Outside anti-siphon valve had failed and was leaking when the faucet was on. Visited every home and garden store in McKinney and Allen. None could provide a replacement valve due to the unusual pipe thread on the faucet. Starnes came out and had it replaced in 15 minutes at a price that had I continued to search the stores probably would have cost me the same or more and might not have solved my problem.

Gary came right on time and told me that if I just have standing water in the trap I shouldn't be getting any odor. He used the auger to clean the drain, said he felt some resistance in the trap, so it is possible he cleared something out. If the problem recurs he'll have to use a camera to check the PVC pipe for breaks that are admitting sewer gas. I'll keep my fingers crossed. He also applied cleaner to help clear any other buildup that may be present in the shower trap. I've used Gary for many other plumbing jobs in the past, and he's always done a good job - making his appointments as scheduled, and I've never had to call him back to fix something that wasn't done properly, so I've stuck with him.
