Overall, we were very satisfied with the project. Richard was very pleasant to work with, prompt and communicated his plans well. We felt he understood our needs and offered creative ideas and solutions. He noted necessary fence repair which we had not initially discussed, and promptly scheduled someone to fix it. Since much of the work was done just prior to the unseasonably harsh winter weather, Richard attentively returned following the cold temperatures to check on the plantings. His follow-up included replacing some sprinkler drip lines that had inadvertently been removed, as well as adding a sprinkler head to ensure that one of the new trees was receiving adequate water. We appreciate that he was responsive to concerns, followed up as he said he would, and was professional and easy to contact with any questions.
Description of Work: Based on positive Angie's List reviews we contacted Richard to perform various improvements to our existing landscape and putting green. His crew addressed some drainage issues with our putting green that were causing uneven rolling. The green was pulled up , smoothed, compacted and reinstalled. They were able to salvage the turf while improving the performance of the green. In addition, we asked Richard for a solution for a screen for our AC units, and he designed a screen made up of treated lumber and hanging horizontal planters (which he filled with flora) along with planting small magnolias for additional screening. Richard also advised us on improving our backyard landscaping with additional 8-10 ft palm and cypress trees, and large pottery planters which he filled with Sago palms and flowers. He was attentive to install the necessary additional sprinklers to support the new plantings, including a drip system for the AC screen "fence" which is covered with planters. Additional work included removal of a dying Japanese maple, removal and replanting a palm, trimming of all hedges and shrubs, mulching beds and clean up. Rusted steel edging around beds was replaced with new edging. Several crepe myrtles were properly pruned.

When we decided to landscape our backyard, we chose to work with R and R Landscaping based on the positive reviews from Angie?s List. When I called R and R Landscaping to set up an appointment, Richard personally answered the phone. We made arrangements for him to come by and discuss our options. Richard was punctual, courteous, and well-dressed; a true professional. He understood what we wanted immediately, even chiming in with ideas and thoughts. What struck us about our initial conversation with Richard was that he was honest and concerned about doing a good job. He never tried to sell us on anything expensive or unnecessary. Within a week, he sent a detailed proposal. Richard was available to discuss any concerns, thoughts, or opinions that we had. We even had a few extra things that we wanted him to take a look at after the job was completed. One of the concerns we had was blades of grass sprouting through the mulch. Richard came and took a look. He is going to send his team to come and spray for it. Richard always responded and quickly came to address our concerns. His team was amazing as well. Watching them work on the brick wall or digging up extensive jasmine roots was awe-inspiring. When we choose to landscape our front yard, we will definitely go with R and R Landscaping again.
Description of Work: Richard's team dismantled our old retaining wall (an ugly grey nightmare), loads of overgrown jasmine, and several bushes. He installed a new retaining wall (a gorgeous, golden brown), planted an array of lovely flowering perennials, laid down realistic-looking artificial grass in areas that were previously unused, set up several large pots of vibrant annuals, and installed drip-irrigation. He also fixed a drainage problem that we had and cleaned out an area beside the house.

Richard was excellent to work with. He made creative suggestions for revisions to my current plan, was always on time for meetings, brought in excellent, high quality new plants, always had a full crew on site, thoroughly reviewed the job with me as it proceeded and kept a neat job site. It was a good experience from beginning to end and I would recommend him to others.

A very good experience. The owner was professional and willing to work from a design that was created by someone else. He was also willing to help adjust the project to stay within budget constraints. This company was also able to do the irrigation work so it was unnecessary for them to interface with a different contractor. Punctual! The crew showed up and worked like mad. I thought that this would take a week or so, but if it hadn't been for the rain which precluded working on one day, the job would have been completed in 2 days. While doing the installation, he made some worthwhile suggestions to improve the overall result. We are very happy with the results and will likely use this company for future work.

