We obtained multiple quotes from multiple providers and Monster Flooring Sale came in lowest with the right quality product. Based on what I had read in other posts, I reviewed the contract thoroughly and insisted on signed changes that the store manager was very agreeable to do. The original wording of the contract and previous write-ups on MFS caused me to be very anxious about how this install was going to go. We handled getting most of the furniture moved out to the garage to save time and ensure things did not get broken. We left the couches and office desk in place as well as a couple of heavy dressers in place. The crew worked around them and took care of moving the furniture to opposite sides of the room as they worked. They also helped us put felt pads under all the furniture as it was moved back onto the new floors. We also required that the install crew leader speak English well and this requirement was met. We had no experience in putting in these type floors, so we enlisted the aid of our son-in-law to oversee the project (he used to do this for a living). This came in very handy as he identified three major glitches that we would not have caught. The upside is that when pointed out, the crew and crew leader did everything they had to in order to rectify the issues. I was extremely pleased with this. The job was projected to take two days and they came in on time. Day One was take out the old carpet and pads and start on a couple of the bedrooms. This all went well. The under cuts required on the fireplace and in the doorways was also done well. The crew hung plastic sheeting to contain the dust and constantly cleaned as they went. The resulting dust at the end of the day was not nearly as bad as we expected. Day two was more of the same with a focus on the office and hallways and finishing the living room. They probably should have used more leveling compound in the hallway to start with and wound up using more materials than planned, but they resolved the issues and the hallway turned out fine. The crew did a very good job of cleaning up at the end of the job. The second hallway used up more product than expected (due to having to re-do it 3 times to get it right). The crew lead promised to bring us 4 boxes of replacement boards. We wound up picking those up when we made the final payment at the store. (I wanted to wait a day before signing off on the job. This was a change I put into the contract instead of signing off before the crew left.) Some suggestions for anyone having this type work done in the future... - if you don't know anything about having this kind of floor installed, find someone you trust to oversee the project for you and provide advice as the project progresses - If putting in a floating floor, pay the extra for the highest grade under pad. It isn't much and you will not regret this. - this is obvious, but read the contract closely! Mark it up and have the seller sign any changes. Protect yourself! If you accept the contract as is, you have no grounds for complaint. If the seller refuses to accept reasonable changes, Buyer Beware! (MFS was great in this area). - ensure that the contract states that all warranty work is through the seller. Do not allow them to force you to have to deal with them, the installers, and flooring manufacturers separately. Make them the prime contractor and warrantor of workmanship and materials. - be prepared to replace your AC filter(s) at the beginning and at the end of the installation. A lot of dust will get sucked into your system and you will need to replaced the filters at the end of the job. - hang on to several boxes (at least two) of the left over flooring product. If anything should happen in the future, you will have the replacement boards to work with. Overall, I have to say that we love our new floors. I had extreme trepidation going into this project but the crew was very professional and the quality of work was up to what I expect people to do in my home. The quality of the flooring product itself has so far been very good. We often catch ourselves just looking around at the floors and commenting on how good they look!
