They scheduled it right away, a couple of guys came in did their work, bagged the clippings, neatly stacked at the pick up location and left. The area looks clean and they did their job. I will use them again.

Overall, this was a horrible experience and mishandled as soon as the bid was accepted. At times I feel like Matt (the owner) tried to do right when things went wrong, but there were so many more "wrongs" than "rights" that my end experience left me feeling ripped off and wanting to be done with this company and its horrible workers as fast as possible. As you'll see from the pictures, I take pride in my property and expect my vendors to do the same. Initial contact with Terra Turf was pleasant during the quote when Grayson (think I have name right) came out to give us a quote to install existing lights on our house. He was shown all the lights and took measurements to provide a quote. He was very pleasant and based on him, the pricing, and their Angie's List reviews we decided to contract. When I spoke to Matt to contract, it immediately started to become difficult. I couldn't get clear pricing on any potential strand repairs that might be needed or extra strands that I might need to complete the full work. I was then told that he would need the exact measurements of all the lights I have and that he couldn't perform any repairs without charging me double the rate. My wife and I unboxed, tested, labeled, and replaced bulbs on each and every strand and provided him a thorough spreadsheet detailing every single piece of existing wiring - how many other customers would ever consider doing this after hiring a contractor to put up lights?!? Once we finally settled on the approach and pricing, the crew came out and things went south REAL fast. The lines, which had been used by the past homeowners for more than 5 years, were sloppy cut up and tied together in spots using duck tape and incorrect size wire nuts (where used). Broken bulbs and glass in most mulch beads, cutoff sockets/plugs/ends left all over. When the end plugs/sockets were left on the lines, they would string 5+ lines together causing the source plug to blow fuses. First night they were installed I blew out a brand new $20 timer because of the incorrect wiring. Segments of the roof line then started to fail, again due to improper splicing and stranding. They came out, cut and spliced again, and again another brand new timer blew out due to resistance on the lines (Now 2x $20 brand new outdoor timers shot). I called Matt, explained the problems and mentioned that after seeing how everything looked (when functional) and the potential for really making the property look great, I actually wanted to add the garages and walkways to the lighting scheme. He shot me a price, it was accepted, and they came out to install and make additional repairs. More line failures and additional blown fuses, now more than $500 bucks in, and now the lights start falling off the archway (see pictures) due to shotty installation. Somewhere along the line he had called me from his personal cell, and when I attempted to reach him at this number, I couldn't but instead got a lecture a couple days later when he returned my call saying that the number I called/texted him on was his personal number and that I was not to use it again. Priceless right? Anyway, after the final set of failures and repairs the week before Christmas Week, I get ahold of him (office number of course) and he says that even thought lights aren't working properly after all the money spent, that this has been just as painful for him as it has been for me and that the only way he knows how to resolve it is to sell me the lights, supposedly at his cost, and replace all light strands. We agree to yet another $200 bucks (now @ $750 all in), crews come out the next day to install. Despite my explicit instructions requesting that he be onsite to supervise and test and to NOT activate the lighting when the crews were finished (meaning just leave them unplugged since I would be out of town), neither took place. Since I was out of town and the incompetent crew didn't test the photocells installation location in the third set of timers, both systems left activated at night were catching each others light from the strands and creating an unintended flashing effect on both systems for 3 days at night. In addition to being an eyesore to the neighborhood and presenting yet another fire hazard due to the resistance of on and off constant actioning from the photocells, both timers were again shot due to the improper use and installation and the abuse of cycling on and off for 3 nights. Mentioned this to Matt along with seeing if he could help with another strand issue that arose (rabbits or something bit threw the ground lines in a few spots) just before Christmas Eve but never heard back from him til after the holidays. I ended up fixing the wiring myself, like I had to in other instances, so that we could actually use the lights for family photos. The best part, after all of this was the take down. The crews show up 2 minutes before the agreed upon time window, make a smart a** crack that they aren't late, and begin an extremely sloppy take down. While I am out there watching them work, and my next door neighbor was there to witness, they start ripping the lights off the gutters and in doing so start shattering many of the light bulbs on the strands. When they attempt to shove them in the boxes (again, all part of the original purchase price), I say those are not going in the box after you just broke half of them. The lead worker pipes back and says, we'll fix em next year, and I immediately demanded that since he broke them this year he will fix them NOW! He goes to his truck after saying he doesn't have lights, to come back with a couple boxes of replacement bulbs to fix the lines. Finally when all the lines were put into boxes they attempt to leave with shattered glass all over the driveway. I told him he needed to clean it up before he left, to which he says he doesn't have a broom. I literally hand him a broom and stand over to make sure it gets done. They leave spouting off smart a** cracks in Spanish. Matt never offered a refund, despite having a money-back guarantee plastered all over his website, and despite sending him pictures of the mess, couldn't seem to have cared less that his crew was so flagrantly careless and sloppy. Hopefully the pics (if I can find a way to attach) provide some context and if you don't want this to happen to your home, steer clear of TerraTurf.
Description of Work: Install Christmas Lights. After all of my strands that I personally measured, tested, and replaced all bulbs on were completely bastardized and hacked up by the horrible installation crew, they also sold me replacement lights (supposedly commercial grade) and those are in the price above.