We just bought the houses and contacted several companies to redo the landscaping in the backyard. Because R $ R Landscape was rated high on the Angie's list and it's a big project, we chose R&R Landscape. The job includes removing the existing trees and shrubs and grinding the stumps and wait until spring to plant new trees and shrubs. Because one tree was by the pool we stressed that care must be taken not to damage the pool. When they cut the branches, they just directly dropped them to the pool without any protection. When I called Richard to inquire, he explained the water in the pool would slow down the branches. After the tree was cut, the pool was full with branches and leaves. This is a very small issue comparing to others. We found at least one copying of the pool was broken, Richard replaced one but later we found out that he didn't use the same kind stone but a cheaper one. During the work, one beautiful holy tree which Richard agreed to save was cut down too. The biggest issue is that they didn't grind the stumps below the surface. Not only the roots spawning one the ground are still left there, the big tree stumps are even above the ground level and higher then the pool coping. When we asked Richard, he said that he would come back take care of it when planting new trees and shrubs in the spring. We trusted him and paid for his work. However, when we contacts him in the early spring to come back to install new landscaping, he declined saying he was too busy with other customers and would not have time for me. When we contacted other landscaping companies, they were all shocked by the tree stumps not being ground properly and remaining large number of roots on the ground. We called Richard several times, left messages, sent emails but got no reply. We spent $2600 to clean up the backyard to prepare for new landscaping but now is left with full of roots and big tree stumps on the ground.

I called Richard on 4/2/13 and spoke to him explaining in detail that we had a plan from a previous landscaper and that we were looking for someone to implement the plan or come up with a new one for our residence. I made our price point explicitly clear (between $2000 and $3000 total) and she said that he could come out on 4/9/13 to take a look. When he arrived I showed him the previous landscaper's plans and his attitude immediately changed. He was almost laughing as he asked if I actually looked at his website before I called him. He said that he doesn't really do small jobs like this one. His professionalism, or lack thereof, was pitiful and although he apologized for wasting my time, he had already wasted a week of my time during which I could've been dealing with another landscaper. I explained the details of the project to him upfront and had it been too small or not expensive enough, he should've said something then instead of waiting and acting like it was my fault that I didn't read his website clearly. Homeowners, do not waste your time with this arrogant landscaper unless you have a significant amount of money to spend. He is simply not worth your time.

I called R&R based on great reviews and the discount offered by Angie's List. Richard came out this morning to take a look at what I wanted to have done. The work would have included stone edging in my back yard around the pool, edging in front around the existing landscaping, additional topsoil and installation of groundcover for a large part of the front yard under a tree, removal of asian jasmine and additional of mulch. He didn't seem to be very involved during the process, or offer any concrete opinions, which I felt was odd for someone bidding for business. After reviewing my needs, he said he thought he had made it clear on Angie's List that he only bids "large" jobs, and that mine was too small for him. Mind you, my job would likely have cost a few thousand dollars. He said he would offer me suggestions, but declined to bid. I don't think it was clear at all that he only did large jobs, so I wanted to mention this on Angie's Lists for anyone else considering R&R. Although he was friendly, I felt like this was a waste of my time and I was disappointed in this experience.

Dealing with R&R was very pleasant - no overselling and no pressure. Very dependable - did what they said they would do and by when they said it. Crews were efficient and dependable and did an excellent job. It was an overall pleasant experience and very happy with the end results.
Description of Work: resodded 18 year old front yard in dire need of renovation. Removed foundation landscape shrubs, and updated shrubs, re-landscaped front yard, revised/updated sprinkler system. Placed moss boulders and mulch in beds. Used river rock at curbside due to extensive tree roots and used groundcover to give a green look around trees. Placed flagstones for walk-way through beds and made small area for bench under tree. Had them also trim and clear overgrown shrubs on side of house and in backyard.

