guys name. He was a big dude. Came out last October and was super nice. I had several other estimates and he seemed to be more knowledgeable than the others and the price was very competitive. My wife was home with our two kids during the install and she was comfortable. BUT when I got home and paid the crew he gave me his number and told me to call him personally if I ever needed anything else. I didn't like that.
