The price was reasonable. I was pleased they discovered no problems and and told us about it. They were prompt and sent someone the same day we called. I would recommend their services.
Description of Work: They came to inspect our air ducts. We thought there was a dead animal in the duct system. They discovered it was not in the duct system and suggested we check underneath the home. However, they installed a furnace filter for us.

Very well. They came and installed both units on the same day despite the fact that the weather was very lousy that day. When they left they cleaned up the worksite thoroughly. They followed up several days later with an inspector and in fact the city inspector arrived at the same time and everything was satisfactory
Description of Work: Total Heat and Air Conditioning replace 2 air conditioners and the heating system in my house. The old unit were original to the house and I knew they woud not withstand the upcoming summer heat. They were the most expensive company that I looked at using, but I was impressed with the professionalism of the representative. I decided if I was going to spend at least $14,000 for the replacement it would be prudent to go with the best company available. I researched the company and felt they were the most reputable and qualified. I am very happy with the service I received.

The crew showed up at the promised time and got right to work. They removed the old system, installed the new system and then cleaned up after themselves. They provided me with the necessary information about the operation of the new unit and then finished the job on time. There were a couple of problems that cropped up several days later, but they came back out promptly and corrected them. I was happy with their service and will use them again.
Description of Work: After they provided me a description of services and an estimate, and then getting estimates from two other companies, I decided to have Total Air & Heat remove my old A-C/Heating system and then install a new high-efficiency Trane A-C/Heating system.

Total Air came out on 8-5-2011, the outside temperature was 109!!! My house was not cooling down, by 2:00 we were at 86 AND rising in the home. VERY uncomfortable to say the least....with 2 kids. I am a Realtor and thought this company would provide a good service and fix the problem. The guy showed up, and it took him forever to "diagnose" the problem, which they charge $75 just for this diagnostic. He spent time outside, then came in and said it was the capacitor that needed to be changed and that would be $202.00.Then he spent more time outside, came back in and informed us of another problem. He said the unit needed to be rinsed and he would charge us $36 to rinse it with a hose. I started to feel nickeled and dimed at that point and immediately we back uncomfortable with this technician. Everything was taking way too long and he kept coming back in with yet ANOTHER charge. I asked him if we needed more freon and he said we were good on freon and that was not the problem. I did not agree to the $36 for rinsing the unit with a hose, so he told me how to do it. Then, he went outside again for a long while and then came back with YET another issue. He said the contactor was burned and he needed to replace it and that would be $205.00. At this point, I almost asked him to leave. My gut instinct was telling me that something wasn't right with this technician...you should always trust your gut. I then called one of my friends that runs an air conditioning company an hour away and told him what the technician was saying. My friend told me that the capacitor was $18!!!! This added to even more of my distrust, but...we were desperate!!! The temperatures were dangerously high and I couldn't have my 2 kids in this situation. My friend said he could not come out until next week. So, I agreed...I just wanted a cool home again for my family. Then the spent more time outside, and guess what.....he came up with another problem. He said we had TOO MUCH freon and that he was going to remove it, but it would cost me $120. At this point, I was so frustrated that I said, "Just do it. It's a necessity in these temperatures, we need air conditioning." While he was there doing all of this, it was over 2 hours and the temperature did not drop a single degree in my house. I asked him if we called the next day due to the home still not cooling, is he going to charge me all of these fees again. He said, "yes, if we can't find a problem." I said, "well.....the problem would be the home is not cooling....and the unit is suppose to cool, so are you going to charge me if it is not cooling?" He then said, "no". By the way, the entire time he pushed this $179 service plan on me, that he mentioned at least 6 times (which will probably make his boss very happy to hear). I continued to decline it as I did not see the value. We slept that night in 88 degree temperatures.....or shall I say, "we didn't sleep." So, I called back and they were closed, but I got an emergency service and they sent a technician out. This technician said that the real problem is that the fan blade needs to be replaced. Hmmmm, the other technician was here for over 2 hours and he never mentioned that problem. Then, this second technician said I was low on freon and was going to add back in the freon that the first technician took out. Remember, I was charged $75 for a diagnosis that was inaccurate AND $120 to remove freon that got put back in the next day. This second technician said replacing the fan blade would be $355. The bottomline is #1:My home is still not cooling and we are in triple digits, #2: The first technician nickeled and dimed me and did NOT resolve the problem, #3: the first technician did not catch what the second technician caught and I was charged a $75 diagnostic fee when he did NOT diagnose the problem or fix the problem, #4: I was charged $120 to remove freon, just so the second technician could come back and put it back in. #5: we are still at square one.....I have spent $602....more time on the phone and in person with technicians than I should have....frustrated....living in a hot house with 2 children during a severe draught with triple digits. Sounds like somebody does not know what they are doing!!!! I called Total Air today asking for the supervisor. I got the run around. First the supervisor was on another line and they put me on hold forever, then all of a sudden the supervisor is not in the building. The receptionist was UNPROFESSIONAL, VERY RUDE, and had no concern for what my family was going through. The receptionist simply did not want to be bothered. In the meantime, we are out tons of money and are miserable trying to live in this heat!!!! I bet if the supervisor's kids were sitting in this heat, the problem would have been resolved. Sometimes, it helps to have a nice courteous voice on the other end when you are dealing with horrible issues like this. A little kindness and understanding go a long way. My business is referral based...I would NEVER treat a customer this way. I also will never recommend this company and I expect restitution. To blow this issue off like it's no big deal.....people are dying in this heat....it's really no joke.