I contacted Richard around March 1st to discuss our proposed project. Richard indicated he was available that afternoon and we arranged to meet. Richard was very personable and listened closely to what we were hoping to accomplish. He asked questions to make sure he understood the ultimate goal and indicated that he had several ideas about how the project could be approached. Richard took measurements and photos and asked for a plat of the property with elevations so he could properly plan for the retaining wall and flagstone steps portion of the project. The plat was e-mailed the following day. After not hearing back from Richard, I e-mailed him on 3/8 asking if he could provide me with a timeline for preparing a plan and providing a cost estimate. I?ve not heard back from him or anyone at R&R Landscaping. I understand that this time of year is a particularly busy time of year for the landscaping industry, and I also understand that a particular business may not wish to tackle a specific project (especially since the majority of this project is hardscape work). However, I do view not setting customer expectations and failing to communicate as poor business practices. Based on other Angie?s List reviews I perceive that R&R does good work, and after our first visit I was looking forward to Richard?s design thoughts. However, since I found R&R on Angie?s list, I felt obligated to share my experience.
Description of Work: I contacted Richard to see about covering existing rear patio with flagstone, expanding patio by approximately 285 sq ft. with flagstone, removing a portion of an existing retaining wall, and installing flagstone steps to the lower tier. I was also interested in getting an estimate on providing stone walls around front flower beds as well as design thoughts on plant selections for the front beds.

I talked to Richard on the phone to schedule a free estimate for work to be done in my yard. I needed areas in the yard re sodded and leveled, beds prepared for planting with stonework done around borders and flagstone laid. He told me without seeing my yard that the job was too small. He was very rude when I told him I didn't need planting done and said he did not want to share the job with me. I was shocked at his rudeness over the phone. We live on 2 acres and have a new 45,000 gallon pool and this job would not be a small one. Too bad for him, I will NOT give him my business and will make sure to tell my friends who not to use.

It took a little while to get started and a few calls to set things up, but once the project was going and the crew broke ground Richard was very hands on. The initial consultation was brief, but Richard had ideas from the time he drove up and walked the property. Everything he described was exactly the end result. The final cost was $75 more than expected due to a small bit of extra sod required to properly fill in the yard. The project moved quickly once the city finally gave the green light on the sprinkler installation and plans for the landscape. Richard's crew worked quickly, but they were thorough. He came out to do a final walk-through and check-in to ensure everything was done properly and to train on the new sprinkler system. Overall, everything went very well and I would definitely use them again or recommend them to anyone looking for landscaping services.

I purchased a "great deal" which was a $1500 for a week of landscaping service in August 2012 and accepted the owner's offer for completing a sprinkler system at my house for another $1300 which would total the entire deal for $3600 a few weeks after he had come and viewed my place. He also will fill dirt around the foundation of my house for another $500. At this point I am still waiting for Mr. Richard Barnor to install the sprinkler system. On 11/19 he emailed to inform me that he has applied for a permit and will let me know when he will be installing the system. Overall, he has been responding to my contact well but the service seems to come slow. Even so, this is still better than All Trade Pros (and some other companies), who answered one email and a phone call from and then simply ignored all my phone and email messages all together. This "great deal" deal is expiring in about 2 months so I guess the system should be installed by then. I will come back and revise this review once the service has been performed.

It went very well. Richard and his team arrived as scheduled. The first stumbling block was several rotten fence posts that we had not noticed. Richard pointed them out and fixed them. He then proceeded as planned with the planting. It came out better than we had expected. Richard left a list of all of the types of trees and plants he had used. We are very pleased with his work each time we look out of the window or sit under the pergola.

Richard did an outstanding job in our backyard. We had put in a swimming pool a year earlier and had nothing but dirt, weeds and some grass around the pool. During our landscaping consultation, Richard took the time to listen to our vision and came up with a fantastic solution. I wanted something that incorporated native Texan plants/grasses, very low maintenance, drought resistant, privacy, color but also something that would not take years to look established. Richard interpreted our vision exactly as we "saw" it. He took 2 - 3 days to complete a complete backyard transformation. When it was finished we were amazed. Within a couple of months the grasses, trees, and flowers looked like they had been in place for years. By the end of the summer everything had filled in and was truly an oasis. We have received numerous compliments from friends and neighbors, and are happy to recommend Richard's landscaping services. He created a natural/tropical oasis that has been a breeze to maintain, drought resistant and alive with vibrant color. THANK YOU Richard!
Description of Work: We contracted with R&R to complete a backyard transformation around our swimming pool and large backyard including dirt removal, bringing in new soil, retaining wall, flagstone border, planting of large grasses, roses, plants. Also installation of several pine trees to create privacy, 15ft pistachio tree, 2 x medium magnolia's and 1 palm tree.

