Description of Work: Replaced a defective part on my new Trane air conditioning system. Total Air and Heating Co. did a great job and I am very pleased with their service. However I am very disappointed in the quality of the Trane system installed. Only after two years a major component fails. I had to pay for labor and refrigerant to get this system back in working order. Also bought the extended warranty because I have little confidence that this Trane system won't have another part failure in the very near future. I guess it really is easy to stop a Trane with cheap expansion value. Buy the extended warranty.

Description of Work: The work was done, the technician told am a part was going out. My unit was only two years old but I bought the part anyway because it was less than another visit would have cost. I didn't write a review because I felt that I was cheated but wasn't sure. I don't remember how much it cost and I will give them a C because I just don't know.

Response from Total Air & Heat Co
As always we are glad to get reviews from Customers. This work was performed over 1 year ago, April of 2013. To be honest I don't understand why someone would leave C feedback on something they are not sure about? We performed a tune-up, and installed a hard start kit for the compressor. Every a/c unit can benefit form a start assist kit if they don't already have one. This kit lowers the stress on the compressor when it tries to start. A compressor start is even more beneficial In Texas in the summer during hot afternoons when the power grid is maxed out and voltage drops making it even harder for a compressor to start. Last but not least...this customer's unit is running perfectly 1 year after her tune-up! Best Regards, Steve Lauten President

Description of Work: It cost $75 to have 2 technicians come out and survey my property, answer questions about my old broken systems and purchasing/installing 2 New replacement AC units with matching Air Handlers - not bad at all. The technicians seemed fairly decent and knowledgeable, but the sales quote was really high in price (their original quote was $14,000 and some change!!! I ended up paying $9,500 for what I feel was better equipment and ultimately a better company.) | |Also, I deducted a point on professionalism because I did not feel the sales rep was honest about the brand of equipment they were pushing (I later found out from 3-4 other companies that the brand they were pushing was having recent problems and recalls with a specific part because of a change in their manufacturing process, causing system failures from overworking themselves due to the faulty part overstressing the system). While I couldn't personally verify this information as I am not an AC expert, I considered the number and consistency of the reports from other sources to be concerning and I did not feel overall the sales aspect of their company to be as honest and open about the information as they could have been. Additionally, although not required, the sales guy was really pushing the parts/labor warranty without really explaining why he felt so strongly about it, making me think that he knew there would be problems down the road and wanted me to have the warranty for when things went wrong. That is just the strong impression I had, but again, I could be wrong about that.

Response from Total Air & Heat Co
We are glad to have this feedback from this member! It allows us to discuss the massive challenge consumers face when trying to get bids for replacement HVAC systems, and comparing brands and companies. Lets begin by discussing brands of equipment. In this case we bid Trane...the top rated brand in the industry by Consumers! We've heard lots of stories over the years from competitors about recalls or issues. The truth is these other companies can't meet the requirements that Trane has to be a dealer, therefore they make stuff up to justify why they can't sell Trane! Our primary brands are Trane and Carrier which we feel offers the most benefits to our customers. Its too bad this member did not pick up the phone and ask us about what he was told by other contractors. However this is a common thing that happens. I would also like to point out we did offer the customer a $9,500 option which he did not mention, I'm not sure why? The equipment we sell comes with a 10 year parts warranty most of the time. However...labor is not included after the 1st year. Labor, refrigerant, refrigerant recovery are all expensive and no manufacturer covers these things without an extended warranty. We approach our customers like a doctor would...our job is to consult with you to help you make the best decision. We would not be doing our job if we did not put all the choices on the table...and let the customer decide. I would also like to point out that air conditioners come in a card board box and work as good as the company that installs it. My point...the initial investment is only part of the cost of owning an HVAC system. How long does the system last, how much does it cost to operate, and how many repairs are needed over the life of the system plus how comfortable is your home are all questions you need to consider before making a decision based on price. Theres no way to buy our $14,000 system for $9,500 and get the same job, we don't have that kind of profit in the job...its below our cost! My suggestion to all who read this...if the price is too good to be true you need to ask questions! We would be more than happy to review all competitive bids with our customers side by side. If somebody else has a better deal we will admit it, but keep in mmd we've been in business since 1957 and did it the right way with 3 generations of the same family owning and operating the business! Best Regards, Steve Lauten