Response from Total Air & Heat Co
Being a multi-year Angie’s List Super Service Award Winner-we are very tuned to customer satisfaction. I have made multiple attempts to reach customer and discuss her concerns, our Operations Manager has too. None of our calls have been returned. Customer was invoiced $602.00 but not actually charged $602.00. Once we knew about the mistake we made on the refrigerant charge (faulty gauges) we deducted $120.00 from what was charged to her. At this time she has only paid $482.00 which is for a dual run capacitor and contactor that we installed in her unit. Her outdoor unit was not running when we arrived, and after our repairs it was running. There is no question that her run capacitor was bad, and her contactor was burnt. We apologize for our error about removing Freon from her unit, our techs gauges were defective. We have made that mistake right by adding refrigerant to the unit, and also not charging the $120.00 for the refrigerant adjustment. In regards to her call to our office. My Operations Manager was here, but in our warehouse looking for a part. We did leave the customer on hold too long. Please remember it was 100 degrees plus for many weeks, we did our best to help everyone. Our Operations Manager called the customer back, but no returned calls. At this point we have reduced customers charges by $120.00. The remaining charges are justified in my opinion. However if customer has documentation that another company made repairs after we did I would like an opportunity to review their paperwork. If further adjustments are justified I am willing to do so. I willingly paid an emergency rate for an AC failure in the 100 degree weather. Total was able to schedule me in the same day and arrived close to the estimated time. Jesse, their tech, found the issue immediately (a switch had moved to the wrong position and we did not know to check it) - he flipped it back, recommended that the switch be replaced if it slipped to off again (it was in an attic not recently visited). I got Angie's list immediately to find a provider (got 1-yr agreement) as HVAC would be an area where we needed quality and reliability - I had no current relationship as my previous vendor was overselling and I lost faith in their recommendations. So, when the real deal hits (HVAC dies), I expect to call Total out for whatever is needed.

Response from Total Air & Heat Co
We always appreciate honest feedback. While the customer did encounter some issues, the real story is how we took care of him. I think it's important to clarify the issues we encountered were beyond our control as follows: Customer had a short in his thermostat wire between the attic and the outdoor unit. This happened after we completed the job, The unit ran fine for a few days, and then started blowing control fuses. Even though we did not install the thermostat wire, we replaced it at no charge to the customer. The other issue was related to a facory installed part that developed a refrigerant leak. We found the leak, repaired it and again no charge to the customer. These issues are very rare, but what's important is we got his problems resolved ASAP, and at no charge to him. Best Regards, Steve Lauten President Total Air & Heat Co.