When you and I initially spoke, I told you we do not typically install clients existing lights. We relayed issues that could occur. However, you were determined to use your own lights and even sent us an Excel spreadsheet. At that point, we recommended you allow us to install new commercial grade lights so that you could be confident in avoiding issues down the road and so that you would have what you needed for a simple install for future. We would simply come out and install the lights each year. Your existing lights were "homeowner grade" and not the same gauge wire as the commercial lights we install. This is important because as you stated, we had to add sections that you did not have enough lights to compensate for, in order to complete the job. As the electrical current went through the wire from your "homeowner grade" to our commercial grade, the current would fluctuate, causing the power spikes and blowing out your timer and fuses. As a result, you and I spoke and both came to the agreement to install all new lights at my cost. You were clearly in agreement, based on the simple fact that you hired us to install additional lights. You were pleased with the resolution agreed upon. Our 100% Money Back Guarantee is in place for instances when a mutual resolution can not be met. We spoke about a full refund, however, you requested we simply "get the lights working". I was on site to get the crew started on the final installation but did not stay the entire time. If the crew did act unprofessional at any point, I want to offer my apologies. We receive continual comments regarding the professionalism and quality work our crews provide. Angie's List reflects our commitment to customer service and professionalism. As a result, we earned the Angie's List "Super Service Award" for the past two years. In closing, I'm very sorry you had a bad experience. This company is fantastic. I had foundation work done about a month ago and the company that did it left piles of dirt along the side of the house. It needed sod. The front lawn also needed sod due to the fact that the shade from the large trees had left it full of bare spots. Matt came out almost immediately after my call and gave me an estimate. When I told him that I couldn't afford his initial suggestion, he offered a different product for part of the job. His price was good and after a few days, I called him to do the job. It was only a few days later when his crew came out to take care of the lawn. Not only did they put sod down, but they fixed the sprinklers so that they were above the new ground level - at no extra charge!! He was very professional and his crew was also professional. I highly recommend this company. Thank you!!