Did have a bit of trouble with scheduling due to my travel schedule but Richard and his team arrived on time and we were amazed that they did all the work in one day. They fixed a small broken spot in a retaining wall, mulched everything and even assessed the water sprinkler to ensure that would cover all the new plants properly. We did make a few modifications to the plan in real-time and we are very happy with the finished product! We strongly recommend Richard and his team - worth the price. I wanted to add pictures to this review but can't seem to figure out how...maybe later.
Description of Work: We bought the $1499 Angie's List Big Deal. Richard first came out in August to assess our backyard for improvements. We wanted to remove the old formal box woods and make landscaping more drought tolerant. Also wanted more movement and color. Because we wanted to transplant a few of the existing plants, he recommended we wait until Sept-October. He came back in October to review his ideas and we gave him the go ahead.

I purchased landscape services using an Angie's Big Deal that covered a week's worth of labor. When I called to redeem the deal, Richard came when he said he would and we had a complete discussion of the work to be done. He responded in a few days with a firm estimate. We again had a face-to-face discussion to ensure we understood each other on all points. Once I approved, the work was scheduled in a week. Richard's team arrived when expected and began the work. They were professional (both in attitude and ability) and completed the work in the time expected. They (and Richard) listened and took into consideration my concerns as the work progressed. I now have an outdoor space that is useful and was completed within budget and in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Existing concrete sidewalk and small patio slab was removed along with old plantings. Removed old gas grill, but saved natural gas connection. Created a new patio area with Oklahoma flagstone/artificial turf. Installed new in-ground perennial plantings as well as pots to finish the area.

Richard of R and R Landscape arrived at the scheduled time on a Saturday afternoon to measure for an estimate on building a large pergola and re-modeling the patio floor in the back yard. Within a week, he had returned the estimate and scheduled the installation . I had purchased a Big Deal and did not realize that his business was about 60 miles from my house. Nevertheless, he and his team came as scheduled and worked until sunset for three days until the job was done. I cannot make enough positive comments about Richard and the men who work for him. The crew was polite, quiet and worked steadily until the project was finished. They cleaned the yard thoroughly. My husband and I highly recommend R and R Landscape, Inc. Richard's next project at our home is landscaping the rest of the back yard. After talking with him about his plans, I am sure that we'll be as pleased with the planting as we are with the pergola.

I first bought an Angie's List Big Deal for a landscaping consultation and a full week of labor. When I met Richard of R&R Landscape I was impressed not only with his knowledge of plants, but also his willingness to listen to my suggestions and concerns as it related to the upkeep and care of the landscaping. In 20+ years of home ownership, I'd never had a landscaper be so attentive to my input and so concerned about doing a job I'd love! Richard had great suggestions and was a pleasure to work with. After several prompt emails back and forth and another on-site visit, we agreed on a week for the work to be done. As it turned out, with a big crew of hard workers, I got all of the labor time I'd purchased and the job completed in a day! We paid for additional plants, some stone and the sprinkler adjustments after completion. They were quick to return to make some lighting repairs the next day. I highly recommend Richard and R&R Landscape and will gladly use them again as needed!
Description of Work: R&R Landscape reworked our landscaping removing old shrubbery, adding new shrubs and trees, and also did some patio stonework. They added soil and sod to raise the lawn even with our sidewalk and they checked both our outdoor lighting and sprinkler systems on completion to be sure everything was working correctly.