Total called before service call. Martin was terrific. He diagnosed the problems, took his time. Told me some other issues with a second unit compressor and arranged for a quote to have it replaced- pending at the time of writing this evaluation. Only problem was the drain that was blown out was pinging after the service call. Gave it 3 days. Had to come back out to do the drain repair again. Hailey was terrific over the phone and arranged for a prompt return at no charge. Very professional outfit. Pleased and would use again.

Air conditioning went out on a Friday evening. My call went to an answering service and someone from Total called me back. They told me up front it could be awhile before someone could get to my house and they explained the extra charge for the emergency service. A company representative called me back twice to let me know how much longer I would need to wait. Repair person arrived around 9:30 or 10 pm and was able to make a repair - needed freon and drain was clogged. Repair person was very professional considering he had been working all day and it was 10 p.m. Cost was more than reasonable. Very pleased with the service.

I called the company and they explained the cost of the service call and what would be checked and that the technician would consult with us for our authorization if anything had to repaired. Total Air and Heat called the day before to remind us of our appointment. Shane, our technician, called on his way to the house and we were ready for him to start the tune-up. He was able to answer any questions we had about our units and answered any questions we had about our system. We are very satisfied with the check-up and feel confident that we will have a comfortable summer with tuned-up air conditioner.

I called a technician out to perform a routine maintenance check-up. A day prior to the scheduled tune-up call my Tenant called me to let me know the A/C stopped working at this particular house. The technician from Total Air & Heat diagnosed the problem and we ended up having to replace the inside unit due to electrical system failure in the existing unit. I decided to go ahead and replace the entire system on my own after a excellent presentation from Justin. Justin didn't say this was necessary but, I wanted to do it anyways to avoid future headaches as a landlord. Justin arranged for my tenant to have window units almost immedietly until the new system could be replaced. The system was installed later in the week and the work was performed on time as promised. Overall, I feel this company is an excellent example of service first, that is honest in their approach from the moment you call to schedule an appointment until the last guy leaves your home. I would recommend them to anyone needing HVAC maintenance, work or replacement.

We have a service contract and they come twice a year to service the furnaces and air conditioners. We have three units each. I've been using them for 5 years. They are reliable and have a good reputation. I can always get a hold of someone if we have an urgent need for something. They seem to do the work right the first time. The employees were very neat and clean. They are very responsive to any questions or issues. They always give me a thorough explanation of everything they did.

They did not waste any time. They were professional and got the job done quickly. The city inspector checked their work and said it was done very well. They were provided details on how to keep the system running smoothly and pointers. For example: I had a tall fence blocking the new AC unit. They told me it was important to lower the fence (since it had a top exhaust) so the cooling would work better. I am pleased with the overall experience. My only critique is that the lead Tech on the job was not there the entire time because he was not feeling well. The techs that were there did not speak a lot of English. The company could benefit from improvement in this area. However, this was not a big deal because they knew what they were doing and professional. A few of the reviewers complained about the prices. This company saved me several thousand on my new system, so I would have to disagree. Also, people should remember that you get what you pay for. Usually to do something right is not going to be cheap. This company did me right. I would certainly use them again, and recommend them to my friends and family.
Description of Work: I had an extremely old Heat & Air system. The Heat system finally went out, so I replaced both the heat and air. I got a premium Trane system for the air heat and condenser. Chris really helped me out on the price. They had a few extra of these premium systems (as opposed to the standard ones) in stock and passed the savings on to the customers. All of the employees were friendly and professional. They completed the entire system overhaul in about 5 hours. When you are replacing something so expensive you need all the discounts you will get.

Streets were iced over, school was canceled, and our heater was blowing cold air. The person who answered the phone said they could have a crew over by noon. The crew was on time, and quickly found the problem. They quoted the repair cost, then braved the icy roads to go out to get the repair part. When they got back, the heater was fixed, and we paid the price they told us.