I requested an estimate for some landscaping and related lawn repairs in September. I told the vendor that I wanted to get competitive bids on the work, which I did not expect to complete before December. I made it very clear that I was not authorizing a work order. He gave a verbal, but I wanted a written. He went to his truck and came back. while I was holding my dog at bay, he asked me to sign a paper, while telling me that it was an estimate. The dog was so excited, I didn't have a chance to read anything. I initialled receiving it. that's all. Months past, and I never hear from this guy. On or about 1 december, I'm home sick and my dog goes nuts, as there are folks on property. I checked and saw they were unloading equipment and I came out to challenge them. they showed a list with work scheduled for that day. I told them I that I did not order any work on my house, and they needed to stop immediately. within minutes I received a call from the landscaper company, challenging me on whether I executed a work order. I told them that I had asked for an estimate in writing, but never executed on that estimate. And if they had called to check on the date of service, there would have been no issue. but it's their fault they did not check. I did not want the work performed. the caller wanted to argue with me. instead, I instructed the firm that it made absolutely no difference what piece of paper they had, as luckily I was home when they made their surprise visit. I demanded the work stop immediately and they remove their people from my property. moreover, I told the firm that i expected no further work on my lawn this season. I went out side then and again told the workers that there's a dispute here, and that they need to leave my property immediately. Which they did. two weeks later, I received an invoice for $35 for mowing, dated 12/15/14, after the previous incident and my phone call stopping any work till next season. I checked my yard, esp. the back yard, and concluded that nothing was done. I emailed the firm challenging the invoice, as again unauthorized business and made sure I terminated any further business relationship. All in all, I think they only mowed my lawn twice, maybe three times prior to this 12//15/14 invoice, and my bill was always settled by credit card without any invoice. so I knew this was a new billing for service after my last authorized mow in november.

You showed me the work you needed completed for the front of your home which I gave you a verbal estimate. You then invited me into your home to take a look at the backyard. Once you had shown me the entire scope of work, I went to my truck to prepare the written estimate you requested. I agree your dog was present but not behaving any differently than before. At that time I presented you with the written estimate which you reviewed and signed the bottom next to "Accepted" which also says "The signed representative herby authorizes TTLM, Inc. (DBA Terra Turf) to proceed and to complete the scope of services as described above." You mentioned that you would be traveling and did not want any work done until the week of December when you returned. Which I noted on the estimate. Per the estimated, I dispatched a crew to provide the services you accepted. Upon arrival at your home the crew unloaded the materials and began working. After a few minutes at your home the crew leader called me and said you told them to stop working. The crew leader contacted our office, told us of the situation and I immediately called you. At that time, you told me that you had not authorized the work. I did ask you if you still had a copy of the signed acceptance and you replied that it didn't matter what you had signed. We require signed acceptance before we schedule any work to make sure the client is ready to move forward with the services and because we have to purchase materials for the jobs. We agreed that the crew would load of the materials and no work would be done at your home. As for the lawn service in December, that is apart of our basic mowing service you hired us to provide. All our mowing schedules are clearly listed on our website. The backyard was not mowed because your dog was in the backyard on the day the crew was there to provide your service. The billing for mowing is always charged to our clients credit card (which you provided when you signed up for mowing service) after the service is provided. No receipts are issued because it is always the same amount each service. However, we will gladly email receipts if a client needs them when reconciling their accounts. In closing, I feel bad about this entire situation as nothing good came of it. I wish you the best and I am open to any further discussion/ clarification if needed. Sincerely, Matt

It was great. They were wonderful. When I used them at first time they were cold and little stuffy but I ended up hiring them to do my regular lawn care. They do a good job, they're very thorough and they come when they're suppose to. The owner is great, it's easy to work with and if I have a questions he's always available to talk about it. The only negative was actually getting the estimate done from Terra Turf to decide what we wanted done. Once that was obtained and we agreed to the terms, the crew was here on time on the scheduled date. The result is very pleasing! As I would expect, the work that was done, was somewhat creative and I was impressed with the outcome. If I could envision the results myself I wouldn't have to hire someone else to design it, choose the materials and implement it! The results have given the area a completed, polished look. It causes all sorts of thoughts about what else can be done!
Description of Work: Removed bushes along one side of house, cleared out weeds and stones, etc and leveled the grounds, built it back to level with soil, laid turf. Built stone flower bed borders around four trees and filled with organic soil.

I contacted Terra Turf on a Tuesday evening to get an estimate for some Holiday Lighting with the hope that I would like working with them and would be able to have them help me with some future landscaping plans. I spoke with a very professional and knowledgeable young lady who walked me through all the steps I needed to take in order to get an estimate. The following day I was contacted by a very polite man named Matt Brady who sincerely apologized because Angie's List referred me to his company even though my address was outside of where they are currently able to service. He said he was in the process of working with them to resolve that issue and that I was not the first customer from my area to mistakenly reach out to him. While he had me on the phone he emailed me the contact information for a company that he knew would service my area and told me to tell them that he had referred me. I was so impressed with how courteous he was and his desire to correct a mistake that was not his fault. That level of customer service is most definitely a rarity these days. If I lived within the parameters of their service area I would most definitely be throwing them lots of business based on this experience.