Beautifully.
Description of Work: I scheduled with Total Air because the previous company continued to cancel and over time became very unprofessional. The first time Total Air came out for the routine inspection the technician was very professional. He stated that a certain part needed to be replaced. A second appointment was scheduled for replacement or cleaning of the coils. Derrick came out and checked everything again. He stated that all looked good except for the system needed flushing. Once this was done the ac is cooling much better. Derrick explained everything as he was working. He was very thorough and explained in detail all the work. When the system was flushed a mess occurred which he apologized for and quickly cleaned. By the way the flushing hadn't been done for a few years. Another validation to change companies. I recommend Total Air. Thank you Derrick I will ask for you in the fall/winter.

Description of Work: I have a Trane 14 Seer A/C and variable speed gas furnace. Total Heat & Air did not perform the installation of the units in 2004, however I use Total Heat & Air for my heater & A/C tune-ups and check-ups. They did install a new Honeywell programmable thermostat for me as well. Great company, prompt service, professional and reasonable. I also had them install new duct work.

Description of Work: I had my air conditioner serviced today because earlier this week the outdoor unit was running and no air was coming in. I called this company and they found a leaking capacitor. They replaced it and all is well. I spent approx 200.00. The service person was good and explained everything . I will use again.

I would not use them again,
Description of Work: When I called, they said the diagnosis will cost $75, when the tech showed up, he charged me $145 and maybe spent 5 mins in the attic and said I think you have a leak in the coil at the rate you are losing Freon, but I didn't see him run any test like the others have, when I called them to come in and look at the air conditioning units. Then they sent someone else to give an estimate how much it would cost to replace the internal coils, his estimate was twice as much the others on the same product and model. he was also pushing to get the entire unit changed when it is not necessary...

Response from Total Air & Heat Co
We are sorry this customer did not see the value in what our company brings to the table. Our standard service call is $75.00 and includes travel time to the job (45 minutes of travel for this job), and 30 minutes of diagnostic time once we arrive on the job. Our technician diagnosed the system low on refrigerant, and offered a $70.00 leak search which the customer accepted. He determined that the leak was in the cooling coil. If the customer accepted our proposal he would have been credited the $145.00 towards a new coil. Our vehicle tracking system has our vehicle at the job site for 1 hour. There are many ways to replace a cooling coil, but only 1 right away to do it. Our price reflects total removal of all refrigerant, a new supply air plenum, and mastic sealing of all duct connections, and a compressor hard start kit, and a new liquid line drier. Many of our competitors use sub contractors to perform the work, use use hourly employees that have passed criminal background checks, drug tests, and a driving record check. Our employees have health insurance and a retirement plan. In addition, we carry a Class A license, most companies have a class B license. Per state law a Class B license requires $200,000 in property damage coverage, Class A is $600,000. We carry $1,000,000 in property damage plus an additional $1,000,000 umbrella policy. Many homes and buildings we work in are worth at least $2,000,000 so we want our customers to have the peace of mind they are protected against loss. We encounter price objections all the time, in most cases the customer allows us to compare our bid against the other bids. Once they see what the other company leaves out of their bid they realize ours makes the most sense. We are a multi-year Angie's List Super Service Award winner and very proud of that. We do our best to provide 100% satisfaction, but realize sometimes regardless of what we do, that some customers will be focused on price alone. The majority of ur customers prefer that we use the best technicians, provide fair benefits to our employees, provide employees that pass extensive screening to insure they are safe to allow into your home and be around your family. Most important is that we have the very best technicians who find the problem fast, and offer comprehensive solutions that provides the best VALUE, rather than focus on price only. In the DFW Metroplex there are a handful of companies that can claim 3 Generations of family have ran the business. In today's market place, many companies have failed and gone out of business. Yet our business has thrived. We feel that is because we refuse to give up our old world craftsmanship for the sake of price. Our company was started in 1957 on solid principle of business and we remain standing today on those same principles. Best Regards, Steve Lauten President
