Stout General Contracting

Description of Work: I liked this young man which is why I chose him to perform my shower tile tear out and install. I obtained his name from another provider similar to Angie's List, but his reviews were turned off so I was unable to read any reviews. I thought it was because he was new to the other site, but I will never know. He had photos on the other site of the work he allegedly performed but I believe it was just a case of photo shopping. The work performed at my home was primarily from subcontractors. The work performed by the tile sub was terrible. There are chips in the tiles, uneven tiles, wavy grout lines and the there are two rows of tiles where the side without the colored glaze is exposed outward from top to bottom. Also, the subcontractor that installed the wallboard underneath the tile did not make sure the walls were trued or level and so there are two areas in the corners where the tiles are a half inch at one point and taper to a pencil size point at the other end. So, even the tile installer didn't check if the walls were level. I overheard Mr. Stout tell the tile guy when he answered my door that "they sent me the good contractor this time". I would hate to see the work of the other tile subcontractor, if this was the good one. Not all the work was terrible but I primarily hired him to tear out and install the shower, so I am disappointed in the job. Another thing, he quoted Hardi board but Denshield was installed. He had to send the subcontractor for the drywall texture out three times, and still the work was average. I'm glad I inspected the floor joints and had him replace them, otherwise, the subfloor most likely would have been installed over the rotted floor joints. Although he was a nice young man, give me a surly guy that does good professional work anytime. I wish there was a way to submit photos with the review, so I could show what I'm talking about. I have thousands of dollars worth of work that I can afford to have done, but because of this experience, I will only have necessary maintenance done when something breaks.