It took Terra Turf a week to provide me with an estimate to hang Christmas lights for me. Their estimate ended up being more than double than anybody else that I received quotes from! I only put up maybe 175 lights on my home, and Terra Turf wanted to charge me over $500 to do the job....nuts.

Terra Turf far exceeded our expectations for our landscaping clean-up. Our bushes had become very overgrown and the beds were in bad shape. They did an excellent job of trimming all of the bushes, removing grass and weeds from the bed and creating a beautiful edge along the front of our beds. I called to request the job on Tuesday and they came to complete the job on Thursday. I would highly recommend Terra Turf!

Great service by Terra turf folks. Very professional, timely and willing to provide full satisfaction. What was said was delivered. Mr. Brady was great and very pleasant to talk to. Appreciate his and his team's flexibility. The work required the full clean up of lawn with all the junk, removal of wild bushes along the side of lawn, then fill it up with soil & dirt and then installation of sod. All the work finished within 2 days. Last but not the least the price was very reasonable. I took the quote from 4 service provider and ended up choosing Terra turf for their review and price; at the end I am happy I chose them.

Matt and his team were nothing but professional, deliberate and precise in their work. They showed up on time and delivered on what they said they would do. We actually paid less than what we were quoted as there was not enough room for the desired plants. I will be recommend Terra Turf to my friends and neighbors as well as utilizing their services again in the near future!

They did a wonderful job. The tree looks excellent and is doing well. The crew worked quickly and offered helpful tips. Matt has always been a professional and responded quickly to all communications. He has high standards and that adds to the overall confidence level we have with Terra Turf. We will be utilizing this company to install exterior Christmas décor and they will be taking over the overall lawn and landscape maintenance of my home beginning in January 2015.
Description of Work: Removed a 6' landscaping tree, a Juniper and replaced it with a "Burning Bush" tree. The process included the removal of root system.

The team arrived at a time that was expected. They worked quickly and did not attempt to bother the homeowner. The completed work was perfect.

We are so pleased with the landscape work Terra Turf did for us! Mr. Brady has been very professional and courteous. He was quick to respond to our email and phone queries about the project. I talked to Matt about the difficulty of finding a landscaper who works during the fall and winter. I need a landscaper who can do a large amount of leaves. He said his company works in the fall and winter. So we scheduled a first visit for Friday morning. I stayed home so I could instruct the foreman on what to do. By noon, no one had come, but Matt had called around 11:00 to say they needed to push it into the afternoon. That was fine, but around 2:00 pm when no one had yet come, I had to go. So we rescheduled for Monday morning. On Monday at noon, no one had arrived, so I called Matt. A crew arrived on Tuesday morning and did a nice job on the yard. I hope once we get scheduling going and smoothed out I can have my yard done nicely!
Description of Work: I scheduled to hire a crew of 3 to clean flower beds and trim hedges. Rate quoted was $109.00 per hour

The crew showed up promptly and early on the scheduled date and immediately went to work. These guys were professionals and it showed. The work was performed quickly and beyond my expectations. It wasn't cheap work, but it was awesome, dependable and professional work.
Description of Work: Mowed back yard, weeded all beds and mulched them.

I scheduled an appointment through Angie's List to have them come out to look at my front yard. After a few emails, I spoke to Matt to set up an appointment. Although he was running late the day of the appointment, he called to let me know, which is much better than just showing up a half hour late. He took the time to walk through the whole yard and address all of my issues. Terra Turf was my 2nd estimate so based on the first estimate, I was able to ask more questions. I appreciated the fact that if there was something out of his realm of expertise, he told me. For example, we have a large honeysuckle in our backyard that I was told by the first company should be removed because it looked as if it had some sort of disease. When I asked Matt, he told me he wasn't sure and that before removing it, I should contact a company that specializes in plant health. I'm glad I listened because the honeysuckle is big and beautiful now, and I would have taken out a perfectly healthy plant. After deciding the final details, he quoted me an extremely fair quote based on the amount of time it would take and not some random estimate as given by the first company. Later in the afternoon, I received a detailed quote. When the crew came out a few days later, they were fast and efficient! They did all the jobs asked plus more! I was very pleased with the outcome. I ran my sprinklers about a week later and realized, unfortunately, that when one of the trees was removed, the pipe was broken. I sent Matt an email, and the next day, the crew was back to fix my sprinkler. Overall I was very pleased with this company. I've even had friends use them since our appointment and were pleased as well. I highly recommend this company and will have them come do work again.

I was ignored or stood up by 4 other landscaping companies before joining Angie's list and finding Terra Turf. There was a slight delay in service due to rain and a miscommunication on my part, but once contacted, the job was preformed in less than a week. I was not here when Matt's team spread the mulch on the second day and they missed pruning the trees, but as soon as I contacted Matt, the crew was sent out within a week to finish the job. They called in advance the second time so that I was home to tell them exactly what was needed. My first impression of the crew was not the greatest, they seemed annoyed by the job, but when I took the time to explain that I had been trying to get this job done since June, but no one would show up. I knew it was a mess, but I cannot get into the beds to do weeding and a lot of work, because I am allergic to fire ants, they were politer (lack of a better word). I also think they are used to be being ignored and when I offered them drinks, it showed my appreciation for their hard work.
Description of Work: Trimmed shrubs and gave them their shape back, weeded beds, gave beds their definition back, pruned two trees and canopied one of them to let more sunlight through so the grass could grow, removed a box of trimmings from our efforts to trim trees, and mulch in front beds.

Good afternoon! As you noted in your comment, I was out of the country on vacation when the billing error occurred. I thought my reply to your email to let you know I was acknowledging your communication about a problem would have been well received. Additionally, when I received your email I contacted the crew that was scheduled to provide your service to find out if they had run into a problem…which they had. They were having engine troubles with their service truck. However, when I did reach them (My cell phone coverage was spotty) they had already lined up a new truck and were hard at work trying to get back on schedule…which I understand they did provide your service Friday. Bottom line, I don't deny an error was made and that you were billed before the service was provided. That should not have happened. However, the service was provided Friday instead of Thursday. As I told you over the phone, I have been in business many years. We have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and earned Angie's List Super Service Award last year. I run a very honest business. We are not perfect and do make mistakes. However, when there is an error we will correct it. I think it's important and helpful to anyone reading this review to understand the communication trail between us so I copied and pasted the email thread below... Sincerely, Matt Yay you canceled our account. You debited the above amount. I copy and pasted from our bank account at Bank of Texas the line where you debited $35.72. So please do not lie and say it is only $30. An honest business person does not debit the amount WITHOUT DOING THE WORK! Perhaps you needed to withdraw our money because you could not wait to see if your workers did the work they were suppose to first. That account may be strapped but we have other accounts that can more than take care of dishonest business people that take money without doing the work first. You had the whole day to prove otherwise. It is not our problem with all of your excuses----- “oh we are running behind” , We are in Cancun” “one of our trucks broke down”. At the end of the day you HAD YOUR BANK STEAL $35.72 AND then promised to get the work done by the end of the day but it never got done. Since no work was done that is stealing whether it’s $1 or $35.72. You took money but NO SERVICES RENDERED. I own my own business and I work for someone else. I make sure to follow through with customers and no excuses. I do not need to hide behind fake A+ ratings and have my friends and relatives write great reviews for me. I can file a complaint with all of those organizations, the State Attorney General’s office and the Plano Police department if you want? (I have a Paralegal certificate that I do not use in my present job and what you have done is stealing) You have made it perfectly clear since my first email that my complaint is insignificant. We are so glad that you earned all those A+ ratings because that was what fooled us into going with you in the first place. So yes you made it get out of hand by removing money our of our account (stealing) and then not “rendering service as promised”.
